Thank You to Everyone - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hey everyone,
I wanted to taket the time and say a quick thank you to everyone that has taken time out of thier schedules to try cook roms, tweak registries, and build cabs to share with the community. Being a college student I can tell you that there are numerous times that I wanted to throw my device out of the window due to issues that I did not understand. I have always been fairly tech savy but I am new to the PPC WM world. I have always been able to visit this site for help, and to find whatever else I needed to unlock the full potential of my device. Even though I cannot donate to everone, I just wanted to let you know that your hours of hardword and frustration are very much appreciated by myself, all of the other members, and the thousands of un-named that visit the site on a day to day visit. Just remember this when you feel that you are not getting the recognization that you deserve. There are thousands of people out there that you help on a day to day basis. Keep up the good work and always remember that you are appreciated.
P.S. I was not sure wher eto post this but feel free to move it to whatever forum you feel would best suite it's needs.

I wish to do the same, just can't find enough word to show my appreciation. That is why I'm going to say one simple and huge: THANK YOU!

I too would like to thank all of the developers here. I can tell you I was about to buy a new phone when I happened across this site and brought my Blue angel into 2008 with all the wonderful ROMs and software found here. Thank you all no matter how big or small your contribution has been it has been appreciated. As I am not a coder all I can offer is support, which I try to do as regularly as possible here. To everyone keep up the great work.

I too would have to add to this. If it wasn't for this site and its hard working developers I wouldn't realize the full potential of my cell-y.
The only way I can contribute to this site is by donating to these talented and hard working developers so that they may continue to create some of the most usable/innovative programs only to ask for donations in return.
Much Appreciated to all....

Huge THANK YOU to all the cookers and developers indeed!

Without this site and all the people here my life would be shallow and meaningless misery...Well, not exactly, but thank you anyway!

Thank you!

Athena Development/Progress

Hi All.
Just to keep things in perspective, can we use this thread from here on out to report successes and failures of all development or progress with regards to:
CID Unlocking
Free Sim Unlocking
ROMs cooked or official
...and any other developments relating to the project.
Once enough positive results have been posted, we can ask Midget_1990 or another moderator to move this thread to 'Upgrades', but for now, I think more people visit this forum, which will give our project some more exposure for ideas and most importantly....Donations!
To donate to the development of the Athena Project and know what where your money is going please read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311651
Please post ideas for the project here:

Let's keep this thread for technical matters. Thanks for your support and help.
Copied post to here...hope you don't mind hdubli.

Friends of Athena.....how corny! ROFL.
All, we're glad to announce that Midget_1990 has accepted our offer and will be the first of 2 developers who will be working on the Athena for the solutions outlined in previous posts/threads etc.
Please don't bombard with pressurized questions like 'when will it be ready' and so forth. He and another developer (not yet chosen one yet - what say you all?) will keep us updated directly, which means all contributors on the mailing list will know as soon as we do, but the rest of the forum will be informed ONLY when we have something concrete to share.
No one is going to be holding out on you because you didn't or couldn't contribute financially or otherwise, we just have an obligation to those of you who have done so. We're talking probably same or next day notification to the forum if/when we have any solution that can be applied by all owners of the Athena, regardless of which variant it is, but ultimately that is not up to me, but the developers as they may breakthrough's for one device before being able to test it on another.
Also, closer to the time of a finished ROM, we could do with some brave souls who will do some testing for the rest of us. I'll be doing it too, so you won't be alone.
If you're interested PM me, apphoen or amongst yourselves and decide who will do it and post the finished list back in this thread please, so we know in advance who is on-board.
Thanks for all your support guys and gals. We all appreciate this community spirit and effort.

@All other contributors, please be patient apphoen is snoed under right now with his regular job, but will be sweeping this thread when he gets the time and will update the mailing list as soon as he can.
Don't fret if you have not heard anything yet via e-mail. That's why I'm keeping everyone informed until all is up and running.
Meanwhile the collection is going well and I am liaising with our mystery member to secure the devices. Just waiting on exact purchase prices and shipping costs etc.
Contributors Check your e-mails in about 5
So sorry about the long delay friends. Been inundated with PM's and the like.
Check your e-mails for a detailed update. Hope it got to?!?!
If you receive nothing within 15 minutes, I'll contact apphoen to see what I did wrong.
Don't worry I have a copy of it, so you'll definately get it today.

Developer Team complete...Welcome Jasjamming.
Friends...we're pleased to announce that we now have Mr BlackShadow Jasjamming on board.
We all know how beautiful his black ROMs are, don't we? So I won't spend any more time justifying this decision. I think I speak for everyone when I say 'Welcome aboard JJ we're glad to have ya.'
Now we have 2 excellent developers on our project, all we need now is more money to get the devices, so the party can begin.
I must stress that neither developer is doing this for monetary or device gain, but for the love it.
Midget_1990 was the only developer to actively take part in our forums and Jasjamming offered his help too as soon as he heard of our plight and offered his help FOC.
Having said that neither one of our developers would get very far without an Athena, so thanks to all the members that have contributed verbally/writing and of course our donators as this is what we are gunning for, 2 Athena's for our developers and some time for them to get acquainted with these devices, so I'll only say this one last time and won't mention it again.
Please don't pressure them, they will do what they can for us, but they need to work for a living too.
If we can gently remind any newcomers who may have missed these last few posts, then the community will be helping itself.
I has sent the e-mail to all the contributors via the mailing list, but obviously got something muddled up. It has more info on how things are developing.
Look out for an announcement from our webmaster boinger66 who has hosted and designed a beautiful website for further resources, info/downloads and hacks in the future, just for all variants of the Athena.
Nothing will be taken away from xda devs, only to complement it from the Athena development point of view, by having easily accessible info and software.
If anyone is not happy with where this is going, please say so. Don't forget it's non-profit and for the good of the Athena community.
Wow! Well done, looks like we've got some great people on our side now! I've been a member of this forum for some time now and every now and again people get together and someone organises something cool and community based like this. Jasjamming is the ultimate master chef- I used his Black ROMs on my Hermes and they were superb! Hopefully we can get somewhere with the CID unlock or Hard-SPL so that we can use customised ROMS!
Brilliant work so far guys!

