Any way to get higher video sound quality? - EVO 4G General

Does anyone know a way to make the video recording audio quality better. Or maybe a rom that has it. This audio quality is really killing me. I came from using a palm pre which had way way better video audio, which is quite disappointing. So, anyone got a solution?

I'm running CM7 nightlies and the audio quality has improved in gingerbread noticeably.

HD/Z roms have good audio.

Cool, i'll try out CM7. But what roms are HD/Z?

dont understand crappy audio

I dont understand it.. samsung sells video cameras ... if they sold one with the crapy audio of our phone no one would buy it and they wouldnt sell any.
So they know how to record acceptable audio.. Why cannot they tweek the audio settings when you start camera to record acceptable audio (assuming they need to be different than for a phone) and change back when exiting/using phone?
What are you comparing the audio recording to. I've seen people compare it to other phones online, and many reckoned it was quite good..
Also, you do realise that video cameras have a lot more space to work with right? The quality of todays smartphones video/audio/photos is magic considering the limited space available for sensors.

It's way too sensitive... I recorded a concert (and a drive in teh car) and the audio was crap. Distorted in the car, unbearable in concert (way distorted/nosiy... literally couldn't hear the actual music).
Saw other videos with phones and they were MUCH better (audio wise). And no, it wasn't an extremely loud concert.
I think the audio is really good for a phone this size. Are you comparing it to a bose system or what? Lol

I had the same problem with Omnia HD. The sound of videos was so poor too. It was resolved by firmware update, where the audio codec was updated.
Anyone knows if exists any firmware with an acceptable sound quality of recorded videos on i9000??

Playback is great, it is the recording that is a bit crazy, the mic is super sensitive.. hopefully they can adjust this in a firmware.
True i was in rally few days ago and recorded some videos from there , video quality was awesome but sound was terrible. Too sensitive mic!
Impressed by 720p capture, very disappointed with the audio.
Case in point: Recording as of today: youtube.com/watch?v=oQPov5mUTm8
not loud inside at all, just some general background noise.
Using latest official firmware from Samsung JG4 (Optus Aus)
It has one mic, designed for minimising out ambient noise during a phone call, you can't really expect it to be good at recording a concert.
Bs my kids 5800 an my wives n 85 and other Nokia phones all recorded acceptable audio.

OP, your meaning of "audio" should be more carefully explained.
DO you mean:
1) Audio playback?
or
2) Audio recording?
My guess is #2. Yes, the microphone is quite sensitive. There were tons of people using the Samsung Omnia ( the prior generation android smartphone) who complained about the microphone NOT being sensitive enough. So Samsung decided to make the mic more sensitive.

audio and video quality

can these be improved by software overtime, im honestly not a fan of the quality of the audio/video quality..
Yeah, same here. I was wondering if we could rip the camera app from the galaxy s...that would make it perfect

Bad voice recording

Anyone noticed how bad the voice recording is on videos and just voice recording? Any ideas or thoughts on how this can be fixed?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Yep,
the voice-recording quality is really low...
For now there's no way to up the audio bitrate in recordings.
But there is an app in the market called "Tapemachine Lite" which records in really high quality. It shows that the Desire HD is capable or high quality recording, but why HTC doesn't implement it in the camcorder we'll never know.
Yes sound quality is really low and I wish it were higher. It could be to improve FPS while recording videos.
Is your voice bad or is the sound of the recorded bad ?
Lol the voice recording is bad. On videos its really bad doesn't pick up the sounds from poeple very well. Just bad noise.
These little little issues have really disheartened me with my DHD. I was expecting the best android phone on the market just to fond out that after installing a few apps /games the GPS takes ages to connect to the point you have to factory reset, a **** speaker that makes watching a movie without headphones hell. And now my browser is dog slow so here comes a other factory reset.

Mic records videos at 32kbps bit rate, mono and 8KHz sampling rate, but the mic can record in better quality outside video recording but for some reason it's like that while recording.

I've got tons of apps installed and GPS is good, I don't know why it's like that for you.

What have you done with your phone?? Lol, it shouldn't be, I can assure you of that. Have you tried some custom roms?

Poor Headphone Audio Quality on Desire HD

Hey everyone,
i know there have been a lot of threads about the poor audio quality of the speaker. While it is not perfect, i can live with the quality revolution HD brings.
But when i use my earphones/headphones, i always notice how bad the Desire HD performs when playing music. Even when i compare the quality to a cheap MP3-Player, it doesnt sound good.
Can someone explain why the quality is so bad and if there is any way to improve the audio quality?
My Ideas would be:
-Bluetooth Audio adapter (but then again it is wireless, can't really be better)
-get a micro-usb to 3.5mm adapter (wouldnt help probably)
Any Ideas?
well, the DHD isn't famous for it's audio quality... there is nothing you can do about that.
it's probably related to a cheap sound chip used in the dhd.

