Last night I decided to switch off my HD2 to save some battery. What a critical mistake. In the morning the phone would't boot anymore. My wild guess is that you can't actually turn off your HD2, if you are on WP7.
I managed to find a workaround as I don't have a charging station at hand. That's how it works:
- Leave the phone off and connect it to your PC. Have a Win 6.5 CUSTOM ROM at hand. You will need a custom ROM because stock won't flash if your battery is less than 50%!
- With your phone connected switch in on while holding down "Vol Down". This way I was able go get to HSPL and stay there. It seems that if you enter HSPL with the phone connected to the PC it gets some power from there. If not connected to the PC my HD2 would immediately shut down!
- Flash your Win 6.5 ROM and charge fully.
- Go back to WP7, Android or whatever your heart desires
Easier solution, turn off, pull battery, replace. Simple. I found too that it didn't switch off properly (leave a usb cable plugged in & turn off) it just hangs on "Goodbye". Pulling the battery kills wp7, unless when you said "turned off my phone" you actually meant "turned off the screen" Obviously if you leave your phone in sleep overnight its gonna shed battery.
I have an HD2 I just bought, should be still under warranty (aside from running wp7 and random warranty-voiding stuff) and I am noticing an issue of when I totally kill it, it seemingly won't charge (or no charge light comes on at least) until I pull the battery out and put it back in. Also, I have noticed it doesn't power on from that state (light goes from orange to green) until I pull out the battery and put it back in. Is it just because I'm running WP7 and hardspl3 or radio 2.14.50... (or whatever recommended radio is for wp7). It's not a huge deal but it makes me curious. Also I get occasional restarts upon booting wp7 but it always boots into it (maybe 1 or 2 restarts every ten boots, and it seems to happen more after total kill). Just wondering if people are having similar issues.
WP7 is pretty cool, but I am wondering how many prefer 6.5? I'm an avid Android user (never ran 6.5 except on a Blackjack ii briefly, and yes, 6.5) and I was curious what you guys thought of wp6.5 vs wp7.
Lastly, I am wanting a magldr compatible sd version of a Desire HD ROM with sense and everything that isn't overclocked (I know there are some out there that are, ie DL.DesireZ 3.x).
Please advise.
It's not WP7, it is MAGLDR. MAGLDR does not have a software in it which allows the phone to charge when off.
My advice to you, never, ever, let your phone lose charge. A dead battery is a dead phone in our case, unless you have spare batteries.
I figured something like that. It's not going to botch the magldr flash though if it dies, is it? I would assume magldr is read-only or close to or something like that to where it can't corrupt itself.
I don't see why a dead battery can kill MAGLDR, it'll just leave your hd2 unable to turn on. However MAGLDR, I assume, isn't incorruptible. Well if you're afraid of corruption from leftover flashing, for whenever you want to flash WP7, Android or winmo, perform a task 29 first, flash MAGLDR, and then the OS. Well if it winmo, then a task 29, then simply flashing winmo and done.
Oh and the reason WP7 kept on rebooting on yours was because your sd card was incompatible. My advice is to reformat the sd card with panasonic formatter, full format btw, and then reinstall WP7. If that doesn't work, you just have to get a new card.
A MAGLDR SD desire hd version I know not of. Since NAND came out, SD development has died off so there are only a few developers that still strive in that forum.
Well it restarts hardly ever so I probably am not going to worry about it. It's the stock HD2 sd that came with the phone. The reason I want an sd build is because I want to dual boot.
I don't understand how I seem to be the only one who can charge in magldr.
I've drained my battery many times to the point where it doesn't turn on to calibrate using Android. Pulled battery, reinserted and connected wall charger. Orange light comes on which means it's picking up charge, leave it for a few minutes so it gets some residual charge in it, pull battery and charger, reinsert, boot up, then during boot process plug the charger back in and away you are, charging from scratch.
I too didnt have any problems charging dead batteries via MAGLDR.
