im looking to add some nice apps and possibly a theme and ive read somethings on installing cabs or exe's but im still having some small problems with them....was wondering if any experienced hd2 users would mind speakign with me possibly over msn so they come give me a few tips and reccomendations.....thanks in advance and great forum
anyone please help me im out im actually willing to pay someone for some help here......ill give 10$ paypal if someone will take their time out to help me
best way to start is by reading and playing. lost of people come here every day and say 'where do i start' without reading first. No one is being rude if you dont get an answer, but theyd be answering the same question every day.
Heres a good place to start
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Play with your device, and once you have a feel for it, you can ask more specific questions.
i have read many diff articles but to be honest ive never done much with editing of phones and dont want to do something to mess it up...im jus looking for someone to speak to for a bit and jus ask a few questions and some feedback on some apps and such....again anyone whos willing to help me i will give a donation to
Hehe, None of the tweaks and tips will damage your device, the worst that can happen is you have to hard reset (factory default).
(well, unless you start flashing roms, but you shouldnt go anywhere near that until you are confortable with the device.)
I'll cross my fingers for you that someone has time to chat direct to you.
I have been lurking here for a couple of months now. Trying different roms initially then flashing different kernels. I don't know much about this stuff at all but want to learn. Hopefully I can start learning some coding soon as well. I love this forum and watching the ways in which all of these different mods, roms, etc grow within the community.
From the beginning I have taken the word (rules) of this forum at face value. I have followed (and agree with) READING THE WIKI's. To me they are indispensable. I have read (yes even the 500+) all of the posts that I am interested in learning about. This patience has paid off! Every time I follow your instructions and search threads for answers to possible issues, everything turns out right.
Finally, I came into this forum not wanting to ask for ETA's. There are so many people here putting there daily lives aside, FOR DONATIONS, for our gratification. To me there is nothing more insulting than asking for something you don't deserve. Be grateful. Think about someone asking you to put hard work (time) into something for you that you may or may not get paid for. Charity can only go so far.
Thanks to all of the devs who put there hours into this. LIFE=TIME....
You obviously don't owe us your time.
Hopefully I can start really learning the languages soon and hopefully start contributing to take some of the weight off you guys.
Great job guys!!!!

I know its a semi older thread but I just wanted to echo this same thought & didnt want to start another thread.
As with Mattlebla I've been lurkin for the past few months. With all the hard work and donation of TIME from all the Dev's & ppl whom help others have absolutely given way way more value to us Hero owners.
To all the awesome Dev's we are extremely grateful, thankful & indebted to your hard work. Thank you so damn much! That can't be said enough.

ALL THANKS to the freakin' great community at XDA!
Wow, i take a look at these forums compared to where i am from, and i am blown away There are so many active developers, and so many contributors.. i will admit that i am minorly jealous
I come from the land of the Continuum, this phone's little sister... Which, in my opinion, has great potential to be such a great phone
But, over at our forums.... There has been a whole lot of "null" when it comes to development... We have our one Dev who has committed himself to us, and we highly appreciate him and all he does<3
But, i was curious if, even for a day or to, a couple of the amazing, talented, and honestly great Devs over hear could come and take a slight peek at our phone?
I would normally find this rude, to intrude on this whole different society like this, but since these phones are so much alike, i was hoping it wouldn't be that much trouble
If any of you devs are even considering helping our poor souls out, you will find that we over at the Continuum homebase have a pretty realible and dedicated testing ground.. Alot of people are willing to put there "stuff" on the line to help out with anything you want us to do...
Our source code is on the samsung website, we have a couple dumps, we have root, and we have a (for the most part) working CWM...
If anyone is willing to help,
Thank you very much
I'd be willing to come back if someone would set Bubby323 in his place and tell him to knock off the bull****.
Last time I tried to help, i got an inbox full of PMs of him arguing with me, and trying to one up me, and one time, even blatantly telling me not to release cwm to continuum users because HE wanted to.
Then a straight week of "help me" pms so he can get his kernel compiled properly.
If you guys can set him straight, I'll come back and see if I can help. Otherwise, you are allowing a 14 year old kid ruin the chances of the phone getting any help. I'm not gonna compete with nonsense.
Delete me....
I vote for you to please come back, don't let others with childish behavior ruin it for the rest of us. We sure needs your experties with kernel and ROMs to help us out. I hope to see 2.2 updates soon.
Please consider
Thanks
Adrynalyne, I'm with you 100%. Bubby has contributed NOTHING, and does not run the place. I might be willing to test some things on my phone, however the last modifications I made to my Continuum bricked it, so I'm going to be wary with this device. The Eris was a trooper and took a lot of abuse. The Continuum seems to be a bit more dainty.
This is exactly why i don't put my tine and effort into a communtiy that doesn't deserve it for the good people here you know who you are, the people that have gotten to know me, they know how i am. I come here to try and help you guys out and i get pelted in the face because im not doing anything? Pardon me for wanting to develope for you guys and expand my knowledge. I go to ask someone wiser than me for help and i get told that im too young. It always goes back to that, that in to young like are makes a diffrence. I ask for help understanding something i want to comprehend and im refused an explanation based on my age. Glad to know that the community is so kind. Not. Im not going to give up and leave you guys so others can say through out the fact im too young and couldn't do anything anyways. Im still here and im not leaving.

