I've only really noticed this over the last few weeks. When loading the gallery after an extended period where the DS has been asleep, the gallery takes ages (lag) to get going and display the photo folders..
I thought it was my Class 2 32Gb sandisk microsd that was causing the issues, so I replaced the Class 2 with a new Lexar Class 10 32Gb card. While the new card certainly improved the read speed opening photos, the lag still persists.
Another consideration was that the lag started while I had the 318 Speedmod kernel installed. So I decided to bring the phone back to stock 318. Did a complete wipe and started from scratch, but still the lag is there.
Is anyone having the same issue on stock 318?

Now when you say complete wipe... are you saying "factory reset" from the OS menu under A. privacy or B. boot menu option 1? Or did you flash streakmod and/or clockwork recovery, wipe your delvik cache, then use QDL tool to reflash back to original?>
The latter will kill everything.... Try this --> http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
I am experiencing no lag... Please take a screen shot of your about phone screen so I can see your set up....

Running CM7 last "stable" from SD card & it has been working fine. Using Zeam launcher.
After a few days of not using it & it being charged, when I start it, I first get notices "Problem loading widget" at all 4 locations on screen. Then I start seeing FCs for a bunch of apps that I haven't launched. Gmail, YouTube, FBReader etc. Also, almost every app I launch gets FC. Market works though??
I next updated to the latest Nightly 87 & it is the same. Over a period of time I see FCs for many apps that I haven't launched. What should I reload to get back to a functional device, 'cause right now it's not uneable??
Thanks,
kev
Update: It appears that un & reinstalling all offending apps has solved the problem. Not sure if I have any other issues that are linked to whatever happened, but I will give it a workout.
I like the graphic when it goes to sleep! Or is that not intentional & a bug? Talking about the video collapsing into a vertical line before going dark. Very retro.
I'm still using 7.0.3 (stable) but have encountered the same thing. I keep on adding widgets every now and then because of the issue. I also have more FCs now than usual. It was running fine for more than a week or so. I just want it to be stable...
Another day into it, and it's getting worse. I have to reboot every time I try to do something because of FC for mostly all the apps I try to run. I try to run, say Aldiko, it will crash. So I reboot then it's ok. I'll try to run another app, it will also crash so the cycle goes on and on. I'd hate to re-flash and do everything again but it doesn't seem to give me any choice.
I have the same issue, I started turning off features and its running better now.
Im running on a transend 16gb HC class 10 (nook/encore) if that makes any difference. I to just want it to work....

It more than likeyly is your issue... test on a cheap sandisk class 2, 4 or 6 card and see the difference.
The issue is that higher class cards have high sustained thru put... but are much slower in small reads/writes... and that is what our devices are doing. lower class cards tend to have very high small read/write speeds... but do not have high sustained large read/writes.
Hope this makes sense.
Bottom line... hard to beat cheap and readily available sandisk uSD's for our devices.
Yup, and they need to be sandisk branded in particular.
I have cheap class 2 drives that are nonbranded oem stuff and they cause fc's also.
So my suggestion is sandisk branded.
My NC locks up/ freezes semi often. Usually like 2-3 times an hour. Restarting always fixes it but its crazy frustrating. It did it on phiremod and on cm7. Right now I'm on Cm7 nightly 108 and dagrins oc newest. It freezes are random times and while using any number of apps. I can not find a common thread. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also imrunning from internal memory and I have an 8gb storage card.
The most common reason for having FCs in the NC is due to the SD card. Generally, the newer/fast (class 10) type cards create issues for us. It has to do with the speed of small read/writes. The "safe" zone is to get a class 4 or class 6 card (I run with a 8GB class 6, also a 4GB class 4 - and both haven't given me any issues).
the other issue might be over-clocking. If you're kicking up the CPU speed beyond the 800 MHz, you will start making the system more unstable. If you had an iffy card to begin with, the problem will now seem more aggressive.
You could try reducing your max CPU (settings / cyanogenmod settings / performance / cpu), or replace the SD card with something that falls within the NCs stable range (class 4 is a good point to start with).
I've also found that the NC can have a poorly seated SD card and it cause all kinds of FCs or lockups.
When I do a backup of my SD card with Win32 imager, and then put the SD card back in - there've been 2-3 times where, on bootup, the whole environment just flakes the hell right out. Powering off, and reseating the SD card fixes it right up. So, my guess is my NC has a crappy SD card reader in it, or the seating of the SD cards is fairly sensitive.
You could always try that, too.
Ya. I havent been getting force closes really. Just the lock ups. I'll try a lower setting for the CPU see if that helps. The card that's in this is a like 3 year old 8gb one. I assumed it would be a lower class card. How can one discover what class the card is?

Sometimes on the card, and always on the packaging, is a small C with a number in it. That's the class of it. If it's a few years old, it's probably a class 4, which should be fine.
You're probably running into hiccups with overclocking, would be my next best guess.
Ahh, There it is. Class 4, Yah even after removing the overclocking it still freezes. Hmm.
It may help to get rid of any unused apps. I've had apps from some of my downloading sprees that have caused problems even when not using them. Clearing those first is a good step to finding the one causing the problem. This is just based off my experience.

