Hello all,
I had my samsung fascinate rooted but went and did the update that verizon pushed out. now of course the root no longer works. I tried to re-root it using the same instructions i followed the first time; no good. I also tried z4 root but that also didnt do it.
does anyone have any ideas?
I am thinking of doing a factory reset an starting all over again.
Been covered in several other threads. Did you even bother to search or read any of the threads about this?

Thanks ivorycruncher for the feedback.
The solution you gave seems a bit complicated for this novice user.
do you have any instructions for doing this on a Mac?
1. Use Bootcamp to install Windows on your Mac
2. Refer to my previous post
Please search around this forum and the dev forum a bit. The answers you're looking for have been posted already.
Rhetorical question of the day: Does anybody other than me find it curious that there are so many Mac users here trying to hack Android phones instead of worshiping the iPhone?
I can't get the link from my phone but when I first rooted my Fascinate I did it from my Mac WITHOUT using bootcamp (although I do have a Windows partition). There was a tutorial I followed which was stickied on Android Central that I assume is still there somewhere.
It's the original method using adb and rage.bin (not sure what the "official" name for it is) and is simple enough if you can enter some basic key commands.
Sent from my Voodoo5/Blackhole3.0 Fascinate
Unfortunately that method no longer works with DL09, because they plugged the hole that rage.bin exploited. The easiest method to root now (that I'm aware of) is to flash CWM from ODIN, and then use ADB to push the such and busybox files manually. Unfortunately, ODIN only works on PCs.
Posted from my DL09 SuperClean Fascinate with Voodoo
The rage method on mac still works with dl09. Did it last week
Hmm, that's weird. Maybe the Mac version was different than the PC version? All I know is that the original rage.bin did not work from my PC after updating to DL09 via the OTA.

Can someone please help me out. I've tried to get the OTA for DL09 all day, and every time it errors out. I'm rooted but I'm running completely stock with the exception of launcher pro plus. I can't just flash the files through odin because I don't have a PC, just a mac.
can I just remove the SU file from the xbin folder using root explorer? I'm assuming that I can't update because of the root and CWM?
Don't you have a friend with a pc? You may need a pc if you unroot to root the second time.. I had to use adb when I rooted the second time
Rocking dj05 and jt's voodoo 5
Make sure u aren't using wifi to pull the update. 3G ONLY. Being rooted shouldn't cause error problems with the download??? U are rooted....I would follow the instructions for the leak DL09 since u will have to reroot anyway.

I rooted through terminal on my mac the first time, is there a way to unroot by opening a shell through terminal again?.
my fiance has a pc, but she took it with her for her overnight shift at work..

yeah, i'm on 3g I made sure of that. the download happens fine, it just errors out when it tries to install the update.
Follow the Mac instructions in this thread:

In terms of getting the OTA, I read that CWM is what is stopping you from updating.
so I unrooted my phone last night and reverted it back to stock as much as i could, but CWM was still installed (it worked when I selected "update.zip" from the stock recovery) I have no idea how to get rid of it if that's the actual cause of my problems. the OTA still won't work when it goes to install the download.
My only thought as what may also be wrong is after I rooted I had installed adblocker and thought it may have been messing up my phone, so i uninstalled the app.. problem was, that i still don't see any ads in any of my apps. Could the adblocker have done something to my system enough to screw up the OTA?
thanks to those who have responded so far, does anyone have any other thoughts on why this is happening or how I can fix it? please?
If you have CWM you have to get rid of it. You do this by flashing the stock recovery and kernel from fallingup's "return to stock"thread I the development forum
Get Odin, download the official DL09 from this site and do it that way. Odin wipes CWM, and the official DL09 has the kernel, fs, recovery and modem in one.
okay, i'll have to commandere the fiance's laptop when i get home and download odin. Thank you for the help guys! hopefully after i get it back to stock, the OTA will work.. if not, I'm going to replace the phone at VZW.