Those who are can update to version 1.13 as its now got a workaround for it apparently.
I wasn't aware v13 was even out. Well it's not a big deal. Glad everyone is having this issue . This bug still beats having to wait 20 minutes for my stock Sammy Vibrant to boot up. Damn ridiculous.
Is your battery life worse on WP7 or WP6.5? I get roughly 8-10 hours. I'm surprised it burns that much electricity seeing as how all it is is some colored squares and no data connection or multitasking.
EDIT: Updated to MAGLDR ver. 1.13 without a hitch. Will see how this goes. For the record I was using 1.12.
I guess this is the fix:
"*Fixed Power-Off-Cable-Plug-Stop. Phone now detects this situation and reboots. Battery controller inside LEO needs runtime control during charge, it implemented in OS."
I could do it on the first version of magldr, as long as the Orange light comes on you're good to go, just leave to get some charge then pull everything reinsert turn on, simple...
I found the trick--MAGLDR V1.13
Plug the phone into a wall charger. Hold the call end button as soon as the phone comes on booting into MAGLDR. Let the phone stay at the MAGLDR menu screen for about 15 to 20 minutes. Restart the phone and leave it on the charger. It will have enough power to make it to the android home screen.
sorry for the delayed reply bro but i justr had this problem lately and know abt the fix for it... just go into magldr by pressing the power key for sumtime on bootup... after that plug in the wall adapter for about 20 - 30 minutes... havng done that remove the battery and insert it agiain w/o the charger... start the phone and let it go the main wp7 screen where it will stay for only about 20 seconds... quickly run to the settings menu and switch on airplane mode and put the brightness to the lowest setting... and quickly lock the screen... the phn will start charging fine... now leave it for an hour to charge and then adjust the brightness as u like and turn on airplane mode... it will work fine... take precautions for next time... there is a kind of an odd fix that was in forums...(sorry dont have the link)... when the wp7 is working go to the default camera and go to the video camera mode and switch back to the still camera and press the windows buttn to go to the main screen... the battery drainage is very less in this case and the stanby increases... cheers!
Hi, I installed Magldr 1.13 and windows phone 7 and accidentally left my battery flat. I tried charging it but it will cause an endless reboot, i will be stuck at HTC boot screen before it reboots again. I think magldr doesn't allow it to charge and I dont have enough power to boot into windows phone 7. Is there any other ways? I tried charging at the tri colour screen and magldr but the phone keep heating up. The endless reboot is causing it not to charge! =( Any ideas? Thanks
Its well known and documented that magldr prevents charging when off.
If you can borrow another phone, and the other phone has win mo you can use that to charge yours.
If you can only get access to another battery(or the other phone has magldr too),use that battery to flash yours back to winmo so that you can charge the dead battery from off.
If you can't borrow either, you are gonna need an external charger, or perhaps buy a cheap battery.
try this:
1. remove the battery for a minute or two
2. put the battery back inside
3. the phone should remain OFF, do not press any buttons, do not try to turn it on.
4. plug in the cable...see the orange light come on.
5. leave the phone like this for 10-15 minutes.
6. now turn it on and charge as usual.
tell us if this works.
NOTE: i thought cotulla fixed the battery-charging-while-off problem in magldr 1.13?
Just boot in magldr itself by holding powerbutton on start-up and let it charge in magldr that works.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Re: the above 2 posts.
No, the charge bug in magldr wasn't fixed, instead magldr detects charging and powers on the phone.
Hectiq, sure? Never charges for me in magldr menu.(as I would expect since the software to control charging is part of the rom)
thank everyone! I left it on magldr for 30 mins and it gave me enough juice to boot in the os to charge! Anyone with this problem should just leave it in magldr menu.
I cant even get into magdlr menu by holding power key.. it keeps restarting. Is there any other solution??

go to a store and beg them to put your battery in their phone for a few minutes?
