Hey guys, don't know if this is already out there, but I was on the phone with samsung about my I9000m and it's sd card failure. (they said to send it to them and they will replace it) But the main reason for this post is, He stated that it was kies that is causing the internal sd card problem. I asked when I get my new galaxy and install 2.2 on it with the kies i have will it cause the same problem? His reply was yes, under no circumstances use the old kies to install 2.2 or you WILL have the same problem. He gave me the link to the new kies software and said uninstall everything from the old kies version and install the new one and this will not happen again. So uninstall your old kies software and download this one.
wont let me post the link, but it is on the samsung website
It's not only Kies. Many users haven't upgraded anything and their internal SD cards died. This doesn't surprise me, that a Samsung employee said this. I once called Samsung and they said, "Yeah, pretty sure it was a hoax - someone accidentally uploaded a bad firmware and thats why its causing them all to die."
I flashed maybe 10 times using Odin and ClockworkMod recovery and this caused the internal SD card to die.
Apparently the new Bell firmware, JL2, fixes the issue by installing a new secondary boot loader.
He was bs'n you.I have never even installed nor used kies and I had TWO phones die on me.
Both failed within a month. First in14 days second lasted 25 or so days. Third one has been going for around 20 days now

Since I got the Samsung Galaxy S 2 it kept rebooting itself every once in a while.
This seemed to happen only after doing something.
For example:
After opening an app.
It even happened once when I got a phone call.
I've reformatted the device the 2nd day I got it (for another reason) and it still happens.
Does this happen to anyone else?
What can I do?
What is the your device?

Galaxy S 2.... Thought it was pretty obvious since I posted in the GS2 thread
I'll update it though
If it still happens after the update I'd return it. Mine have been rock steady since day one, had it for 10 days now.

Not always .
But i would install latest firmware first .
Either via official Kies update or unofficial Odin method .
Or return it to seller .

I had random rebooting after moving apps to SD. Dolphin HD seemed to be the main offender.
I moved all the apps back to phone and then, just for good measure, formatted my internal storage & SD card (after backing them up). All seems happy again now.

Do this and then a hard reset. If it's still rebooting exchange the phone.
No, I didn't need to hard reset but it is worth a try. Mine has now settled down again.
What version of the software are you on? If you still get problems then get it exchanged.
I'm on the 2.3.3 version Kernel 2.6.35.7.
When I go to Setting> About> Software update it says that there are none.
What do you mean by hard reset?
In the Settings> Privacy there is a Factory Data Reset option. Is that what you mean?

The build number is
Gingerbread.XWKDC
Also, in the Kies software it says that this version of the device cannot be upgraded. Why is that?
So should I reformatt the device again? How can I back everything up including my contacts and the way I synced them with facebook etc? Can I also back up widgets?
Edit: When I try to use the Backup option in Kies, it keeps showing 0% and doesn't change.
What can I do?
Also, in the Kies software it says that this version of the device cannot be upgraded. Why is that?
Because their is no update supplied by the phone supplier to Kies .
XWKDC old firmware .
How can I back everything up including my contacts and the way I synced them with facebook etc?
KIES or and back up contacts to Sim Card or Google mail
Can I also back up widgets?
Yes Titanium pro from the market .
A factory reset and wipe all data.
Or return to seller /service centre .
Or use unofficial method and upgrade firmware yourself but that wont fix hardware fault .

Factory reset doesn't wipe the SD card, I believe. Hard reset wipes everything including SD card. Type *2767*3855# on the dial pad to do this

Happened to me, same instances; could be micro SDHC compatibility problem. Seems that the Apacer 16GB micro SDHC I was using was causing the reboot. Formatting the micro SDHC on the phone doesn't help. Popped another Transcend 32GB micro SDHC into it and the rebooting just went away, didn't happen no more.

If XWKDC is old firmware, and Kies won't let me upgrade it, how do I upgrade it?
When you say phone supplier you mean my carrier? Because the SGS2 isn't out yet where I come from. I got it from the UK.
When you say unofficial methods, what does that mean? Does that require rooting?
I'm having a similar problem when i connect to pc with USB, after disconnecting the phone and usb cable the media scanner starts, completes and then phone reboots?
Anyone else experienced this?

