Just noticed this in the Epic's Device Known Issue within Sprint
Description:
If a user tries to access flash content while browsing the internet, they may see a message like "Missing License Key" where the content would normally be displayed and in extreme cases, they may experience a browser crash.

The Samsung Epic 4G does not support flash at this time. It will be included in a future MR. Timing on the MR is still TBD but should release in 4Q2010.

Every company has their own fiscal year. My compant matches the calender year. Many companies it ends/starts in October. I've never seen the breakdown you're showing, maybe that's when they release their earnings statements?
Both Sprint and Samsung follow a Jan-Dec. fiscal year.

either way unless they pull a rabbit out their pants it aint gonna happen by the 31st, if it was that close chances are we would have concrete proof, companies that large leak like a mother...
I would love to be proven wrong tho.....
Retailers are generally the only ones with a fiscal year ending 1/31. They do this so they capture after x-mas sales at the end of their tax year. That's not to say that you can't have a fiscal year ending at any point you want, July for example. It's up to the company to elect.
Well they didn't say 4th quarter of their fiscal year. They said 4th quarter of 2010 which clearly ends on 12/31/2010.

You have to remember the updates via OTA takes time. It could be they might roll it out later on in the week in stages. There are millions of Epics out there and image if they roll it out at once and borks half of them the call center would be overwhelmed with calls.
So they rather just send out in batches at a time to see how the roll outs are working.
I don't want this to sound rude. Its not intended to be. Samsung sold approximately 4 million Galaxy S devices in North America. That includes the USA, Canada, and the other countries combined. Of those 4 million, just in the USA, you have 4 variants. Now the little ole Epic numbers aren't quite that large. If they were rolling out updates, it wouldn't take to long. Unless Sprint rolls them out to 20 of us at a time.
It's sad, Samsung doesn't care and Sprint is so worried about its customer satisfaction that they don't want to release an update without it being prefect. I want the update as bad as everyone else. Im just not going to get a Samsung handset ever again.

So Q2 2011 is the date..
Edit 1 week later
They have sent another mail about that mail (the one above) saying that:
"We would like to correct the statement that we have told you in the previous mail about Android 2.2 version. The information that has been given to you by SE Customer Service is not true We are sorry about the misinforming..
I guess Jeff's investigation worked out Cheers
already have 2.2 on mine waiting for next version of AOSP that TeamX10 are working on. I dont want another SE ROM on my phone unless i have to have one
Thanks for sharing that anyway, it will get many people excited!

But that's great news, imo! I think they want to make amends for all the delays with 2.1.
Well... 2.1, then Dual-touch, then 2.2... Sounds like an almost apropriate "excuse-us" for me.
hmm...the words i got is different, so i would recommend not to put up all hopes to the words that they gave out. I will try to confirm from my side too whether the info is correct. This is due to the new handsets are pushing out with 2.3. Also, the end of life cycle of the X10 is Q1 2011, and SE usually doesn't bring out updates for its product after its EOL (Same policy with all companies). Thanks for the info though!

Yep. March 2012 seems like the correct date.
correct date for warranty, but cell phone companies doesn't produce the same phone for more than 1 year, with some exceptions of course.
We're not talking about warranty - SE have committed to support the X10 with software updates for 2 years.. so it would go "end of life" March 2012.

Given my limited Turkish, I think it reads something more along the lines of:
Ha! fools - do you honestly think you're going to get 2.2 in this lifetime. As an absolute best, products we release in 2011 may get a 2.2 upgrade, providing it is at least 3 or 4 steps behind the current Android release
Like I say, my Turkish is pretty poor, but I think that's the gist of it...

Great. I have been a SE user since 1997 (Ericsson prior to 2001). All of my phones since that time have all been SE with the exception of a few months using Alcatel. My most recent phone was the C902i which was released summer 2008. I have had a firmware upgrade 3 times since then. The most recent one was back in March or April of this year. You can say all you want about SE being late releasing updates but, they do not abandon their phones. Unlike Samsung, which my wife uses, who abandon them a few months after release. They may have changed now but, that is my experience with them.

I think we should better lobby with SE to release the 2.3 update rather than blabbering on about Froyo, given SE have already spent their resources on upgraging to 2.3. Would be a viable thing for them to do as well.

woah woah woah, calm down please, I have not mentioned ONE WORD about SE being late. All I'm saying is whether the info is correct. We (SE and I) have had times where the customer support are not well informed. We've seen MANY cases here since before the 2.1 update. I never said SE will abandon their phones either, but internal people (like me) would know when the EOL of each handset is, and they only last 1 year. 1 1/2 AT MOST. Aino got extended due to the new Classic edition release, but they're the only exception so far. So please don't start bashing on me, I was just suggesting and warn about the info, not to bash on SE.

