Swype is getting more and more hopeless by the day, firstly adding a space at the start of more or less anything i type and secondly making up words, or inserting the wrong word, all the time. But ive got so used to it now that its a struggle back on the qwerty keyboard so i want to persist.
Ive heard the way to get it back to how it started life is to wipe the cache, by the following method;
Settings>Application Settings>Manage Applications>Swype>Clear Cache
(this was found on an android forum, but on a phone running Sense).
I assume this would be the same more or less on my HD2 but alas no. If i goto the start menu i have a settings button but that doesnt contain anything about application settings. I could scroll along to the settings tab and i find an applications button but nothing in there fits the bill.
Anyone got any clues?
Im running Energy ROM 25.Oct 2010
Using a file explorer navigate to......
"my device\program files\swype"
delete the file "user data.udb" this contains all the custom words added.
theres also a copy in "my device\my documents\swype" which I assume is some kind of backup.
Get rid of those, soft reset and you should be back to just the standard dictionary, it does seem to insist on trying to insert some pretty obscure and useless words from stock though.........
As for the adding a space problem. You can turn off auto space in the swype settings somewhere.
Thanks, il give that a go. Does that also delete its memory, as i believe it remembers commonly used word combinations and such.
The space issue is different to what you suggest. Its not that it adds a space after a word, which i want, but that it adds a space BEFORE i enter the first word. This isnt a problem with text messages but is if im trying to input things into a text box or whatever, like a password where it will input " password" instead of "password". Its a strange problem and doesnt do it every time, there is certainly no obvious option that would effect it!
I cant confirm whether or not it will delete the memory, I would imagine so and Im not sure about the space thing either, sounds pretty annoying though!

I'm getting that message.
The funny thing is, I haven't added anything to storage memory in a while. I got the phone a few weeks ago and installed everything I needed then - there was around 6MB remaining of storage.
However, whilst I'm driving today, I get an SMS and have a look and it shows me this critically low warning. I got home and tried to delete all my SMS but the phone decided to crash. After rebooting it didn't load all the today plugins properly, so I decided to reboot using SPB Pocketplus's safemode. I press the safemode option during boot and it says it will boot in safe mode but all it does is reset itself again and start in normal mode.
When it starts in normal mode it shows the critically low warning and freezes - I can't close the warning or do anything about it.
Does anyone know what could have caused this all of a sudden? Considering I had several MB free earlier today and haven't added anything to it myself... Also, what on earth can I do to fix this problem? It says to remove some programs but I can't when the device isn't responding or going into safemode...
Do a search for big files - also check your documents in case you've inadvertently recorded a lot of nothing (as I've done in the past) - also I believe temp internet files and remote desktop caching can take up quite a bit.

