I *CANNOT* boot into ClockWork recovery! - Vibrant General

I am on a rooted Samsung Vibrant running Froyo and CWM 2.5.1.2. I cannot boot into CWM's recovery. I tried flashing CWM again and again, but I didn't work. I tried reinstalling packages at least 5 times and nothing. I just boot into the normal recovery. It worked the very first time I tried it, right after I rooted it and I installed CWM for the first time, then I had to reinstall packages twice. I used super-one-click to root my phone. I am using the latest version of busybox. I have given ROM Manager superuser access. I reinstalled ROM Managed. I deleted the clockworkmod folder and update.zip and installed CWM again. I have tried re-rooting twice with no success. What's the problem? It worked the very first time I rooted. But why not now?

I have this happen from time to time with ROM Manager....I just go clear down to the bottom and install an older version...say 2.5.1.1, hit reboot into recovery and it does, and then I update back to 2.5.1.2 and it will work after that on the newer version

Sorry, that didn't work.

Opps didnt see the Froyo..you need a modded 3e recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

Yea you have to use the "froyo" version, but you will also need to delete slacker radio from your phone via titanium first. That is the only way it would work for me.

Sorry, that didn't work either. Should I just restore to the stock 2.2 on my Vibrant? If so, where would I get the Stock 2.2 Vibrant files?

How do you feel abt voodoo?? You can install one of Supercurios kernels with voodoo and it will give you CWM recovery and root

Damn...Im still half asleep.....I re-read your post...the update.zip has to stay on your internal sd... I saw you deleted it which is why CWM isn't working. ROM Manager adds to that file when installing CWM Recovery.

You can.. that way you start out fresh and eliminate the chances for errors

Sorry, I'm a noob to the Android scene, How would I restore to Stock 2.2 for Vibrant? Is there a guide or tutorial?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737

When you ran the script to get the recovery to 2e, did you put the phone into shell root first using super one click?
Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400

I am having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THIS GUY. And it's really frustrating, I have been working at getting this ****ing phone updated to some version of 2.2 for about 5 hours now.
Just had to say that.

you on 2.1?

UPDATE:
I flashed 2.1.1.0 clockwork... whichever one was at the bottom of the list. AND I uninstalled Slacker Radio (dont know if that helped it for sure)
But After reinstalling the packages, then booting to recovery with the volume buttons down, I reinstalled package AGAIN and then CLOCKWORK INSTALLED OR WHATEVER! So now I'm flashing a new rom from it! thanks!

I ve had to downgrade ROM manager before also...so you might be ok to move back to 2.5.1.1 after your flash

Also, earlier today I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
So that may be part of his issue.
Clockwork seems to be hanging on installing my ROM right now...
is it normal for the progress bar to not move once it hits "Formatting DATA:..." ?

yea as long as it keeps saying Formatting, Copying, deleting...it will move if it flashes good..

When you did this where you on 2.2 (kA6) or 2.1 (JI6)?
im asking because im on 2.2 but for the life of me i havent been able to get clockwork to run. ive done almost every single step there is out there and have had no luck, but im thinking that my phone is HW locked so that may be my problem.
i can flash any stock rom through odin (JFD) (JI6)
and (KA6) through kies mini
but i cant get into clockwork recovery in any of those rom's.

[Q] Restoring apps / Maintanence Update

Sorry if there is already a thread regarding this. I just dont have much time left at home on the computer.
So here is my issue. My phone keeps prompting me to do a system update, but I have removed some stock sprint apps on my epic with Root Manager. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that they need to be restored before I can update. I used the remove and backup method in Root Manager, assuming it would backed up the original before it removed. Apparently not.
Is there any way to find those apps on the interwebs? Or is all this a waste of time because I don't need them to update?
Thanks

Use the first update here to update to DI18. You need clockwork mod installed, though.
Alternatively, you can download the stock DI07 tarball and manually adb push everything into /system/app.
Thanks
Although when trying to install with recovery i get this error "E:failed to verify whole-file signature"

ROM Manager doesn't always work getting you into clockwork recovery. If you have clockwork recovery mod installed, power off the phone, then hold vol down + camera + power to turn on ... this should get you into it.