Hello,
I am writing since i want to avoid reseting my phone for this since samsung kies fails at restoring my phone (it restore what the programs wants).
I have 2 gb of free space and i logged into my home wifi. I selected software update and it says there are not updates available. Called AT&T they told me to call Samsung. They suggested to try using kies and kies wont update. Samsung Kies says i have the latest firmware. I verified the about device info, i am still on Android 4.3. Many friends on ATT already got the update. Any help?
No one knows? Any idea?
Im not supposed to tell you not to upgrade to the official ota. But ive heard of so many bugs on it that most of us here didnt take it, or those that took it wants to go back but cant. If you really want to look at the general thread for att note 3 youll find it there but also spend some time reading peoples post about official ota.

I you go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SM-N900A&pcode=ATT#firmware
there is no KK update for you device.
Hello,
I updated my galaxy s4 gt-i9500 - Indian exynos version to android lollipop 5.0.1
After the update, the device is very fluidic and I never had any glitch. The update seems to be pretty stable as well. But around 2 weeks after this update I got this problem- my device got factory data reset on its own with everything erased from both internal memory and sd card as well. This happened when my device was kept on a table and when I saw it, it was turning on and then i found that startup screen that comes after the reset. After around 1 week, when I was using my phone a random message appeared on my screen saying "erasing sd card" I was pretty much sure that it was the same problem so I turned off my device, when I turned it on, everything from my sd card was erased, but nothing happened to phone memory. When I went to service centre, they were saying it could be a problem of the update. They seem to be not knowing about the problem and offered me to go back to kitkat. I dont want to go back to kitkat so my last resort was xda-developers. Please help.
What exactly do you want from XDA?
I want a solution to my problem.
I want to know what is happening with my deviceand a possible solution for my problem.
Hi,
I have been having a ongoing problem with my Galaxy Note 3 N9005 in where after the 5.0 upgrade (stock over air) it has been restarting pretty much 4-5 times during the day, and a number of times while even just sitting on the desk doing nothing.
Since I am still on contract with my supplier in NZ, I took the phone back to get repaired, in which Samsung sent it back to state "Software corruption, reloaded software".
I didn't believe them, but hoped it was correct - but sure enough the same thing happened. So I once again took it back, where they have once again told me the same thing. It is now the third time I have done this, with Samsung saying the same thing!
Now I am at wits end, and have asked for replacement, but I am being told "It is due to your google account being corrupt, and it is causing software corruption....." *sigh*
So now not only is Samsung just not helping, they are blaming my Google accounts for causing the issue. Which btw - I didn't setup the last time, and still it restarted - but they are ignoring that fact!
Anyway - the advice I want to get is has anyone else had the same issue with the Galaxy Note 3 after upgrading? I know there is no way to rollback 5.0 to old version, but did anyone fix the issue by Root and then adding another ROM (I don't want to root this phone, but to be honest I also can't afford right now to replace so I am looking at options)
Right now I am facing a ongoing battle with Samsung and my provider to replace the phone, but they are fighting it a lot and to be honest I have lost my patience so I am thinking to just drop them, root/flash new Rom, and then go to another provider - and probably never buy Samsung again when I can finally upgrade.
(used to love Samsung products but this behavior I have had is certainly making me think twice before I touch them again)
Since they refuse to accept warranty you can try to flash twrp. Then clear everthing(system/caches). Then back to stock with odin. There might be leftover of corrupted files that could cause reboot.
But later they have a better reason not to accept your phone, knox tripped.
And you can actually downgrade to 4.4.2. Just flash firmware of the same csc to be safe.

Do you have memory card installed? if so then scan you memory card for possible viruses.
Actually I have this issue too before.
Even if I left it lying on the table, it can restart by itself.
I tried to update to latest PB1 rom, the update failed, the phone restart while ODIN updating.
So I use Kies recovery and got it working again.
After that, i tried again update to PB1 rom using ODIN. and now no issues at all.
I dont know which one did the trick whether update to PB1 or KIES recovery.

Thanks - but no I don't - these are the first things I did when it started happening.
When it started happening I did factory reset, removing memory card, factory reset again, didn't restore backup from google... etc etc - so the general admin tech stuff.
Because under warranty (2 year contract) I didn't want to do anything more so sent to provider to get dealt with (into my 22 months of 24 months). For the last 4 months it has been to them a number of times for the same thing.
Now each time they send it back they claim "software corrupt" and that there is no hardware issue. So doing a software root and mod change for me is a hope - and probably not a good one - that the Stock 5.0 is the problem on this phone. And only going down this road because I am coming out of the warranty and right now I have a phone I can't really use, and damn Samsung won't support it or fix it (which is really all I want them to do!!) sigh

Thanks for this information, because in fact you are not the first time I have read this but I am not sure what the Kies recovery is - is there some instructions you have because maybe that is what should try, because I have seen other people on Google state this has helped them with restarting, but that was usually after Mod fix. Maybe there is something in the 5.0 update on GN3 that might cause this?

