[Q] Have you seen this in your DVP? - Venue Pro General

I was playing with the way i plug the DVP to my computer. Only difference this time i was using a external powered USB hub which is then connected to PC. While doing so, the DVP re-booted and came to this screen. Has any one come across this?
View attachment 498186

I have seen that once after plugging into the supplied ac adapter when my battery was almost dead. I think it happens when the phone thinks the battery is dead.

nvr seen it. what di dyou do?

Its so weired I was unplugging and plugging back in a few times to see if it does again - it did actually. Then i was confusing this symbol with USB composite mode and started researching online. Then all of a sudden, zune opened up and all back to normal again.

I believe this only happens when there is a dead battery. It turns the phone on because it has to be powered on to charge properly but there is not enough power in the battery to run the os. It then allows a short charge cycle, then restarts and loads everything. That has been my experience with seeing that symbol. If you plug in the phone with a dead battery and try to turn the phone on, it will load this symbol until it charges for a few minutes, then it will allow you to turn it on.

I believe that symbol means its charging, and it doesn't yet have enough power to fully turn on. USB provides less power than a wall outlet, so it can't fully run off of a USB power source.

Thanks for the replies folks. For a moment, i thought we are onto something
But at-least this made me research and dig for any clues on my pc.
I was looking at the event log and error logs and came across a reference to VHD (Virtual Hard Drive). But, i am not sure if phone is set as a VHD and accessed by zune or its the emulator doing it. If you have WP7 development tools installed, do a search on your pc for '.vhd', you will come across one called '....NandFlash.vhd'. This will show up if you happen to have developed some app and done a run via the Visual Studio WP7 emulator. I did try to mount that VHD and it isn't allowing me.
When i looked at that file in Textpad/notepad/wordpad, it has many a info (registry and user info, etc). But, with my limited knowledge can't figure much.

Yea, you get that screen when you're phone is dead and trying to recharge. Also if you don't turn on the phone while charging, you can slide your DVP up. This will allow you to see the keyboard flashing to let you know it's charging. I don't know if anyone else found that but that's what it did for my DVP.

8125 Dead

I have a 8125 and I was able to unlock it fine. After unlocking it I upgraded to the underground crossbow edition rom - which the 8125 rebooted and was running. I tried out a couple things and everything seemed to be running/working fine. It was getting late so I put it down and went to bed. This morning when I got up the phone was off so I went to turn it on and nothing happened. I figured it just ran out of battery power plugged in the charger and guess what no red light on. I have tried everything under the sun but I cant get it to charge or startup. Anyone have any ideas? It was working fine.
i know u said u've tried everything and i don't mean to sound like i'm takin the buscuit, but leave it on charge for n hour, then try bootloader. taking the battery out completely for a while could work.
i had so many problems with crossbow! think this was one of them.
Unplugged
Well so far I left the charger plugged into the phone with the battery in it for over an hour now - with no luck. The red charging light doesn't even come on. Did you have that problem? I also left the battery out and plugged in - still nothing. Tried taking the battery out and then putting it back in while plugged in - no go.
I have not tried the "bootloader" - but the phone will not turn on at all or respond in anyway. Its in a powered down state (or so it seems) - I dont think bootloader will work?? But I dont know anything about bootloader - is it on the ftp site and how do I use it?
Any chance the battery could have been completely discharged?..just a thought. I think i read that completely flat batteries wont charge up via usb. Disregard if thats a silly suggestion, just thought id offer my two cents.
try getting a new battery and see if it boots up...it can be your battery.and you are trying to charge with an AC adapter right?
Wall Charger
I am charing it via the wall charger (not usb) and I am going to try to get another battery. Just weird that I never had a battery problem until I install the wm6??!! Unless the damn thing drained my battery dry and somehow damaged the battery. I called Cingular and they are sending me another unit as its still in warranty. So we'll see when I get it - I will try the new battery. Strange. Very Strange - because everything was working last night.
Strange
Well after leaving the battery out all afternoon I took a go at the phone again, put in the battery then turned it on. It actually started booting up - showing the WM6 bootscreen. After about a minute it shut down like it was out of power. Strange. I know the phone is not bricked because if it was it wouldn't have just done what it did. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix it?
Could be a bad battery. You need to test out with some one else battery

