Gday all im a bit lost in the android forums so im just going to do a noob thing and ask for some assistance, thanks.
I just installed the "[30 DEC][DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM" rom over top of my last rom from WINMO, which was the Energy jan 6 rom.
I also installed the latest Radio "Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14" and HSPL3 along with "MAGLDR112" everything went sweet upon install, so i have no real questions regarding that but im wondering how i can boot back into WINMO if its possible?
If i reboot the phone it just auto loads into Android.
Also i would like to know what the best Android rom is for reliability and secondly how would i update the roms as new version are released?
I think thats about it for now, the rom in currently using feels smooth and great the apps work fine but it feels a little locked down compared to the WINMO but it hasnt crashed on me in the past day which WINMO would have by now, lol.
To flash back winmo, simply go into bootloader/tri color screen. This is done by holding vol down, then powering up.
I'm not going to answer which is the "best" android rom, as that has been asked many times, where there are many answers for, so, search it up.
Updating differs. If it uses daf.exe/install.exe, it's that same as how you flashed android for the first time, however sometimes you can't retain your settings. Clockwork mod flashing however, is unbeknown to me, haven't tried it yet, sorry.
Thanks for that, so what would i need to do to backup my settings and info on the Android just incase i reinstall it just say?
Also if i back to the bootloader would that mean ill have to reinstall a winmo rom?
Then if so would it only boot into WINMO and not android?
Secondly how would i be able to reboot into android again?
I guess im asking is there a way to dual boot and whats the best way about doing it?

r u being jackass?u have to flash stock wm rom first.ok then u can flash any custom rom.
ok use titenium backup to backup ur android settings abd appp..
ok and after winmo if u want dual boot u have to install sd android build to ur sd card

Yeah i come on here to troll these forums to post noob questions for ****s and giggles, are you such a person who angers over someone who clearly doesnt know what he is doing and yet you think im being a jackass (god i hate that word, lol never used down here though).
I hope i clearly posted im the OP on how and what i installed but now im lost, i have android working fine but i dont know how to back any data up just incase i do an update or even flash back to stock rom and maybe come back to android later and hope to reuse the backed up data from the android rom.
It took me about a year to get used to WINMO and learning how to install a custom rom on it but now i thought i give android a go and i managed to follow the steps without any issues (yes there were a few more steps i needed to do than i did need to do for a custom rom for WINMO) but now that i have it running i just want to know what to do to get WINMO back on and preferably getting WINMO and android working side by side.
I know how to flash custom roms in WINMO but im just wondering if there was a way for me to be able to boot back into winmo while i have android installed, all i want is to be pointed into the right direction or shown a link to a walkthrough or just given a point form reply as to the process on what and what not ill be able to keep and the best way in doing so.
So from your reply i gather ill need to install android to my SDcard and not the phone memory in order to run WINMO and Android together am i correct?
If so then because i use the ENERGY ROMS i can boot to android from within the ENERGY ROM, am i correct? i think NRG did something with android in his roms.
I am really sorry if i have upset anyone (above) but i am really lost with this, yes i pretty much understood custom roms in WINMO but with this i just did it spontaneously VERY VERY late last night and i wasnt thinking straight i just gave it a shot, so i put myself in the deep end and now im very confused with getting it back to normal as such thats all.
Worst case would i just be able to reformat the SD and then boot to 4 colour screen and just do my custom WINMO install as per usual or would i have to install the stock rom back then install the custom rom?
First of all, ignore the "jackass" above. That was just plain rude and he made himself look like a total idiot.
Secondly, if you want to backup your current Android setup, get Titanium Backup from the market. There's a batch job (click menu, batch jobs) that backs up all your apps & data and system settings. It backs it up to your SD card though, so be aware of that if you're thinking of formatting it for any reason.
Next, get the WM6.5 ROM that you want to flash (doesn't have to be a stock one). Enter the bootloader (tri-colour screen) and flash your WM ROM as normal.
Finally, when you flash a ROM onto your phone, that becomes the only OS on there. You can't switch between Android NAND and WM without flashing. You can, however, run Android from your SD card. There's a forum dedicated to that here...
HD2 Android SD Development
There's lots of info in there on how to do it, but it's basically unzip a file, copy the contents to your SD card, run 2 apps. You'll probably want to go down the route of a bootloader (not really) that runs in Windows. It lets you select Windows or Android when you reboot. They too can be found in that same forum.
That's the only way you can switch between Windows and Android on a regular basis, without flashing a new ROM.

Generally, you flash an updated ROM the same way you flash the original ROM. There are backup options like Titanium Backup or ClockWork Mod (if the ROM supports it), so you can get everything back up and running again.

