hi all,
Not sure I'm in the right section... please move the topic as needed.
I'm a little bored with the traditionnal boot animation and I think I would actually like having the android log displayed instead.
A bit like when booting a linux OS with a verbosity 3 or 4, you know?
One of the earlier speedmod kernels did show some of this stuff (partition checks, etc) while booting, but it was replaced later on with the first boot image (Samsung Galaxy S, in white on a black background)
It would be cool to see all the services start and the phone actually boot until getting the sim unlock pad and the launcher..
Would anyone know how to do this ? -
Reminds me of the old WinMo days where boot animations were the sh!t
Please search a little bit, there are a couple threads already discussing it. I know it's possible to customize it, whether you can show logcat style output I'm really not sure though.
oh well, I thought I had searched ^^
will try again, thanks for the advice!

Doc's online kitchen now has tons of awesome boot animation choices in case you're still looking or didn't notice those yet

cant get data sync to open. do i need dzos data.img to get to sync contacts and email?
yes, for all google apps to work you need to have already setup your google account in DZO's 1.1 build.
finally got dzo's build working and now using that data.img. quick question, does the camera work cause it didnt come on for me. not a big deal just wanted to know what all worked. nice and smooth build.

no, I didn't bring that over yet. I honestly never use the camera on my phone.
Why does my HaRET lock up at 100%? 1.1 booted just fine for me. When I try to load this build it locks up and has to be soft reset after that.
I am running NFSFAN's 6.5v10 WinMo ROM.
EDIT: Fixed, I had to re-extract and recopy the files over. Something must have corrupted randomly some where for me.
I am also using NFSFAN's 6.5 v10 ROM, and after running this Android build once, my WM ROM got royally corrupted... I'm going to hard reset and pray for the best... :\
I'm not trying to be a troll, here. But if anyone could help identify what went wrong, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I extracted all the files (except for data.img) and fired up Android. Waited a few minutes (like the thread said I would have to) and then I waited a minute or two before turning off the phone (through Android). Restarted the phone, and my Titanium home screem doesn't work, and neither does the Start Menu. And right when it starts I get "Cannot Start Voice Command. Reinstall and try again."
my wife had the same problems on her white vogue, I don't really know what it is... Pretty much means android is out of the question for you until we figure it out.
Thanks for this. I am finding it really hard to read the screen though. I did allign it. Is there a cleartype thing for android? non cupcake build looks real nice, but cupcake seems to have issues with readability.
Again, thanks for this, can't wait to see the final results.
After a Hard Reset, everything worked fine. I didn't really lose anything, since I installed V10 this morning.
I like the performance on the ROM. Feels lighter and faster. The only thing I don't like much is the GUI customization, more specifically the inability to switch back to the default theme. The loading intro screen is DEAD SEXY, though.
The lack of camera kind of sucks, but we all know how hit-and-miss camera has been on Vogue Android development, so it's understandable.
strange, im running nfsfans v10 rom and ran this as well and wm wasnt affected whatsoever.

use the different initrd that vilord posted in the other thread. There's one that has bigger type/icons etc

I built this version as I was tired of the same old android look. I may post a default theme later, after band of brothers is done

It's a real hit and miss thing. Some phones are good and some aren't. I wish I could say for sure what it is.