If you haven't moved any of the bloat (or have already moved it back) then all you need to do is flash the kernel and recovery found here. The links in the OP seem to be down, so just follow those and you should be good. Had to do it to my wife's Fascinate yesterday for the OTA to take
just an update, used odin to flash back to stock DI01 and was able to download the OTA for DL09. Now i"m running DL09, and have already re-rooted using adb on my mac, and installed CWM. now to move on to some of these better non-voodoo kernel's! FINALLY!
Thanks for all your help guys! very much appreciated!
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Prior to OTA 2.2.1 had my DX rooted for tethering, but forgot to unroot this week before finally running the update that VZn pushed out. Now when i try to root with any method i can find info on, the rageagainstthecage process gets me to a point where rooting stops. Using ADB shows the DX is connected but offline and the whole process just stops there. Rebooting the DX is the only way to start all over again with the same results. Have seen some posts that maybe the later OTA was different than the earlier one and thats why some are having rooting issues. btw, was using pc mode and debug enabled.
I Sure do miss that tethering!

Find the APK file for Z4 root and give it a go that way or Superoneclick has always worked for me. Just make sure you have the latest drivers from Motorolla for your phone and PC OS. It's far easier then rageagainstthecage.
Thanks, some of the things I've tried... Z4 all 3 editions, they dont hang and run through as if there sucessful, but when the X reboots and i try running an app like root explorer. It says phone not rooted. Super1click gets stuck in a loop and using adb devices, shows device connected but offline. Rebooting phone is the only way out. I Just can't see what im missing here, other than I should have unrooted b4 the OTA update.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to find the right post. I have to admit it was a very different approach to finally being able to get RW access to the file system & then using a terminal emulator to delete the old Superuser.apk at 1st try i couldn't get rm superuser.apk to work (no such file or dir) then it hit me its case sesitive. 2nd try & it went away.
Finally rooted again & Tethered!

is there any way on how to root the vibrant on android 2.2?? im trying to root it to put stock android
As far as I know you don't need to root your device to flash rom, just use stock rom .tar file and flash it with Odin; works for me while changing from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2.
And if you want to root your Vibrant anyway, use One Click Root.
That would definitely be the easiest way is to odin back to 2.1, and then root using one click root/unroot program. That's what I done. Took all the guess work out of it all, and I'm currently running Bionix 1.2......sooooooo much better than stock 2.2
is there a video on how to use odin??
MIght want to start here.
http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...ome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+flash+vibrant+with+odin
i did this, but im not sure if they are showing how to flash it back to 2.1 or not

Click on Superuser in my signature and download it. Put it as update.zip on your internal SD card and boot into recovery. Hit reinstall packages, let it cycle through and hit is again. Reboot and check for Superuser.apk in your app drawer. Go to market and update it. Might have to user the update fixer too.
See the Noob Guide stickied in the Q&A section for more info.

You can't root 2.2 on Vibrant by using the normal update.zip method. I forget exactly why, but it has something to do with Samsung changing the recovery verision from 2e to 3e or something like that.
A lot of the new people in the Vibrant forum don't know everything the original vibrant owners did, and a lot of the original Vibrant owners are no longer in this forum. Moved on to new phones.
Anyway, if you want to root 2.2 you can just make life easy and go into the dev section and find "rooted deodexed stock 2.2 kb5." Install that if you want a stock rooted 2.2.
However, to go back to 2.1 eclair, you don't need to be rooted. Just use odin to go back to 2.1. Just make sure if you have voodoo installed that you disable it first.
odin is easy and safe to use, as long as you put the pit file in the pit section, the tar file in the tar section, and you don't mess with anything else that is unnecessary.

I rooted on a 2.2 but now that I think of it, my ROM was from Cincinnati Bell and not T-Mobile.
Superoneclick has never worked for me on any phone but has worked for many others. YMMV Best bet though is to get the ROM Samsungvibrant mentioned above and use that, or flash any number of other ROMs out there.
t959uvkb5 froyo 2.2 rooted sucessfully

True. Unless you don't do your research, you can brick your phone. And even if you do, you can still unbrick. I did this every once in a while for fun (I know, bad idea, but I wanted to test it).