The devs got 2.3 update since last weekend on the new handsets. SE skipped 2.2 and went straight from 2.1 update-1 to 2.3 on the new handsets (Our X10 will still receive the update-2 however, the update-1 on the new handsets was only for debugging) So MR is already wrong on their facts, and I'm not surprised since Eldar isn't the one who wrote it.
My Wife and I have the EVO, I am running 6.1 C mod, but my Wife doesn't want me to install custom roms on her phone. When do you think HTC will update the EVO to 2.3 Gingerbread ? And will it even happen at all, or will they just concentrate on the EVO-2, due out in 5 months.

That is kind of what I think too. Then it makes me wonder, the EVO-2, should be out I am sure, on the one year anniversary of the EVO, so that would be in June, to compete with the iPhone5
But with HTC slower to bring out updates due to SENSE UI, will the EVO-2 be a "Gingerbread" dual core device, or hopefully a "Honeycomb" dual core phone ? What are the predictions ?
Of course its just speculation, but i think Evo-2 will be gingerbread as will most phones in 2011. If we see honeycomb it wont be till the very end of 2011 i think.
I personally gave up waiting for 2.3 on the Evo and just flashed custom ROM. As you said it usually takes HTC longer because they have to incorporate Sense into it. If the Evo see's 2.3 (i beleive it will) then it will prob be late in the Q1 or early Q2 of 2011.

Honeycomb will be shown off on tablets in just a few days, and I'd expect those tablets to be on store shelves in just a matter of weeks. My guess is that Honeycomb (or it's equivalent for phones) will follow the usual Android update schedule and will be released for phones in May. With the Nexus S just dropping I'd expect that the new OS is being developed on it, so HTC will probably be scrambling around May to get it working on their phones. The EVO 2 (if it even will exist) will probably be announced a few weeks before that so chances are that it will ship with 2.3 and get the newer update a few months/weeks later just like the original EVO.
As for 2.3 on the EVO. I wouldn't hold my breath. There's a decent shot of it coming but with all the new flagship phones that HTC now supports, it's probably a low priority for them. If it does come, I wouldn't be surprised if that it takes as long as March or more.
I was pretty surprised how fast the EVO officially got 2.2 it was like two months after the phone came out. So in theory can we expect 2.3 Gingerbread for the EVO in mid to late February ? I wouldn't be surprised if it does come out around then. Because around that time "Honeycomb" will soon be getting all the press and being released on the major Tablets in March they say.
Strictly theory and conjecture? I'd say late February. I know we're going to be one of the first to get GB, but I also know that Sprint likes to take its sweet ass time releasing updates. You have to remember that HTC releases the beta to the telecoms, and they beta test like crazy before release. Sprint just happens to take the longest usually.

Not necessarily. Many ROM devs will alter some of the files so that OTA notifications don't appear by tricking the phone into thinking it has a different version.
I was actually in a corporate Sprint store a couple days ago and overheard two employees talking about the evos "update sometime next (this) month".

Samsung Mobile Spain has confirmed on Twitter that SGSII will have an Exynos in spain and I have read today that SGSII will have an Exynos in France too. So we can think that all european countries will have Exynos.

i have a hunch the Exynos will be more widely available than the "nvidia" one
there is a problem all the time with ATI / Nvidia chipsets, they always gets forgotten after a while (no drivers updates or available to the public)
so the Exynos will the the chefs choice, as we'll have the open source to keep building on them
It should have been Nvidia all the way,,reports are cuming that Europe will get SGS 2 with Samsung own Orion processor & Asia region getting SGS 2 with Nvidia
I am too waiting for the Launch of Galaxy S II in INDIA. Hope Samsung India will get it soon...
Add an 's' and the meaning is quite different. 'In the coming months' makes much more sense than 'In the coming month'. That would also give them at least 2 or 3 months. 'In the coming month' just sounds strange and is super ambiguous.

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather sweet -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable. Now that's change we can believe in.

I believe it's too little too late for our beloved X10's
could be a little too late but seeing how quickly manufacturers tend to do upgrades and considering the fact that the 1 and a half year old X10 IS getting Gingerbread... doesn't seem that bad, could be worse (aka Motodesk...) and, either the costumers feedback or the really awesome work devs do over here, it's nice seeing Sony Ericsson coming to an agreement of having the latest Android version on the devices
Haha. That is awesome. 18 months. Right about the time your 2 year contract is up in most places where there is carrier subsidy. Gives you about 6 months to think about what your next phone will be...otherwise you'll be stuck on an "old" OS version after that.
Still, it is pretty cool that they have an update policy in place now. All things considered, 18 months is actually decent; there could be lots of hardware improvements in addition to the OS improvements in that time, unless phone technology plateaus like computers did a while back before picking up again. But it would be hilarious if the phone companies released an update the day after the 18 months are up...
i belive these will go hand in hand with the new arc play neo and newer xperia minis!
x10 wont recieve any futher updates above 2.3.3
its to late to our x10 , we must trust in our xda dev
Note that this is a policy for this year's phones and beyond, and does not apply to our X10s. Though the fact that we are getting the GB update is awesome.