Thanks, looks a bit better.
I'm also getting lines across my screen, very small and kind of flashing. Is that a cupcake issue, or something on my part?
could be maybe related to panel type? I'm not sure... try setting panel type to 0 in default.txt
Thanks mssmison, is working great for me with DZO's 128mb data.img.
Would love to see a standard themed version though.
Will let you know how battery life goes. Had wake up issues with original power options so changed them to match yours.
Cheers
i love my hero, but the boot process couldnt be any slower..
And its very frustrating that it loads with a black screen and a animated gif, when i would like to know exactly what its currently loading, like a verbose boot.
On Mac OS X, when booting the computer one can hold command-V for verbose mode, witch looks pretty much exactly the same as most linux distro bootups, a long list of text feedback (loading part one... done. loading part 2... done. and so on)
so is it possible to add this feature (or enable it) on the modaco rom?
..i know it wont speed up the boot process, i´dd guess it would even make it longer, but it wouldnt feel as long if i could follow the boot process.
i second that, verbose boot would be cool. and would boost the geek factor at least by +7
i just realized that i could replace the animated gifs with custom ones, faking a verbose boot.
This could be quite funny..
like:
Boot -IEX [da=x2ar4] -V
Boot sequence starting...
Loading virtual enviroments... done!
Loading customized data... done!
Loading nuclear powercell... done!
Loading self destruct sequence... ERROR! no path to detonator
Loading done!
Configuring enviroments... done!
Configuring networks... done!
Configuring hack tools... done!
Retrieving access codes... done!
Configuring free internet access... done!
Configuring done!
Writing random IEMI... done!
Disabling remote tracking/bugging capabilities... done!
decrypting private user data... done!
Boot sequence completed!
>quickly displaying a snapshot of home screen<
>change to blue screen with text<: "Keyboard was not found, press F1 to continiue..."
now i just have to find a gif animating app for mac..
lol i like that idea. sounds would be possible also.
animating gifs is pretty easy with GIMP, if that is available for mac.
edit: i'm still interested in a solution for actually verbosing the boot sequence.
lol i threw together a rough proof-of-concept. use it as a regular update.zip if you want to try it. it is not good, it loops several times, timing is bad, text is no fun. but it works
as always no responsibilty for phones turned into gremlins, make a nandroid before, yadayadayada you know the deal.
you can also extract the boot.gif from the zip and drag&drop it into firefox to see what happens.
edit: took it down, nobody wanted it, was crap anyway. see a few posts down, did a better version.
just a heads-up: i am actually working on this. might take a few days, but i will try to make something at least decent looking... every help is welcome, especially with graphics. i could use a background, maybe some sort of grid. and if someone has or is willing to make something that acts as a movie-style fingerprint scanner, that would be awesome

I don't have them but I know of a few places I've seen fingerprint things lately:
http://lock2.wordpress.com/2009/07/27/ancient-system/
http://instinct-software.com/2009/02/pretend-fingerprint-scanner/ (near the bottom of the page is a larger screenshot)
yeah i found these also, not really glad with them though. i thought of something anymated, like a green glowing fingerprint with a "scanning" redish-glowing bar in front of it...
i decied to make this a new topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582336
nevertheless i want to know how to get the console output on screen during bootup, so please make this thread a success

BUMP.
I'd like to know that too. Just like the good old linux boot would be nice.

I think this is great news. We now have an android port with the touch screen drivers working.
NO, this is not a complete android port!!!!
You can only boot into Android for up to 5 or 6 minutes before you get a Blue Screen error.
Instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6999432&postcount=2267
3 Step instructions [thanks cjmdaniels ]:
1. Downloaded the latest release with touch drivers found here: http://media2a.com/android/Android_Boot_Test_TS.zip.
2. Unzip all files to storage card root.
3. In your file explorer, go to your SD card root and run HARET.EXE.

I'm not complaining... not at all. I'm really happy at this time... And it is really super fast.
Tried it again and I was now able to load android, skip the setup, open phone, hit the home (hardware) button to go to home, open google maps (no map showed up of course), close it, pull down the notification bar, open the menu, scroll up and down the program list etc.
THANK YOU everyone who was involved. I really wish I had done some linux programming so I could help the devs instead of 10 years of windows and web development.
I'm so looking forward to more drivers.

I got this working on my Stock t-mo USA ROM with the Stock t-mo USA Radio.
This is NOT a ROM, it will NOT replace any files on your HD2.
You DO NOT need HSPL for this.
You are just loading linux (android) from your windows OS.
If you want to go back to windows, you'll have to do a soft reset (take out battery or press the yellow/red reset button).
It will not work each time, I had to run Haret.exe 3 times before I could get into Android.
OP,
I'll be hovering around this thread like a vulture. Thanks. Subscribed to it.
Cheers.
Add my 3 minutes to yours!!!!
I had to try it a couple of times before I got it to boot up. Nice! It froze on me when I was playing around with the dialer.
Very impressive work done by the XDA team! Can't wait for more functionality. I love WinMo but the idea of being able to dual boot WinMo or Android is just too awesome!
Edit: Stock T-Mo (USA) ROM (2.13)
Radio: 2.10.50.26
I am uploading a quick video to Youtube now. I guess after the first boot (which I had for ten minutes!) then the blue screen, evertime after when you get to the lock screen you try to unlock and it hits the blue screen. Guess you have to delete and try again. Post up in a minute.
Not as far as I got the first time but here is the first video try.

The first boot up took forever and I thought it had hung up. The second boot locked up at the dialer, the third boot gave me a bit more time but I think honestly, you're not going to get more than 5 or so minutes before something hangs up.
Uploading Part 2 now. Shows a little more of Android working

You do not have to delete anything...when you boot into the lock screen, just hit the windows hard key at the bottom...it will go to the android home screen.
Awesome.
great work. project started off slowly but it's not certainly starting to pick up some steam.
Insane, I posted on cyanogenmod's forums as well to ask if there were any plans to port cyanogenmod to htc hd 2 once android is running but i digress. Android on HTC HD2 wins so hard!