I wanted to flash Android over WinMo entirely. So I followed this guide (Method 1)after I installed HardSPL. Now the screen is just black. It's on, but just black. It isn't recognized by MobSync or the Updater.
Am I screwed now?
**EDIT** I kinda panicked at first, but then realized that I have to be able to get to the bootloader. So I figured out how, got to the bootloader and flashed it again. Same thing, black screen.
I assumed this would flash an Android build onto this? Do I still have to flash a build and how do I tell the difference between builds that run off SD and builds that are flashed entirely?
Flash back to a stock win mobile rom, then restart your attempts to get android up and running.
It's not bricked if the device can get to bootloader and successfully flash.
So the guide I followed should have flashed a build onto there? Not just set it up so I could?
I really appreciate the help. I normally am in the G1 section, so doing this on the Vogue is kinda new.

You don't HAVE to flash to your NAND, I personally run android off my SD card until a few features become complete in it (A2DP Bluetooth :/ ). So far after testing all builds I have found ANDROID] Myn’s Warm Donut – DarkStar Themed to run the fastest and smoothest, however it is far from 100%. Basic functions work as well as bluetooth headsets, however apps are a 50/50 shot at working. For the most part the stability and basic functions are all complete tho. The new 2.1 builds show a great deal of promise.
This community brought my old Vogue out of storage and I have been using it again as my daily driver.
In one month I guarantee we will have a incredibly stable 2.1 build, these people are geniuses.
I know I don't have to, but I want to. I'm going to give it to my wife as just something to play with. It will have no data/voice so I don't want her to have to launch Android from WinMo every time.
But is that link in the guide from the first post supposed to flash a build or not? Do you know?

Hello all. I just got a HTC HD2 from a friend. It has Windows running on it and then he put android 2.2. Well had gave it to me today and said that when he wiped the info on it today for some reason it wiped the bootloader and now instead of asking which OS I want to run when I start the phone it goes straight to Window. From there I have to manually go to the SDCard and launch it.
How do I fix this issue?
I want to put the Android OS on the Phone rather than the SDCard, is there a simple way to do this at the same time?
And I want to put a new rom anyways on the phone at some point. I rather have Gingerbread running on it, would there be an option to fix this all at once?
I understand the phone to a degree and how it works but rather new to how to do all this at once or in the right order, and what to look for.
ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING!!! I need to get this phone up and running by the end of the day. Thanks again.

You already seem so know how to use file explorer to find the android haret download an app that allows you to choose on boot up which os u want 2 to automatically boot into I left windows wen I got the epic.the app is calld bootloader if I remember right. Start there

Hey just click on my guide I have in my sig and read it as it will let you now more about the tools you need to flash a NAND Android ROM. I also have that guide that was linked for you linked at the top of my guide and another very good guide to installing Android to NAND that is posted at the top of the Portal as I gues you would call it a stickie for now as it has been there ever sense Gunjahman wrote it.
Also if you want to stay with a SD card Android build then check out this dual boot app.
I'm in need of some expert advice. I would really like to run Android on my HD2 and have read a ton of threads on here on how to do run it. Problem is there seems to be several different options, ie. Nand, SD and so on. The more I read the more its difficult to know which option to choose. I new to this and do not want to break my phone. Would you advise trying this myself or sticking with what I have. Here is what I am currently running.

Manila: 2.5.20181424.0
ROM: 3.14.531.1
Radio: 2.15.50.14
This will void your warranty, but dont worry, you can flash it back to "normal"

If you want to run both, i would advise you to use SD card method, and your windows os will be untouched.
I personally grew to hate WinMo and never went back since the early days of HD2 Android when only SD method was available.
This phone should have never come out without Android on it! Big fail! but it is an awesome machine still and thanks to the great people here at XDA, its a whole new level of phone with Android!
Head to the nand section (if you only want android) and download Typhoons CM7 build.
The instructions are pretty clear, and everything you need (including instructions ) is there.
Is the fastest and more stable build i have used and believe me as i am a flash addict (rom flashing of course). All my apps work and there are almost daily updates and treats from the Cyanogen mod team.
Cyanogen, always one step ahead. Making the smartphones even smarter...
PS: REMEMBER to ALWAYS backup before trying something new!
Well if you're absolutely sure of what is to be done and you don't care for your warranty as much, then flash away a NAND android build. Here is a guide:

If you're not sure if you have something already or not, then you might as well still flash what is required, it won't hurt, but it'll reassure you that you have the right settings.
If you really aren't sure how to do this, then just stay away. I would advise you not to ask someone to do it either since you may run into problems and then you'll know not what to do.
As said however, a sd build is painless, it won't even void your warranty so if you wan to be safe, use that.

