Is anyone else having a low volume problem on there mic level input? A lot of people tell me they cant hear me on the phone and that my voice is hard to hear. I have found the fix if this happens to you.
I'm not sure if it is the files they are using in the roms or the Loud Volume Hack I tried to use but I was able to get a hold of these files and it fixed it for me. I'm now heard loud and clear.
Delete the old files found on System/etc and replace it with the 3 files found in the zip below. You will need to reboot for the changes to take place...
Is this reversable via nandroid restore? Just checking.

Of course it is. Any changes in the filesystem can be restored via nandroid.
Right on. I tried to do this with Astro File Manager and was unable to delete those system files.
Did you do this through adb? Or maybe a different file manager?
I'm asking because I too have the mic issue with CM6 and would like to test this out.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!
I used root explorer. Make sure you select read/write and not read only. Delete the files and replace them with the ones on the zip. If you want to reverse the changes you can either nandroid back or pull the files out of the CM6 zip and replace them.
Everyone can hear me much better now which is so much better than having to repeat myself so many Damn times.
I'm supprised I am one of only ones that had this issue...
I did. But I have louder volume hack to fix it. Lol

Doesn't LVH just adjust your speaker levels? And not your mic levels?
Yes LVH is just for speaker and bluetooth volume. I've found no mic adjustments.

The LVH is the reason why it screws up your mic level. It wasnt made for the hero and you will notice putting it back to stock doesnt actually return the correct files for our device. Keep using it and you will see your mic level will be low.
Actually, mic level is controlled by in call volume. If you use the in call volume on lvh, and then turn down your volume because it is too loud in the ear piece, that's when you lose mic level. And lvh has a backup/restore optionif you don't trust the stock button, but the stock button has worked fine for me. All lvh does is replace the files that are basically the graphic equalizer settings.

Yes it is true that the call volume effects the mic level. I have tried this numerous times. The stock profile was made for the Deisre or some other phone I forgot which. Therefore it doesnt work perfect for the Hero. I have used my backed up profile and it still didnt work right for me either. I ran accross this info on the forum where the guy made the LVH app. Thats where I was able to get too understand why it wont work correctly on our phone.
Dont believe me play your music at its loudest through the stock settings (untouched by LVH), then add LVH and listen to it (much louder). Now try to go back to stock and tell me there isnt a difference between the way it sounds compared to the files I've attached. The Mic level will go up as well. Believe me I have done this 10 times or so to make sure I wasnt crazy.
Its either that or the sound profile (equilizer files) that came with CM6 isnt as good as the ones I used.
I have messed with this a bunch of times and got info that the sound profile included in the "stock" setting wasnt made for our phone.
This was my experience...Maybe yours was different.
I just got a Motorola S9-HD BT headset and it at its loudest is on par with a normal set of headphones at 75%, would the LVH work for this or will it just screw up the other sound settings.
You can adjust bluetooth only with LVH
I'm confused
I've had issues with the mic being to low on CM6. Should I be looking this fix or LVH to correct it?

Just do what I said in the first post and you will have a much improved Mic level. LVH doesnt have a setting for the MIC.
I'll check it out. Thanks!
Thank you for this!! My g/f was always complaining that I was difficult to hear and I thought she might have been talking about the call quality.. This fix helped quite a bit and I don't hear any more complaining, just a much more quality conversation instead of, "what?" all the time.
I know on some other Android phone's (e.g. G1 http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/volume-increase-hack-found-18107/), a software modification has allowed for much higher volume.
Not sure if actually increases the speaker volume as well, or just through headphones?
+1 for the speaker!
Agree! The speaker is WAY too low!!!
/CK
+1 here too
It would be nice, the speaker is crazy quiet.
i wonder wot the reason was for them to keep it at that level of sound and is way to queit
Or it possible use the front speaker for avi/video/streaming?

It seems everyone has the low volume speakers.
I noticed that Angry Birds seems to be a little bit louder than other things.
Anyway, I highly urge everyone that thinks this is a problem to give this feedback to the HTC customer support. Obviously this is the only way to get an official fix for this quicker, if at all.
Wonder if the speaker can handle a increase in max volume.
Anyway, aren't there hidden service menus on the Desire HD that can be triggered with a phone code? In the service menus of a phone there are always some nice parameters to tweak.
I tried some general codes, but none of them seems to work (except the *#*#INFO#*#* of course, but that's a general hidden android menu... even works on the emulator)
until we get access to the rom via Bootloader, there is no general tweak we can do.
However, just for music, try PowerAmp from the market. It has a great pre-amp setting to boost the volume (be careful not to blow your speakers though)
We want increasement in the general speaker volume... Not just music

You can do that, but you will need a script to do that at every launch, since /system write is not permanent.
Furthermore, after each time you adb push the files, you need to restart mediaserver in order pull in the new settings.
Last but not least, you will need to modify the DHD audiopara, since the G2 might not work well.