New Battery
Well I finally got the new battery I ordered today. When I put it into my phone it will boot into wm6 fine but will not sync with activesync 4.0 or charge via USB or plugged into the wall. I uninstalled activesync, rebooted my computer and installed Activesync 4.5 - but still no luck with the phone via usb syncing with my pc. Also when the phone in plugged into the wall via the wall charger it does not charge. I am beginning to think the port on the bottom somehow was disabled from the rom update, although I dont see any posts with people having that problem. I guess my next option is trying to reflash it to stock rom via a sd card since it wont connect via USB - however I can not find the information step by step how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Try going to the bootloader screen: Turn off your phone and then hold the camera button while you turn it on. When you are at the Rainbow screen (thats the bootloader) plug in your USB cord. You should see in the bottom left (above the left soft key) where it says USB. If it doesn't then I'd say your USB port is broken (I'm not aware of any ROM being able to disable that).
As for flashing from the SD card, I believe thats documented in the Wiki...

Jasjar shuts down, doesnt power up without external power

I have an Imate Jasjar (1.12.38 WWE)
It is giving a rather weird problem. When the power is less than about 40%, the device shuts down (slowly fading screen) if any intensive program is run or multiple apps are opened. After this when I try to boot the device, it shows me the blue Imate spalsh screen and slowly fades off and shuts down.
However the moment I plug it into the usb port of my computer or the external charger, it boots up and works perfectly fine even if I remove the power, till it shuts down again that is.
Another way to simplify my statement could be that the device is showing the power status higher than it actually is. Which explains the booting up with external power.
Any suggestions as to how I can rectify this. This is really troublesome as the phone often shuts down while Im out and I cant really do anything except keep the device charged to the brim at all times to keep it functioning.
Another issue I have is that the device when connected to Windows XP via activesync gives an error "USB device not recognized"
I have tried using different computers and USB cables, but the problem is persistent. But if I keep it connected for long, it sometimes gets connected and syncs. The device has no problem getting charged due to the faulty USB connection though.
Any suggestions on this front?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you need to buy a NEW BATTERY.
OK, Thanks.
Any idea about the USB error?
I have very similar behaviour from my Uni (technically an SPV M5000 from Orange Switzerland), but somehow, I doubt it's the battery which is at fault.
I also see the powering down, with fading screen, and then refusing to come back up again (display fades out again on splash screen), but I've observed it with various levels of charged battery. It has happened at 85%( according to both the standard battery meter, and ilauncher meter) as well as at 30% and various levels in between.
If I plug in it, I can boot the device, and after that, the battery runs down normally. I doubt this would work if the problem really were the battery.
I've noticed that the problem arises most often when I'm accessing the internet, either by 3G or wlan. So far, it has never happened when I wasn't actively using the device (meaning I've never taken it out of my pocket and found it in this annoying state).
Any ideas?
Btw, I'm currently using Laurentius WM6 V7 ROM, but I observed the same behaviour with Ivans WM5 (I forget which version) before.
For the USB problem you could try connecting it and opening the device manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager) and deleting the "Unknown Device" that pops up when this happens. Remove the cable, reboot.
This fixed it for me, but I had to do it again a few weeks later.
Oh, and a new battery is the other problem. I got one last week for about £5 from Ebay.
By the way, my Exec seem not to realize when will my batt full. I see 100%, and I wait for more than 1 hour later, but the LED doenst change green, it remains amber. What the heck with my fone?? My batt or my fone fault??

Did I brick my Ipaq 614c?

