So i had to Odin back to stock because in whatever rom i used i wouldnt get vibration for text messages. This worked fine and i flashed back to eugenes stock jk2 that was prerooted. Now i need to install new roms again and im having trouble. I have rom manager installed and superuser was already there. I got the rom on the sd card (tried with multiple roms), but when i go to flash the roms it fails because it can't verify the signature. Even when i go to fix permissions and reboot my phone like rommanager tells me to it cant flash a new rom. On the other roms i had i would just go to advanced options in recovery and disable verification checks but with the stock recovery i cant do this. So my main question is why isnt this option in cwm recovery and how can i get it there so i can start getting roms again. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this...
Make sure that you have CWM recovery flashed onto your phone using odin. Also make sure that whatever rom you install is on agreement with your software version.

Are you putting the rom on the internal memory?
Yea i copied it to the iternal sd, i see it on the internal sd, but the only way to reflash it is to rename it update.zip becauae all i can do is reinstall system packages
You have to download cwmrecovery, plug your phone in while in download mode and put cwmrecovery onto your phone. Just installing rom manager doesn't cut it and trying to flash anything will give the exact errors you're talking about.

You put the rom Just on the internal sd card not any folders right?
its doesent matter at least for me if the rom is right there or in a folder no difference just file called update.zip need to be there (not in the folder )
and no ! u cant flash clockwork recovry thru odin ! loL both of these program u mentioned are intended to flash roms not to be flashed as rom p u can flash in clockwork recovery if the rome is made for it which would be packed with .zip file if its odin file it would be .tar not every rom is flashable thru odin or clockwork depends how devs made it

Yea it was on the internal sd, i mean iv probably flashed 20 different roms and i know how to move them between different file folders and how to access them ect... The only problem is basically that im stuck in stock which has a different recovery

Here is the update.zip that will flash you into clockwork from stock recovery. Put this on your phone's internal sd, reboot to recovery, and hit "reinstall packages". If your phone reboots to stock recovery again, hit reinstall packages again and the second time it should put you right into Clockwork Recovery. Good Luck.

What rom are you currently running, still on Eugene's JK2? If you Odin'd a stock file, you may have 2e recovery, not the modded 3e. Check this thread, it may help you out with the stock recovery issue. In fact untermensch mentions this kind of issue specifically in the OP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

ok so here is my problem...
My phone i showing 0.00B of storage space, same issue as other posters. However, something corrupted my SD card so I have no CWM and no CWM recovery or backup. What I have done so far...I have flashed the stock ROM and Kernal via Odin. My phone will power on and I can use it like normal, however, I have 0.00B of space and cannot download or install anything. I have restored root and am unsure of where to go from here since I can't just download CWM via the market and go from there. Can anyone please help me? Also, this is my first time rooting etc, so I am not familiar with every acronym and process, if someone could just take the time and write out in simple terms what I need to do to get my phone back to normal I would truly.....truly appreciate it, thanks in advance to anyone who will try and help.

I hope someone can help you out, but I hope this also serves notice for others who are first time rooters. If you aren't sure what to do, either don't do it, or get some help before possibly ruining your phone.
Well...you couldn't have predicted your sd card failing. Do you have another? Head over to cyanogen mod forum and see if you can get the apk on to another sd card.

Sounds to me like you had a voodoo kernel installed and then installed a stock kernel, without the voodoo properly uninstalling. If this is the case, I would try the following:
Get the CWM update.zip and put on your sd card.
Put the old voodoo kernel that you had on your sd card.
Boot into recovery and run the update.zip, putting you into CWM recovery.
Reinstall the old voodoo kernel.
Reboot, if everything works and you can download apps again you will need to completely uninstall the voodoo kernel. Follow the instructions posted in this forum to completely uninstall the voodoo kernel. You can find these instructions in this thread.
Make sure you use the manual install, I did not have any luck with the zip file uninstall. Also make sure you do the final step and wipe the data.
Once these steps are completed, you should have your original kernel installed with voodoo gone completely, and you should have your disk space back.
If this is not what happened, then I am sorry I am not sure what to try. I know that these are the same symptoms that I had and this is what fixed mine.
Good luck.

