Google censorship - Epic 4G General

Just read an article on egadget about google censoring search results for utorrent and the like, and even though they're torrent sites...I think that's a step in the wrong direction.
Now I tried searching for utorrenton the epic and it auto completed, but rapidshare, bit torrent and stuff didn't.
I thought google left china just to avoid censorship :/

Wasn't that just google instant?
Edit: Yup. FUD.
1) Go to google.com
2) Type your search in the search box. For example, type "rapidshare".
3) Now this is the hard part: hit the Enter key
Ta-da! Search results.

I dont see this as a problem at all. They aren't censoring anything. They just arent offering up utorrent and rapidshare as suggestions as you type.

Wait... You mean you can search for something WITHOUT clicking on a suggestion? :sarcasm:

Unacceptable. As protest, I am going to start a Facebook poll asking if this is right or wrong. I will show Google who is boss.

We have choices...
There is always Yahoo and Bing. Google isn't the only game in town.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! I demand that when a regular user is searching for say "towels" torrents pop up as a suggestion so that the user can learn to download illegal music/software! this is a crime against human nature and net neutrality >.> lol

I don't need much. Maybe a few dollars to say it 10 times a day. Usage would spread like wildfire.

Search for "how do I get my dad to" on Google and check out the disturbing second suggested search term.

The first suggested search term was disturbing, I assume many people have been putting that in, so it went higher in the ranks.

It's not just Instant, it's the search suggestions.
Censoring search suggestions is still censorship.
I saw an article that showed things like "how to kidnap a child" being okay... I'm sure Google didn't deliberately say "okay" to that, but the point is they are worried about being sued so much that they are changing their image over it.

I guess I'm the only one who understands the term "its the principle of the fact"

They don't want it so that if a person types in "Pictures of flowers" that they get something bad when they get to "pictures of f"
They aren't "censoring" anything, they're just trying to be careful about what they show people for searches they aren't actually making.
Torrent sites are often sponsored by porn sites, and probably contain torrented porn, so it's not impossible to see the connection even from a non piracy stance.
Only in America can we feel offended by having something free "taken" from us that we didn't really even have until a couple months ago.
There's seriously nothing to see here. Move along.
Edit: Reminds me of this bit from Louis CK
I was on an airplane and they announced there was high-speed Internet on the airplane. We were the first flight with WIFI, and I'm sitting on the plane and they go, open up your laptop, you can go on the Internet.
And it's fast, and I'm watching YouTube clips. It's amazing--I'm on an airplane! And then it breaks down. And they apologize, the Internet's not working. And the guy next to me goes, 'This is bull****.' I mean, how quickly does the world owe him something that he knew existed only 10 seconds ago?

hey dude seriously though, one night i spent hours trying to search for something before i made a post. and it doesn't help that one must wait thirty seconds before searching again, and low and behold someone already posted a thread about it. the only thread in the whole forum i'm guessing, but yet i wasn't able to find it only because my words were not exactly that of the original thread. My point being is that this is a cool website where people go to help each other out. and the only thing i find more annoying than multiple threads resembling the same subjects, is the one person trolling around slapping links to other threads while being unnecessarily rude about it. if this is really all the better you can do to be polite in this forum then maybe you should switch to apple and continue to hold yourself above others and have it be accepted by the elitist peers you would gain. other than that do the world a favor and play nice. please.

Thanks again for the direction, unfortunately I have a T-Mobile US Tab so I have no dialer to enter this settings menu through. Any other suggestions? Also, the low volume I'm looking to fix is in the media player- when I watch movies, other media, the volume seems incredibly low...
Install euro firmware to get the dialer and then the modem switcher to get call/3g data functionality.

In fact the Search function doesn't work,at least on my Galaxy tab. Hen I clidk on Search this forum, a window pops open and when I click in it to bring up the keyboard,it disappears! So I go to advance search, where at least I can type something but it always says no results found!
I've been avoiding flashing my sgt, not that I don't have the ability but more-so because I don't want to have to set everything back up again.
However, after reading this thread, it's another reason to flash me thinks

I just reminded you of a forum rule, you probably didn't read. I said search in a friendly way, and did not use any insult.
I posted a volume fix for the tab, so I know if you searched, you could find it. What litters the threads are the same questions repeatedly asked by people who don't do their work, and the people who argue and insult.
If you disagree with someone, you should say so, and stay away from insults.

XDA to go offline officially on JAN. 18th 2012

I guess xda is planning to officially go offline on purpose on JAN 18th to help petition against SOPA. The only way we can help get xda back online is by getting involved in the fight against SOPA by joining the petition process.
As far as I know this only applies to the U.S., so if you don't live in the U.S. you should have nothing to worry about.
More information about xda's goal here:

More information about SOPA here:

Just thought I would point this out to raise awareness of the situation.

Yes this is total BS. It just proves that the powes that be aren't interested in following the same guidelines they set forth for others. This particular action isn't just an infringement of rights, it's a clear abuse of power. They have no interest in fair and just. This is a clear indicator that if we let them continue down this path, one day we shall all be asking for permission to use our once freedom of speech. They hide their attack of our rights by saying that certain individuals were pirating. But in reality it's the same as confiscating your home, and every house in your neighborhood. Because a person three blocks over might be stealing cable. In essence it is downright ludacris.

Yup, the whole reason they attacked megaupload was because of all the sites like this one protesting against SOPA. Hello even google protested against it. It just goes to show how much of a bully our government can be when people speak their minds. It's like them saying "you don't have rights to free speech or to decide what we the fed government do" or "we make the laws not you the people".

Yeah but the problem is most of them are located in other countries hiding behind proxies. And a lot of isp's don't want to co-operate, and tech they don't have to if they are in certain countries. That's why they call themselves anonymous because it's really hard to find them. Trust me they've gotten smarter since the last time people got arrested. I've done my research on it.

The youknowwho everyone is referring to is you, just to let you know. I will not reply to you again and add you to ignore because I know who you are and don't want to trail any more threads off topic. I can tell that that post is intended to just cause more drama because you are desperate for attention. This post did not contribute to this thread at all (and neither did mine really, but I am replying to another post). If you actually posted something useful that pertains to the thread you are saying it in after searching the internet and getting a knowledge of the subject, I wouldn't rant. The only posts I have seen you post are insulting other users, such as "it is all of the old people" and "marcusant is insulting other users". If you are truly this hypocritical and are truly new even though you seem to reference to events that have happened long before you joined, I would be surprised. I will try to not reply and try to ignore any more posts by AdjectiveAnimal or any other troll that seems to use the exact same phrases. The reasons behind my insulting (it really wasnt insulting), was to show you what you are saying to other users in the forum. I am really confused as to why you would cause this much drama on a PPC development forum. I would be less mad if you actually contributed positively to the community. I hope that you read this post entirely. Please do not respond (I am talking to everybody) as it will bring this thread more off course. I see that you are already banned. I hope that if you do make a new alternate account that you actually attempt to contribute. I'm sorry for any thread jacking or additional drama. Have a nice day.
Now for a real reply. I find it odd that they are able to sue for data throttling that everyone has noticed and known about for a while. It still effects android phones and probably dumbphones with 3g. This is one reason I chose sprint. But I do bet that the throttled speeds are faster than Sprint's 3g on a good day.
I think he makes it fun and funny. I also find it entertaining that people are still replying. The gassyP account has been disabled since last nite.