Today in evening my cell phone switched off after the battery died.
I put in the USB charger and once it started to charge I instantly at that moment switched it on, it showed the blue startup screen and vibrated and shut off again (I presume it was not charged enough at that moment to be switched on), I again instantly switched it on as it was charging, it showed the blue screen again, gave a long vibrate and shut off. Since than I have not been able to switch it on at all. It dosent even vibrate or show the blue startup screen at all.
The red led on top is on as it is in charging mode, but it has been like that for past 6 hours, after few hours the red led turns off automatically so I had to unplug and plug it again to turn the charging on again.
I have been pressing the power on button but nothing happens, I even tried doing the hard reset but nothing happens. Except the red charging light it has been dead for past 6-8 hours even after I have been charging it for that long.
What should I do?
And the bad thing is I live in US and got this phone from UK, so I dont think I have any warranty as www.expansys.com mentioned it earlier that this is UK based phone and their is no warranty in US.
I'm not sure you can just brick the hp by charging it. Try the following:
1. Remove the battery and plug in the charger. The ipaq works without battery only on external power. If yours doesnt, then the battery isn;t causing the problem.
2. Remove all sim and micro sd cards if you have put any. Leave the ipaq only as it is out of the box.
3. If it doesnt turn on either way, you have to try to restore the rom.
How to do that? Easy.
a) turn the device off. put in the battery and plug in the charger. Then press the record buton (on the right, just under tha jog wheel or whatever it's called)
and while holding it, pres the power on. It should turn on and over the blue screen ypu see "clean boot" Just leave it, take a deep breath and wait. DO NOT TOUCH IT until it boots windows and asks you to tap the screen. IF nothing happens you have anther option - go to the HP site and find the rom update - it's 53mb and it's a little tricky to find. Then turn the device off and run the rom update utility from PC. If this doesn't work, then i sugest you contact HP support online chat and ask for help (Not likely to get any).

Just do some research. Google it. Go to the hp site and try to find someone with the same problem.Don't just sit there. You have INTERNATIONAL WARANTY. In the worst scenario you can send the davice to HP in the UK and get replacement unit. If you haven't dropped, spilled on with water or charged with higher voltage(which i think you can't do in the US, as you have 110v circuits.) you can call HP support in your country, bring it there and just ask for replacement.
Don't try to flash it with roms provided on the site - it's not for first time users. Read, research and ask, before destroying your device.

When I tried step 1, all LED lights just started blinking, I tried powering it on but nothing happened.
Tried restoring ROM by pressing the buttons you mentioned but nothing happened. No power no clean boot, just switched off.
I downloaded the Rom from HP website and strange thing is to download it I selected the option on HP Website 'Detect my device' and they did detected my Ipaq 614C, but after running the file it goes to the screen 'Please wait shile the device state is verified' and than it fails to recognise my device!
Even when I know everything is firmly attached.
What is the PC you're using. Can you try to plug the usb cable in another slot.Did your ipaq work at the beginning.
Do you have Active Sync 4.5 installed? XP or Vista. XP is recommended. Is the update 53Mb (not the 1 mb one). When having hardware problems, the trick is to alter the variables - use different connectors, cables etc, different settings and so on. This ipaq is cheap for a reason - there are lots of faulty units, but that's why waranty is for - if you have a document for the purchase, you have international waranty. That's it. Before going to HP service center, try all possible options mentioned here again on a different PC with all the software needed - Active Sync 4.5 and usb drivers that may be included in the CD that comes with the ipaq. If the HP website recognises the devie it's almost sure you don't have a brick, as it probably verifies the EBOOT - the most vital part of your device's memory. Try upgrading a few times no matter the error. Restart the pc and so on. My advice - ask for online support or just call HP support. Be insistive but polite. If they say "go to the service center or something like that" just continue asking. Write down your case ID. Use online chat help on the HP site, even though your device is not listed, choose IPAQ 500 or 214 and just enter the SN and PN (on the back, under the battery) and Tell them your device model.

