Hi all. I have the Epic and I recently noticed that on my video recordings, often times there will be no audio recorded. Sometimes it will pick up a few seconds after video recording starts, other times it will be off altogether. No bluetooth or headphones plugged in and the audio recording box is checked.
Send the phone to Samsung and they said this:
NO TROUBLE FOUND
SW,PRL,OTSL RESET
Now I'm going to get it back tomorrow and I'm hoping it's fixed, but based on that text, I don't think it is. I called and they said it's fixed but it's just real irritating. I don't want to have to send the phone back to Samsung AGAIN and be without a phone for another week.
Anybody have any similar issues?
When I record video in hd, there are multiple problems. First it fails most of the time after a few seconds, sometimes it works. 2nd, it records volume at a low level: If what I'm recording isn't loud, its hard to hear on the video.

so is that a problem with the phone or that's just how it is?
I've had the same issue where the sound gets delayed maybe 3 seconds into video but once it picks up its great.

i agree, the sound is wonderful, i just don't want to record a video and then realize that the sound never picked up!
Couple questions for you:
What ROM?
What recording resolution?
I'm on di18 stock and default res of 720x480 and in ~10 videos I've had no problem with sound being captured on them.

This has been on the stock rom loaded into the Epic and a 720p resolution. I'm hoping Sammy fixed the issue, get the phone back today. Maybe it could be related to the sd card, but I'm using the one that came from Samsung.

I have been playing around with my HD2 on Phone 7 for the last few days and i am super pleased with the overall performance stability and user comfort it brings. Only drawback i have currently is that the market is not working but i think i farked up somewhere along the line there with the activation and registration.
Only one issue remains and that is the recording of video in 720P. The sound is to loud it seems and there is a big HISS covering all other sound. Now i was wondering what this sound could be seeing i recorded in a silent room (true silent room for hearing testing) and still the hissing was in the background. So while recording i put my HD2 to my ears and behold the hissing sound is the back speaker emitting static. I have no idea how to fix this seeing i am not an DEV.
But seeing the clutter of posts in the general tread i started this one. Can anyone confirm this behavior on their HD2 running Phone 7 ?

The phone itself is emitting the sound while recording. The second you start the recorder it starts to hiss. And yes the hissing is there when you play back the video. And YES it is 720P i recorded video and checked its auto focus is a tad laggy but it works.
I can confirm both, that it's 720p and the noise in the background.
I have a few solutions in mind, I will try them and post back here so soon. As this noise is so frustrating !
I didnt find any unusual hiss noise. Only thing I found was wind noise, and Im cool with that. THe audio is very very clear in my honest opinion.
i didn't find any hiss either
in fact my phone was rather silent when recording!
although i have changed the maxdbatten to 60 and ui vol to 50
my volume setting was at five
and i listened to it back, and the music i "recorded" was very clear
infact you could hear my computer fans!
...
When i playback the video on my computer, there's no hissing sound. On the phone i hear hissing sound when playing any 720p video, so it has to be something with the format itself.
For the ppl who reply there is no hiss or static sound in the background or at all can you try and confirm the back speaker of the HD2 makes no sound either in video recording modus ?
I found video recorded are a bit yellow. look my own video test at http://youtu.be/rDGcYVOOkbY. Weather was foggy not so clear.

