[Q] Unable to charge.. - HD2 General

Hi, I installed Magldr 1.13 and windows phone 7 and accidentally left my battery flat. I tried charging it but it will cause an endless reboot, i will be stuck at HTC boot screen before it reboots again. I think magldr doesn't allow it to charge and I dont have enough power to boot into windows phone 7. Is there any other ways? I tried charging at the tri colour screen and magldr but the phone keep heating up. The endless reboot is causing it not to charge! =( Any ideas? Thanks

Its well known and documented that magldr prevents charging when off.
If you can borrow another phone, and the other phone has win mo you can use that to charge yours.
If you can only get access to another battery(or the other phone has magldr too),use that battery to flash yours back to winmo so that you can charge the dead battery from off.
If you can't borrow either, you are gonna need an external charger, or perhaps buy a cheap battery.

try this:
1. remove the battery for a minute or two
2. put the battery back inside
3. the phone should remain OFF, do not press any buttons, do not try to turn it on.
4. plug in the cable...see the orange light come on.
5. leave the phone like this for 10-15 minutes.
6. now turn it on and charge as usual.
tell us if this works.
NOTE: i thought cotulla fixed the battery-charging-while-off problem in magldr 1.13?

Just boot in magldr itself by holding powerbutton on start-up and let it charge in magldr that works.

Re: the above 2 posts.
No, the charge bug in magldr wasn't fixed, instead magldr detects charging and powers on the phone.
Hectiq, sure? Never charges for me in magldr menu.(as I would expect since the software to control charging is part of the rom)

thank everyone! I left it on magldr for 30 mins and it gave me enough juice to boot in the os to charge! Anyone with this problem should just leave it in magldr menu.

I cant even get into magdlr menu by holding power key.. it keeps restarting. Is there any other solution??

go to a store and beg them to put your battery in their phone for a few minutes?

Fix for dead hd2 winphone 7 fter battery discharge

Probably the wrong place but this forum is beyond navigation for newbies like me...
if you have let your battery run dry and can no longer charge and get into your win7 hd2, here's how I did it...remove sim and sd card, plug charger in, it will boot and charge again... worked for me...
I'll make sure to keep this in mind, if it works! I'll make an edit to announce my results when that unfortunate day comes.
Pulling the battery out and sticking it back in works too.

not for me. if its really discharged and i remove the battery, put it back, the charge led (orange) goes on and after 5sec its off again and nothing happens

Nope, that only works if you still have charge left in battery. removing and putting it back in also unlocks it because if you power on phone with USB in it locks for some reason. Well mine does anyway.
If your battery is completley dead then you have no choice (atm) to either charge the battery externally with a dock or by using a USB cable with end cut off (red wire to positive/black to negative).

Yes. That's what I also do many times. Never fails
No need to pull out your micro sd, it might cause your rom corrupt. Be careful!
Here's What works for me
Remove the battery .. put it back ... keep the down volume key pressed n press the power key ... THE phone will be on recovery screen... plug THE usb in .. leave it like this for like 15 mins n now reboot . It will be recharged just enuff to power the phone on ... keep the usb plugged and it will start rechaging ...
None of these tricks worked for me, and I didn't want to cut my usb cable...
But I solved the problem with dual boot. Now I can charge my hd2 when it's turned off, and I even have my battery able to charge up to 100%
I presume the phone will not charge if theres not enough power to enter WP7.
I thought the phone would charge by the USB power lead if its turned off.
I guess enter MAGLDR or the Tricolour screen will allow it to charge?

