[Q] Research about the Android Market - Android Software Development

Hi!
I am doing a research project for my university and it would be very helpful if you could answer this survey.
It is really fast and easy to do it and I would really appreciate it.
Here you can find the survey in english:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dHlOQzRfNS1FT3JNUjZpY2Q1Z1h5MVE6MQ#gid=0
And here, the same survey in spanish:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&pli=1&formkey=dDdwREFtbkt2dGpXdnBzb3B6Uld3V2c6MQ#gid=0
It will not take more than 5 minutes.
Thank you so much!

Good questions , you should receive some interesting data.

Thank you so much for your answers. I'm receiving a lot of answers, but sadly i still need more.
@a33a
I've used my 6 months experience as an android user to create this survey. Thank you for your feedback.

done whats it for?

Hey! thanks!
It is for a module called research methods, where we are supposed to show how can we research about something.
Obviously I decided to do a research about how the android market works. I don't think my assigned teacher would know so much about Android but I wanted so badly to do something about android .
Honestly, the number of answers received it's amazing! But I feel like I have to ask for more.

done good luck with your project

Done Some good points raised there...

Thank You to Everyone

Hey everyone,
I wanted to taket the time and say a quick thank you to everyone that has taken time out of thier schedules to try cook roms, tweak registries, and build cabs to share with the community. Being a college student I can tell you that there are numerous times that I wanted to throw my device out of the window due to issues that I did not understand. I have always been fairly tech savy but I am new to the PPC WM world. I have always been able to visit this site for help, and to find whatever else I needed to unlock the full potential of my device. Even though I cannot donate to everone, I just wanted to let you know that your hours of hardword and frustration are very much appreciated by myself, all of the other members, and the thousands of un-named that visit the site on a day to day visit. Just remember this when you feel that you are not getting the recognization that you deserve. There are thousands of people out there that you help on a day to day basis. Keep up the good work and always remember that you are appreciated.
P.S. I was not sure wher eto post this but feel free to move it to whatever forum you feel would best suite it's needs.
I wish to do the same, just can't find enough word to show my appreciation. That is why I'm going to say one simple and huge: THANK YOU!
I too would like to thank all of the developers here. I can tell you I was about to buy a new phone when I happened across this site and brought my Blue angel into 2008 with all the wonderful ROMs and software found here. Thank you all no matter how big or small your contribution has been it has been appreciated. As I am not a coder all I can offer is support, which I try to do as regularly as possible here. To everyone keep up the great work.
I too would have to add to this. If it wasn't for this site and its hard working developers I wouldn't realize the full potential of my cell-y.
The only way I can contribute to this site is by donating to these talented and hard working developers so that they may continue to create some of the most usable/innovative programs only to ask for donations in return.
Much Appreciated to all....
Huge THANK YOU to all the cookers and developers indeed!
Without this site and all the people here my life would be shallow and meaningless misery...Well, not exactly, but thank you anyway!
Thank you!

[Q] Anyone willing to teach???

I am wanting to learn to make roms and do some theming i have had a few android devices well 4 so far and have always done the rooting and custom roms and kernels and have always wanted to learn to make them for myself for me to use with everything exactly the way i want them. if anyone would have the time to help a little please let me know payment can be worked out. If anything i ask or said is not allowed then im sorry never really ask much on forums before.
I saw a little guide to setting up a dev environment over in the Mez forum posted by Phidelt82. Here is the link. Hope it helps.
Cheers