I vote for you to come back and helps us out adrynalyne of course that is if you want to. Like TrailBlazer said we have alot of people inlcuding my self that are willing to do alot of testing on there phones.
You're IRC channel is empty, I feel so alone
Its pretty dead everywhere. I posted a cwm package for folks to try early yesterday on xda and there is still no response.

Thank you for everything you have done, and hopefully will do..
I have no doubt that you have decent intentions for us, and i appreciate all that you are trying to do..
But lets put all this behind us, okay? We over at the Continuum boards want development, and we would really appreciate both you and Adry working on it I mean, we are spoiled We would rather have double development So, please... We don't mean anything bad by it, we just want some things getting done, you know?
oh, and get on IRC..
adrynalyne: I tested it and it worked! Thank you so much! (My reply was in the Continuum forum)
Id like to thank the D-bags for stressing Ax out!!!......Bravo[emoji19]
Seriously though why can't people just try and help themselves. I hardly post cause I hate being that guy. I don't even know how XDA could help the newbs but I totally understand how ax feels. It sucks cause I bet you people will not even take the time to read that post of his and then ask some dumbass question or complain.
Wow I just noticed he had the thread closed. Man come on people wtf!! He totally gave everyone a chance to back off and I'm sure more than half of the people here didn't even know
Been around a longtime. Unfortunately this isnt anything new. Im old, but Ax is older. We came from a generation taught to respect others. Thats long gone. Next time your out in public, look around at the people around you. Those younger folks are the future. Its a damn shame that respect means nothing anymore. Ax does fantastic work, he doesnt deserve to be treated like that. Those complaining had no business even flashing. They werent smart enough to follow instructions. +1000 for Ax

This is unfortunately what XDA has become. You either accept it or you don't because I don't see it changing any time soon. Continuing to open and close a thread because it's not going how you expect it to, I don't feel is the answer. You either do it because of your love for Android development and for the users that support your work and ignore lazy people. Or you just don't do it. Just my 2 cents.
So I have an idea. We have a great noodles friendly thread already open. Maybe we should just post a link to that thread as a response to every question that obviously should not be in a development thread.
I am just having a hard time believing there are that many incompetent people out there now that can't Google and find the answer for themselves.
Or maybe XDA needs to make it so the owner of the thread can pick who is allowed to post in it. Or allow people to down vote posts and if you get too many down votes you get blocked from the thread.
Just think something needs to change XDA used to be so peaceful and cooperative now I have to scan through 10 pages of arguing of flaming before I find any useful information.

It would be great on these beta roms if you had to be an advanced user with so many thanks/posts to even be able to download the rom. Way too many users have no idea what they are doing and refuse to try and learn. There were countless helpful posts and instructions in the op that were easy to follow. Im still running the US version with no issues.