Just how "bad" quality are you talking about? Currently I'm using Nokia BH-503 and I'm pretty much satisfied with it. Good bass, clarity and range. It may not be the best, but "good" enough.
well, i use it as my default music player as well and it doesnt perform miserably, but whenever i connect my 150$ earphones, i always feel underwhelmed.
The highs just don't perform well, they lack a certain clarity. They sound a bit like tin cans
strange. i have the best audio quality on headset of all mp3 player i ever had with my DHD. i am still astonished how decent it is.
all of my friends have confirmed this.
At least DHD is far better than cheap MP3 player. But from where I am, I can't judge directly your claim. But you could use person near you to judge it. Ask if the sounds are truly bad as you said. Better if you could find another DHD for comparison. If it is the same, it seems that you set your standards a bit too high. No offense.
Strange to see this thread^^ I think the audio quality of the dhd is superb. I've been using an iPod for the last years and the quality is about the same i guess in normal mode. But when i enable SRS its like another level. I hear details on my tracks that i didn't even knew where there before.
So i really can't give any complaints. But anyway about 80% of the music quality comes from your headphones. I'm using stage in ears from shure because I'm a musician, and those headphones are much better than the average 30 bucks ones.
well, i recently noticed this when listening to a sony MP3-Player. When Comparing it to an LG P990, i also found the quality to be a bit clearer on the LG.
The SRS Sound does make it a little punchier, but it doesn't really fix the sound quality in my opinion.
I installed Volume Ace which gives you full control of all volume settings and I also have an app called Equalizer installed which, yes allows you to set various profiles/presets of music including bass, reverb, spacializer, echo etc etc. My DHD has SUPERB sound with this. If you use the stock music app it even switches profiles automatically provided the mp3 has the metadata for genre of music etc. I use Mortplayer which is now available for Android and I used it on WinMob too. It is THE best music player imho. I also use the HTC bluetooth headset and the sound quality is equally good with rich bass etc etc.
I use Moboplayer for movies/videos and the sound is equally superb. I am not sure what problem your device might have?
i will give the equalizer app a try, will report back whether i am more satisfied with the sound then.
UPDATE: The sound does seem quite a bit better when i use the equlalizer, thanks for that!
Well just wait for the new HTC devices with integrated dre beats audio

i use a good AKG Headset and the sound is superb... on my DHD
I use Poweramp with these settings (iBeats headphones)
Equaliser preset: Techno (You can try Rock too, I dont listen to these but they offer clean bass and good highs)
Bass knob: About 40%
Treble knob: About 55%
Tone: Enabled
DHD: SRS Enhancement
Try it, its better than anything else I've seen on basically any other device.
I totally agree,
The HTC in comparison to different ipods and MP3 players is not in the same league.
Even the power is much lower on the HTC...
Currently i'm using iPod for my music (for the "real" music), along with the DHD for ...m.... calling ?
Gentlemen, lets not generalize. The DHD might not be on par with iPods/iPhones.
But that doesn't mean whole HTC is not on par. Example, my HD2 sounds better than my gf ipod, but that might be the music player (android ginger) tweaks.
Another example, on the world of smartphones, the olddy HTC Kaiser has one of the better speakerphones, i haven't seen nothing better (except some old nokias like the ngage 1st gen, yet this one usually would burn the speaker)
So, though the sound might not be that good, i rather have a phone that plays good sound, than a phone and a mp3 player. Honestly, most my musics are on FLAC, so any mp3 player would sound bad to me. No... i'm not a audophile. I don't have a better ear than anyother, but i can see difference between a 320kbps mp3 and any flac.
I have found that audio quality is very poor through the HTC supplied headset, but through my personal headphones really good, plus the ARHD ROM adds some volume and aswell to the sound.

I'm curious if you're using the stock ROM (that came with your phone) or a custom one (CyanogenMod, MIUI, etc.)
I'm on Miui.us ROM and my audio through headphones is quite clear, if rather loud.
I am using ARHD.
With the Beats Audio add-on it seems quite a lot better (the highs don't oversteer that much anymore).
My DHD performs quite correctly in the matter of sound !!
Check out the radio updates, roms and softwares
They can change a lot already

ROM with the best audio quality

I have tried various ROMs that advertised Beats Audio and Sony Xloud implementation. To be honest, I have yet to notice a difference. I even flashed the Beats software mod and still didn't notice anything. Can someone please point me to the ROM that truly makes a difference without having high end headphones?

I think you're best bet is to work with eq either using dsp manager or something with a robust eq like jetaudio full, to get the most out of your existing headphones. The beats thing on our evos never really worked right as it was mostly hardware dependent. I don't think you'll find that audio quality is rom specific.
audio quality is pretty much determined by the source media (bitrate of mp3s, streaming media, etc) and the speakers (headphones).
No rom is going to spin crap into silk.
Thanks button hit for both of you.

Try mikg or digitalkarma. The sound quality is great in both when you get the dsp settings where you want. Those are the two sense roms that the dsp bass boost works correctly. A lot of other roms the bass boost will give it more bass, but will reduce the volume. I always end up coming back to mikg because the sound quality beats the hell out of beats.

I use Digitalkarma and Poweramp. The best sound that I have found so far.
Closed, no such thing as a "best" rom for anything.