^ That is probably the best idea as it gives live support/feedback. I'd say that it's best to do at least a little research and have an idea of what you want to do beforehand though. If you just say "teach me how to do xyz" your response won't be as good as "I am trying to do xyz and this is where I'm having a problem". The more you help yourself beforehand, the more help you will likely receive.
Yea, the IRC is an amazing place to ask questions. I've taken the step to building kernels now myself and have been asking plenty of questions. I now have 2 UV kernels out myself. Same goes for themes and roms. Someone will help, just be patient though, cause, usually everyone is busy during the day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this... I wanted to put it under the android development section, but didn't want to clutter anything. So, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to all of these modifications to phones. I have pretty much been reading these forums non-stop for the past few days, and the amount of information on here is incredible. Last night I flashed the Axura 2.2.6 ROM to my phone with no problems! I was amazed at how easy it was! All of the applications people developed are so useful like ROM manager and Titanium backup. You could never get these kinds of tools and info from the manufacturer. I am truly in awe of the smarts and talent the people on this website have. So thank you so much, for taking the time to create and put tutorials together, so people like me, who don't understand all of the programming language and resources needed to make something like a custom ROM come together, be able to reap all of the benefits my phone has to offer.
-Tara
P.S. I wanted to click the "Thanks" button on a lot of the threads, but it wasn't there?!
Glad to have you around and glad that the Forums helped you out. This is a tight group (most of the time) even if a lot of issues around Samsung currently going on.
Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to what comes out in the future for these phones... as far as controversey around Samsung... I was part of the group that was dealing with Motorola and the Motorola Cliq. I was able to get out of that mess and switched to the Vibrant, and I feel like I'm encountering it all over again. I know the manufacturers have no obligation to give us updates, but then don't promise it! And if it comes, it's kind of like a really nice surprise! When companies make promises like an upgrade by a certain date, and don't follow through, of course people are going to be pissed! But, with the help of developers, we can enjoy all the benefits the phones have to offer. And probably, the modifications made by developers are better than the manufacturers would do anyway!
Welcome
Tara, glad to have you here, as you already know these forums are a wealth of information regarding your phone. I also got to the vibrant from a bad experience with a phone. (the Samsung Behold II) Follow along, don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them, as someone will most always be there to help. You may even find like I did that you don't need to worry so much about the updates promised by TMO and Samsung. Most of the 2.2 ROMS we have available to us now are already beyond what the updates would give us anyway. So I would encourage you to read, read, read through the threads and to support the developers wether it be Team Whiskey, Master, Eugene, or whoever.
But most of all, welcome
Welcome, because of the people here you will so much more enjoyment from the phone. You are right the stock item is really substandard compared to the custom awesome work of the people in the android family and specifically this forum.
Keep reading, especially the stickys/bible and other notable instructions.
Enjoy and welcome
I have been lurking around<(creepy?lol) and reading the crap out of stickies here for about a month now, and I too would like to extend a token of grattitude to all of the extremely intelligent and helpful members here. Thanks for taking the time to explain procedures clearly and concisely. The custom roms and information you have provide truly make this device awesome.
-Brad
P.S. Sorry for jacking your thread Tara, but I didnt want to add another thanks to the general.
Thanks for all the friendly messages everyone! And that's ok Brad! All day I have been watching folders open on my phone, and just the way the flip out, out of nowhere, is so cool!!! I am just amazed at the work the developers have put into making these phones run so well. And, on top of that, sharing the wealth with all of us, and including step by step written tutorials and videos. They have my complete gratitude and I truly look forward to see what they think of next!

[Q] Can newbies have directly support from other xda-users?

I am a newbie to Android operating system. As many other newbies, I got a lot troubles and puzzles when using my android phone, recreating themes or modifying ROM, etc... Then I have to post a new thread on forum and waiting for an advice. Sometimes it takes a lot of time just for a easy bug fix.
Therefore, I wonder if some experienced android users can leave their gmail address so that newbies like me can add as buddies in g-talk in order to asking for advices in some cases.
Thanks.
Best advice I can give you is to start here reading the Noob bible, read read read, then once you are more familiar with the phone, I would join one of the developers personal website forums. The people in there can and will give you advice, you can look into EDT forum, TW etc. All these groups have a varying level of skilled people in each of their respective website forums. But, before launching over to one, you need to have some education, and understanding so you can ask useful questions.
Good luck............. android is a great platform

99% of the time, all the "easy bug fixes" that you're referring to have already been addressed and resolved. I have been at this a while and have yet to start a new thread because my questions have either already been asked/answered, or I just figure it out myself. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people asking legit questions, but members starting new threads about common questions is a little irritating and shows a lack of effort in my opinion.
My bad - accidental repost.
Yeap I see, thanks a lot. ^^
if you need help feel free to pm me, no offense but i dont like leaving my email address around especially with everything i use it for. I generally check my XDA pms atleast once a day, keep in mind that i don't have time to walk you through everything step by step which is where the noob guide comes in. However i will always be willing to point you towards resources that will either instruct you on what to do unless its an incredibly difficult topic in which case ill do my best to asist.
Cheers
make a thread, pm me, ask for my number w/e I'll help you out..
I'm one of the most active users in the vibrant section
