hi, im not able to connect to the net with my wizard.
i dont have a wireless router so am connecting directly to my laptop, the ad hoc connection i have made works fine for file tranfers, but not for activesync or connecting to the web in either PIE or minimo.
i know activesync isnt possible but surely i should be able to use the broaband from my laptop?
any pointers would be greatly appreciated. software? settings?
its a t-mobile uk vario with qtek test rom.
also anyone know of a remote control utility, i use logmein but would like something a little more menu/macro based for control of media.
cheers
kevo
Try turning on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on your laptop; that'll make your laptop act a bit more like a router, providing NAT services to the Wizard.
yeah i've tried that, and i've just tried bridging connections (dont really know much about that) but that hasnt worked either.

My configuration
Me too, I use ADHOC connection for my WLAN.
PC configuration:
ADSL connection shared
Adress IP:192.168.1.1 Mask:255.255.255.0
PocketPC configuration:
Adress IP:192.168.1.55 Mask:255.255.255.0 Gateway:192.168.1.1
DNS:80.10.246.2 for Wanadoo
Your problem is certainly the DNS.
You can put 192.168.1.1 too.
so it is possible? cool!.......but im still having problems.
i cant figure out how to enter these settings, not to sure where to put them,
iv tried puttin the DNS in the -> connections -> vpn
and -> network cards -> networks adapters -> SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter
sorry to be a pain, but could you point me to where to get each address and where to put them?
also is there anything particular you did to set up the adhoc network? i just used the Windows XP wizard and then ticket the AdHoc option after.
my laptop is conected to the router and the router is connected to aol adsl.
the ip address of my laptop is showing as a simple 10.0.0. number on the LAN but "Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.235.147" for the WLAN
none of my setup has a static ip address, could this be causing the problems?
thanks
kevo
It's more hazardous without static adress but it's can work.
My PC has directly access to the Internet with a ADSL modem.
It's here (network cards -> networks adapters -> SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter )
Apparently, it's ok for your PC and the Ad-Hoc mode.
Maybe, you should have your adress IP WLAN on the same network adress of your router.
I GOT IT WORKING!!!
I started again from scratch.
set a new WLAN. added new setup to the vario, added the DNS etc to the vario.
the problem i was having was the way i was sharing the internet connection, i was trying to shared the internet from the wireless to the lan rather than the internet from the lan to the wireless (if that makes sense to anyone!!!). i also ticked all the connection sharing services to allow them, just need to go through them and see which i dont need now.
thanks for the help guys