I've just given it a try and I certainly don't have any hissing noises during recording or playback.
noise
I am suffering from this static noise too. And yes, it is definitely eminating from the back of the phone. Tried different rom versions, the noise stays the same. I would appreciate if someone would share the solution with me.
Hiss
Here too !!!
Something very strange happened today.
I was home, waiting to go to a show. Video recorder was setup at 640 x 480 to save memory space, I tested recording and everything was OK, recording both video and audio as expected.
Went to the show, did a number of recordings, ranging from 12 to 300+ megabytes.
Came back home, no recording had audio! Plain video, no sound.
Tried again home to record a new video, and again everything was regular, with proper sound.
So, I've lost some amazing music, and can't understand why.
Do you have any hint? What happened to my note 4?
Okay, putting on the Sherlock Homes hat now...
You have a Note 4 on Verizon. Last thing you did before leaving was put on the fancy new case you just bought. Unfortunately the case wasn't designed to accommodate the relocated mic hole for Verizon, and blocked your audio. Elementary, my dear Watson.
Whatever happened, sorry you missed out on the recording.
Nope, my note 4 is naked, no cover, no case, not subsidized
There must be another explanation
Did you connect headphones or a bluetooth device?
I have to get this Sherlock hat serviced, it seems to be defective.
Neither. Only thing unusual, it was in a place without gsm and wifi field. I should try again in same place.
And, concerning your Sherlock hat, it might have issues without a proper pipe and magnifying glass.
Note 4 no audio in recorded video
I had experienced this problem too. I recorded some videos in a show for my son's performance and none of video had sound. I did test recording at home before and after the show and it is recording perfectly okay with sound.
I still don't know what happened.
i found this solution on another post and it worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/sound-recordings-audio-video-t3079593
it worked for me regardless of a difference in carrier
Thanks. It never happened again afterwards.
It is happening to me now... on stock. I have turned off and on BT and started recording... weird...
Hi
I am experiencing crackling audio with pops when playing youtube videos using youtube native app on my note 4 exynos n910c .
I am not sure if it is a software failure or there is something wrong with my phone. I am testing it with costarica 4k video.
Is anybody having sound quality issues with youtube app?
Thank you
Try other videos with smaller resolution to make sure that video itself or network speed is not a problem. Does it sound right when playing mp3 files?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
It is only in some youtube videos not with mp3s. It is not speed or resolution issue it happens with some of them. The sound is similar as you were plugging a hearphone jack but happens randomly.
same issue N910c
I have exact issue ! Found any fixes yet?

Apparently the OTA android lolipop update fiXED it. No more cracking sound on youtube
not with mine
I also get latest lollipop OTA update but it has not been fixed in my phone. It is very annoying I need to use headphones because it is unbearable.
You are right after completely uninstalled it cleaning cache etc the bad sound has dissappeared.
I don't have any issue with youtube yet, do you mind sharing the video and I will test it on my N910C
It is still present. I think it wasn't. I use costarrica 4k video sample in youtube but also when playing Lisa mobiletechreview channel. Try at full audio volume specially noticeable when power cable is connected. It happens randomly not in the same moments.

I just tried full volume, no scratching, but I can hear hissing on all her videos...
Thank you. So it could be an issue with my unit.
I have my Verizon S5 currently sitting on 4.4.4 NK7. I've noticed no matter what video recording app I use, whether it be Snapchat or the native camera app, that audio on video playback always seems a bit distorted if the video was captured in a loud environment. Yet I see friends with other newer android phones and iPhones that have recorded footage the same venues (concerts) where their audio is much more tolerable. Has anyone else experienced this? I've been holding off on updating to lollipop, but if that is a known fix I might go that route.
For example, even recording a video on my car with the audio at a normal volume results in distorted audio quality.
Lollipop won't change anything, cause that's a big problem to not fix immediately. Are you possibly covering a mic when recording? Are phone calls clear? I'm not sure how to fix your problem, I'm just throwing out ideas. A search didn't bring up anything.
Apparently it's a common problem within the Samsung phones:

Was hoping there was a software option to adjust the gain level it records at.

I saw the xda thread but wasn't sure if it was the same. Someone said disable the noise reduction option, and that should fix it.
Anyone experience the audio/video being out of sync WITH THE BUILT IN SPEAKER? I understand that on some bluetooth there could be a slight delay but I am talking about the phone's built in speaker here. I use BT speakers as well but I haven't noticed any delay with bluetooth speakers.
My phone is all stock with the latest update. This happens when I am watching a video form Youtube or facebook. The delay can range from half sec to 3 sec delay. Even if I close the app and re-launch it, the delay will still be there. The only way to fix this is if I reboot the phone. I watch video almost every day on this phone and half of the time I am using just the stock speaker. This would happen once every week or two.
Anyone experienced this?
If you have Viper4Android. Try turning it off. Worked for me.
Same here, in Facebook and YouTube.
Yeah I have the same issue here. If I restart the video, it plays in sync for a couple of seconds after which the video pauses for a second making the audio lead.