Fresh Start

So i had to Odin back to stock because in whatever rom i used i wouldnt get vibration for text messages. This worked fine and i flashed back to eugenes stock jk2 that was prerooted. Now i need to install new roms again and im having trouble. I have rom manager installed and superuser was already there. I got the rom on the sd card (tried with multiple roms), but when i go to flash the roms it fails because it can't verify the signature. Even when i go to fix permissions and reboot my phone like rommanager tells me to it cant flash a new rom. On the other roms i had i would just go to advanced options in recovery and disable verification checks but with the stock recovery i cant do this. So my main question is why isnt this option in cwm recovery and how can i get it there so i can start getting roms again. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this...
Make sure that you have CWM recovery flashed onto your phone using odin. Also make sure that whatever rom you install is on agreement with your software version.

Yea i copied it to the iternal sd, i see it on the internal sd, but the only way to reflash it is to rename it update.zip becauae all i can do is reinstall system packages
You have to download cwmrecovery, plug your phone in while in download mode and put cwmrecovery onto your phone. Just installing rom manager doesn't cut it and trying to flash anything will give the exact errors you're talking about.

its doesent matter at least for me if the rom is right there or in a folder no difference just file called update.zip need to be there (not in the folder )
and no ! u cant flash clockwork recovry thru odin ! loL both of these program u mentioned are intended to flash roms not to be flashed as rom p u can flash in clockwork recovery if the rome is made for it which would be packed with .zip file if its odin file it would be .tar not every rom is flashable thru odin or clockwork depends how devs made it

What rom are you currently running, still on Eugene's JK2? If you Odin'd a stock file, you may have 2e recovery, not the modded 3e. Check this thread, it may help you out with the stock recovery issue. In fact untermensch mentions this kind of issue specifically in the OP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

Help rooting phone. Trouble getting green recovery screen.

So I rooted my friends Vibrant last night. I rooted my Vibrant a few months ago and didn't run into this issue. But I rooted using the same program "Vibrant One Click Root/Unroot" and followed the same steps as I did when I rooted my phone. However, once I installed ROM Manager and installed Clockworkmod Recovery and booted into recovery and clicked reinstall packages, the phone just rebooted. I remember when I rooted my phone when I clicked reinstall packages it did its thing, then went back to the blue recovery screen. Then I clicked reinstall packages again and it took me to the green recovery screen where I was able to then install zip from sd. My friends phone just keeps booting to the blue recovery screen where I can only reboot now, reinstall packages, clear user data, and clear cache. He had to leave so I did not have time to troubleshoot.
Any ideas as to if I missed a step? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the n00bish attitude, if this was my phone, I would put a little more effort into finding the answer. I'm just trying to get this done as soon as possible.

Yeah, I went into ROM Manager and clicked "boot into recovery". Where it brings me to the blue recovery screen. So you think I should unroot then re root? Because everything with the root seemed to work fine. It installed superiser and I had no problems downloading Titanium Backup or ROM Manager and allowing superuser permissions. Which made me think I was just forgetting something...but I might just try that. Thanks!
if your rooting stock 2.2 your gonna need a modded 3e recovery or one of supercurios voodoo kernels with CWM & root already built in. Superoneclick will root stock 2.2. If its 2.1, then you may need to hit reinstall packages a couple of times to get it to take.