Nothing that you guys will change em.. They have all been spoon def and people keep feeding. Helping is one thing and doing it for them is another. Feel sorry for the guys that did come here and glad that one of my friends didn't get this phone.. It is what it is and u till we all start letting them fend for thenselfs nothing will ever change. Look at how many lollipop is coming threads they have and still opening. It sad. Looking forward to be change.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
No one. I repeat no one should bug the devs. I'll come and see you.
But, isn't it a compliment when people are interested in your work and posting in your threads and pm'ing you at all hours?
How could you be glad people aren't here?
We have the only cool rootable and customizable phone.
You think the s6 will have this many devs?
Do you even flash roms?
Aren't you Mr. Stock rooted?
I think what really started the whole "do everything for me movement" was when a lot of stuff, like root tools became automated. When I first joined XDA, to even root your phone you had to know how to use a command prompt and ADB. If not, you were screwed. So it gave you the incentive to read and try to learn all you could. If you got stuck at a certain part there would always be someone willing to help you get through it but it was mainly up to you. Now, there isn't a whole lot that isn't automated. So new people get use to having everything done for them so there really is no incentive to learn. Then if something is not fully automated and you have to read or think a little bit people get lazy and would rather it be done for them. Actually it's not just XDA, it's pretty much our society in general. Myself, I loved trying to figure out how to do things and became somewhat addicted to it. Now had everything been automated when I first got into Android, who knows, I may be the same way.

Exactly. But it made you better
I love the vision roms.
Definitely flashed them on a lot of phones.
But, wouldn't a simple Q&A thread in Q&A like every other rom have prevented this drama?
Then people that like helping could help the noobs.
And, people that don't like spreading the android wealth could f### off.
Cant we just get along.
Even this thread is starting to bash each other about how they should run their thread or rom post. Everyone does things diffrent, and that does not mean they are wrong. We just need to respect each other and give thanks to everyone who develops-themes-assists in making these roms. Alot of time and trial and error goes into making these great roms, themes, and add-ons. All roms have their problems and all dev work hard to fix the issues and to bring you a working rom. If you want to vent then you get on the phone with ATT, Verizon, Sprint, TMO and complain to them. They are the ones that make this difficult not the developers.
It is very simple to post a question, or about an issue you are having,
1. read thru the posts to see if anyone else posted about the same problem you are having.
2. read to see if a fix has been posted about the issue you are having.
3. use the xda forum search and or use google to search your issue.
4. if you did all the above, then post your question or issue you are having, with a detail description of what you did to cause the problem, and lastly post a logcat of your issue.
5. then wait patiently for the dev or one of folks that are working on the rom to post a reply.
6. when your problem is fixed. then thank that person/s for their help.
7 Simple, it doesnt get any easier than that.
Alot of issues that most user have are created by themselves, by choosing not to read the directions, post throughly before flashing the item to their phones
Sorry i just had to vent.
Remember PLEASE and THANK YOU will get more help, than saying hey you need to help me out now.
Rooting and unlocking phones has come along way from back in the tmobile g1 days. These Samsung phones are stupidly easy to root and are already unlocked. I too remember the better years of XDA of educating yourself first by reading and then if you run into a problem asking for help.

sad to see him go, but i agree we should only have advance users post or even have access to certain threads...like a test of some sort, on basic andriod knowledge, with just enough time to google answers lol
He's closed those threads a lot and reopened them. Let's just hope he opens them again instead of having a debate.

Lol! If that's the case then maybe he just needs a break. Not really sure what the need is for drama. You can't let annoying people and newbs drive you crazy. I've been around xda for almost 9 years now and have seen many devs come and go. As great as devs are to xda, they need to remember this is just a hobby and the contributions here shouldn't be stressful. If it is... Then it's time for a break. Simple as that. There will always be irritating folks who want hand holding past the point of what is reasonable. Just ignore them after pointing in the correct direction if they continue. I'm not saying don't help. Helping others is everyones role here. You can't let the one's that take advantage of your help to abuse you or your generosity. There is a fine line and a lot of grey area in these regards but it obviously depends on the particular situation. My point is... this should be fun. If it isn't anymore then it's time to step back for a while.