Personally, I find there to be no difference between the two. Especially when it's a stock/cyanogen mod build. In sense builds I would say I found a difference such that NAND builds were faster, but I can't be too sure on whether I was swayed by my excitement of a NAND build at that time or sense builds were just slow already difference is so hard to tell.

Its been a while since i used SD, but something i have always seen improved on NAND, was the wake up speed from standby. On SD, there was almost 2 secs before screen came on... maybe this is resolved nowadays! not sure!
Ok, you can for sure use the SD version - but my personal meaning is, that nowadays everybody uses the NAND versions cause of performance reasons. I changed to that and i would never go back Stable, fast etc ... sometimes a bit tricky whe you install a rom the first time, but normally, like in the CoreDroid releases there is a good manual avaible - keep close to that, do not change something without experience and it will work
There is nothing special about installing nand rom.
What you need is hspl and radio (you've got the right) first, then magldr 1.13 (bootloader), clockwork recovery console (clockwork mod to flash, reformat your sd and so on), the rom specific recovery layout (space for your rom) and the .zip file of that rom you want to flash. And ofc for the most of nand roms a sd ext 3 partition for your apps or system data. (Can be done with cwm all over the phone).
For warranty just restore all things done by customizing your hd2. No worries about that. You just need to restore the original spl and stock winmob rom
Nand is the best for a stable system.

+1 for nand, also tends to have better battery life. Go with clk not magldr as it gives you a fully native android.

NAND is better for battery life, but American android cyanogen build (in my sig) is fast, smooth and trouble free. I would suggest you try a SD build before moving onto NAND to sample. SD installation is as simple as download to computer, extract, copy and paste Android folder onto SD card.
The short answer to your question is: f*Co yeah!
Its simple really, if your good at following instructions then you have a 00.01% chance of breaking your device, therefore why not.
Now since you took the effort of registering here, which is all about tweaking, moding( you name it, there is a mod for that too), it would be a shame that you'll go back to using some thing that you don't like (winmo) for another year, just because you don't have the guts?

If you're going to invest the effort I'd just go nand, you can always reflash windows. I'd go with typhoon or hyperdroid, both solid cyanogen based roms. Otherwise you'll just waste time setting up SD install only to have to redo it. My 2c

+1 for going with American Android SD version of Gingerbread.
I first tried a RAM version and was impressed, but AmericanAndroid is as smooth and stable as you can get with an SD build.
Love it and my phone is amazing with it!
Instructions are clear in the first post and there is really no chance of bricking your phone.
Live with it for a while and if you then feel like you want more...then try a NAND build.

I am kind of new at this, but here's my two cents.
If you know you don't like the Windows OS, you may as well commit to a NAND ROM. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression, the SD ROMs were hard to reboot. Don't you have to boot into Windows and run a file to boot the Android? Maybe I just didn't read all of the boot loader options.
Another thing I learned is that you probably want to try a ROM without Sense to start with. My first approach was to go for the slickest ROM since I had a nice new slick phone. Looking back, I should have gotten something stable working to see Android work, and then, I could have tried the Sense 3.0 ROM. Just a thought.
Another frustration I had was finding a full set of directions. I am like you in that I can follow directions, but I had trouble with all the different directions. Some ROMs need to flash a partition. Some are SD-based and you follow a totally different set of instructions. It sounds like you have already done enough reading to get past this point, but you might consider the completeness of the instructions that come with the ROM when you select the ROM you want to use.
I hope those thoughts help.

I'm an Annoying Noob to you, as you probably already guessed. But I made this account, because I want to root my phone to Android gingerbread, with a -STABLE- sense (2.1+)3.0 UI.

BUT! I'm REALLY a noob at rooting. I've tried HaRET rooting, with a Nexus android Rrom, well... That didn't go too well, because via my SD things would become veeeery slow after a while. So I NAND rooted my phone to Android Gingerbread 2.3.3. I'm quiete happy with it, but it's not really the HTC feeling I get when I look at the UI.
So I saw sense 3.0 and fell in love.
Well enough about that. I have an HTC HD 2, it's NAND rooted and it's European... ALL I want is a STABLE sense 3.0 rom... That works for my phone.
Now I was wondering, if I would instal it... Would it work properly for me? None of us are sure. So that's why I want to back-up my ROM. With Clockwork rom recovery tool... you know, from the market. Well I get a very annoying error every time I try to back-up my data. I did flash the app to it's most current version, but when I want to make a back-up, my phone just reboots... and does... basically, nothing.
I don't want to mess up my phone entirely. So what should I do first, dear XDA'ers? Please, I just don't want my data to get lost. I tried multiple tutorials but none seem to have the answer to my problem!

rom manager dont work with magldr.
To make a backup boot into cwm manually:
hold power down while rebooting -> magldr screen should appear
Then navigate to ad recovery-> backup and restore..rest should be clear.