At the time it was impossible to search for any files - the device wasn't responding at all once it had booted up. However, I managed to connect it to my PC and access it remotely - even though the device's GUI wasn't responding and I had indeed recorded a load of nothing when it had been woken in my pocket by the SMS. Needless to say that button is now disabled.
Thanks for the reply, it's sorted now. Well, as sorted as you can get with the universal's minescule amount of memory
If you spend a lot of time surfing the net, your cache will fill up the space. Try to flush the cache and search for big files too. You should use SKTOOLS, is the best.
how
Daft question but where is the cache info stored. I can find may way around but I am not that technical. I am having the memory problem too. I have nothing on my device but its full. I have a map program on the card and thats it.
To clear your PIE cache, open PIE go to the menu and selct tools, options and then select the memory tab and click the delete files button. It will probably take a while. A easier way to manage this cache, in my opinion, is to purchase and install SKTools(a fantasic app for many uses) and run the quick clean program. I have the quick clean app mapped to a keyboard combo (using freeware PQZII) so it's very easy to free up memory.
Hi,
I used the delete my 5 faves cab, and I understand that it just stops the program from running. I have noticed that my faves takes up a lot of program memory. Is it safe to remove the my fave 5 apps from my wing? Also what programs do I remove in order to get rid of my 5 faves completely?
I have also tried to remove My Documents\Icons and it says that it is part of the system file and may damage the system if I remove. Is this safe? I assume that the icons (family, friends, sports, etc) are part of the my 5 faves apps.
I have searched the forums and the internet for an anwser so I can delete these items without any worries. So far I can't find a solid anwser that makes me comfortable. I am still pretty new to all this. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
It's kinda baked into the rom that tmo gives you. I suggest that you flash one of the ROMS in our rom development section
Thanks for the reply. I think that i have already spent way too much time messing around with my wing for now. I have HTC home installed, lots of registry tweaks and cabs. I also have opera installed (thanks for all the non replys) j/k. Im pretty happy with how my wing is set up for the time being. I would like to use it as is for now, and probably start messing around with roms at a later time, when I get tired of what I have.
If it is not safe to get rid of the 5 faves, what about the icons? When you go to file explorer/my device/my documents/my icons, there are four folders(Buddies, Family, Fun, Sports) with images in them. I would like to delete them and maybe free up about 2m of program memory. When I try to delete, it states that the file is a system file. "If you remove it, your device or one of your programs may no longer work correctly". I think that it would be ok, because they are just images, but I don't want to risk anything unless i'm totally sure. Any expert advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
you're freeing up STORAGE memory, not program memory. ROM not RAM. Anyway, if you used the delete myfaves cab, it won't run.
If the files are baked directly into the rom, you can delete them but they will restore on the next reset
Jeez, thanks for not being such a jerk about it. It's not like im trying to be mean. Did i mention that i was pretty new to this? I'm sure you never made a mistake in your entire life.
"If the files are baked directly into the rom, you can delete them but they will restore on the next reset"
If you had said this first, instead of, "It's kinda baked into the rom that tmo gives you." It would have been a lot more clear to a noob. So instead of getting irritated at my lack of knowledge, I think your lack of an explanation is what made thing harder.
But thanks anyways (filled with sarcasm to make things more clear).
no no no. i'm not trying to be a jerk (yes i get the sarcasm)
there is a distinct and important difference between storage and program memory. and i assumed you knew about the sys files.
Yeah, im sorry for being so defensive. Im just tired of running into so many mean spirited people online that i automatically think the worst. It's so suprising at just how mean a lot of people really are.
Anyways, i do know the diffrence between storage and program memory. I just got it mixed up. I also know the difference between Rom and Ram, but i did a lot of drugs when i was a teenager. Thanks for the info about the system files. I just learned something new today (with no hint of sarcasm).
The only work around I came across without flashing was this reg edit which turns it "off". First back ur regisrty settings using a app like "sprite backup" because u may have a problem with ur "faves" showing in ur call logs after disabling it. After editing ur registry make a few test calls to & from ur faves to see if they were logged. If they didnt restore ur settings & try again. For me it work but afew times at the start of my bill cycle a ota was sent which reactivated it. I just disabled it again.
HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5 > SMSC > CmdGet > StateRequest
Open value ClientService and change the value from 1 to 0.
edit: Disabling/deleting the "myfave" files doesnt hurt anything. All my 5 numbers have been logged correctly since I disabled it. It also worked without problems when I was using a custom rom. From the commercials I thought I would like it but its slows the phone even more & eye sore especially on phones with smaller screens.
is there any way to have it in a cab like that it will work with a cooked rom bc i will love to have myfave work with a manilla rom

be sure to clear out you text threads the get to big and your phone will act funny also turn your phone of and on every day helps out a lot
Yes, this is most likely a problem with too many text messages. After you get to 200-300, the phone really starts lagging.
Reset those and see how you do.
You should download the app from the market "txtract". It lets you extract your text messages to your sd card so you can delete them from your phone but still keep the ones you want to save.

good advice some people dont want to lose some of there text messages.
yeah, but don't be so hasty to delet your messages until you make sure it's right for you cuz the app has three options of extracting, xml, csv i think and html I extracted it using xml and wasn't too pleased,i haven't tried csv and html ain't avalaible yet
html hasn't been developed, although the option is there...
anyway to delete txt by selecting multiple threads? or do i have to do one by one thread at a time

Hi jkiller,
I noticed that the XML had a bug in it, "not closing the <SMS> tag at the right spot", hence a new release came out right away. Please take a look at that one.
The beauty of XML is that, it can be converted to anything. And it would be so soo cool, if Android had any XSLT support. Now, trying to find a better way around the proper XML -> HTML conversion of the extracted/exported SMS messages.
CSV is "comma separated values", for the ones who might be thinking what the heck is CSV.
hey oz
I checked out the new version but I still have a problem with xml,for some reason it keeps confusing me with another contact,i have the papa johns number o my phone and it confuses some of my text with papa johns lol, plus im pretty new to reading xml format and would like a much simpler way of reading them if Im going to delete them off my phone which I think html mode will be when it comes out, anyway thanks for the update.