He makes a good point - something in the background may be causing you issues. I'm constantly cleaning house on mine - I'll download a neat app, then hate how much more my battery drains.
Is the card (that you are using) a SanDisk card?
Other brands (Lexor, Transcend, Samsung, Kodak, Toshiba, etc.) are ok for camera, but are not recommended for NC.
I think I finally got it. I did the new nightly CM7 and cleared data, devorac and such. So a full on clean install. And the card is a Kingston. But all probs are fixed looks like now
If I may add my $0.02... I've heard a lot of people say that class 10 cards cause instability and you should use class 4. My experience is the opposite. I started out using a class 4 and although I was excited about having CM7 running on my NC, it was painfully slow. Starting apps took forever. Some weren't even usable because they took so long to load, and even after they were loaded they were still extremely slow. I got FC's all the time. I decided to buy a class 10 card off Amazon (I don't even remember the brand) and it was seriously like night and day. Everything runs so much smoother and faster. Some apps are still kind of slow, like Yahoo Mail, and Facebook, but for the most part the experience has been very positive for me.
Hello Ya'all,
First and foremost, I would like to thank the forum and its members for the great supply of information and technology.
Device: HD2 is currently running YukiXDA's Windows Phone 7 ROM
Storage Device: Sandisk 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC
Issue: I flashed my phone with Windows 7 after formatting the SD card with SD-Card formater for optimal results. The installation went perfect, the SD card was recognized, etc. and everything was working perfectly. I added pictures and music to it, no problems; however, when I put an additional album onto the HD2, the phone started freezing and rebooting quite frequently, with the occasional Storage card error; thus, I assumed (and read) that adding a little more music would patch up the problem. I tried it and to my surprise, the rebooting decreased, but the problem still persists. I know some of ya'all are probably wondering: "Go buy a new SD card," However, this is one of the cards that is known for being compatible quite frequently; thus, I can't be too sure whether I'm just wasting money or not. Any help would be appreciated.
This might sound hilarious; however, after updating to blackseven mango, my phone has not rebooted for the past 6 hours (It is infamous for rebooting every hour or so). I am going to test this out one more night and see what the problem is. I'm sure it is not related to the roms; however, it would restart with every NoDo Rom, but for some reason, it hasn't with this one.
sd card
Its most likely your SD card I personally have never had any problems with restarting and I have the Samsung SD card that came with my us hd2

the adding of music is the key, ive found that my card has portions that are fine, in fact its super quick and stable, but if i go and install something it will start resetting, if its the same issue as mine then keep dumping 50MB of junk on it until it becomes stable, i honestly do not know why this works unless WP7 is so sensitive to IOPS that even the slightest hicup will make it reset

Hi
I have had problems with alot of reboots, up till 5 per hour and some times when booting it just get stuck on a white og green screen so that i have to pull the battery. But that was untill i found this yesterday, i filled my phone up(from over 10 gb free to only 2gb free) and now it is running sooooo smooth not a reboot yet
So people with random reboots might noth have to by a new sd card. ???
Wish i found this before i ordered a 16 GB class 10 hehehe
Just a quick report back on this, after filling my sd card up with music i only had ONE reboot last night in stead of rebooting many times per day else it has been running all smoth.
So i must say this is a great result by just adding music to the phone
HTC HD2 with cm7 hyperdroid
Hi my phone randomly reboots a lot ive rooted it and flashed cm7 hyper droid- v10.4 "estatic eagle" android version 2.3.3 build #GRI40 a long time ago but now recently it just started randomly rebooting. i believe it started when i tried to update the rom from rom manager to a newer cm7 hyperdroid but for some odd reason my phone also doesnt reboot into recovery mode to put a new rom on it. please help. its getting irratating. thank you
Hey Guys,
I just got this phone and instantly updated to 6.0, then performed a factory reset and cleared the cache. I was testing things out and it looks like all videos, whether played through Youtube or the built in Video App, stutter for me a half second every 10 seconds or so.
*Update. Turns out formatting my SDCard as internal storage contributed to this, as the phone tells me the card is slow even though it's a brand new Class 10 UHS card. I formatted it as portable storage and the lag is gone on the phone. Now it just lags when on Screen Mirroring, right next to my 2 year old Note 3 which doesn't lag at all using the same features.
Any thoughts? Thanks,
Nila
Hi, I've have my VS995 for a while and it's been running perfectly. I'm currently rooted, running Alpha Rom (1BA revision) and the mk2000 BTTF Beta 1 kernel. In the last month or so I've noticed anything that has to hit storage -- either internal OR SD-- is starting to get really slow to get started. For example, if I am opening the camera, it takes a while (5-10 seconds) to open because it's reading the gallery.. if I am reading through Twitter and saving some pictures, sometimes it takes so long to save it crashes my Twitter client! But then once I get a successful save, everything is fine for a while -- but if I stop using it, it goes back to sleep. I.e., once storage is being accessed, it seems fine for a while-- if I start skimming through the gallery, open the camera back to back, save a group of files-- everything is fine. But if I let it sit for a minute or so, I'm back to super slow access times. It's almost like waiting for a spinning disk hard drive to spin back up after being asleep. Because of that I'm thinking it's not likely to be a hardware fault, just a setting or something is messed up.
Can someone point me to where to even start troubleshooting this? Since it happens on internal storage too I don't think it's anything with my SD card. Is this likely something in the kernel or the ROM itself? Could it be like a setting in the kernel? I've tried all of the different IO Schedulers with very little difference...
Thanks!
SD-Card going bad?
If it is a SanDisk, that would be my bet. I have had so many problems with SanDisk Media on many different devices and computers I gave up on SanDisk...
Yeah, I've had tons of trouble with Sandisk (and avoid them entirely, they're the only brand that's ever flat out died on me-- and multiple times!) but this seems to be impacting ANY storage access, not just the SD card... I guess I could try it with the card out entirely just to see what happens... (it's a Samsung 128gb EVO-- I almost always go with their Pro cards for phones but I bought this when Pro disappeared for a few months)
