Um. What? It's an image, the tab doesn't care what the contents of the image is as long as it's a valid file (i.e from Gallery). How are you putting them on there?

It's the high jpg compression I guess...
Same "problem" here. But I also have the same "issues" on win7 desktop... so I don't know if it is a valid problem par definition :-/

Did you use the built in gallery app to set it? Because that's a.... well, "Samsung software" sums it up
Try QuickPic, it's free in the market.
The screen is very well capable of handling gradients, it's that software side, the stupid app makes a mess out of your pictures.
It might also be an issue of screen setting, too much contrast is bound to do that.

of course the tab doesn't care as long as its there and its valid, I use dropbox or usb transfer to transfer my wallpapers, the images look quite jagged on the screen especially near the gradient areas...

they show pretty fine on my WINDOWS 7 x64 also the gallery on the tab shows them alright, but when selected as wallpapers it does something with the image that it messes up.
I'm using QuickPic to apply wallpapers !

The only issue I've had going this route is that when using WW is that it "repaints" the screen and resizes while reorienting....it doesn't just flip...it's annoying...
There's no more issue anymore. The latest Asus Transformer update version 8.4.4.5 (Android 3.1) features the new wallpaper crop tool which shows you a preview of how the wallpaper will look, so you can adjust it properly.

I agree there is a preview with 3.1 but you are still unable to use the full image. This app allows the entire image with 0 crop
Doesn't work for me, still crops. Multi picture live wallpaper works perfectly tho.
Neither of those apps worked for me like I wanted...each introduced new issues that weren't an acceptable trade off for me.
I resigned myself to just getting wallpapers from the web and using "set as"...that seems to work nicely and not crop anything.
There isn't a wallpaper issue!
It's you the users fault for having/trying to install wallpapers that are the wrong resolution
I have about 25 wallpapers installed at 1610x1280 and never have to crop any of them, ever.
It works well enough for me. Thanks for the tip.

I couldn't FIND any pre cropped at 1610 x 1280...I had to pre crop them in picasa and then set them as wallpaper...
Where did you find ready made wallpaper at that resolution?
Does this issue still exist though?

Not when I tried it. It only had a "burp" while reorienting...like a temporary fritz while it figured out what to do ...
I stopped using it because of that.

This issue has been bugging me, I will try finding / creating backgrounds that size. Thanks for the tip!
even creating images at that size I still have cropping issues
Works for me too. Thanks!
Still a fail for me. Croping an image thats already too small into a smaller part that looks grainy..(kind of like trying to type into this forum in Dolphin HD) just doesn't work for me. I just go to the web at someplace like alphacorders that you can pick resolution long press and save as wallpaper.
3.1? Still doesn't look ready for prime time IMO
Hi,
The wallpaper I used with honeycomb doesn't fit properly with ics.
I used the galery app which tells me to crop the picture. So do I. What I get ? A little picture in the center of the screen. What's the matter ? Yet, my picture is 1920x1408.
Without using a dedicated app, what's the best way to place a wallpaper on the screen ?
Thanks,
Siso

Whats the problem? They all look like that, or are you trying to say that its blurry ?
If so I would try to get another version of that image from the web, http://images.cyberimg.com/android/2012/06/28/jellybean_wallpaper-650x541.jpeg
Try downloading that and swapping the image out.
If the "Noise" persist, then I don't think their is anything wrong with your image.
Hope this helps.
So compare
tau . rghost . ru/40813681/image.png (dont forget to zoom)
and
cdn01 . androidauthority . com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/wallpaper_01.jpg
Difference is more noticeable at png.
By the way, when i fresh install any ROM, this wallpaper looks normal, but when i set this wallpaper again in wallpapers menu, it has this noise;

Also, i have a simmilar problem with whole screen. It seems that between the glass and the screen is dirty. It makes simmilar effect on the whole screen, but its not noticeble as this wallpaper bug. So difference between images you can see on any display.
It's all very weird.

Okay, now I see what you are talking about!
It seems like the one on the right was saved with a lower color depth producing noticeable dithering. I can't tell you why the same image would appear differently with different ROMs though, I have no idea.
I could upload the default wallpapers for you when I get home tonight if you would just like to restore them though.