I experienced the same, missing calls because the damn volume is just too low!
Also, when you use the speakers when having a phone call, you can't even hear the person unless you're in an absolutely quiet room... The same goes for music, youtube, navigation..... Anything!!!??!?

I returned mine because of the low speaker volume. I was missing 99% of calls because I couldn't hear the phone ringing. In my business I just can't afford to miss calls. As I sold my normal desire to get this phone I had to buy an Orange San Francisco to use till something else comes along.
I was playing with a friend's Nokia N8 & have to say the speaker quality & loundness is outstanding on it. Also used as a phone its much better than the DHD. Shame the OS is a bit dodgy.
speaker
I am not sure if you are speaking about speakers of DHD in general or just about external. Well, Ive sent back my DHD to Vodafone because call speaker was so useless that I could not even hear other person when I had TV on. Hopefully it was just one bad piece but its apparent that HTC fcked up DHD with poor quality speakers in general. I am waiting for my phone replacement and even when I know that it would be hard to say DHD goodbye I am afraid Ill have to if speaker quality will be that bad again

Why don't we use this... compile libaudioflinger and DSP Manager, in which we can set presets (you can +10 every channel of sound, so it comes out 10x louder).
Good luck compiling... I couldn't find an example
http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_frameworks_base <-- libaudioflinger is in /libs/ (yes it's default in Cyanogenmod)
http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_DSPManager DSP Manager android application, yes everyone should be able to compile this one
Hi all,
I've always felt that when playing music on my DHD that it's too quiet, when I've listened to music through my headphones I would say it's acceptable however when I've plugged my DHD into a HiFi or into my stereo in my car I could crank the volume to full control without it been deafening. I happen to find a fix yesterday by accident, I had my DHD plugged into my car stereo and the phone rang, I pulled the audio cable out and answered the phone, when I was done I put the cable back in and immediately I was like WTF just happened now, the music was much louder than what it was before I answered the phone, I would say it was about 30% louder.
I tested my theory by stopping the music and unplugging the cable, plugged the cable back in and started the music, while it was playing I opened the phone and simply dialled any random number and ended the call immediately, when it went back to the music it was most certainly much louder. I've tried it several times now and every time it makes it much louder than what it was before I make a call, I can now no longer turn the stereo full blast as it is simply too loud, just by turning it up to half way I would say it's the equivalent of what it was before when I had it turned up to the maximum.
I'm using Poweramp and I don't know if it's got anything to do with that, I will test it with the built in music player and see what it does. I originally downloaded Poweramp as I thought that the built in music player may be the problem.
i'll repet what you do and post some results... really want a louder volumen in headphones. I plugged my headphone in a Wildfire and it's incredible louder, no talking about an ipod! last week in a party i was ashamed when my friend put off his $50 cell phone and i plugged mine on stereo, so low volume....
wtf, that's true.. really don't understand what the phone turns on!! probably the same thing that volume boost turns on!!
Aha that actually works

Interesting find.
I've noticed a couple of ROMS which suggest better audio volume by 20%.
For example this one. (Speaker Boost +20%)
So somehow, somewhere the bug or issue has been fixed or improved.

Not really, i'm using that rom right now, and what it makes is improve SPEAKER volume, not from headphone. I made my tests in Android Revolution rom and can confirm that headphone is as quiet as stock rom, and it is improved by the "call trick"!
Thanks for sharing! I was experimenting a bit, and it seems like the simplest way to boost the volume is to make a call while music is already playing. The call MUST connect though, or the volume will revert to normal levels. Tested with Winamp.
Maybe have one of the dev's ask to look into this.
If this is different from the already increased speaker volume output, it probably is a bug that can be fixed / feature that can be 'un-featured'
works fine
I had similar experience with my laptop. When listening a mp3 file, the sound coming out from my laptop seems like no effects, standard sound without bass and treble effect. Have to play a movie file first together and stop the.movie make the song hear with the effect.
I believe this issue coming from my sound driver. Using another OS in same laptop. The sound play normally with no issue.
For our Android, it's about the sound driver too?
well well, i just noticed that in the Android Revolution 4 (leaked gingerbread based), the sound is improved by default, no needing the call workaround, looks like HTC fixed the strange bug for the next version...
i just wanted to share!
edit: if someone could try to confirm it, i'll appreciate! =o)

I had the same problem, go to the Market and download "Volume Ace".
MarkieSA, you're an accident hero.
I noticed sometimes my DHD volume suddenly were loud . If I restart the phone, it will go low . I couldn't find out how to make it loud again until reading your post. I'm using PowerAmp too . I think it plays a role in this case.
Thank you for this great finding.
Really useful little trick for 2.2 users, especially for peeps using stock ROM's without the 20% boost via custom kernels. I had tried some of the volume boost type apps before rooting but all they do is invert the phase of one of the stereo channels. All this does is give you a very tinny mono output which is no use to say the least.