I've let my phone turn itself off twice since I've been on WP7 and pulling the battery has been enough to get it to boot up far enough to charge both times so maybe I've just been lucky or maybe the phone shuts down before it's completely discharged...
Oh man, this happened to me the other day. Battery died, phone wouldn't hold a charge. Freaked out!! But after some trial and error it worked.
Its not possible to charge the phone when its turned off?
This happened to me when I was still using WinMo. When I connected the phone to charger, it seemed dead (no led light), but after some time (I left it charging over night) it catched up and charged.
This is not possible with WP7? I wouldnt say, that MGDLR could change the way of charging when the phone is off.
keep an external charger for this problem. at least we can hope in the next update of the ROM will solve this problem
In my case, since I fall asleep while listen to music, in morning I wake up, phone already shutdown and can not boot. Even when I plug in, it boot to htc welcome then reboot.
I have tried to pull out the battery and put it back but nothing happen, my phone keep reboot.
So, I pull out the battery and charge with external charger (can charge battery only without phone). Then after 30min put it back then it works.
Thanks god. So be prepare an external charger because WP drain more power then we thought even with the warning 10%. I can not have enough power left for an over night.
This works for me.
This is known maglard issue. This steps works for me every time.
1. Remove battery and after few seconds place it back.
2. Connect your phone with PC through USB
3. Now enter bootloader by pressing Vol Down and Power buttons at same time.
4. Leave it connected for a few minutes.
5. Disconnect your phone from PC and remove battery for a few seconds.
6. Now place battery back and power up your phone.
7. You will start WP7 and now you can continue charging battery normaly.
MGDLR choose last option
it hapens to me and what i have done is in MGDLR I choose last option an it satart charging after some minutes you have to take out the baterry and reboot
it work for me
Happened to me this morning:
1) Took battery out, placed in cradle, put battery in, and held down 'POWER' whilst it booted to MAGLDR.
2) Selected USB Mass Storage Mode, waited for 10 minutes, pulled the battery out, whilst still in the cradle.
3) Re-inserted battery, allowed WP7 to boot, and orange light came on whilst booting, and started charging in WP7.
Thanks to all in this thread!
Nick
Tghe VOL DOWN + POWER works. Happened to me yesterday and after 10 minutes in tricolor I was able to boot.
Bootloader Charges Battery
VICTORY! I was frustrated, and pulling out the battery for a few seconds didn't help at all. Putting the phone in the bootloader (tricolor) screen for 10 minutes worked for me. Phone is back in WP7 and is charging.
No need to pull out battery just hold down power button boot to magdlr main menu leave charger in for 5 mins than boot wp7 (first option in menu) than shud work

Very strange problem - MY HD2 IS DOWN

Hi for all. I'm using a imilka's Incredible Sense v1.1 NAND ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=963521
Everythings work very well but before 10 minutes, my phone turn off. By itself. And now I CAN'T BOOT UP! Any method doesn't work! HSPL Boot works but only for a 2sec. Then suddenly turn off And also MAGLDR. What I can do now? My phone is totaly down and bricked
And when I connect charger, phone boot up. Only to black HTC Boot screen. Then again boot and again
flat battery? might have to use bare end usb cable to put some charge into it.
Battery has I think about 10% but also when I connect charger my device boot up but only on HTC Black Screen. And then again restart SH***. All my contacts and important messages are GONE!
if you have been running android, the battery indicator isnt very accurate, so since you think you have 10%, id guess its even more likely you have a flat battery. I had one go to flat from 13% just on a reboot.
got an old usb cable? mini will do, doesnt have to be micro, , cut the end off, bare the red and black wires and hold them to the battery, black to - red to + (it shows + - on the battery) hold there for about a minute, and there should be enough charge to start the phone far enough into bootloader for charging to start.
Some news. When I press a combination for HSPL boot Vol+ + Power and immediately connect charger, phone is waiting and not boot at all. Now I'm at work but when I came to home I will try this same method with conection to my PC and flash original FW. We will see. But all my contacts are gone. Also on SIM card
Now I tried to disconnect the charger. I pulled out the battery and then I tried to start MGLDR bootloader. And it works. So battery is flat as you sad SH**. I hope that everything will be OK after some minutes charging on HSPL bootloader. We will see