I just raped my phone I think. I had HSPL installed, and MAGLDR and I think some other stuff too, so I used the first rom the first poster linked, and I downloaden the two files it told me to download in the instructions... I installed the custom RUU from that first rom, and then my phone kinda died. It only said "HTC" in green, and it diidn't do anything. So I flashed it back to WinMob 6.5. Now I have WinMob 6.5 (rom 1.66 or something I think) and I'm not sure what to do next. I don't want to brick my phone and I don't want WinMob 6.5 either.
*Sigh* I wonder if I'll ever understand rooting.
So just to clarify, I have HSPL (I'm sure it's the correct one too.) And I have MAGLDR installed on my phone. And I don't get the instructions from said thread.

if you have come until mgldr don't give up. download the nand tool kit i mentioned a few posts before.choose and download a simple rom for beginning (you may take tyweens typhoon) put it in your sd. after that you will take a few steps. don't be afraid,many people (including me) faced same problems.

Thing is, I don't want a simple rom... I'm stubborn like that, hehehe...
I want a sense 3.0 rom, but I'm not sure how to follow the instructions in the thread. It uses terms I've never heard from before...
Well, if there's a stable android 2.3.3/2.3.4 rom with sense 2.1, I'd consider that! Also, I hate the MAGLDR boot screen... you know, "Go go go!" I saw a rom with a very smooth and pretty boot screen... I'd try that too!
i just say if you can succeed to flash one, then you will learn the steps. after that you can try a different rom everyday,as i do

since your hd2 is eu, you should also use sd-ext partition have you done this?

Yes, I have. I made a 2 gig EXT-4 partition. I just don't know what to do with it. I have Radio Leo installed, MAGLDR, HSPL... CWM and all that.
I tried flashing the two roms you suggested in your first post but they are stuck on the boot screen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
have you made necessary cwm partitions using usb flasher and nand toolkit?

All of a sudden my phone wont get data, I did the apn fix I found, my phone also wont load any of my tmobile information and the charger keeps charging and then stops charging and the phone feels real choppy. I'm new to this phone, and use to others where you simply root, install recovery, rom and be done. I'm reverting back to stock win 6.5, which method would be the most popular and stable for installing android?

Why would you possibly use the stock Desire ROM? It's so outdated, it was really just a proof of concept. It isn't even rooted. Find a ROM you like, then flash CWM (with the correct partition size as per the ROM you chose) and then the ROM with any addons you choose. There are tonnes of detailed guides, use search .
this is the thing that confuses me, I actually downloaded the NexusHD2 Rom, but I couldn't figure out how to install it, I don't think I had a recovery unless the magdlr is the recover(?) Also I was under the impression from what I read that when you download a rom on the computer it comes with an installer built in .DAF or something like that? It was just your average .zip rom, which I got from the NAND development section. I'm so confused with this phone lol. I'm so use to the basic android root and rom and all that. Is magldr the way to go? I want a way thats got a lot of development and stable roms.

It was just your average .zip rom, which I got from the NAND development section. I'm so confused with this phone lol. I'm so use to the basic android root and rom and all that. Is magldr the way to go? I want a way thats got a lot of development and stable roms.

This phone isn't complicated, you're just not reading properly In terms of ROMs, once again the Stock Desire ROM is the only exception to the trend, but all other ROMs are flashed via CWM. Read the guide in my sig and it should be fairly clear, if it isn't then you probably shouldn't be flashing anything at all. The outline is:
1. HSPL
2. Radio version 2.08.50 or above (I think. Best solution if you aren't sure is to flash 2.15.50.14).
3. MAGLDR 1.13
4. (step you seem to be confused about) CWM with correct partition size for the ROM
5. (optional) Repartition for A2SD
6. ROM (as a .zip, like any other Android phone)
7. Any extras you may want to flash e.g. Kernels, tweaks, GApps etc.

Not to sound rude, but I'm not stupid, I've rooted over 50 of my personal android phone since the Eris was brand new, I'm not a newb, but this hd2 thing use to be much different back in 09 when it came out.
I did skip the recovery step and the partition. I'm installing nexushd2 2.7 now. I saw the 4.1.1 version was just released, I'll have to check that out now.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean that. I just meant that a little in depth reading goes a long way. I'm sure you're perfectly capable of flashing things and yes the HD2 is different but it's genuinely just as easy if not easier than flashing other phones. Having said that, the only other phone I've flashed is my Dad's SGS3 which was pretty much as easy as the HD2. The reason I think the HD2 is better/easier is that there's pretty much no common way that I know of of bricking an EU HD2. Obviously sometimes people just get bad flashes or through years of flashing get bad blocks, but normally people are fine no matter what they do (within reason of course).