All you should need to do is hit reinstall packages again. When you do it the first time it will boot back into the same blue recovery again. Hit it once more then it should boot to the green recovery. If that doesn't work you probably have a bad zip file on the phone. In which case you'd re flash CWM again.
If you're not getting the superuser request when you flash CWM then root didn't take. Make sure root works first.
Did you actually run install cwm from rom manager so the update. zip is there?
Just make sure with Astro or another file manger that you have a .zip file and it should be 1.72 MB in size and you want that on your internal SD card....Then when you boot to recovery it should let you hit reinstall packages with no problem
I'm new here, but I have flashed 3 vibrants since last week. I had the same problem you did.
When I flashed my phone last week it was stock 2.2, so I had to flash the modified 3e recovery which fixed my issue getting into CWM to install my ROM. Today i was flashing a co-worker's vibrant who also was on stock 2.2. However, on his it would keep rebooting when reinstalling packages, even though i did the 3e recovery flash. I ended having to Odin back to 2.1 on his phone before i could flash the new ROM.
I just used AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the feedback!! I don't have the phone with me to check if the update.zip folder was for sure there. But if it is, I'll try reinstalling the packages again. Otherwise I'm just going to unroot and try rerooting with the AIO Toolbox. I'm not going to be able to do this until tomorrow though since our work schedules were pretty much opposite today. But once again, huge thanks to all of you!!! However I've never unrooted before...if I haven't flashed any ROMs, I shouldn't have any problems should I? Just click unroot?

trouble getting to clockwork recovery

Just got a new Vibrant, and I'm having difficulty getting to clockwork recovery. This is my 3rd Vibrant, my previous 2 were rooted also. I've never had any trouble getting to clockwork recovery, but this phone has been a real pita.
In the past I would just hold the power button and select recovery from the options. Or I would go to ROm Manager and select it there. Now with this new phone, neither of those options work. Any other way to get to clockwork recovery?
I think you have to hold both volume buttons and power until the Vibrant logo dissapears, then it should enter to recovery mode...
That's how it works for me.

check the noob guide, I put a second update.zip in there that is CWR... you will need to have a rom on your sd to flash if you want to root/flash though. It does not root your phone like the other update.zip (JFD).

No Clockwork recovery after ODIN back to stock
Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy s t-mobile)
rooted, ran a version of Trigger for awhile. Tried a MIUI rom yesterday. it barely worked for me. Had to ODIN back to stock. (Thanks XDA gang for helping me figure that one out). Anyway, back to stock. Re-rooted but cannot get clockwork recovery to flash. I try using ROM manager but when I go into recovery it is stock samsung recovery.
FYI, I also tried the second update.zip that is suppose to flash CWR option from NOOB GUIDE.. No luck
Help appreciated, I am a noob but I did make it this far w/o asking for help.
thanks in advance.
To do it from stock you have to reinstall packages 2 times in a row then it will go cwr and you can flash from there.

ROMs aren't booting after RSD and re-root...

Hey all,
I RSD'd the other day and then re-rooted and re-unlocked the bootloader (yes, I now know it stays unlocked) and flashed CWM v6.0.1.4 recovery.
Now none of the custom ROMs will boot, though they install correctly in recovery. From CyanogenMod to Carbon to AOSP, it just sits on the boot animation... I've let it sit for up to half an hour.
I'm wiping data and cache, though CWM says E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/pretty-much every subfolder, but that doesn't seem like a big deal...
So what am I doing wrong, here, any ideas? It doesn't matter if I install the ROMs and GAPPS from external SD, right?
I RSD'd to 96.15.66, the one where I can unlock the bootloader, and the only ROM I can get to boot is Clean Rom (basically stock with tweaks of course).

are you mounting system first? never used CWM on this device, but in TWRP, they install just fine. I believe that most devs use TWRP (although, it should not make a difference).
Thanks for the reply, actually I have two cwm recovery images, and after the RSD I flashed the "wrong" one... After flashing the other, I was able to flash and boot just fine.

Hi Im not sure if Im having this exact issue but I have been having problem since I used Utility 1.20 and re-rooted and re-unlocked my phone. Every ROM I have tried has random reboot issue. Can you tell me exactly how you did it correctly?
Also I didnt understand the two recovery image concept. I was having safe strap before and had issue with stock partition and was using slot1 partition as daily rom. And I couldnt flash any other ROM. So I had to go back to stock with Utility 1.2 and start over. Right now Im having liquidsmooth ROM with CWM recovery. Still having those reboots.

what I would suggest doing is going into SS via the app (not via recovery once the phone boots up) and click the uninstall button.
then, return to stock as rik suggested.... then root, then install TWRP, then you'll be able to slap on whatever ROM you like.
