GUIDE : Dreaded Chevron unlocker issue

For all of you trying to instal WP7 and getting stuck at the dreaded chevron unlocker "Uh-OH" that will not let you pass, look no further. There are a lots of ifs and buts but no definite answer to it. Below method worked 100%.
I tried it multiple times. I in no way encourage you to use WP7 and unlocking procedures but heres simply what you do if you want to do
Instal Zune
Connect WP7-HD2
Click on the sync relationship below the picture of your LEO70
key in any name...i used HD7
Once connected, create a zune id...You can use your windows live id though
Goto settings ---date and time and uncheck automatic date VERY IMPORTANT
sync your phone...Check if port 443 is free that means no SKYPE or anything. Instal registry key in windows
Put chevron installer on root of C
Stop any antivirus & anti spyware IMPORTANT
Run chevron with administrative controls
Make sure before running chevron that Wp7 is Screen on and not keypad locked. Make sure the white screen on zune is there clearly showing your phone model and name that you made.
I do NOT have the developers kit or tools installed.
I am on windows 7 64 bit
So this kills all speculations.
Hope you guys can get it to work.

I needed to disable my web proxy (Privoxy, in my case) for ChevronWP7 to work.
Note that you may need to reboot for proxy changes to be picked up by the Zune *service* (not the app).

I have got WinXP SP3 and it's not working on that ever after using your method.

DID you disable the auto time settings?
did you add the registry key?
Mind restarting the phone and the PC?

Do you see your phone in the Zune window or is it a shadow?
Uninstal zune....restart....instal zune...restart.
plug phone into a dufferent USB

I'm on XP to and i can't make chevron running. what do you mean about registry key? I have to add it on my computer?

Ok..some noob questions because every day i see new things here and to much info just confuse me... This guide will help me unlock (jailbreak) my phone without Activation from Microsoft?????
Or do i need to follow these instructions first following by the MS Activation:

There doesn't seem to be a cure-all for this issue.
I was able to get mine successfully unlocked yesterday almost by chance.
I had to keep going into Command Prompt (administrator mode), keying in c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc, and then executing "notepad hosts" and deleting the host file that the phone kept creating everytime I ran Chevron.
I also had my phone in airplane mode.
Today, I decided to blow up the phone with Task29 and reflash WP7 to see if it helped my battery performance. Much to my chagrin, I was unable to duplicate whatever worked for me yesterday.
I'm back on Android until this is fixed with a known, proven solution for multiple users.

I accidentally relocked the device but It wont unlock againn???? What kind of justification is that. Now I cant go back to unlcoked mode now.!!! Please help. Tried all of the above.

how did you install the windows phone drivers because when I plug my phone on my computer ( windows Vista 32bit) it just say it just say installing that's it. Also i can't see the phone in Zune no matter what USB port i use or computer. Help would be greatly appreciated.

So to get this straight...to sync my images,music (ONLY!!!) I have to Activate my Phone with Microsoft??

Nothing I did would get it working with WinXP, I finally gave up and installed Win7 on a spare drive and it worked on the second or third go.

I think, I've finally found the reason why Chevron almost never works. After a few days of struggle, I managed to successfully unlock my HD2 three times in a row, all by the same trick.
The idea is to change the IP which Chevron emulates DURING the process of jailbreak. Here's step-by-step.
1 - Disable LAN card in your PC (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\ right click on "Local Area Connection" and choose "disable"). It is very important to disable ALL connections, but you MUST remember which one is used for Internet access (see below, why).
2 - Do all the standard steps of unlock - install certificate, start WPConnect e.t.s. When Chevron fails to unlock - LEAVE IT OPEN.
3. Start Notepad and open hosts. Delete lines added by Chevron (at the bottom). Save. LEAVE NOTEPAD OPEN.
4. Press Win+R and enter IPConfig /flushdns , press "enter". CMD window will blink for a second - that's normal.
5. Press Win+R again (there will be IPConfig /flushdns typed already), but DO NOT PRESS "ENTER", just leave this window open.
6. Now the trick. Start WPConnect. WHILE it connects, continue to repeatedly press "Unlock" button in Chevron, until the black CMD window of WPconnect disappears. Chevron will fail to do its job, but that's in fact is the very thing we need.
7. Now, do not touch Chevron window, just return to Network Connections and ENABLE yor LAN card.
8. Go to Notepad and JUST CLICK "Save", do not alter anything inside.
9. Return to the window with the typed command IPConfig /flushdns . Press Enter.
10. Start WPConnect, WAIT until it disappears, and press "Unlock" button in Chevron. You're done - this time unlock would work.
At least, it worked for me 3 times in a row, while NO other ways worked.