Can you take your new sd card, go into recovery, and format the SDcard by any chance? Can you do this with your old one?

when i try to boot into recovery mode I get this message
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (invalid argument)
I cannot flash CWM if I can't download the app. Since I have no space on my phone it's not allowing me to download or install anything, and without and existing version of Rom Manager on my SD card I dont know how I will be able to boot into CWM recovery.
I'm not sure I'm following this.. Your SD card does, or does not work?
If you flash the Voodoo kernel back you should get to the point where you can then download whatever you need since that should solve your zero free space problem. You can flash the Voodoo kernel via Odin. Just download the Voodoo kernel you want, open up the zip file, and find zImage. Extract that. You might have to put it into .tar format to flash, or Odin might just accept a plain zImage file. I'm not sure. Always use "PDA" when flashing with Odin, never ever ever ever ever ever ever use the "phone" box. Always PDA.
Assuming you have a working SD card, recovering from this should be pretty straightforward.
The key here is you obviously need to extract the zImage file (which is the actual kernel) to flash via Odin. This removes the need for ROM Manager, or any access to the GUI.

That will get you a functional CWM recovery. You'll still see that error in stock recovery since your mbr is still set for Voodoo.
If you want to apply Voodoo back, and try to correctly uninstall it, you'll need to flash this (Voodoo zImage). I've extracted just the zImage form Dirrk's SV_1100 Voodoo kernel.
You'll need to flash it, it might do the conversion, then once you've booted into the OS, you'll need to create the disable_lagfix file. How to do that is in one of the "How to Uninstall Voodoo" threads.
file attached.. you need to remove the .zip extension.. it should just be .tar , but xda doesn't allow .tar files.

100% correct. Going back to stock takes an extra few steps after CWM, so I suggest trying Voodoo first. The problem with 0.00 free space is that your mbr is still set for Voodoo. It didn't get put back to stock, so ideally you flash voodoo, then uninstall, and the uninstall sets your mbr back to stock.
CWM is for other troubleshooting, if you need it. I'm not going to be around for a bit, but it sounds like this should get you to a point where you can recover from. I highly recommend joining the irc channel and having someone walk you through it step by step.

I am on a rooted Samsung Vibrant running Froyo and CWM 2.5.1.2. I cannot boot into CWM's recovery. I tried flashing CWM again and again, but I didn't work. I tried reinstalling packages at least 5 times and nothing. I just boot into the normal recovery. It worked the very first time I tried it, right after I rooted it and I installed CWM for the first time, then I had to reinstall packages twice. I used super-one-click to root my phone. I am using the latest version of busybox. I have given ROM Manager superuser access. I reinstalled ROM Managed. I deleted the clockworkmod folder and update.zip and installed CWM again. I have tried re-rooting twice with no success. What's the problem? It worked the very first time I rooted. But why not now?
I have this happen from time to time with ROM Manager....I just go clear down to the bottom and install an older version...say 2.5.1.1, hit reboot into recovery and it does, and then I update back to 2.5.1.2 and it will work after that on the newer version

Also, earlier today I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305

When you did this where you on 2.2 (kA6) or 2.1 (JI6)?
im asking because im on 2.2 but for the life of me i havent been able to get clockwork to run. ive done almost every single step there is out there and have had no luck, but im thinking that my phone is HW locked so that may be my problem.
i can flash any stock rom through odin (JFD) (JI6)
and (KA6) through kies mini
but i cant get into clockwork recovery in any of those rom's.
I've been having a lot of problems getting my tmobile vibrant into cwm recovery,
i flashed recovery through cwm and selected boot into recovery. when i get into recovery and select reinstall packages, I get mixed messages.
i tried flashing cwm with the initial update.zip it puts on the sd, little bar shows up at the bottom and gets about 1/3 of the way, and says
E:/failed to verify whole file signature.
installation aborted.
Went into clockworkmod folder on my computer retrieved the recovery-update.zip, renamed it update.zip. I tried putting both of these files on the sd card root, /external_sd, phone internal memory and the sd folder on the phone. nothing works
Am i doing this wrong?
Have you tried the fix permissions option in CWM? I have had strange errors like that before and that helped.
can you be more specific please?
it says an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands.

I guess this post is dead.
Thanks for the help guys.):
Go into SuperUser and see if it runs. It sounds like you lost root. If that is the case you may need to re-root it.
What do you mean you flashed recovery through cwm? If you can already use cwm you shouldn't have a problem.
Have you tried downloading ROM manager from the market? You will need to have your phone rooted to install cwm through ROM manager.

Your wording is pretty hard to understand, but I seem to detect a hint of sarcasm. You really can't get angry for not receiving a response in only 13 minutes. There are plenty of people here who would have helped you out, but when you post at 1:19am EDT, there isn't a lot of traffic on the forum...
You don't need to rename anything. Please download the latest version of ROM manager from market and then download this CWM from here and follow the instructions well. After that, when you flash something, anything, do not do 'apply update from sdcard', instead directly select the zip files from sdcard by rebooting into recovery and then look for the zip file by going to 'install zip from sdcard - choose zip from sdcard' and then look for specific zip file and then select/install it.

