There is a working compass app for the focus? I tested a few ones from marketplace an none of them seems to work properly. (Fixed to an angle)
Thanks!
From what I understand the compass feature of the phone is not able to be easily used by developers so they use the gps, which isn't as good.
I tried some of the compass apps too and none worked at all.

Yeah, thanks. Maybe "digital compass" is just a virtual compass based on the gps

Guys, the new google maps 5 is out. Seems like it has some really nice new features. Head onto marketplace and update.
The write up is on pocketnow.

Can someone post .apk, please? Google updates not available in Market in some countries.

Thanks so much for the .apk! Cheers man!
The 3D feature doesn't work for me on JDMS 1.6.2 build unfortunately.
Anyone get that to work? on which android build?
edit: Nevermind it works, my area was just too flat?!!
i couldn't make it work on my phone (see config below) either
Anyone get the map rotation to work using gestures? Only way I can make the map rotate is by using compass mode, but that requires me to be at the location I want to rotate the map around.
couldnt find the .apk file anywhere? neither in the market is the app??? where can i grab that??

Placing two fingers on the screen and moving them laterally in opposing directions worked for me.

which android build do you have? as others said i can't do that :\
thanx man you are best
Mine works great on the EVO Black & Blue Remix ROM, but London 3D has not been enabled yet
You make it 3D by putting two fingers on the screen and dragging down and I can make it rotate by putting my index finger and my thumb on the screen and rotating them in a circle. As dumb as this sounds, you really do have to practice a bit to get it to work. I'm using
EVO Carbon Remix V0.5 by motoman234
Thanks for the link.
1. Gestures work fine
2. I don't see any 3d landscape though
Are there any settings where you can activate 3D buildings and compass mode?
Update: Map stays stationary and only the blue arrow rotates.
Update 2: 3D buildings work only in some major cities around the world (i have found Chicago, Berlin untill now) and only if your zoom is at 100m/200ft and you must have all layers (terrain - sattelite) turn off.
Samsung Galaxy S - Froyo
I cant spin motion the map! I tried every means possible
I think the map rotate is limited to roms that are designed for phones that support distinct multitouch. I am using the hd2one which is built for the nexus one which doesn't have distinct multitouch... does anyone know how we can trick Google maps into performing the rotate function without flashing a different rom?

You can use this file, copy it to your hd2one/root/system/etc/permissions then reboot. I copied it from the desire_hd2 build and it works.

Direct Link for those looking for the file buzz killington was talking about. Google Maps 5.0 now works as advertised! Hope this helps some others out there wanting to get the rotate gesture working.

I've tried several of them, but no one seems to read anything, though, they do good from local pictures (not from camera though).
What can be the problem? Pictures from cam seem to be of far enough quality to be readable.
P.S.: My HD2 with QuickMark works perfectly with the same, even if I move it or shake and etc.
Google goggles or shopper maybe

Ye, tried it too, but it does not integrate into system either.
I have two problems with the bundled camera app.
1. The camera app does not seem to have support for geo-tagging using aGPS?
2. The camera app turns off the geo-tagging if the GPS is disabled. Even if i trun the GPS back on it has to be enabled manually (how smart is that, lol)
What to do? Is there an alternative camera app that works better, but wont remove important features?
Edit: Forgot to mention firmware.
Firmware is: KF3.
Cheers

1) Do you know what aGPS actually is? Camera already supports it.
2) Don't disable GPS why would you do that? It does not takes battery when it's not used

aGPS is assisted gps is it not? Doesn't it help you locate yourself even when you dont have satelite contact? Like in a mall with thick concrete roofs atop of yourhead
I just find it annoying that disabling the GPS turns the geo tagging of until you manually go back and enable it. I dont see how GPS will do me much help inside a mall.. where it will only waste my battery while i take pictures. This is when aGPS would make more sense.
I have to post this in here because i cant post in the other forum i have noticed that in this rom the magnetic field sensor is not working neither are apps like super compass thanks for such a great rom though i hope this can be fixed.
Compass should work, but I too see a problem with compass apps... Works on google maps though
something is definitely up if you use the app androsensor reboot the phone and then open up androsensor some of the sensor readings don't show up but if you leave it a while they do show up but the app SuperCompass does not work when it did on the stock firmware.
Great rom however but could this bug please be investigated thanks very much and keep up the great work on this amazing rom

try this: extract this at system->lib and set the same permissions as the previous libsensorservice.so file. Reboot and check if it works
That file has fixed the problem partially although the compass jumps around alot it displays accurate reading but then the compass jumps to another direction and then back to the correct one thanks this problem seems to be nearly fixed now.
Hi all,
I've purchased a Cardboard for a friend, however he has an Android phone (quite a new phone too, 1080p screen, but Chinese), which doesn't have a compass/gyroscope sensor. It does have an accelerometer though.
Does anyone know of any cardboard apps that work without a gyro/compass?
Thanks very much,
Shockfire.
I don't think so. However here is the list of some of the best VR and google cardboard apps You can verify it yourself. But chances are very less.
There are a lot of them
Try NOMone VR Browser. It's perfectly usable if you connect a mouse or use the mouse mode (press "Fn + D") in a bluetooth VR controller. Now you can have almost everything in normal web for you in VR

There aren't a lot of apps that don't require the compass. The best technique to find them out it test then

Excuse me, but are you talking about a gyroscope? If so, you can check out Xposed module that could replace the functionalities of a gyroscope.