18 months is hardly decent in the mobile business... especially in regards to Android.
18 months ago brings us back to the launch of Android Eclair. With this policy, SE would have been totally fine letting us run Android 1.6 until April 26 2011.

What??
Did you read it? It is saying 18 months of getting updates as they roll out from google, meaning we would already be on gingerbread.....
18 months of guaranteed timely updates is awesome, and unparalleled so far in the world of mobile smartphones
Maybe I am confused, but I believe Gingerbread was released in December 2010. 18 months from that takes us to June 2012.
If I'm wrong please let me know.
What a huge joke. 18 months IF the hardware is capable? So what? 1 update and for some stupid reason the hardware cannot handle the next update.
Nothing will change except for later updates because now they have to provide an update within 18 months not even close to the stock release date like some manufacturers do already.

You are not understanding what this means....
It isn't saying 18 months between updates, it is saying up until 18 months after the phone is put out you will get every update as it is released, so no waiting around for companies to release their own "custom" versions and getting left behind. Meaning we would have gotten gingerbread immediately.
Just read it over a couple times and saw where I mis-read what it said. I was assuming 18 months after release of the OS not 18 months of the release for the device.
Cheers

well they can't release tablet software on a smartphone that isn't the same resolution, etc.....
I think that is more so what they mean.
Also, some phones released have been released with very outdated specs (i.e.- all of SE's new lineup) so if they release a dual core specific version of android, that would be sony's fault, not googles.
This sounds like a positive move to me.
To bad they couldn't implement this sooner... they could have avoided att eol-ing this device with not one update.

I guess that the las update for ours X10 will be the ice cream sandwich OS, it's a new universal OS designed for all android devices..

No, the last would be Gingerbread.
Since the X10 would not follow this policy (think this policy only applies to new phones).

At&t is already losing my business. Too little way too late. Add that to billing issues and abhorrent home internet and I'll never go back.

Now it's just up to handset developers to stay awake & aware.
If they screw around Google will drop them like flies.
This really sound better to me. My next phone will also be Android so at least I will benefit from it then.
As i have been looking over the web, searching Asus's FB pages, there were some answers when TF101 will get ICS update.
But the problem is because different Asus people answer us differently.
NOTE! All quotes are from their FB pages, you can check them out.
Nr.1: From: "ASUS North America": soon. Its in the process of being approved by google. once that is done we will be able to push it out to you guys.
Nr.2: From: "ASUS": Possibly Feb. No confirmed dates at this point. -Mark, ASUS
Nr.3: From: "ASUS Serbia" Lepa vest za korisnike Transformer TF101. Ice Cream Sandwich za isti se očekuje polovinom februara. (meaning: we get it in mid Feb.)
So, what do you guys think? We get that ICS in mid feb, sooner or later?
I kinda bet its gonna be later than that
Signed.
id say somewhere between next week and mid February.
How about when we get it, we get it. There are so many threads dedicated to this topic already.
I don't think it will be mid February that's for a Serbia. I think Asia asus might be closer to truth.

I would have to say that this is just one too many threads about this update. Geez!
close this topic, asus has already announced the ICS update will be sometime during the last week of January (which also includes the first week of February). We can only wait and see if they are accurate.
Anyone think we will get strawberry shortcake before Dec 2012?

The Mayan didn't say anything about SSC. So i would say no.
Asus NA is right for NA consumers. Mid-February seems correct if you're living in Serbia. It has nothing to do with NA consumers since the launch appears to be staggered based on location.
So for NA consumers it's "soon". End of story.
I think it will come when Federer wins the Australian Open. Or when Nadal breaks another knee or something.

Although I can't find it right now, I remember reading one of Asus's facebook comments that said the US and Taiwan will get the update at the same time.
Asus Italia said at the END of february.... Anyway i think it will released at the end of this one.... i HOPE
Only when asus hears no more complaints from disgruntled transformer prime customers unable to update to ics due to "unknown serial number" debacle.
I suggest all those who are complaining daily about the delay of ICS jump over to the prime forum and see how much fun they are having with the ICS update. Yes I would like the ICS update, but not at the expense of the problems the prime folks are having. Maybe it is best we don't have it just yet.
Can't wait!
I voted never.
I dont expect anything from modern capitalist companies who care about numbers and not persons and dont give a damn about customers who created the base for the prime and the future autobot and so on....
the same applies to samsung with galaxy s and ics.
the 40 million that put samsung in the mobile map.
dont expect anything from modern casino-capitalism multinational companies.

That's a lot of hate, but i agree, if I were to own this company i'd do everything for charity, making a profit is overrated!
I don't know how focused they can be on updating the old-gen Transformer, but I guess they will update, since both are catering to different market segments, and you might want to get the cheaper TF101 if it's good enough for you even with the TF201 out.
That said, I'm sure they'll be using the Prime as an ICS Guinea pig. I voted for mid-February, and I guess we'll get several minor updates after it's out (whenever it's out) for bug fixing (as it's been the case so far).
Damnit Asus... Yesterday they said "Awaiting Google approval", and now they're saying Mid-February...