Does the same problem exist in the CSV export?
By the way, you can open the XML file in Word. It gives a pretty outline of the document, with opening/closing tags.
I'm trying to mess with my sms db to make a similar situation happen, with no luck so far.
it might not be just the text messages; there are alot of things that can bog down the phones memory:
- Cache especially from browser, youtube, maps, and market
- Applications especially games
Check how much memory you have by going to;
Settings->sd card & phone storage and check internal phone storage
- can see how much space an application takes by going to:
Settings-> application -> manage applications
*press menu to sort by size
you can clear the data of pre installed apps (that came with the phone) like the browser and market
**DONT clear data for myfavs or settings**
* if you have root you can save you browser cache and market cache to sdcard by going to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443336
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444294
Is there any way 2 clear market cache ? Reason being I do not have root anymore. Effin rc30... there is no " clear data" in manage applications for market
This sucks. Everything was going great but for someone reason lately, I am having trouble turning on my XV6800 from standby. Some times I have to hit the power button more then once. Or wait for a couple of seconds then it turns on. It is not dependent on the power button, because when I switched it to turn on when any button is on, it still won't turn on. What does get it out for good is if there is a call or a text that wakes its self up. But other times the power button works great.
I would love to solve this problem! I used SKTools to see what is running as soon as I hit the power button and hit it again to turn on. Both TimeWizard.exe and shell32.exe are at hundred for that second. Is that ok/normal? Have any suggestings before I hard reset?
If I do hard reset, I am wondering if instead of going to MR1 I should go with a WM6.5 rom. Is it really more trouble then its worth? I get about 21 of 22MB at startup (aftering clearing ram in beginning). What's the average for WM6.5 with the titan? I rather fix my problem and not hard reset, hate to reinstall all the software and do all the registry hacks all over again.
edit: Looks like this is an issue (a lot of people had it) that cannot be solved without hard reseting. So I still need to decide what route (MR1 or WM6.5) to go with...
I personally like 6.5. With the inclusion of a tool called nueKernel, many ROMs will boot with up to 28ish MB of RAM in high memory mode on a fresh install. In low memory mode, it's usually between 20 and 22. High memory mode, if you aren't aware, temporarily disables the camera. Low memory mode enables the camera. You can switch back and forth easily using a setting in your System menu.
Also, make note of any tools you currently use on your Today screen. Any third party additions may not exist for the new Titanium layout. There are a bunch of new add-ins for it that will most likely do everything that you need, but do some poking around first. You can also use the older today screen on 6.5 if you can't find what you need for Titanium, but that ruins a lot of the fun.
Since you use SKTools, you can also easily export any registry tweaks you put in, and re-import them on whichever ROM you decide to use. It's fairly easy.
There are a number of ROMs to choose from between XDA and ppcgeeks. Read some of the comments and check out what the chef includes. It will be pretty different than the official Verizon ROM you are used to, but that's usually a good thing. I currently use bbsandkm's 6.5 ROM from ppcgeeks, but that's personal preference. Ryan and TPLane here on XDA make some amazing ROMs that you can use, too.
But before you flash to any non-official ROM, please make sure you read up on the guides to do it properly. It's really pretty simple, but you need to just follow the directions.
Is the around 20MB the amount with Titanium? I love HTC Home since I can use the Today calendar. All these new plugins never show the complete day of apointments.
Yeah I would have to do some reading before I even consider. I do know I would have to downgrade to the original 6.0 OS before going custom. Would I have to go back to 6.0 again and then 6.1 if I decide I don't like 6.5? Already getting scared just thinking about it lol.

In high memory mode after installing all my programs, I start with between 25 and 26 meg free. That is using Titanium.
The only reason (I think) that you'd need to downgrade to 6.0 is if your GPS does not work after your upgrade. And no, you wouldn't need to re-install 6.1 during the process.
Downgrade is necessary if you have a pri of 2.03xx and want gps to work on your custom rom.
I got so sick of this problem I just hard resetted and went for MR1. I will switch to WM6.5 maybe later in the future.
However, I notice my Titan did it again today! It barely has anything on it right now. So I am guessing my memory card might be the problem. So much stuff on it (its a 16GB) like portable apps, every cab I have ever downloaded etc. That's my only guess. Would a memory card be causing this problem?