Probably WAY too late but I've just acquired a sickly 614C which I've nursed to health.....
There seems to be some bizarre issue with the charger in the 614c so that if the battery level falls too low, it requires a mains-connected USB charger rather than just the USB port on a pc/laptop.
If your 614c is the same as mine, the red LED will be pulsing very slightly when connected to the USB port but a solid red when connected to a mains USB charger.
Once the LED turns amber, it can then be connected to the USB port for further charging. It looks like it just needs an extra boost when the battery is completely flat.
HTH!
hi
i had the same problem when i left my phone uncharged for over a week. after reading about the same issues some of us encountered i came up with a simple idea that worked. i just connected the charger to the phone and long pressed the reset button (over a minute) till the red blink dissapeared and slowly the amber one took its place then i left it to charge.

my touch 3g mini usb problems can someone help?

well here it goes...my my touch has had this problem for about a week now
if i plug in the usb cable into my phone it will charge but it will act as if it is not connected to a computer and it wont give me the choice to mount my sdcard
also when this first occurred i tryed plugging in my headphone adapter and it did not work at all! but then yesterday it started to work if i plugged in my head phone adapter twice in a row then BOOM it works.....but my usb cable still doesn't work ive even went into amon ra recovery and toggled the usb and still it will not mount the sd card....can someone tell me whats wrong here? thank you in advance
also if i wasn't clear enough please feel free to ask questions because i am stuck on a 1.6 stock ROM and i miss hero thankyouagain
Mine has the same problem, I'm waiting for the replacement to get here.
do you know the last thing you did before it stopped working?
Similar Problems -- Am I screwed?
I have a similar problem. I don't know exactly what happened before the problem started (I'll detail my best guesses in a sec.)
Here's what's happening:
* There's no USB connectivity -- not on Mac OS X (10.6) nor on Windows XP. I don't ever get the USB icon nor the chance to mount the phone as a drive.
* It drains the battery realllllllly fast -- my 1500mAH batter went from 100% to 15% in 20 minutes. With the screen off. Bluetooth and WiFi were both off.
* It charges VERYYYY slowly. 2+ hours on the DC charger in the car did not get me a full charge. The LED thatused to indicate charging does not light up anymore when plugged in.
* It is very hot to the touch. At one point Battery Life Widget was showing a temp of 108F.
* Re-installing CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 does not fix the problem, nor does rolling back to 4.2.8.1
* I've tried several wipes and that did not work either.
The last things I can think that I did before the problem occured:
* I accidently plugged in the mini-usb cord that goes to an AC adapter on a CallPod instead of into the callpod adapter (i.e., it was plugged into the cord that goes to the wall.) This was for about 5 seconds before I realized the mistake.
* I had installed CyanogenMod 4.2.9.1 the day before.
* I had installed and deleted a number of sill games and apps: Fat Cheese, Dialify, and a few others I can't recall.
Without an ability to get a USB connection, I can't use Terminal to try save files to the SD. That means I can't (as far as I know) unroot it right now. But, I'd sure like to try...
Does anybody have any helpful ideas or insights?
Thanks in advance,
jim
If your computer has a Bluetooth dongle, you can transfer files back and fourth to your phone, or just get a cheap card reader off ebay or Amazon.

Is a dongle required? I should be able to piggyback on to the Mac's built in Bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard, I think.
Any ideas what I might have done?
Thanks,
Jim
Yea if it has built in BT that should work, as long as you got somekind of pairing and file transfer program on your mac. The are a couple of free Bluetooth apps in the market you can use for swapping.
Well my usb went out when it was connected to my pc and the motherboard blew. The phone immediatly went black when it happened. I thought at first I fried the phone too. It still charges but any computer won't see a connection and the phone won't ask to mount. Its a hardware issue I guess, I tried several ways to get access to the phone via usb and failed.
so what should i do? send it to t mobile?...or call htc?......its unlocked and im using it on att.....i installed dwangs 1.6 and it stoped working
I successfully unrooted then applied the upgrade to 1.6. She's still hot, quick to discharge, slow to charge, and can't see the data connection via USB...she's going back to the retailer.
Now, I just hope that the Nexus One is real and out real soon.
Jim
@jkearns you could have a faulty battery.
@glendawg I don't know at this point since the phone is second hand. I doubt T-mo will do anything. Try htc see if the could offer a repair solution.
well now my acceleromiter took a ****.....
I just took one too, I feel alot better now.
Mytouch 3g
I have the same problem with my touch gets hot, but also when I remove the battery and plug the charger still get hot so I think is a hardware issue.
And I know for fact that some USB cords only charge your phone and no work with the computer, if you want to sync something, try an other USB cable
im having the same usb problem with my 32b but it comes and goes sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt so my question is should i take it in and have them give me the 32a version since tmobile doesnt carry the 32b anymore? is it that much better and is it easy to root like the 32b? sorry i dont mean to steal this thread but i just thought it would be pointless to open a new one about the same topic.
So I just got done with tmobile and there gonna send me a new mytouch 1.2 so im pretty exited I just have to run stock 1.6 for a couple days while it gets here and I forgot how much worse stock is