I have followed other guides posted here before, but none is as reliable as this one. Flawless. (Note that Zune is not required at all during this process, WPConnect is used)
Extra precautions :
1) Make sure port 443 is not used. You can open command prompt and type netstat -aon. From there, check which ip ends with 443 and check its PID number.
Once you have acquired the PID, go to command prompt and type tskill <PID number>.
2) Close skype.
3) Turn off your antivirus / firewall.
4) Make sure that during executing WPconnect.exe you're phone should NOT in be in sleep-mode/locked.
5) Make sure your host file located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ is not read-only.

WPconnect is an executable used to connect your PC to wp7 devices without having to open ZUNE.

As I click on WPConnect.exe it just blinks for 1 second an closes then. What am I doing wrong?!

Can you read what is says in the window before it closes? Usually WPconnect just opens for 2-3 seconds and after a connection is established it will close back. If it says "Connection is established" or something like that, means you're good to go.
Read the steps carefully.

Ahah, i remove WP7 from my device but i test WPConnect, got the same problem... So i made a quickscreenshot, to see the error message, this is it !!

Here's what i did, connect the phone to PC via USB, let zune opens and sync. Then close zune. Rune WPconnect.exe. It should say "Trying to establish a connection with blablabal" then "Connection established" and it will close. Try that.

You mean you dont have WP7 on your HD2 and you try WPconnect with it? That wont work. Anyways also make sure you're not in sleep mode or lock mode when you use wpconnect.

how was the setting on the phone? Language, region, flight-mode (on/off), wlan, date/time (automatic).

I'm from Russia. sorry for my english. stll, not working for me, i'v done all steps, but can't unlock my hd2.

I got so excited when I found this particular thread. Of all the hacks and mods for Chevron out there this one seemed to be the most realistic solution. I have to XP machines. I managed to install Windows Phone Development Tools on one(everything works except emulator and debuger) I downloaded the WPDTOctober2010Update_en.msp, and insured it installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe.(REBOOTED)
After I set up my HD2(again) Followed all the sugested settings, and downloaded Chevron cert via WIFI email. I began the steps on the 1st post.
1) I disabled all connections
2) I plugged in phone and through file explorer double clicked on WPConnect.exe and I got this error
" C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK's\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\WPConnect.exe is not a valid Win32 application."
I bet if I had WINDOWS 7 this would not be the case. Any help, advise solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

hello everyone, im haveing trubles with connecting my phone to my pc .... i intalled wp7 and activated it with registry code, then i instaled chevronwp7.cer on my phone (by sending it on my email, like manual says) ... problem is that im getting error messages when i run Chevronwp7 on my pc. it says that there is no zune running and there is no phone connected. but phone is plugged and zune is running (but it says that there is no device connected too) ... sooo ... does anyone have an idea about this ? thx

check your "device manager" (on windows) and look if there are some "unknown device" or some device in error state (i.e.: with an exclamation point)...
on what operating system are you running now? (please specify service pack level if there's one too..)

Activation is the very very last thing you should do. Just read the instructions carefully and follow the correct order and it should work fine.

anyway ... before activation i had same problem ... i thought that device will show after activating its os ... but its all the same ...