Thank mate, but i want to fix it permanently.
Is there a way to do a FULL wipe, really FULL? Lol.
So anybody know, where is stock wallpapers folder?
Updating to 4.1.2 didn't fixed this problem.
Hi, I sure hope this doesn't count as thread-necromancy, but my search didn't lead to any other results (except this guy here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817956 - an even older thread.)
I just wanted to confirm this issue, I guess. The stock wallpapers really turned from (more or less) crispy clear to a grainy mess.
I bought my Nexus 7 on release here in Germany, first half of September iirc. Everything fine, no hardware issues at all.
Some day, the OTA Update to 4.2.1 turned up, I confirmed and installed it. The new dropdown settings are cool and all, but...
Yeah, the stock wallpapers got all noisy. The update somehow messed them up.
I use the green one on every Android device I own, so there's no doubt. Noticed it the second the homescreen became visible.
I have no idea why Google would reduce the quality, if that's even an intended change. And, yes, you can simply download the "old, good" version and set it as wallpaper, but it remains a weird issue. Hey, at least we are not imagining it.
Hello guys,
I'm new to this site so 'Hello Everybody'
I discovered a very annoying thing in my phone's Gallery.Every photo taken or already toke is unclear, blurry. When i click on the photos to enlarge it becomes sharp and clear, everything fine, but as long as i overview the photos all of them are blurry.Even photos taken with another Camera program. I attach 3 Screenshots to show what i exactly talking about.
Please help me guys
They're just thumbnails. As long as the pictures show correctly when you view the full picture, it's perfectly normal.
Oh, and for the next time, ask questions in the Q&A forum. It's there for a reason, you know.

Thank you very much for the fast reply and sorry for posting to the wrong place.
But anyway this can be caused because of the os? Bug or somethin? Is there any chance the new 4.2.2 update fixes this? because i had a G note before the S3 and i didnt met this blurry thumbnail thing?
i just checked my gallery and my thumbnails are almost as clear as the enlarged pic,. know this sounds dumb but have you tried setting another system font

Use a file explorer that can show hidden files, then go to sdcard/DCIM/ and delete the .thumbnails folder... reboot, then open the gallery - the thumbnails will then all be rebuilt. Might take a while depending on how many photos you have.
Then see if they're still blurry!

On this week i rooted the phone with odin for avast anti thieft then i reinstalled the stock 4.1.2 with Kies.Device status is normal. Can this cause the problem?Personally i don't think this maneuver can affect the Gallery thumbnails, but i'm far away from a phone expert.

I followed the directions in a recent post on XDA about utilizing Freeform Window Mode to see if it worked on Mate 9. Short answer is it does!
It allows you to, for example, play a video on YouTube and do something else in a different window like type a message. It's a little rough on the edges but definitely usable.
Here is a link to article with instructions if you missed it.

Yes! Don't know how to do that yet.
Here are a few screen shots to show what it looks like on Mate 9. In the screen shot with the recently used apps shown, if you touch the rectangular icon on the top of the app's frame it returns the app to the screen in a floating resizable form again.
HI @mscion
Did you use adb? Will it stay after restart if I use the adb?

Yes to both questions! The app taskbar, that is described in the post I reference works pretty well too. It opens a window you can scroll through all your apps and then select one to open in a floating resizeable window. One thing I noticed is that, when opening an app from recents, it sometimes hangs, not sure if that is related to the the launcher I use. The overall user experience is not as developed as what you would find on the Samsung Note devices but it is quite usable. Plus it won't pause a Youtube video if you change focus to another window. Here is a screen shot with the taskbar window open.
Just did it. Works well. Not sure if I will use it anytime soon though.

Glad it worked! Mate 9 screen is still a bit small to do much with floating windows. Same with Samsung Note series. If one can broadcast screen on a larger monitor might come in handy using a bluetooth keyboard to write a document or some other multitasking.

Just picked up Chromecast Ultra. Does a nice job of broadcasting Mate 9 screen to tv monitor. Floating windows appear to look OK so in principle you could have a desktop experience. Some pictures off my monitor.
