[Q] Exchange woes... - Hero, G2 Touch General

My works exchange server has recently been updated to 2010 sp1 and now exchange on my Hero isn't working I've been in touch with them, and they have said it is an issue only with the Hero. I believe it's to do with the security certificates. The HTC setup wizard gets as far as choosing what I want to sync, then bombs out with a Failed to Create Account. Please Try again message. Stock displayed something like "Could not open Network..."
I am currently on Stock 2.1, but had been on cyanogen 6.1 and had the same problem with both. After doing a google on it, mixed advice floating about with regards to the 2.2 Stock Email app working (not 2.21) Don't know if I'm alone with this?
Funny thing was when I returned to stock 1.5 it worked fine, and also Touchdown works on 2.1 and above, but these aren't fixes I really want to consider.
Still have 5 months contract left until I can upgrade to something else, so just wondered if anyone had this issue, and had found a fix?

I hear you.
We have Exchange 2010 at work as well. I've found ONE email.apk that works for any android 2.2 rom. See the attached file
For myself, after entering my Exchange credentials I need to go into 'Manual Setup' to customize a few things. Afterwards it works.
Good luck!

Thankyou!!! That did the trick!!! Was really hoping it was something like that, you're a legend - my Hero is finally working like I wanted it to again.
Just to confirm for anyone else, I'm running Floyo 2.2 with the above Email.apk and all works as should, but I'm guessing this should be the same for any 2.2 Rom.
Much appreciated, even my works exchange experts were stumped!

Glad to hear about your success. When I finally got it to work I was SO HAPPY too.
For the record, if you happen to try a 2.3 ROM, the built in Email.apk works great.
I'm on the hunt for an Email.apk that will work with 2.1 but haven't found anything as of yet. If you hear of one please let me know.

new Gmail client doesnt work

Hi,
I downloaded the latest version of the Gmail client to my phone and installed it - which went fine.
When I run it, I get java.lang.error message and it fails to load. I see other people have had this error too, but no one has a solution that I have seen as yet (aside from reverting to the older version, which is more of a workaround than a solution)
Anybody else solved (or had) this problem?
thanks
John
Got the same problem- just set up Gmail on the normal client for now.
Yeah, im using that too, but i like the look of the new gmail client but am struggling to find a fix for this,
anyone else?
Unfortunately it seems fairly common, and no particular fix for it. its cross-platform
:EDIT:
looks like a problem with the Jar file that gets downloaded I grabbed the JAR direct from
http://gmail.com/app/v2.0.6/L1/gmail-g.jar and it works perfectly!
tried the work around. works for me too.
Sorry for being a noob about this, this is my first WinMob device. So i got the jar, when i try to install it its asks for the URL or the "midlet"?
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks
it shouldnt do that, are you using the jar file I linked to?
It should just compile and run.
If you do
Start Java, then menu>install>local files> the name of the Jar
What happens?
Where do you guys get the gmail prog from? I cant find it any where. Nvm i got it, same error too.

about 4 posts up??
fads,
Thank you kindly, it was the way i was installing it. noob error!
many thanks.
The worst thing is the truely ugly icon. Can that be changed?
Problem is now I have two in my Programs. One works fine but the other comes up with the same error. Neither shows up in Remove Programs. How do I get rid of the one that doesn't work?

start Java-menu-actions-uninstall
choose google mail rather than gmail to remove (I think).
Thanks a lot, fards.
Thanks a lot fards, works perfectly now.
If only Google could fix their links, now that would be about time.

JAVA & F1-applet?

Currently I'm running the Cell Pro V11 and although I don't think this ROM-version can be the problem, I thought it was worthy mentioning.
I'm trying to get the official F1-applet going that mobile users can download from http://mobile.formula1.com but for some reason it comes up with an OutofMemory-error even when my TP2 has "only" 48% used after a soft reset.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this as well or that maybe a JAVA-update is in order or that there is some volatile memory that needs excluding in the registry for this app to work.
Really appreciate some answers/pointers from fellow F1-fans.
Same problem for me as well. Haven't figured out what is wrong. Really wish it wasn't a Java applet.
I will look into that. Downloading and testing.

Much appreciated Sergio; I know you're quite the busy bee...
In the FAQ section for the TP2 you will find a link to install JavaFX.
The repeat the procedure and you will not get out of memory anymore
Thanks for that; will try later tonight or tomorrow and report back...
/edit: it works... Bit slow though but I will try it out next F1 to see how accurate it is.
Thanks for the JavaFX hint.
Installed fine but unable to login message keeps coming up with unable to find server.
Any hints mates?
stock Sprint TP2 6.5 Sense 2.5.
Woke up this AM in the USA, & lo & behold the app worked for Round 3 of the WCC - Malaysia.
Nice stuff.
Must've been server issues not allowing some of us to connect the last couple of days.
Best advice I can say for Touch Pro2 owners is download the JavaFX & install that before downloading latest F1 App.
Should be able to get the HTC soft keyboard up & running too & u can choose not to use the app's own proprietary soft keyboard.

