http://androidandme.com/2010/09/news/galaxy-tab-qa-honeycomb-tablet-coming-next-year/
"The Samsung Galaxy Tab will launch with FroYo (Android 2.2) and eventually be upgraded to Gingerbread (maybe Android 3.0), but Samsung said Honeycomb was for a different kind of tablet experience."
“Moving forward with Honeycomb, that will be used in the next generation tablet as it is specifically optimized for different type of tablet, and will be used on another product only.”
it stinks samsung, samsung ever for me, any product that carries this brand will be part of my house !!!!!!!!!!
he not take care of their customers and it will lose one today! of that there is a 7-inch tab with another brand, I buy, preference for HTC !!!
thanks for this news, even if it is bad
Have they posted the source for this 'quote'? Probably not. Things like this shouldn't be believed until its official.

I would take anything samfirmware takes with a pinch of salt. It was the same site that said Samsung IS updating to honeycomb not so long back.
Until Samsung themselves say anything ill wait.

Agreed! Lets wait for an official response but I'm pretty sure its true.
Ps-this has nothing to do with development do why did you put it in this section? We all need to do our part in cleaning & maintaining these threads.

These are the same people who have bricked more tabs than fixed.
I trust Samfirmwares as far as I can throw a fat kid. Bout 2 inches.
I dont see an abysmal difference between 2.2, 2.3 ... 3.0, everything works pretty much the same. the layout of 3.0 may not be the best for a 7inch tablet anyways... perhaps google will meet us halfway and release something that is not 3.0 but will run apps made for 3.0 or something like that. if we never get 3.0 its not going to be a big deal for me, maybe I am on a different situation because I just got it, and most of you have had it for while. and I could get the xoom if 3.0 was that big of a deal but I've played with the xoom and its just too big for me, I like the portability of the galaxy tab and that is more imporant that having honeycomb.

How many devices are out there right now with ROMs on them that aren't official or haven't even been released?
Crummy reason to give up the best available tablet on the market today. (That's called an opinion, and I'm entitled to mine)
I'm fairly confident that at some stage we will have fully functional and stable honeycomb on our tabs. Does it really matter if it's not an official Samsung release?
After all, if all we're interested in is getting official updates from vendor sources then there's little or no point being on these forums.
Have faith in the developers here, in my opinion they provide more reliable roms than the vendors!
just one question, what the hell do you guys expect? if somebody port honeycomb to the tab we will have it. but whats the point? what you are actual missing on your tab? why need sooo much honeycomb? i guess in 95% of all cases its just the childish "must have" instinct like me....
so stay calm, lets enjoy our tab and stop to blame samsung....
I did quite trust the dev here, more than a samsung, but I am disappointed to have paid a very expensive tablet and end samsung not take care of customers, but many want our money !!!
I do not like their politics !!!
I trust samfirmware saying no honeycomb for the galaxy tab as much as I trust apple to tell me a quote from samsung[1]. wait for official sources to confirm or deny.

Maybe because some apps will only work on honeycomb.
Can anyone here honestly say that they bought there Tab because Samsung said that it would get Honeycomb? I don't recall Samsung ever officially saying anything of the sort personally, though I stand ready to be corrected!
Yes, it would be really nice to get an official Honeycomb ROM, but when I bought my Tab I knew it was coming with Froyo and I knew that Samsungs track record in the past with respect to new Android versions wasn't great.
If we get Gingerbread out of Samsung, I'd say that was a win personally.
Regards,
Dave
EDIT: Interesting article here dated September 2010, where Samsung effectively say that the Tab 7" wouldn't get Honeycomb.
HoneyComb IS here...
Hey guys its actually already been done. A russian developer already flashed it, and it works. ofcourse its an alfa version and there are tons of stuff that is not working, but that means in a few weeks and with all the smart people we have here, it will be done. Here is the link

Erhhh, you're coming a bit late to the party here!
a) This is based on the work of spacemoose1 from these forums for CDMA Tabs.
b) Many people here have flashed it or tried flashing it.
c) At best, it can be considered a very early alpha - it isn't in a state where you could remotely use it as a daily driver!

Dave

I've stumbled upon this thread at cyanogen's blog:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cm9-progress-update
If you look at this part, is good news for us, since Acer Iconia and Asus Transformer, as far as I know, share most of the hardware...
The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer.
Yishhh.... I hope it won't take long for a first release!
Happy to see this. I just flashed my phone a few hours ago with a (quite buggy) alpha CM9 build, and while it's quite slow and has a lot missing, I must say it's beautiful and very fun to use. Maybe blazingwolf can help cyanogen bring it to our tabs?