cant charge in bootloader when magldr is installed, only when a rom is running. (Starts charging about half way through android boot cycle). Its a bug in magldr, thats why it tries to power on when you insert the power lead, magldr detects an attempt to charge, and starts the phone so it can.
Oh. My english isn't that great Sorry but I don't understand what you wrote. I'm from CZE so could you write this again and more easilly?
magldr does not allow phone to charge when the phone is off.
A rom (android or wp7) must be running (active) to charge when magldr is installed.
magldr neumožňuje telefon nabíjet, když je telefon vypnutý.
ROM (nebo android WP7), musí být spuštěn (aktivní) na poplatku za instalaci magldr.
Excellent. Now It works. I tried my method. I let my phone charging in HSPL boot screen. After 15min I tried to boot up again. And it works!! Uff. I almost had a heart attack
hehe, good result. Be very carefull about battery charge.
Yes I forgot because I had a lot of work and my phone was in my desk. Ok and thanks for a helpful informations

No need to take out the battery.
When the phone is restarting, enter the MAGLDR by holding power button and leave it in charge for >15min(slow charging). Then BOOT WPH, this time it'll boot into WP7 and after entering homescreen, leave it charging(faster charging).

[Q] Charging While In MAGLDR 1.13

Ok, so last week my iPhone got lost, and I had to get a new sim card (on AT&T). I asked all my friends if they had any sim card phones I can borrow, and one of them let me use her HTC HD2 (T-Mobile branded).
I installed everything correctly, Radio, MAGLDR, HardSPL and Android perfectly. The phone has been working great (sans 3G) for the past week.
I noticed the battery died VERY quickly, and seeing as the phone was old, ordered a new one.
I got it in the mail today, and upon plugging it in (because of MAGLDR 1.13), it automatically turns on and tries to boot android from NAND.
Here is the problem: It doesnt have enough battery to fully boot up, so about 5 seconds after showing the Dark Force Team screen, it reboots. And loops.
I can find no way of charging the battery. Wall chargers and USB cords do the same, it automatically turns on, and will NOT charge.
I'm not sure why MAGLDR automatically turns on the phone instead of just keeping it off, or am I missing a setting somewhere?
Pull the battery press and hold the power button until it boots into magldr and leave it like that for 10 or 15 minutes it will charge but not indicate its charging then switch on normaly
It continually surprises me that the advice to "boot into magldr and leave it for 10/15 minutes" keeps being offered.
the person who wrote magldr clearly states that the phone WILL NOT CHARGE under magldr,,, android must be running. The code to control charging doesn't exist in magldr, it is not possible to charge using only magldr. That's why magldr starts the phone when it detects the USB connection,,,, so that android can boot to allow charging to start.
OP, get a spare USB cable, mini / micro, cut end off, bare red and black, take out battery plug usb into wall charger and hold red to + and black to - for a minute or two. Should now be enough charge to boot into android and start charging.
When a battery is empty, but only just empty, not fully discharged, letting it rest for ten mins often allows the residual charge to build up a little, so a phone that wouldn't start suddenly has enough to just about start. I believe this is why people think leaving it in magldr charges it. It doesn't.
I left it for an hour and still the bootloop.
I even tried it with the battery I know works. After 25 minutes the battery had 3% less charge then before I left it plugged in at the MAGLDR main menu.
if it bootloops with a good battery, there's a good chance it is a bent battery pin. Either that, or sometimes when a battery dies whilst the OS is running, it screws up and then wont boot until you do a hard reset or fresh flash. (However normally it would hang rather than bootloop, but anything is possible)