What you are experiencing is a DSOD (dark screen of death). Usually its because of something installed to your storage card that is always running(not good, things like that need installed to device memory). Also make sure you have no .exe's in the 2577 folder on storage card (if you have the folder).
Here are some possible examples of DSOD's
Disable the automatic ActiveSync checking. This is the official solution from Verizon Data Technical Support.
Do not install software on the storage card that might trigger automatically. That means: Absolutely no today plug-ins, no ring tones, nothing that runs in the background, and nothing that could accidentally be triggered if you hit one of the buttons of your device.
Do not store data that might be accessed automatically. Same thing. Basically, do not store mail attachments on the storage card if you have wireless sync.
Close programs that use the storage card before turning your device off. Magic Button is an excellent tool to do this.
If you do install programs on the storage card, do NOT use the "Programs" window or the start menu to start them. Instead, use a File Explorer to run them. If you use "Programs" or the start menu, that program will be in your list of recently accessed applications in the start menu. So the next time you turn your device on and click on the start menu, the system will access your storage card to load the icon of the application - this will create a noticeable delay of several seconds, if not DSOD.
Don't randomly install crap. Every single piece of software you install could interfere with your system. Limit the software you install to what you really need. Check the forums, some people named a few programs that explicitly did not work for them.
I hope this helps you out.
Wow thanks, that helps a lot!
edit: Not my day. Don't ask me why but I decided to clean some registry after cleaning up my card. Well I deleted something that effects me to not see the verizon mobile site. I posted about it before here. At least now I know what I did wrong with that problem. Anyway, if I were to hard reset, will it revert back to a clean MR1 with all the Verizon stuff? So far I have been just reinstalling MR1 which does it all. The reason I ask is I hate to wait until tonight to do this again. Thanks guys.

Wow, you learn something new every day! Amazing writeup.
It happened again last night but I am thinking it might be caused by the latest SKTools. But not sure since I had it almost a month before this happened. I might go all day without it and see if that is the case. Then if it is the I will get the lower version.
Also, I am going crazy here, which registry edit is to take away the keyboard lag? I cannot remember if it had to do with increasing the gyphe or whatever maybe taking away the speed of the keyboard when it lights up. I just cannot remember. I looked at tons of posts here and PPcgeeks but still cannot find or figure out which one did it. Thanks guys. I need to seriously remember these registry hacks for next time.
ok: it was not SKtools. I put it back on. I decided to wipe my memory card clean and start over. So far so good! Now I will have time to find some registry edits.
I downloaded the audio resources files for the cyan ROM and installed it on my sd card. I reebooted and the ringtones all show up no problem. Later I mounted my sd card to my computer, during this time the phone cant read the card and the ringtones on it. The phone reverted to an internal defalt tone, and never reverted back. I tried puting the files on the ext partition of my sd card used for programs, the phone wont even see them there at all. With my apps on the sd card, I have plenty of room in my internal memory. I would like to install/move the files to internal memory in the media folder. Astro file manager can not do it. Lso while typeing this out, i noticed my right side shift and alt keys do not work, the cursor changes to indicate I pressed it but it will not caps or input symbols, just the normal character.

I haven't had this problem, I'm at a loss. As for as file transfer I use AndExplorer, and have even tranfered sys. apps. Hope this helps.
I will try that program. I have the keyboard issue only sometimes. Twice so far, right now it is fine. Oops spoke to soon. It seems touch input is interfering, takeing over the physical keyboard settings. It started makeing the clicks when I press the bottons, i have that as a setting for the htc keyboard, and the shift keys stopped working and auto correct stopped also. Seems the htc keyboard was never ment to be used on a device with a physical keyboard, might need a bit of tweeking. It is so much more accurate than the standard keyboard though, I would hate to lose it.
I can not find andexplorer in the market is it on the net, download and install from browser?
ur phone cant access the sdcard while its mounted..
That's the point, after I unmount the sd card, I must manually fix my ringtones to my prefered settings. When it can't read the card it reverts to some default ringtone hardwired into the system, that you can't even find in the files list. When that happens, it will not switch back to my settings. I could assign a ringtone to my contacts individually and those would work when the card was readable again, but you can't assign sms tones. And also, anyone that calls not in my contacts would use the default ring, problem is, I can't hear the phone because the sound is on the quiet side.
I found and tried andexplorer but no go, maybe I need to install it with higher permisions.
And as for the keyboard issue, it comes and goes. Sometimes it uses the normal physical keyboard settings and other times it uses the htc keyboard settings. It usually happens when I scroll the browser and need to select the text input area again, switch from normal to landscape veiw when in a text field, or if I use the trackball to move the cursor but move it to far and it starts selecting links outside of the text box. While typing this out, I started in htc settings mode while using the keyboard, little suggested words popup and all, Then it switched to normal physical keyboard settings. And now I'm back to HTC settings... click click click lol
new bug
I started having issues with the screen/phone going into sleep mode while I'm actively using the phone. Typing scrolling, It doesn't matter, it will shut off the screen and go into lock mode.
Happened to me not that long ago... a wipe fixed that one right up... just backup everything using backup for root users and do a wipe.
Yeah I reflashed and it stopped. Learned that the Steel browser goes crazy after a little while when using. The screen stops working properly taping in wrong spot and then jittering and acting crazy.