(its showing my transfer rate as 11Mbps, although i think iv done the G tweak and my laptop says its got a G card. what speeds should i be getting?)
Hi dear developers;
i don't have wirelless modem but i have laptop which has wirelless property i want to share my local internet with my pocket pc. i read some resource but i couldn't achieve it. I do this things... let me know what is wrong?
Create a private network(pcToPc) from wireless networks
i shared it and then i connect it from laptop and i got ip which start with 169... fake ip. so i give manuel ip. i set the default gateway to modem ip. then i can connect to net on laptop but i am not sure the wirelless of the laptop which i shared has internet but i can surf anyway
the pocket pc seems the my laptop's private network i am trying to connect it but it gave me the same fake ip so i give to pocket pc SDIO wirelles adapter manuel ip that's default gateway is same with my laptop (the adsl modem's ip)... so i can get connected but i couldn't use internet. when i am trying to test the intert for example www.google.com after writes locating on status bar then an error "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." even thoug i set myISP in network Management -- The Internet.
does anybody understand this connection type? If you share with us we will be very glad. Thank you so much ...
Hi,
I have a mac mini sharing its internet connection on Ethernet to almost all the wireless devices.
I enable "Internet sharing" on the mac to send out a wireless signal. Basically all the devices with a wifi card could connect to the mac and get internet access. I had a ipod touch, it can access to internet through the mac. I had a white English G1, it also works.
But now, a German HTC dream (DREA110 PVT 32B) can connect to the shared network, it gets IP, no problem, but it can not access to internet, web browsing does not work, PING doesn't work. Interestingly, this German G1 can access to internet through the AP in the library and at my home.
What is the problem with this G1, do you guys have any idea? Thanks in advance.
No idea?
Does anyone else have this problem?
Dealing with this now. We're at a hotel and are sharing the hotspot access we are buying. I'm on a MacBook Pro and can share the signal off of my Brother's macbook via bluetooth. But my cousin can't get on the internet from his G1 through the host mac. They are paired. Any thoughts
WildPuzzleROM_2.2 Froyo v8.0.11 on HTC Wildfire (NextG)
Installed HTC Sync to get drivers and then turned on USB Tethering.
Windows detects and installs HTC Remote NDIS NIC- no problems.
DHCP assigns IP, MASK, GW and DNS server (DNS server = GW IP)
But.. I cannot do Name resolution (nslookup) and cannot ping IP address of known servers (google). So PC shows as connected to the phone, but no Internet access.
However, Browser on the phone is working fine. Perhaps my carrier Tel$tra blocks Tethering? Questions: 1. can someone confirm if Telstra allows tethering on HTC. 2. Does tethering even work on stock HTC Wildfire (2.1)?
Tried this in WinXP 32bit, and Win 7 Pro 64bit- same issue.
Any ideas?
i've got the same issue while tried wifi tethering.
I didn't found a soluce so i could advise u to try "Pdanet" for free (usb tethering only)
have a look here in google (can't post link due to restriction of my account...)
u need to install pdanet on ur pc, and install the apk on ur device.
It runs really well
i can confirm that it is available with wildpuzzle on telstra
have you turned on usb debugging? menu, settings, applications, development, usb debugging.
all i have to do is mount with usb tethering and look in my lan settings, also you can use the wifi hotspot (tested fine).
The strangest thing I have even experienced, and perhaps can save you time and headache.
** Summary (for those not wanting to read the whole story, but just the fix)
If your HD2 Android can connect to your home WiFi but cannot access Internet, check if your WiFi network uses a 192.168.20.x IP subnet address. The HD2 Android's USB port uses the same subnet, causing a conflict. If you change your home WiFi to use any other subnet, it will work fine.
** The Long Story
Been reading and admiring all the Android developments in XDA-Developers for some time, finally decided it was time to give it a try. Picked one of the more popular and stable MDJ Froyo (Desire HD) for SD and loved it.
Problem is couldn't use the Internet via WiFi from my home. Internet via GPRS works fine, Internet via USB/PC works fine, just not WiFi. The connection to WiFi is successful, picks up a DHCP IP address just fine, but no Internet.
Oh well, perhaps there is a WiFi bug in HD2 Android not reported so never mind.
Wait! On a business trip, when HD2 Android connecting to the hotel's WiFi, Internet works fine! Subsequently in many other places WiFi works also flawlessly.
Must be the WiFi router at home. Not too surprising as I don't use much wireless but wired all my other computers (including notebook PCs), it is faster anyways.
So went back and tested WiFi on a notebook PC (prior to that upgraded the WiFi router's firmware), PC connects and works, but HD2 Android still not. Tried all kinds of WiFi and encryption combination (BGN, BG, G only, WPA2, WPA, WEP), just nothing works for HD2 Android. >> Conclusion: not the WiFi router at home, just HD2 Android working with this particular WiFi router.
Finally (but forgot what app it was), I saw the USB port binding to 192.168.20.x subnet, exactly the same as my LAN subnet in the WiFi router.
Bingo, changed the LAN subnet to something else (really anything is fine because it is inside a NAT so not an issue getting out to the Internet) and HD2 Android works like a charm.
Hope this helps.
sorry, can you explain more where to change in the router settings? i can't find anything to change in my wireless settings
Look up the LAN (local area network setting) in your router, where the IP address for most WiFi router is set to use 192.168.0.1
In my case the WiFi router is set to use 192.168.20.1 (and DHCP to pass out 192.168.20.x IP addresses).
By changing the IP address of the router, most router automatically change the DHCP assignment to corresponding subnet, say from 192.168.20.1 to 192.168.x.1
x can be any of 0 to 255, just not 20 for my case or it causes conflict with HD2 Android.
Hi Dear friend , And Thanks for sharing experiences.
I have the same problem , but my router's setting is :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
and my Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100
IP Pool Count : 101
DHCP : Enabled
NAT : Enabled
Default Route : YES
but no webpage loaded , the weather not work . but the meebo messenger
with my yahoo ID just worked .
so how can i fix it ?
tnx
I notice the conflict (with my 192.168.2.x) when I checked the HD2 IP addresses (after connecting to the WiFi). When I see the USB port bound to 192.168.2.x I know the two just conflict with each other.
If something (meebo messenger?) works but not others... could it be your HD2 not getting name resolution (DNS ?). Say if you try opening this do you get the Google page:
http://74.125.153.104/
** This is Google's page without the need to resolve via DNS.

I had the same problem. I solved it by updating the radio to version 2.14.50.2. I think this version works best.
For me 2.15.50.14 works, too...