Are you sure about this? Because if you turn off phone at 1% charge, turn on MAGLDR 1.13 -> USB FLASHER and leave it over night, battery is at 100% when turn on and lasts for a day.
Just going on what cotulla says, and since he wrote magldr he knows that the code to control the charge circuits doesn't exist in magldr, plus the OP says he left it in magldr and the % went down.
However you sound like you've tested this yourself, so I shan't argue with you, since I haven't.
Perhaps USB flasher mode exposes the battery terminals to raw USB power, bypassing the charge control circuits, giving the same effect as holding bare wires to the battery?
Yeah I'll have to figure something out. And not to knock the writer of MAGLDR, because I could certainly not create something like it, but I find it odd and almost disturbing that the creator is fully aware that a dead battery basically bricks your phone?
I think "bricks your phone" is a bit harsh,, its not like its a surprise, most roms spend the last 15/20% warning you of low battery.
I've used the bare wire method three or four times now when my battery ran out, and although I did say it sometimes won't boot after running out, as often as not it does boot ok. I'd go into cwm and clear cache,, if that doesn't help I'd try a cwm backup, hard reset (via cwm, not the built in bootloader hard reset) see if it starts fresh, and if it does restore SD ext,, if THAT works I'd then restore data.
Just a quick related question - can you charge your phone while in bootloader? I couldn't find an answer to that but I need to know...
Allegedly not. At least that's always been the answer that has been given for the past two years. I for one believe that it doesn't charge in bootloader.
Heres the update : I had a bad charger and the usb cable was messed up as well hence the phone dies on me as battery got over. When i was trying to charge it, was getting a bootloop because of MAGldr so what i did was left the phone in the main Mag menu for 5 mins and rebooted and viola it booted in android and is charging now hope this helps i guess somehow MAG does charge your phone cheers

[Q] HTC Not charging while off (cLk)

Hey,
I have installed cLk and my battery ran out by accident, and when I put it in with my USB it just turns on the phone, then turns off almost straight away then turns on and goes in a loop. How can I ressurect my phone? I thought cLk was able to charge while off?
Thanks,
Snowled
Did you check the contact pins between battery and HD2 body?My experience is that the middle pin is so easy to be bent, and can not contact to the battery. This makes battery unchargeably.
CLK can be offline charging but I still get problem too if I want turn on my device,,,i must pull out my battery and back it back to turn on my device,,,,

This is due to how clk charges while off. AFAIK the phone isn't truly off when charging, instead it boots to something (clk?kernel?something else?) that just handles charging with the screen off. This is also why the hardware key lights will light up when charging while off. You don't need to pull the battery, just unplug from charger and power up.
If you still can't get it to charge, remove the battery, connect the usb cable then wait a few seconds, finally insert the battery and your phone should start charging normally .
cLK: phone off under charge
Hi guy
with cLK 1.5.0.3 when my phone is off and under charge, I have to remove the battery because the led stay on, and as if I push the power button, the phone doesn't start on.
This happen also when I unplugged the cable and push the power button like suggest to jwchips (2 post above)
There's a solution?
Ps. With phone off and usb cable is plugin, the battery charge.
still not charging
phone still not charging, I have to charge the battery outside of the phone, then insert it for the phone to boot up, then it will charge, if the battery died on me, it wont charge with the original charger or with the computer USB...
Enable in-built charging mode in CLKs advanced settings and try.
Don't know about Clk...but in magldr...when in boot menu screen...HD2 charges. (Led is off...no indication of charging...but it does).

What version of clk do you use? The latest experimental version can charge in off mode (both by recovery or built-in clk) and wake up your phone easily. You can charge in off mode when using old clk. But, the wake-up key combination is weird, i.e. volume up + volume down + power key. It is difficult to press them at the same time.
If all failed, charge the battery out of the phone.:fingers-crossed:
charge it in tricolor bootloader! (volume down + power) and it will not show led during charge

Are you sure about this? I don't know exactly what happens because I only have WPH 7.8 and I can't really rely on the battery indication while it turns on. Every time it is different.
So, maybe a new feature in the next release of MAGLDR can be a battery charge indication and levels? Since it boots up anyway to charge (even in magldr), i think it would be helpful. What do you all think? Maybe we post a humble request to the developers of MAGLDR?