It was my understanding that with CWM 3.0.2.4, the method you linked to was no longer necessary and considered outdated. The newest version can flash both Gingerbread and Froyo ROMs, and doesn't have the charging bug.

hey all,
so i am incredibly new to this scene and just recieved my s4. i was preparing to flash a ROM onto my phone, and got it rooted and installed CWM.
I forgot to download the actual ROM zip file, and went into CWM via goo manager, wiped factory/data and cache. It was only AFTER i wiped everything that i realised i didnt download the ROM zip file, so i rebooted the phone and now it is stuck on the start-up splash screen where it displays "Samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505" and will not continue :crying:
I was running on stock, and had only rooted the phone.
PLEASE i urgently need to fix this ASAP. Help!
Hi,
is there a Odin Version of the Rom you tried to flash? If yes, you could simply bring your device to download-mode and flash the Rom with Odin.
Alternatively search for a odin flashable Recovery and flash this first. Then you could boot to recovery and flash the zip of the Rom.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
i tried installing the liquid smooth rom, and from what i can see there is no odin version of the rom :\
Are you able to direct me to an Odin flashable recovery I can use?
im really stressing out about this
i'm in the process of downloading a stock firmware and will try to flash it on, but it's taking forever to download
I don't see why you can't boot again if you have only wiped the user data and cache, just press the home button for 10 seconds and see if it restarts with your reset stock firmware. Otherwise you can reboot into recovery and do the wipes again (not the option to install a new ROM), or put the ROM zip you want to flash on an SD card and then flash from the SD.
I hope this helps.

You should of made a backup with CWM. That's what it's used for also, besides flashing .zips. Always make a backup that you can restore and keep an extra copy on ur computer and/or a usb drive.
You have to use Odin to flash a stock firmware from Sammobile website. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your phone.
Dont worry, your phone isn't brick.
when i first did the wipe, i chose the option that i was going to install a new ROM. I'm now assuming that's where i made a mistake.
I did make a backup before i wiped everything onto my SD card, but now i can't even access that backup because it's saying there's nothing.
I've tried flashing a ROM onto it, but it says aborted.
Yes SORF ist right. It should boot into resetted stock firmware.
First try to copy the Rom to SD and then boot to recovery an try flashing it.
If booting to recovery doesn't work (but it should work if you just wiped user data and cache) you should try flashing new recovery with odin.
You could use Philz recovery for GT-I9505 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
Installation Instructions for installation with odin you find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39433857&postcount=4

Thanks, that's what I'm doing right now, but the file is about 1.8GB and taking so long to download...
i wish there was a faster server, but this is the only option i could find :\
Have you tried to boot into recovery again and then flash your already downloaded rom from sd? So you don't have to download a complete sammy rom.

yes i have tried that, and it says that install aborts.
Also when i re-wipe everything and then try to reboot, it says my device is missing root.
When i try to re-root, and the device reboots, it gets stuck on the intro screen again so the root doesn't actually complete installing
have you fixed it yet?
so im going to try a different ROM other than the liquid smoothe one i wanted (since it keeps saying aborted)
question: does it matter if i use ANY s4 ROM regardless of carrier? I'm from Australia and there is no specific carrier for my phone on xda
Why does it fails to install? Are there any more error messages?
Also you can try the point "Fix Permissions" under Advanced Options. This could help.

try something lite like miui - it will save you time on download and is a good solid base to work from. dont flash the lite gapps without a reboot.
for a solid Sami based rom then i suggest using GoldenEye.

ok so i went ahead and found the cyanogenmod one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317040
and installed this and it works
though i dont like the look of this ROM lol, i prefer something a little more stock looking.
Any recommendations?
When reflashing a new ROM, what is the process i need to follow?
Cyanogenmod is themeable. So you could search for a stock like theme and install that.
If you like an overall more stock rom try scottyf79's recommendation.
If you want to flash a complete new Rom first copy zip onto sd, then boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, then falsh zip file.
Try the Omega Roms. They are close to stock.
Closest to stock are the prerooted DJembey ROMs (the CWM ones) or the Wanam Lite ROM (it's what I am on now)

personally -
i use Philz recovery
before install of a new rom - i use the "new rom" wipe option rather than the normal data, cache and dalvik wipe (it does this but adds in some extra steps)
then flash the rom of choice
if you get any other messages before reboot - select no
like i said before, if you want a stock looking Sami rom then try Golden Eye.