palringo IM on hd2

has anyone been able to install this on their tmobile hd2? i tried installing via opera on my phone and "an error occurred" during installation. when copying the cab file over to my phone and navigating to it via explorer, clicking on it does nothing...doesn't start the installation. installing apps hasn't changed, right? navigate to the cab and click it? i owned the original HD last year and am winmo capable...bah!
thanks,
rob
i attached the ones i downloaded a while ago.
the larger one (1) is beta version - this is the one i prefer.
a message for update will arrive shortly after first use.
awesome, the beta installed fine. i guess palringo gave me the wrong cab version or something. thanks!
you're welcome
wow, that was fast
Palringo is great, but remember that it is better to turn it off when not using.
Otherwise, you will run out of batter sooner than you think
yea, i remember using it on my htc touch hd1. it did hurt battery a bit, but it seemed like the best IM client out there at the time. because i've always got my laptop and bag with me, i guess i'll have to make sure to keep my charging cable with me as well.

after first use of the beta? i haven't received an updated message yet...is it to update to a non-beta full version?
only an updated beta i think.
you have to have a little patience, sometimes it takes 30 mins or so for the message to appear.
hello! I've been using palringo too and I think it's the best messenger app out there but does anyone has this problem? Every time I try to share a picture, I can't launch the camera anymore and have to soft reset...!
i like beejive more but unfortunately it doesn't provide support for its winmo version anymore and sometimes it doesn't work for days. so overall i also think palringo is the best for winmo.
i have never tried to send files through palringo so i can't help.
just one more thing, i've just read somebody managed to run succesfully fring for xperia x1 on hd2. perhaps we might also give it a try

HD2: Not for texting! D:

you'd think HTC would have thought these devices through a little more, yeah? NO.
seeing as how i can't send a text message without a five second delay. i can't receive a text message without my phone freezing for ten. and god forbid i try and view one message while receiving another one, right?
also consider: the 1ghz processor, 16gb harddrive, 1024mb rom (on some devices), and this thing can't go five minutes without a hiccup? what the hell? D:
maybe my phone is just a screwed copy, but **** n' seriously. i just want to be able to have eye candy that operates decently. i thought that's what the HD2 was for, but it was a huge let down for me.
now, until HTC gets their crap in order and creates a better text engine, or someone ports android over to the HD2, guess what guys? we're F&%KED.
so, enlighten me, xda friendlies. are there additional text engines for the HD2? different programs to use, for faster typing and flawless send/receive features? cause until then, i'm inserting my sim card into my iPhone, as much as i hate apple itself with a burning passion, at least it texts somewhat better.
cause seriously, if i can't even stand to use my own phone, what the hell is the point?
intelligent responses only, go take your immaturities somewhere else.
Have you tried a Custom ROM?
At least try the new upgrade
If your not ready for custom ROM (like me) try the upgrade.
Worked for me, resolving apparently (its still early) all of my previous problems with the phone- like yours.
Good luck. I think this is a good machine, just has a few bugs- thats normal.

i've tried Energyrom GTX version. fully updated. and i didn't like it.
it came with a crap load of extras, and i liked that, but the text messaging was back to the version before the HD2, the very same i dealt with on the TP2. didn't like it for some reason.
are there any custom roms that you approve of? if so, please, link me to the page so i can test them out for myself. and thanks in advance.

great machine. too buggy of an OS. not saying others are flawless, but i'd rather not have the only flaws in it related to the major thing i do with the phone. and i have upgraded to the rom that t-moUS release just a week ago. it's still pretty slow for me, considering my fingers move too fast for the keyboard to pick up on. i've already registry edited the lengthymessage thread, making it so the cache is always enabled, and somewhat speeding the system up a little bit when viewing the message itself. but typing is still very slow, and it's driven me up three walls, and back again.
does the text system and keyboard operate faster when SenseUI is disabled, using only the homescreen? cause if so, maybe i can deal with that, too. sense is nice, but not everything.
Try the upgraded ROM. I didnt have that much trouble but it has improved immensely! I can run CHT Again!
Yeah, try the upgrade. I am a major texter, and the new client works perfectly for me.
i have never had an issue with texting on my hd2, i went from the stock shiped to the upgraded 2.13 and never had an issue, now using elegancia 8.5 and still no issues.