Hi for all. I'm using a imilka's Incredible Sense v1.1 NAND ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963521
Everythings work very well but before 10 minutes, my phone turn off. By itself. And now I CAN'T BOOT UP! Any method doesn't work! HSPL Boot works but only for a 2sec. Then suddenly turn off And also MAGLDR. What I can do now? My phone is totaly down and bricked
And when I connect charger, phone boot up. Only to black HTC Boot screen. Then again boot and again
flat battery? might have to use bare end usb cable to put some charge into it.
Battery has I think about 10% but also when I connect charger my device boot up but only on HTC Black Screen. And then again restart SH***. All my contacts and important messages are GONE!
if you have been running android, the battery indicator isnt very accurate, so since you think you have 10%, id guess its even more likely you have a flat battery. I had one go to flat from 13% just on a reboot.
got an old usb cable? mini will do, doesnt have to be micro, , cut the end off, bare the red and black wires and hold them to the battery, black to - red to + (it shows + - on the battery) hold there for about a minute, and there should be enough charge to start the phone far enough into bootloader for charging to start.
Some news. When I press a combination for HSPL boot Vol+ + Power and immediately connect charger, phone is waiting and not boot at all. Now I'm at work but when I came to home I will try this same method with conection to my PC and flash original FW. We will see. But all my contacts are gone. Also on SIM card
Now I tried to disconnect the charger. I pulled out the battery and then I tried to start MGLDR bootloader. And it works. So battery is flat as you sad SH**. I hope that everything will be OK after some minutes charging on HSPL bootloader. We will see

cant charge in bootloader when magldr is installed, only when a rom is running. (Starts charging about half way through android boot cycle). Its a bug in magldr, thats why it tries to power on when you insert the power lead, magldr detects an attempt to charge, and starts the phone so it can.
Oh. My english isn't that great Sorry but I don't understand what you wrote. I'm from CZE so could you write this again and more easilly?
magldr does not allow phone to charge when the phone is off.
A rom (android or wp7) must be running (active) to charge when magldr is installed.
magldr neumožňuje telefon nabíjet, když je telefon vypnutý.
ROM (nebo android WP7), musí být spuštěn (aktivní) na poplatku za instalaci magldr.
Excellent. Now It works. I tried my method. I let my phone charging in HSPL boot screen. After 15min I tried to boot up again. And it works!! Uff. I almost had a heart attack
hehe, good result. Be very carefull about battery charge.
Yes I forgot because I had a lot of work and my phone was in my desk. Ok and thanks for a helpful informations
So I have been using my HD2 with Android installed in the internal memory for at least 6 months with no issues. My HD2's battery life has dwindled down to being about 3 hours, so I ordered a new one. I popped in the new battery and plugged the phone in, and now the phone will continuously reboot itself while plugged in, when it reaches the Dark Forces Team screen. I installed the old battery, and the same thing happens. The phone will not turn on unless it in plugged in. Also is there anyway to charge the phone while it is off? When you plug it in, it turns itself on automatically. Lastly, I don't know if this affects anything, but I did drop the phone from about 3 feet with the charger in, and now the plug has to be pushed in to get charged. Thanks for all your help guys.

1- dropping your phone with damage may certainly have caused this. did the problems start right after?
2- with magldr you cannot charge with it turned off.
3- try to boot into bootloader. is that possible?
I didnt notice anything different after dropping it, except now I usually have something wedged under the charger. I tried Loading in through MAGLDR BOOT AD NAND. No luck.
you misunderstood.
can you boot into bootloader (not magldr)? the tricolor screen- turn phone off, turn on and hold down the volume down key.
if you can (and should be able to do so) - i would start over. flash back to WM. i never do task29 though conflicting reports. then reinstall whatever OS you are using. if problems persist on WM, then is hardware. however, to flash back to WM you will need battery life (>50%) which may represent a problem. but try to get into bootloader first.