Hi All,
I've exactly same issue as "jkearns" outlines. It used to connect via USB and showed charging (very hot during charging though) but not anymore. I think I accidently got updated to 2.2.3 and that probably contributed the problem. I could perhaps stay on 2.2.3 but battery drains like hell (about 20 min life). Any idea to resolve this? Thanks in advance fellows.

[Q] Unusual death

Hiya,
So my colleague gave me an USB stick for me to copy some photos on to, and it seemed to of killed my N7.
Here's how it all went down:
I have an Intel MBP and when I plugged the USB drive in, it didn't recognise it (it didn't even show up in the Disk Utilities). And yes, it was directly connected to my laptop, no USB hubs involved.
I tried even the other USB port, and even with a USB hub, no difference.
I've installed a program to write onto NTFS formatted drives, and OS X natively can read just about all the Windows file formats (in my experience any way). And so, just for the giggles, I popped the drive into my updated and rooted N7 via a Motorola USB OTG cable (which has worked for a long time and no flaws) and then my N7 could read it. No worries.
I copy all of files into a separate folder on the drive, and then pop it back into my MBP. It then detects it. Very strange. I copy over some files, and unplug. Later on in the day, I remember that I forgot some files, so I plug it back in, and my laptop starts going into some crazy lag mode as if it just got Parkinson's. Unplug the drive, and then it freezes (i have to do a force shut down) and when it boots back up, it's seriously FUBAR'd.
I felt the drive belonged in the pits of Mordor with what havoc it was causing.
I didn't plug it back into anything else after that. Told my colleague and he did a virus scan on his Windows work comp: nothing.
Battery dies on the N7 (ie, ran out), and when I go to charge it. Nothing. Okay, something happens. The backlight goes on, but no battery symbol. Just see some sort of light leek (which I had before, but nothing dier.)
It's a 32GB CC0K "generation".
Any clues, tips?
Thanks for any and all help!
TL;DR version:
A) Big long story about MacBook Pro and a wonky USB drive.
B) Separately, "Battery dies on the N7 (ie, ran out)", N7 won't start up.
Not clear from story if (A) has anything at all to do with (B).
Try charging battery for a while? Hold Power button down for 20 seconds afterward? If not, unplug battery connector, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, charge device, try to reboot?
There have been a number of similar sounding stories on here. Some of them seem to self-resolve after charging, some of them are reported to respond to various voodoo operations (e.g. battery disconnect/reconnect), some of them the person making the report never checks in again. I suppose that leaves open the possibility that some devices never turn back on?
It isn't obvious if there is a single syndrome or mutiple problems that exhibit similar symptoms.
good luck.
Thank you for shortening it!
I tend to go a bit overboard with details and what not.
Ok, will try having it in the charger and see what happens.
Thanks!
I also find it strange that a USB drive could be so destructive. However, if you do have a wonky USB drive, what chance of is there for its faultiness doing harm like I just described?
Don't forget to make sure the internal battery lead isn't disconnected!!! It happens..
Ok, plugged it, it sat in for a while, held the power button for a few seconds longer (along with the bottom volume rocker) and it turned on!
So, thanks for the help!
Must be the 100th time I've read about grouper's funny little "death" because of drained battery. Hasn't happened to me but if it ever does I'm prepared and properly informed lol