Once again... This is news for the International Version of Galaxy S. Our beloved Vibrant was left out way back in the Froyo Days. The International at least got GB source released and even official for all but the Vibrant.
So sorry if this is rude but, this is no news to us Vibrant owners.

Can't complain, it's official software, whether it was leaked legitimately or not. This may be a very good sign for us.
GPS Fail
[ROM][07-JAN][4.0.3] ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Passion v10.6 - Proof it can and does work just fine on Galaxy S hardware.
As far as leaving out Touch Whiz... I seriously doubt most would consider that a deal breaker . Leave it out if it won't fit. That reason is too lame to explain why official updates just stopped so early in this phone's life.
It is simple in my mind. Samsung screwed the pooch on 10,000,000 phones with the faulty GPS hardware they chose to stick into these phones. All roms, from the "official" garbage Samsung's put to the excellent roms from brilliant developers like the one above, can never seem to get the GPS in these phones working properly.
Samsung wants 10 million Galaxy S phones to just go away, so we'll stop asking them when they're finally going to fix the gps.
Samsung gave up on the Galaxy S long ago.
You know what, the devs here are crazy awesome. They've basically put a stable NON-TOUCHWIZ ICS on our devices (passion and a couple others but passion in particular) and I couldn't be more thankful as I am not well off and have to buy older devices to keep my android addiction fixed thanks devs for all that you do. We truly appreciate you guys

Remember that GPS works* for ICS but with an asterisk! Once your phone goes to deep sleep, GPS won't work until you reboot your phone and use it immediately (before any deep sleep). This is a highly accepted observation.
Support for phones
It's official, we are no longer supported.
Not supporting Sammy but.... I've found this problem (little or no support) with anything that is electronic a common practice. These companies are pushed buy sellers and yes the consumer to come up with the next 'latest and greatest'.
Appliances, TV's, modems, routers, computers... you name it, after months of support Sammy and the like, move along and let the buyer find resources to upgrade.
and so a +1 to your following statement and DEVs'
Thank you to all DEVs that have been cooking & porting ROMs with the latest. Without you, my phone would be an expensive and out-of-date purchase.

Hello everyone. The time has come. Today Samsung announced their new flagship device GT i9300 A.K.A. Galaxy S3. Now, if you are a big fan of pure AOSP and his aftermarket distributions like I am you certainly already know that ICS based CyanogenMod 9 is out there and running and its pure fresh blazing awesomeness. That said, I decided to start this pledge to gather money to give Teamhacksung members codeworkx and xplodwild the next Samsung Galaxy S3 so they can develop for it and port CM9. As you probably know, Teamhacksung is the official CM mantainer for Samsung devices.
Im daily in touch with Teamhacksung members and they are already aware and fully support this pledge.
We running for two devices here. The ammount already includes Pledgie taxes. The donnations are going straight to xplodwild’s paypal account.
We count on you that, like me, is certainly going to buy this new beast called Galaxy S3 and want to see it sporting CM9 and future Google AOSP releases.
CM9 on Galaxy S3 for the WIN!!!!

and we raised funds in just 24 hours where we could get them the galaxy note, love the community spirit. lets do it!

I'm not entirely sure I will want to put a vanilla or CM on this phone right away... the stock Touchwiz ROM seems to have a lot of nice features.. Unless these can be incorporated into a ROM that is based on CM9 or what-have-you I think I will try running a stock Touchwiz ROM with root access.. I have never used Touchwiz but even if I had I couldn't definitively say I won't like this because it's new to everyone.

Awesome.
---
To each their own.
Thanks for being so sarcastic. I guess things went a bit too fast.
Actually, while the Galaxy S3 will have many great features, they're all software-based. And after looking deeply, there's nothing that prevents us from adding these nice features to an AOSP ROM, for instance CyanogenMod 9.
Hence why, Galaxy S3, once running CyanogenMod 9, will profit from a community effort started recently to bring manufacturers' features to all CM9-enabled devices. This can include actions triggered by motion, and other features so-called "natural".
You can find out more details at http://opendesign.blamesamsung.org/. Details on specific features, as well as the ability for everyone to request this kind of features, will be available on May 10th.
I can only thank once more people that will help Team Hacksung and CyanogenMod getting a Galaxy S III, to help all CyanogenMod 9 devices.

So true, this was an inspired moment We will give you more details soon. I'm pretty sure you will all like it. But we will need more peeps to help. This won't be done by xplodwild alone. this is a community work. Once done, this will revolution the world of mobile and of every CM9 maintained phone. xplodwild linked the website, it's still under developement, but you learn soon what it is .
And to answer CoNsPiRiSiZe, touchwiz always deceived us. I don't see why it would change now. A proverb says : "You don't have to taste **** to know it taste like ****".