Using my Motorola Elite Sliver, Bluetooth sound has been just fine. Phone call clarity has been great; significantly better than my DNA.
Posted about this a while back on the Nexus 4 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44130362
It's -super- irritating, and I believe this is a bug in all recent android versions (after 4.1 I think) with the new bluetooth implementation. I was hoping we'd find a way to 'fix' it in a similar manner, but I have no experience developing for non-nexus devices. I'm glad someone else notices the crackle though, it's annoying to the point where I won't listen to audio over the G2's bluetooth anymore.
Just gonna wake this back up to see if anyone else has any ideas on what we can do here.... this issue blows on newer Android phones and we ought to be able to find a way to fix it ^^

I read through the thread you linked and it looks like you fixed the issue on stock Android ROMs. I have the AT&T D800 running CleanROM XE, also had the issue on stock G2 ROM.
I wanted to offer to test anything you came up with. I connect to a 2011 Hyundai daily and stream Pandora and XiiaLive.
Thanks in advance.
I ran into this as well, although I've only tried Soundcloud, Pandora and Google Music. Pandora is the only app in that list that has issues. Soundcloud and Google sound fine.

I actually found it sounds better on bluetooth than my old Rezound and my wife's DNA do. In wife's car, songs on bluetooth (any app) have an echo/hall effect. The G2 is the first phone that sounds normal with no echo. Plus, the song info is finally displaying properly on the screen. Just wish my car had bluetooth because then I wouldn't have to deal with the thumping sound I hear while plugged in via the aux/headphone jack and changing tracks. I have another thread here regarding the thumping noise.
Enable aptx. Bluetooth had been nice and clear for me even before doing so.

How do you do that? Is there a menu/switch for that?
Prop command in terminal emulator. Is around here on forum in another bt thread. Most variants aren't enabled out of the box. Hell, Verizon didn't even have the logo on the box.

Saw that thread. Figured that if the G2 was already set up for that, then you shouldn't have to go through superuser and ADB to make it work. I mean, if it is an advertised feature then it should be easier to activate. What am I missing here?
I went ahead and enabled aptx a few weeks ago to test it out... either my headunit doesn't support it or it doesn't seem to make much of a difference on my end as I still have the crackly highs as I did before. This was the same issue that I had on my Nexus 4 that I was able to fix by tweaking the sbc bitrate... I'm just not sure how to do that in the source code on this phone. (or if that's even possible here)
Could someone please link the thread to enable aptx? I am unable to find it or how to do it.
Or at least tell us here how to do it?
I am also getting the crackling over bluetooth, when plugged into an aux jack the sound is amazing, over bt not so much. Also track data is really wonky, it rarely works. When the track changes it shows the song info for a split second then says unknown. I've never had a problem with the track data in my car and this is the 4th device I have used in this car. This is a link I ran across for enabling aptx, don't know if it works I'm not rooted yet.

Just to pitch in -- I get the same crackling on music. Driving me nuts.
When I play music over my car stereo it's great. When I call using sync the person on the other side said it sounds like a whining noise for the entire call. The whining does fluctuate from moderate to extremely loud.

This sounds like a ground issue in your car maybe? Does it change pitch with engine rpm? Mine sounds like when your stereo is up too loud and the bass distorts, except it's only distorting for high's. Much more noticeable when listening to rock or something with a lot of cymbals. Rap/hip hop sounds fine (not really any high's there). Enabling aptx doesn't sound like a solution here, why would enabling a premium sound feature correct this when other devices I have used that don't have aptx sound better than my G2? Not trying to ridicule here just trying to keep the ball rolling. I really believe this is an issue with phone or bt antenna or something.
So both my speakers seem to work fine when playing media, but I just noticed that only one speaker (the bottom one) works when using speaker phone. Is this normal?

Seems to be. My phone does that.
Seems normal...
seriously hope this is something that can be hacked. would love to have both speakers functional during a speaker phone call... especially when in the car.
I seem to have sound from both speakers while on speaker phone but the bottom is much louder. Guess also it's because it's not stereo. Both speakers are equally loud while listening to music.
Same for me, on speakerphone I only get the bottom speaker but I get both in normal media playback. Glad it's not just me.
It's annoying because the speakerphone volume in a car is pretty low, and it could potentially be twice as loud with both speakers.
Same here chaps
Same problem here also
My Nexus 6p does exactly the same thing, only one speaker works, the bottom one when using the speaker phone and even in Skype.
I hope this is not intentional and will be changed.
This is also happening on Moto X Pure so it might be an Android feature to disable stereo during speakerphone.

I'm pretty sure it's already been done, it's a mixerpaths.xml edit. It's in one of the threads created here already; you'll have to do some searching to find it. It's never really bothered me though since I don't use the speakerphone function very often, and when I do it sounds loud enough to me with a single speaker.

I might have been mistaken, or remembered readings something differently. If you are seeking more volume when on speakerphone, then you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/mod-boost-call-handset-volume-t3329419
My Axon 7 uses both speakers during speakerphone calls.
