can these be improved by software overtime, im honestly not a fan of the quality of the audio/video quality..

Yeah, same here. I was wondering if we could rip the camera app from the galaxy s...that would make it perfect

dont understand crappy audio

I dont understand it.. samsung sells video cameras ... if they sold one with the crapy audio of our phone no one would buy it and they wouldnt sell any.
So they know how to record acceptable audio.. Why cannot they tweek the audio settings when you start camera to record acceptable audio (assuming they need to be different than for a phone) and change back when exiting/using phone?
What are you comparing the audio recording to. I've seen people compare it to other phones online, and many reckoned it was quite good..
Also, you do realise that video cameras have a lot more space to work with right? The quality of todays smartphones video/audio/photos is magic considering the limited space available for sensors.

It's way too sensitive... I recorded a concert (and a drive in teh car) and the audio was crap. Distorted in the car, unbearable in concert (way distorted/nosiy... literally couldn't hear the actual music).
Saw other videos with phones and they were MUCH better (audio wise). And no, it wasn't an extremely loud concert.
I think the audio is really good for a phone this size. Are you comparing it to a bose system or what? Lol

I had the same problem with Omnia HD. The sound of videos was so poor too. It was resolved by firmware update, where the audio codec was updated.
Anyone knows if exists any firmware with an acceptable sound quality of recorded videos on i9000??

Playback is great, it is the recording that is a bit crazy, the mic is super sensitive.. hopefully they can adjust this in a firmware.
True i was in rally few days ago and recorded some videos from there , video quality was awesome but sound was terrible. Too sensitive mic!
Impressed by 720p capture, very disappointed with the audio.
Case in point: Recording as of today: youtube.com/watch?v=oQPov5mUTm8
not loud inside at all, just some general background noise.
Using latest official firmware from Samsung JG4 (Optus Aus)
It has one mic, designed for minimising out ambient noise during a phone call, you can't really expect it to be good at recording a concert.
Bs my kids 5800 an my wives n 85 and other Nokia phones all recorded acceptable audio.

OP, your meaning of "audio" should be more carefully explained.
DO you mean:
1) Audio playback?
or
2) Audio recording?
My guess is #2. Yes, the microphone is quite sensitive. There were tons of people using the Samsung Omnia ( the prior generation android smartphone) who complained about the microphone NOT being sensitive enough. So Samsung decided to make the mic more sensitive.

Camera

I was at a festival on Saturday I took some wicked videos in dark and out side the quality and frame rate are both nice.got a great one of the lasers . The sound quality is distorted with loud recordings but the only camera on a phone that had a decent audio quality was the N97. Its a shame the photo quality isn't as good as the videos. The shutter speed is the culprit. Is this likely to change with a new build or android update?

Hopefully, i'm sure dell must have acknowledged the poor shutter speed and i know an update to the video recorder is coming with the next 2.1 update (720p recording!! ), so we can only cross our fingers and wait!

Nexus S video quality - fine but not for concerts

Just wanted to share with you guys...
I have a Nokia 5800 XM which I've taken to concerts to get some clips which come out with decent audio but poor video. So the last one I've been too I decided to take my new Nexus S and I was quite impressed with the video quality (even though you can't zoom in). But then when I heard the sound... it's below fart quality. Unusable... I wonder how other phones fare on this! The Nokia 5800 XM definitely kicks ass with sound recording except for the sub-par video...
Flash a kernel that has voodoo to fix the sound recording problem

If you want good recording in the dark and great audio get an Xperia Arc, it's camera sensor was designed for dark environments.
I owned the Arc for around 2 weeks, then traded it for a Nexus S. I didn't really like the Arc much, the hardware was a bit of an issue for me. But as far as the camera goes, its tops.

Nexus 4 720p/1080p video samples...

I know the device isn't out just yet, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a sample of Nexus 4 camcorder yet? (Front & Back). I rely heavily on my cameras for work & for other reasons & not to bash the G-Nex, but the camera sensor on this device is a little underwhelming to say the least. I heard the camera hardware was based off of the AT&T 8mp Optimus G, but I'm not sure if that's an actual spitting image of what we can expect from the N4.
Any links or input would be greatly appreciated in advanced. Worst case scenario, 10 days isn't too far away!
Here you have some video samples:
Hope is what are you looking for :good:

Thanks sooo much for the quick reply with content. The actually image quality is quite an improvement, but my problem lies with the FPS & the audio to a certain extent. I wasn't expecting perfection, so I'm overall happy with what we have here. I'm sure it'll get better between camera mods & software updates. Thanks again.
The mic makes the video so crap, I tried to record video with my GS2 once upon a time and it was far worse than my old iPhone 4 which had such amazing audio quality. I mean I went to Reading last year and the iPhone 4 was super clear, picked up good bass and sounded great but the GS2 just sounded like I was rubbing a plastic bag over the mic and the bass just killed the mic all together.
So if the audio sucks then there is no point to it shooting video tbh. I just have a separate camera though so it doesn't bother me too much though.
I would love it if someone uploaded the original video file from the phone. Youtube seems to always use an aggressive compression on user uploads, I rarely see good 1080p videos on the site, even from pro cameras.
Make sure to go fullscreen when watching the video and turn your youtube video to 720p HD.
Can anyone help ....
I get HEAVY compression artifacts on the video recordings at 1080p on the nexus 4 itself - even when I upload to the PC. The sound and video is compressed sounding too.

[Q] Quality of audio Recording at concert

Hi all, yesterday night i taken some videos with my g2 at a concert. I use xdabbed mod, except some problems in autofocus the main problem is the audio quality, it's very poor when there are a lot of bass. Before i got a lumia 925 that records very well with nokia camera.
Is there some mod or api that improves audio quality?
Unfortunately, when it comes to screens and cameras, Nokia is the bawss.
I don't think the G2 has decent quality mics let alone noise cancelation mic.
This is going to sound pretty stupid but try a small adhesive bandage over the microphone. Doesn't perform miracles but totally helps on reasonable spls.