The problem is that the noobs who create these types of situations are the same ones who would NEVER use a Q&A thread. 99% of what they need to know can come from using the thread search tool, yet they refuse to do that. Believe me, I'm sure that what made it into the threads from these isn't half as bad as some of the stuff he's getting in PMs. I did same thing Ax did and walked away, as I would get PM after PM demanding help, complaining about known issues that were being fixed, demanding ETAs, etc. This is supposed to be FUN. Sad fact is that the noobs don't understand that NONE of the devs here on XDA or anywhere else HAVE TO release their work. They could post screenshots of it and nothing else if they chose to.

What?? You mean posts like "My phone doesn't has data. how to flash?" aren't helpful? LOL
I agree 100%. Problem is that as I've noticed in life, the smart/hard-working are being outnumbered by the stupid/ignorant/lazy They be multiplying like rabbits.
These are really not the types of threads conducive to a development environment
This is basically a whining about the whiners thread
Developers who have lives and do this for a hobby, some times take on too much trying to please everyone....and forget to please themselves
And yes, members can be demanding, unfairly. This is where the other members of the thread should help out and politely guide and answer those members...taking the pressure off the developer. Official ROM Q&A threads are a great help.
But let Ax take a rest and come back even stronger than before...you are putting the same pressures on him with threads like this, though your intentions are good.
Thanks
Kenny
Hello world, full of Developers!
I'm a student and I use Grand2 & OnePlus2 phones.
I have very deep interest mobile phones/computers but I never get a chance to learn things about it.
I love tweaking/customizing phone/pc. But i never understands how it works inside.
I have very deep interest of learning these things. I am not interested in making because I want it so that I can help other people/friends and many developers who put their efforts hard and rock to give us best features.
I tried everywhere but found no help except like go read this/that etc etc.
All the time people just reacted "visit this, read this, watch this", but nobody supports me in full.
See, reading a book about it or watching a video won't help to learn the core things. It is necessary to read but practical knowledge/assistant is way more important, otherwise we don't have to go to sit in class and listen to lectures.
I watched/read many tutorial but I have now more confusions/questions than the answer itself, like 1000000:1 in ratio.
I know its hard to help the kind of help I am asking today. But helping someone is not that hard if you 'will' is very hard, because I have also helped unknown people with my full potential being knowing that it will take a lot and strong effort out of me. But I helped. and I believe people also help.
So, I am writing these stuffs here because I need a Friend, a teacher, a helper, a guide, someone who can help me understand these things so that I can one day give a strong/big feedback to my fellow friends/users/members/people around me.
I am Just a student. I don't wanna make money out of it, because its my passion, not my livelihood.
Because I wanna help people who love techs. I wanna be someone who can fulfills other members needs.
I just wanna help, but before that I NEED HELP.
I know this also that after writing this long, I may not find a single help, but nothing can stop me by doing this because what I see is a light of hope in darkness. So, I am on my way.
I am hereby, requesting out of curiosity and courtesy to help me by every means to learn these things.
Some friends may make a fun of me by reading this long shot but I feel sorry for them and really I am in desperate need.
So, If anyone is interested in supporting me happily, please let me know.
I use TELEGRAM app for quick-chat. So we can talk there.
Help me friends and let me help back!
Thanks.

Oh i see. We are kinda on the same page. I have a Grand 2 too and i am also slowly learning about rom developement.
Okay so i'll tell you basic thing about roms first. There are 2 ways to have a custom rom for your device. Source building and porting.
Source building is as the title says making a rom from source.
And port is like using the rom made for a similar cpu family device and editing it to run on yours.
Now both of them go a long way to learn. I can understand your situation as i am in the same myself. Just PM me i'll tell you everything in detail