i'm gonna check that ROM out tomorrow, and get back to you if it helps me. but tell me, do you kno the difference between the "htc messaging" and "non-htc messaging" versions? which one is gonna be faster whith sending and receiving, as well as typing? please, and thank you very much, you guys.
just saying..
THANK YOU, YOU GUYS!
i know i'm not the only poor guy out there suffering from bad HD2 messaging. so this is helping more than just me. =]
PLEASE! keep the answers coming.
To be more specific its rom upgrade 2.13, I assume youre still on the stock rom, the new tmous rom upgrade is 2.13, I myself have a custom rom, cleanex uniQ and it comes with the new messaging client and it also doesnt have the junk load of apps on it either just google rom upgrade 2.13, and im sure youll be satisfied with the text messaging I know I am, hope this helps a little buddy

alright, i will check the energyrom page again and investigate. but if i go with energyrom, i would choose the second version which has the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. hopefully this, as well, has the messenger that i need.
i would just divert back to 2.10 which you can get from xmoo's stock ROM thread. 2.13 had me to the point where i wanted to throw my phone at the wall. its incredibly easy to downgrade. an although i gotta be deleting txt after every 20 from a contact.. id rather deal with that then have an extremey slow freezing 2.13 messaging app. i agree with you that its shameful that such a hardware capable phone has such a ****ty messaging app

thank you for seeing this as well, my friend. but keep in mind. i'm a texter. i like keeping my messages. i have a 516 message chain with my girlfriend. and i eventually clear them out, but not willingly. i shouldn't have to clean out my text messages to make my phone operate smoothly. so a good suggestion, but not for me. thanks =]
posts:
okay so, i tried out the energyrom with cookie's hometab, and the rom works quite well. ocassionally freezes and needs a reboot, and i wish they could fix that, but it's in progress, so i'm not gonna complain too much. i downloaded the ADDON text message program he included under the addons and fixes link, and the messaging is soo much more fluid. no delays, doesn't matter how many messages i have, and i like it. it's missing the spell check feature, which i liked alot, but i can just be more careful with my spelling, and it'll work for now.
but i have yet another problem! when i receive a mms, the message comes in suuuper small, and it's not the picture either. i would fwd a 260kb photo to myself, and it'll come in at 5kb. not cool, i need that fixed. and also, the mms messaging says the limit is 300K. why is that? i thought t-mobile upped the mms size to 1024K i need that fixed, too. so if anyone has some good intel, please, comment this thread and help us all out!
THANK YOU GUYS!
Yup ROM upgrade 2.13 fixed my texting lag issues.

Confirmed for "suuuper small" pic fix for Energy ROMS. Cab provided below.
Page 32, post 313. Link to page in Energy thread
I text using the phone key pad.. I know most of you think im nuts, but give me a phone with actuall keys and I will out type and spell all of you who use a query or full keboard, i cant stand those two types, anyway stock ROM the typing was awesome I could type almost as fast as on a button phone.
Did the rom update last night, now i have to go at half speed, its terrible.
Phone buttons cant keep up, or will lock up.
If your that heavy into texting get one for the HTC Messaging disabled roms. I run Kumars premium V2.0 and I have had it on there for almost a month now with no issues and no texts deleted which means i have over 2000 on the device and it doesn't freeze

The Energy roms do not come with the HTC messenger, he added it because he wanted. I couldn't agree with you more about using the windows messenger. It works great when you get it threaded. (start>settings>systems>sms threading)

[Q] 'genie' news and weather widget on 2.2.1

Hi,
Thanks, I've been running the Darkstone rom since yesterday lunchtime and have got it all set-up and it seems to be charging ok too without having switched off once which is great, so thanks to everyone that has worked on that.
One further question though, concerning the 'genie' is it, news and weather widget which doesn't seem to be included on this build, can i get it for the 2.2.1 build as I found it very useful?
Thanks again
MM
p.s. the battery only seems to charge to 95% any ideas?

Since that can't be a NAND Rom, i suggest you boot your phone into WinMO and charge the battery to 100% there, and restart. Then your problem will be solved in regards to the battery.
On the other question, sorry, I have no idea how that genie widget can be obtained
I can't promise this will work, but here's the widget as from my System\App folder.
Hope it works for you mate
Thanks for your help guys. I'll try the battery charge on Win Mo 6.5.
I've tried the APK file johncmolyneux kindly gave but no joy, it comes up as 'could not open...' :-(
Shame this as I really liked the news widget on main page of phone.
Thanks again for your help and if anyone else has a fix it'd be very much appreciated.
MM
Here's another I found. Hope it's more use to you...

Boo!
I tried that too, thanks for the links but same thing, it just doesn't want to work. This one did install ok but just gives a 'force close' if i try and open it.
It does say for 2.1, and this DS build is 2.2(?), is there an issue because of that?

I doubt that's an issue, as 2.2 is compatible with 2.1 apps. Don't know what the problem is, but it looks like you're gonna have to go without.
I use it too, so I know your pain. A few SD builds I used didn't have it, so I was really pleased when I found it on my current builds.
I never did find a suitable replacement either.
Hey JohnC, thanks for your replies. Which build are you running?
DarkS is proving a solid build, everything works great except the genie widget.
I've now got the BBC News and Sport buttons on my phone main page if anyone has a working version of the Genie News and Weather widget for the Darkstone 2.2 SD build i'd greatly appreciate it?
Everything else is sweet as a nut, so I don't want to change the ROM build just yet for that alone...
