Consider this a rant.
I ALWAYS come here to help XDA and our community. I don't believe anyone would doubt that.
I make one thread *HERE* where I comment on not liking the IPHONE FORUMS button at the top...
In there I inquire about having an ANDROID ONLY forum and a MICROSOFT ONLY forum... seems like XDA is getting too big anyway....
I then encourage people to donate to XDA (Like I have)....
and then I get called a troll by some mod I dont know, and my thread gets locked?
Forgive me for helping people here everyday.
Forgive me for encouraging donations to XDA.
Forgive me for not enjoying looking at IPHONE everytime I post about ANDROID.
Forgive me for having an idea to split XDA up into sister sites (like you are doing).

I'm obviously new here but this does seem a bit counter productive of the forums to do. This rant has more behind it than being a "troll" and by the sounds of it the anger is founded.

to be fair to the op, the mod originally said "obvious troll is obvious". Then he post was edited reopened and moved.

S15274N seriously helps TONS of people and goes above and beyond to contribute. Really weak sauce IMHO.

Agreed, that's why I did it.
And yes, his post was edited. To be fair, I edited my op to be better, but before I could post that I cleaned it up, it was locked.

that seems like a small thing to close a thread up for.
I think that thread was a suggestion, not a complaint, or rant as you said.

but s15, by just reading the OP, you kind of made it sound like a "DO IT NOW" like a command rather than a request, i can see how the mod would get kind of irritated, too.

The way I interpreted his statement was that the thread wasn't so much the issue, but that some of the more extreme comments were.
My personal on the button: I have no problem with it. I'm with birgertime. This site started as a winmo forum and grown into so much more. Why wouldn't they want to advertise their new sister site? ios is a huge platform and I'm sure they would like those eyeballs to head on over here. Plus those mac fans love to throw out money, like for fart apps. xda deserves money, not so much apple.

To the Mod that closed this: This is not IRAN we do not need the "Thought Police" telling us we shouldn't express our consternation with a given product or corporate behavior. I would agree to personally attack another person is inappropriate But, the fact is; in a forum such as this we have the right to express our thoughts about these products. After all, isn't that how the development section got started by a bunch of us who were angry with the corporate Lameness and took to solving the substandard products on our own...?........ well luckily sprint hasnt givin an official ETA so theyre tryin to avoid the froyo debacle. this is first ive seen of this too thanks shane. there should be an option to ban certain people from posting on your threads.

Your right you didn't. I just don't see why you have to hop on every thread that the op didn't thuroughly search google for. You know a lot of us are on tapatalk or xdaapp and its impossible to search. And besides this is the only thread discussing this current build, if it wasn't it'd be another story and you'd be right to flame him for not even looking through the first pages. I'm really not trying to argue with you, you seem like a cool, informative person I just wish I didn't see you on so many threads in every subsection chastising people for not searching or whatever, it gets old.. and this is general! This is way more deserving of it's own thread than the other 75% of pure crap that gets posted in here. If an official software release version for this phone doesn't deserve it's own topic, than nothing does.
Now back on topic, here's hoping this is the actual release build and we'll see it within a couple weeks. The last leak ran great other than a couple bugs.

Actually I'm at work and saw it there while playing around on my break. I did a search for EF29 on the xda search tool and got no hits so I started the thread.

It's really sad the every f*ckin thread in the general section has to turn in to this. Can't anyone just appreciate that someone takes time to post information? This is way better than the 250 see ya bye, the epic sucks, or threads about other phones in the epic section. I'm really starting to see why the developers are leaving this site. The site I came here from wouldn't put up with this crap at all. You get 3-4 post like what happened in this thread and it get's closed and warnings go out to the instigators. Who want's to put up with this crap? I'm hoping this is my last post in this thread, but somehow I doubt it.

Maybe the mods aren't as uptight about the forum like some of these people. These are the same type of people you would hate to work with. Its a forum. A way for people with the same interest to communicate no matter what the topic be. I've made friends on so many forums. Its because of nonsense forums that people come together. When off topic discussions bring out people who would rather have a bit of fun than be buzz killingtons. Wouldnt you all rather be friends than bickering fools? This epic forum is dying.. if more of us came together who knows.. WE the posters and lurkers could pick up in development where they left off. But no.. its all about saying screw you, your post doesn't belong here.