Hey guys, looked around the forums and found nothing on this so.... I saw in a few videos the screen transition between homescreens on the droid 3 is hella nice. Would we be able to use it from just a system dump? Also, is it possible to add fly-in menu effects and other animations like from greyblur? (on stock)

If you are a dev and want to spend time porting it, then sure it's possible.
Most users / devs on here hate motoblur and won't spend a minute of their time porting it until we have vanilla android and CM7 (which is work-in-progress) at the moment.
p.s. this has been asked before, you shoulda searched.
It s easy you can find animation in folder system/framework/framework-res.alk/res/anim and copy
Hello,
I am a new G2 owner (moved up after my trusty Nokia N97 was pickpocketed and boy was I living in the past there with Symbian).
So far. I've installed CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0 BETA 5, flashed the Beta 7 Kernel and ran the Supercharger v6 script and am very happy with the results, I just have some hopefully, very easy to answer n00bish questions that I think relate to this mod specifically, so excuse me if the questions seem silly...
1. How do I turn off the cyonogen boot animation, I cant for the life of me find the option in settings!
2. Is there any way to stop my phone vibrating when unlocking from sleep. Again, this may be obvious to all, but I reallly cant find this particular option, after a few days tinkering with the phone.
3. Customising the keyboard, I've seen threads with specific custom keyboards, but is there anyway I can customize my keyboard with this mod to use the custom buttons on my physical keyboard (I'd love to be able to make one of these buttons skip to the next song for example on the default music player....
Thanks
Richard.

I'm not experienced in cyanogen but if there is no option to disable boot animation, you can flash a stock one
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Take a look in performance options for boot animation. Not running cm9 currently so not entirely sure.
Sent from my Desire Z using xda premium
Thats not questions of begginer
Boot animation you can change with some zip package, you can find them somwhere here or you can install another rom which provides changing boot screen. I believe aokp has this. There are no options for disabling vibrate by unlocking Im affraid. And I leave the last question without answer, because I dont know anything about this stuff.
Sent from potato
havent used this rom yet so im not sure if there specific settings for any of these
1: if there is no option you can flash a different one (4ext recovery has an easy way) there are many .zips that can be found all over xda you can flash. or you can get romtoolbox from the market (paid and free) here you can also easily change it along with many things in your rom
2. again havent used this rom so your question may be answered better by the developer, many other roms dont do this so if you get to annoyed there are many other choices
3. just like #2 there are ways but if its not listed as an option under settings than it may be a bit too difficult - may need to try out other roms that have this as a built in function
4. dont know why im bothering to answer this for i obviously dont have answers for you
You really shouldn't be using a non-stable aftermarket rom. Move over to Cyanogen 7.1 Stable if you value your sanity. Beta class roms are not usable as daily drivers and you will encounter gamebreaking bugs.
As to address your specific questions:
1: You cannot disable boot animations directly. You can replace the file, located in system>media>bootanimation.zip or delete it completely. Note: this location is relevant for Gingerbread roms, I do not know the location in ICS based roms.
2: I haven't ever encountered this design decision but it sounds dumber than a cat jumping into molasses. I swear to god some people should not be coding for a hobby.
3: Remapping keyboard keys to do the custom functions that you're requesting is not possible without detailed technical knowledge of the code interface. Do not attempt it. Learn to live with holding down the volume rocker to switch songs.
Flashed back to andromadus testing and the feature to disable boot animation is indeed in setting>performance. It may not be there in cm9 beta. You can always jump ship to either andro build. They are both very good.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
I perhaps did jump in at the deep end with a beta mod but other than my minor issues I've been very happy with what seems a very stable beta...
I will indeed look up some custom boot animations but its a shame about the unlock/vibrate issue (my boss sits close to me so its not ideal for me when I'm trying to be discreet!)
With regards to wanting a keyboard button to 'skip to next track'; the main reason i wanted it was for when i have the phone plugged into an fm transmitter while driving....having a button to press (like the dpad on the nokia n97) means i can change songs easily without looking....unless i find a better solution, Real Player Beta has a rather large and clear lock screen which isn't so bad, I'm getting better at skipping songs using touch screen without looking (or crashing).
Thanks again, loving this phone, largely to do with all the advice I'm reading here.