Thanks I didn't think from what I was reading that you could backwards - in fact Samsung have just down right refused, which is all I have asked them to do in the last two times - "Just flash back to the version that was on there last 4.4.2. because that didn't cause any issues!" However, they are stating very firmly that you can not rollback or re-flash back to a previous version.
Is there any instructions which are for the 9005? I have seen for the 900 but the instructions state very clearly you can't use them for 9005.

Just flash the firmware with odin. Factory reset in recovery after it's done. That's it. There are a lots of threads about going down such this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...o-downgrade-lollipop-to-kitkat-t2990262/page2
I suggest you read through before you go further. They are mixed results. Some successful. Some did not. That is why it is better to flash the same csc firmware.
I even able to downgrade my S6 from 6.01 to 5.1.1 without issue but of course it's different phone.

Some background... this phone was bought back in the day when Note 4 was about to be released. I have been the unique owner and I have treated the device with an abnormal amount of care and respect. Updates were about to come up but for my device... the bloody thing was getting said updates way too late (2-3 months later than everybody else such as UK or Poland). I grew tired of waiting so I did it, I force updated my own device using an image from sammobile.com with Android 4.4.2 using ODIN. It worked. The phone updated flawlessly in around 3 minutes it started the boot up sequence but the only difference was that the software inside was for UK not my European region which was Romania.
Fast forward... I rooted the device, did a lot of firmware tests (even after 5.0 came out, I still installed a ton of firmwares on it and they all functioned properly even if I was dealing with Android 6.0 or even 7.0) and the phone generally functioned very very well.
Now my **** up was that I wanted to reformat the phone to a 100% stock image (which I could do with ease at any given moment) and for some strange reason I ticked "Nand Erase All" and the reformat went trough... the software fully installed. My phone booted up and what do you know? I suddenly have 16 GB of storage instead of 32. I panic a little... I try to firmware upgrade a normal stock image for the romanian version of the Note 3. Stock Romanian based software for SM-N9005. Fails mid update 100% of the time me trying it well over 20 times. A bit of research, I end up realizing I ****ed up the phone seriously bad. So one guy saves me with a "repair firmware" which is named: N9005XXUGBNL8_OXAGBNL8_v5.0_Repair_Firmware. I manage to flash the whole thing onto the phone and it works... but things are off. Apps are crashing at random, the phone is laggy at times... heck, there's a "android.media has stopped working" popping up every 2-3 minutes or even faster if I use internal storage. I can barely do anything... it also destorys the SD Card. As in, I gotta connect it to a micro SD reader to repair the micro SD from within Windows to be able to copy what's on it or even copy something on it... internal storage is zippy but again, it stops working once this android.media crashes. A few months pass, my girlfriend gives me a chance to repair the phone one hopeful last time. So I said "**** it" and I tried flashing again, the latest RO ROM for the phone. It fails mid way. I try restarting the phone and... it's bricked. It says that the software update failed and I need to connect it to Kies to update. Did just that and I find out Samsung doesn't allow the Note 3 to be emergency software updated anymore.....
I have the repair software, and another 2 different softwares. I have tried so many times to update the device using different cables and ports. Heck, I even installed Windows 7 to see if it works (until one guy told me I can install it trough VMWare and I will get the same exact result as if I were to have Windows 7 directly installed on the PC)... nothing works. My main error message is the one attached as a picture.
I tried every ODin, port and cable I could. I just... don't know what to do anymore. The phone is great but do I really have to buy a secondary display broken phone and transfer the mainboard from that phone to this one to have a "functioning" phone again or are there other options I missed out on?
Thanks for your message! I shall try to respond as soon as possible.
Search Nand Erase .
My guess is you need a service centre with a Rif box .

I have tried myself. You have a chance of actually flashing it if you have the original cable that came with the phone. If not, the service is the only spot that can help.
I went to a shop and using an NS Pro box thr phone flashed problemlessly. Found out about my bad usb cable and here we are. The phone cost me 35 euros but it functions again.

Probably. Try it.
Here's the fix, it is the proper way to use "nand erase all" and to fix problems encountered while trying to use it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610757
You can find the you the PIT files you need for it
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30482
(make sure you download the one coresponding to the stock firmware just in case)
For other devices just google it.