what a stupid queston of me ! ... what do to with "unknown device" ... instal driver ofc .. but then what to do ... i dont think i can handle all those "lock/unlock zune " posts... i dont know how to fix my certificats and my chevron .... it has problems :/

problably, the "unknown device" is your WP7 phone.
try this:
right click on it, then select "properties" and go to the "driver" tab.
then "update driver".
otherwise, go to te "details" tab (i'm not english, your translation may differs), i mean the last tab after "driver".
in the drop down menu select "Hardware ID", copy&paste the string appeared in "values"

see if you have relocking unlock problems, there is a simple and effective way of fixing it
firstly run in admin mode and then.....
"If at first you dont succeed try try try try again"
thats it really, i got the dreded oh-oh message so i just kept running it and eventually it worked.
So obviously get the cert on your phone and do the reg patch thingy to make it a HD7 get it connected to zune then keep trying the unlock took

does chevron start at all, and then gives you the message? or does it give it straight away? and do you have thedeveloper tools installed? try removing your device and then checking device manager.... then connect your device and search for changes.... see if that unknown device really IS your phone....

i am having a problem when installing the zune software on my computer..
the first time i install it, it has error opening up, so i uninstall it!
while reinstalling it for the second time or third time, it hangs in the downloading updates 100%... i waited it for 1hr still struck on the downloading updates!
or is there any other way that we can transfer my songs with zune?

1st qns: you'll need zune
2nd qns: there's no bluetooth file exchange
3rd qns: this forum is not the place for that and you should really buy apps
4th qns: WP7 runs from you sd card. you're using it all the time.

Most WP7 ROMs have updating bypassed. You cannot install updates.

i am unable to install the zune software... when i double click the installation file, it start to check for updates > downloading updates ... than struck at 100%..

Two things to try out...
1. Turn UAC off... It could be that it might be asking for Admin rights but stays stuck for some reason..
or
2. Try the install again but disconnect from the Internet like that it cant check/download for an update
Maybe antivirus software could be doing something wrong... So turn it off and see

what is UAC???
i believe when i uninstall the ZUne software.. there are still some remaining zune things inside... that why i struck in installation part...
i even try to install it in the SAVE MODE... also struck....

1. Download the zune package thru Microsoft.com [save it on your desktop] [one from microsoft]

2. Open the "Run" program by hitting "Start" typing "RUN" under start search and hit "Enter" key [or just press and hold "Windows key" + "R"]
3. A small window on the lower left of your screen should show up
4. Then, "Drag and Drop" the "ZunePackage47.exe" [file downloaded from mircosoft.com] towards the box on the "Run" program
[simply hold the left click on the "ZunePackage47.exe" then move you mouse towards the "Run" program then release the left click]
"if its successful you should have thepath/location of the file on the 'Run' program"
5. Then on the"Run" program, go to the very last part of the path after".exe" then add" " [space] followed by"/x"
it should show something like: "C:\[path or location of file]\ZunePackage47.exe /x"then click"OK"
6. Just follow the prompt messages and it will extract additional files and folders to you desktop
7. Afterwards go the folder [x86 orx64 (depends on you Operating System Type)] then access folder with a name "packages" and try to run the file "zune-x64" or "zune-x86" and if you recieve any error message just continue installing it. It should still install

I had my mango 7720.68 unlocked with chevron before but relocked it because i thought it was causing boot freeze.
Now it won't unlock, i've tried everything.
Cleared developer services in c:/windows/system32/drivers/host
Turn off firewall/anti-virus
Why would it previously work? Now its just

I had the same problem, but then I used the wp7 update cab sender and dev_unlock.cab which worked

custom ROM is already unlocked (BTTF and HD2O) but people not read instructions... chevron is useless for this ROM's

since it took some time for me to find out how to side load apps in WP7.5, I'll explain it to other noobs:
You need to install Zune, the .NET 4.0 Framework and Windows Phone SDK 7.1. Then install Phone7Market (you can find it here). It comes with the Phone7Market itself, from which you can download your .xap files and with the Phone7Deployer. Connect your HD2 via Zune, create a desktop shortcut for the Phone7Deployer, get your xap file you want to deploy (i.e. from the Phone7Market) and drag&drop it on your desktop shortcut. It won't harm to check the two boxes (remove drm and the other one). A few seconds later, you should find your app/game on your device.
btw, this is FREE, so you don't need to pay 9 bucks for chevron.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I can't help you with that since I don't have this error. The only two things that come to my mind: You need Windows Vista or 7 for the SDK and you should try a hard reset on your device (backup your data before of course).
