If you're using SuperOneClick do the shell root before doing the root. Also place your device in Debugging mode Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging and then use SuperOneClick to do the shell root and then the root
SuperOneClick works on my 5801 with I5800XXJPF (latest 2.2) firmware.
Hi did u try with z4root version 1.1.0?i had the newest from z4root and i couldnt root.http://www.4shared.com/file/D9EPPWfe/z4root110.htm dowload it and try!

As far as I know z4root does not work for 2.2. You have to you the OneClick one.
Try the rooting by first switch off fone and connect to PC ..run superone click ..press root and when it is waiting for the device switch on..and it will be rooted. It worked for me

So I picked up an ATT Atrix 4g the other day and I love it! Last cell's were a BlackBerry and before that an iPhone. Android OS blows those away. So I am the tinkering type and want to root and use custom ROM (greyblur). Currently I am upto date (version 4.1.83). From what I read here, I need to flash back to 1.26 via this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072). Installed RSDlite, passworded file, removed sim card, memory card, booted with RSD support, opened RSDlite, selected file (extracted to c:\GladRoot...also tried directly into c, Start. Created the image, it rebooted my atrix, and then the Status threw this message:
"Failed flashing process. failed flashing process. Phone did not re-enumerate after RAM-downloader was sent. (0x703E); phone disconnected.
Progress: Exectuded 100%
Result: FAIL
So was am I missing here? I am on version 4.1.83, but there is reference to 1.2.6 and 1.5.2...I assume these numbers are the firmware revision/version? So as I take it I need to "downgrade" from 4.1.83 to 1.26....? I am kinda lost here. Any help in the right direction would be great.
Look here to root your Atrix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
1) Where can I verify that I am on 1.2.6 on my Atrix?
2) I ran the gladroot.bat as admin (win7 user) and got:
waiting for root access to kick in...
psneuter failed to execute properly
I extracted gladroot to c:\gladroot
Any thoughts?
Did you try to use Gingerbreak?
This is really easy, i got no problem with that...
Also, I think you need to install motorola usb windows driver to use rsdlite...
No I didnt try gingerbreak.
I do have the Moto USB drivers installed.
Settings>about phone>build number
Will show if you are on 4.1.26
When it comes to the psneuter fail, I had an issue with that too I believe. Try battery pull/restart. Make sure phone is fully charged. Make sure to right click and run it as admin. Other then that, I don't know what else to suggest.
Edit: if you have any system apps frozen with titanium backup, try unfreezing them and also make sure you have the home motoblur launcher unfrozen if you are flashing an sbf.

So what does this really mean? I used gingerbreak after superoneclick hung on psneuter. Phone rebooted after gingerbreak, but superuser app was nowhwere to be seen. I got cold feet and did a factory reset thinking this was all I needed to undo what gingerbreak (and superioneclick?) did. EasyTether now hangs when disabling to I think something is broken.
using gingerbreak to root is real simple I can't post a URL, but briefmobile has instructions on how to do so using gingerbreak. briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
Gingerbreak and Gladroot are equally good. Some don't like Gingerbreak as it can wipe internal sdcard.

I have bought a DroidX and I'm trying to run Z4 root with no luck. I have downloaded and I have USB debugging turned on. When I try to do a permanent root it goes to the aquiring root shell it pops me back to the app drawer and thats it. My phone never restarts and when I try to open Z4 back it force closed and I have to reboot my phone. Any ideas on what may be happening. Thanks
Are you on gingerbread? If so, z4root doesn't work
I was using Z4 and now on gingerbread 2.3.3 it wont work. Should i uninstall z4 root or just leave it

it's useless on gb, so i would uninstall.
If you want Root on GB
Linux CD method
For those of you that are not very up on linux, the link below guides you into making a linux CD that you can insert into your windows laptop and contains all the programs you need to sbf your droid x back to froyo. You can then root it and upgrade to GB rooted using the 2 file method. It's almost idiot proof and the instructions are pretty good. If you can burn an ISO file onto a cd or usb drive and get your computer to boot from it then you should be able to sbf in about 10 minutes.

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/28/download-official-droidx-gingerbread-4-5-596-for-rooted-users/
You will lose your data but you can get root back in GB. Once you SBF, you can use the 2 file method to get rooted GB installed

Nothing works if you take the OTA.
Im trying to root my D2. Followed the guide on TheUnlockr. Got to one of the final steps (the one where it tells you to download ConnectBot and type cd /data/local/tmp, enter, ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin).
That works for me. Then it says something like "forked xxxx children". Then I type exit, and it freezes til it force closes. I can't reopen the app after. I have to uninstall/reinstall and usually pull the battery.
I've tried different terminal emulators as well; they all do the same thing.
Has anyone else rooted using this method? am I doing something wrong? Btw, I have a Droid 2 Global (if it matters) running 2.3

Try this one instead:
http://www.psouza4.com/droid3/
That, or search for Z4Root, it will root a Froyo Droid 2 or D2G, but if you already ran the OTA GB update it will not, you'd need the method above.
Thanks, I'll check it out in a little bit. I did use the Z4 method prior to the recent OTA update. It said it worked, but I couldn't flash a custom rom. Also, when I used a Root Checker from the Market, it said I wasn't rooted either. This is all before I updated.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Edit: That one-click method didn't work either. It went through, rebooted my phone three times, and said it should be rooted. I used that Root Check app, and it said I didn't have root access. Also went to use Barnacle Wi-Fi Tethering, and that said I didn't have root either, even though I have SU on my phone.

I would SBF back to Froyo and run the OTA again, that will guarantee the root is removed. Then use the link I provided and you should have SU. Running Z4 might have corrupted some files since it's not compatible with OTA GB.

Hi guys, My defy's micro USB port is not working after taking it underwater. PC doesn't detect my mobile when I connect mobile via USB. Suprisingly though it detected the mobile when i flashed SBF. It detects the mobile in bootloader mode. Now when i'm trying to root my phone with superoneclick it is not detecting the phone. Is there any other way to root the defy without the need of USB connection. Thanks..

I don't think so. Z4root and Universal Androot used to work a long long long time ago, but for most people it's no longer a viable method. They were designed for devices running 2.1 and lower, and some running very early builds of froyo. No harm in trying though.
You can also try a rooted sbf. They didn't work for me; after one successful flash, all the subsequent ones gave me a bootloader error. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691901
EDIT: if rsd is detecting, then probably you don't have the proper drivers needed. Get them on Motorola's site. Device Manager will install the proper drivers during its own installation. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481

I have few doubts regarding this..
Is it necessary to install both superuser and su binary from Framroot? Also do i need to install busybox after this?

Nice to see it works. I've always used Doomlord's Zergrush b/c I have a pc. The names of the exploits used in the Framaroot are hilarious:laugh:

Without superuser, there's no point to rooting. So yes, and Framaroot should do it just fine. Same goes for su binary, root may not work without an updated binary. For busybox, some apps like Rom Toolbox will require it, but some will not. No harm in installing busybox anyway