You can't always unbrick, trust me. I've bricked a Vibrant, and a SGSII.. there are things you can do with odin that are only recovery by HARDWARE jtaging your device (because it's hard bricked).
thanks.i was searching for this.. i am using custom rom and i know that one day i will want to turn to stock rom
I wanted to root my Vibrant (SGH-T959), which was on FROYO.UVKB5 as updated via Samsung Kies.
The latest versions of Superuser wouldnt root it, but the older version Superuser 1.9.1 would (you will get an error the first time. Retry and the root will complete).
Ok,
I feel like a total noob. I'm a droid incredible owner and could tell you everything about rooting and modding an Incredible. My wife owns a D2. Since our counteract is nearing the end, I would like to root it for her. This way if I mess it up, or more likely, she messes it up, she can upgrade.
I have done some reading, but HTC and Moto are VERY different. I need a few pointers before I begin. I've read about SBF. I don't even know what that is. So I'm a total noob when it comes to Moto.
I can tell you with my Dinc, I was able to download unrevoked on my Mac, and it basically did the work for me. It took about 5 minutes, and boom it was rooted. I have CWR installed and can flash any Rom/Kernel I want. Same thing on my Nook color. Been back and forth with CM7 and MIUI for it.
Basically, I need a beginners guide to rooting the D2, with all the vocab defined for me. Can anyone spell it out for me or point me in the right direction? I really just want to give her Titanium backup and wireless tether for her work iPad.
It is updated with the latest Gingerbread OTA, and I know with the Dinc, if you weren't rooted with S-off before the OTA, it is now impossible to Root it. From what I read, that doesn't appear to be the case with the D2
I use a older 1click root app called z4root which works fine on froyo. If shes on gingerbread theres a newer app called superoneclick, which can currently be found on xda's home page. Not sure how it works exactly but it does work for the d2. Good luck hope this helps.

I'll have to check it out. She is on Gingerbread. Does z4root give you permanent root? Or does it revert back after a reboot? I'm curious if superoneclick is the same.
Here is the best way to root the phone, I've used it at least 15 times by now.

No need to go through the headache of SBFing just to root if he's on a clean install of Ginger Bread. On top of that he will have to set the phone up again and re-install all the old apps. That said, the OP may want to read up on SBFing just so he's clear on how it works.
Just google Droid 3 one click root and browse the rootzwiki result. I'd link it but I don't have enough posts yet.
Pete's Tools is literally as easy as it gets. Download the program, hook your phone to the PC though USB, select charge only, run the program, then click root. It literally is a one-click root.

IIRC, you don't need to SBF while doing this method. Only if you're downgrading to 2.3.2. Otherwise ADB doesn't care if you're clean or not.
SBFing was the first thing it mentioned on that link so I was thinking it was a necessary part of that method. Just didn't want the OP to have to mess with that unnecessarily.
So I've searched around the net, and am not 100% sure what to do. Here is my situation.
I "rooted" my phone awhile ago, or so I thought, but now despite having superuser and trying to do the fix and update for it, it doesn't work, and no app can gain root access, however when I try to run droid easy root, it says i'm already rooted.
I'm running GB with build # 4.5.1_57_DX5-35 (if that helps).
All I want to do is re-root or whatever and install a rom (miUi specifically) over the default gingerbread motoblur one. I'm on a Mac btw and don't know much about this stuff...Any help is appreciated.

use the zergrush (aka doomlord) method posted in my signature, should fix you right up
edit: eww just saw where you said you were on a mac, not sure if this will work for the mac, i know that superoneclick also now uses the zergrush method. perhaps there is a mac version of that.
I'll try it out using VMware fusion and my XP partition...Hopefully it works. Might have some questions on the process if there aren't detailed instructions. Thanks.