I am willing to bet that my son is older than most of the idiot wannabe mods causing issues. I was actually in a post yesterday where someone asked a question in Q&A and got slapped for not asking the question in the app/rom thread. This is starting to get very discouraging. To many people running amuck. I actually sent a email this morning suggesting that each section for the forums should have there own "off topic" then maybe some of this BS might stop. I also asked if they like the idea and implement it to move ptfmedic's thread to it and sticky it. I for one don't even go to the main page no need.

Here we have people that we have never seen on here before that are reporting things as being "off topic" or "against the rules" that have been going on for ages and it is just the regulars here sharing with each other. But because we are in a down period as we wait for Gingerbread, and these dummies have nothing else to occupy themselves with, they think it must be all this off topic stuff holding back a new rom or theme coming out. But what they are doing is driving off anyone who has actually ever contributed anything and making certain that by the time Gingerbread drops there won't be anyone left, with the knowledge to contribute something great, who's willing to put up with the shenanigans of these fools.
They are too self involved to realize that the people that make this great software and mods that we use only do it to be a part of this community, and to chat and share and learn from each other. The fact that some random person can come in and benefit from their work is a side effect, not the main intent of their hard work!

I think you may be wrong. If XDA was purely a developer forum, we'd have no reason for separate 'Development' and 'General' areas.
Like it or not, the mallcop wannabes lurking about can't pray to their personal unicorns and wish away the fact that XDA has grown into an ENTHUSIAST community, and general, unorganized discussion is a healthy way to foster friendly, casual relationships between regular visitors.

There is a development section of the Epic forums. Maybe your time would be best spent there and not in the general section.

I completely understand that this is a development forum and we come here to read about android development. At the same time, the people that are contributing to the development section so far have been the people everyone's pissing off and booting/influencing to leave.
If a marine came back from IRAQ and ended up on CNN and said he's just glad to be back because he has a kid with AIDS at home and really needs to take care of him and would like to give everyone a site to check out childwithAIDSawareness. How surprised would you be if the news caster turned and say "whoa, let me stop you right there, these people tuned in to hear about the war, not your sick kid."

That example is a terrible fit for this situation. People posting about things not related to the epic aren't doing anything special for anyone. They are wasting XDA bandwidth and burying actual useful threads.
The best comparison would be if Casey Anthony went on the news to tell her side of the story and spent the entire time trying to advertise her book/movie/insert self indulging greed.

All I'm saying is at least the guy contributed something other than *****ing about other people. We have a bunch of these threads burying perfectly great "on topic" threads that are just as against the rules as his... And here they sit.

+1 - I agree with Mikey. Shabby has done a great deal for these forums and continues to do so. Perhaps showing a little respect would be in order. It is people like him that make the things we do to our phones easy, fun and enjoyable. If that doesn't deserve merit and respect, then I don't know what to tell you.

i now have the SGSII, just got it today and loving it, i've also moved to Sprint due to better service plan, annnnd i get a 25% discount on my bill cause of my job, i loved the atrix but it was time to move on to Sprint to help myself out budget wise, but i hope yall get ICS and more roms(hopefully an official version of CM7) it's been great yall

It's too bad XDA is overrun with assholes. If you don't care he's leaving, then don't reply and his post will quickly fall the bottom and no one has to read it. Take your insecurities out on someone in real life; see how that works out for you.
G1-8701, peace out. Enjoy your new phone. Though, you should really check out the new Atrix 2. It's way underrated and the sleeper phone of the year (or couple months, whatever it turns out to be).

On so many levels, XDA used to be so much different. (AKA a lot friendlier)
The people trolling in threads and others retaliating with profanity is exactly why we are seeing more and more devs leaving.
We need to have more "community" going on around here. If you don't like a thread, please fight the urge to ignore it instead of getting into a flame war.
And on that note, can we please lock this up?...

Agreed. I tried making a thread to get people too come togther and acomplish something for the betterment of our device and of course same deal someone had too come in and run there mouth. I should have ignored him but spoke my mind and now my thread is closed. Come on people were all on here because we like our device not too argur and pick fights with people.