I agree.
jasjammings black3 and 4 are ****ing fast, way faster than the other wm6 hermes Roms. i don't know how he did it and what his secret is but i can't wait for midget_1990 and jasjamming working on the athena.
thx for this project.
You're gonna hate me now...
After such a lovely announcement earlier, I have to sadly be the bearer of bad news....we've got to let Jasjamming go. I've PM'd and e-mailed him about this. Maybe he can cook up some seewt ROMs for us in the future. But right now after careful consideration I think it in the best interest of the development to prioritize our immediate needs rather than wants.
We have Midget_1990 as our chief ROM cooker and his experience/expertise in VGA ROM cooking cannot be ignored...our devices are also VGA ROM based, so having him on board is a necessary forgone conclusion.
I first approached Olipro last night, because he's **** hot on bootloader/low level stuff, just what we need to get our devices CID/SuperCID and Sim unlocked! I was impatient for his reply, and when I saw Jasjamming offering his help, I jumped at the chance fearing we wouldn't get another developer soon, but knowing that his specialty is also ROM cooking, but not VGA.
So...when Olipro got back to me with a positive 'I'm up for it', I couldn't say 'no' as he is exactly what this projects needs too. So he's now officially on-board. Welcome Olipro and sorry to announce your joining us under these circumstances.
I take full responsibility for the hasty decision, but I was just on a mission for the community and wanted any top developer out there without remembering what this project really needs.
We need the team we have now. Hope you're all still with me on this. Let me know if you disagree, but please remember...without CID unlock were screwed anyway as Jasjamming honestly admitted to me was not his forte.
So unless there are serious objections from the contributors, it's full steam ahead with our chief VGA ROM cooker and chief low level coder.
Sorry about the tacky titles.lol but you all know what I mean.
* Some nice member has donated 300 euros to the project. Many thanks to you from all of us.
Apphoen will e-mail us with a =n updated figure by tomorrow morning. There are a few niggling problems with the server, but rest assured we got some professionals on board that really makes our donations worthwhile.
Bad news. Our mystery member has not yet come through with the info we need to purchase an Athena. So as a contingency plan we have to donate more, but I think we almost have enough for the first device even at the dear prices they currently are.
I'll talk to Inkino tomorrow in Tottenham court Road and see if they can do anything for us as we want 2, but don't hold your breath...business is business.
Last but not least for tonight (I'm ending my 11 hour shift now)...I'll recap on who one might need to talk to, even as non benefactors as you're still beneficiaries.
Questions or help offered about:
Website development - PM boinger66 [Webmaster]
Coordination - PM Itxda or myself
Accounts - PM apphoen
Development on Athena - Midget_1990 & Olipro
or PM amongst yourselves and tell us what you want. We're not separate from you, just members like you gunning for the common goal of fully unlocking our devices so we can flash the WM6 ROMs of our choice.
That was yet another long post. Sorry peeps, but the contributors deserve the right to know where their money is going and the rest of you is us anyway, so you will be kept in the loop...just not as soon.

would it be cheaper if brought on a contract?
£119 on FlexT Web 'n' Walk 35 in store. If someone needed a contract coincidentally. But then if they nuke the phone, they have to go through T-Mobile to get another one...
They may be cheaper now as the web prices are reducing.
Yup - I also think it was a good call on the dev front - ROMs won't be any good if we can't get them onto the device in the first place... and while I like IMEI-Check, I can't see the point of organizing a mass-shipment of devices their way.
Having said that, I for one am willing to do another round of funding once we get started to get another dev on board... but we might even have to do that anyway to get another machine if we don't get a break on the price...
Al is not lost....
All is not lost yet my friends. Our mystery member and some of us have been in discussion and it looks like we might be getting the first device some time next week, but we'll keep you informed when it's concrete.

iPAQ 210/2xx ROM request, need your brains for WM6.5 ROM

Hey, i'm an iPAQ 210/2xx owner. Flar suggested i throw this thread over here for you geniuses.
There's lots of interest in a new ROM for the 210 since it has VERY capable hardware (pxa 310, 128RAM, 256ROM) but very bad firmware. Unit sucks, could become great: it's like a handicap driving a Ferrari... a bad idea. I already have a throw-together kitchen from a certain xda member, looking for people with know-how to use it. I'm NOT one of those people.
This thing comes with 6.0 Classic, and it is soooo slow. The consensus is that either 6.1 or 6.5 needs to be ported onto this, along with some reg tinkering too... but that will come after porting has occurred i assume.
I/we really need the help, and although no there's real promise of money (since when is cooking a paid job?), there would be TONS of donations for a fast and stable rom. I can almost guarantee that part. I'd dish a handsome amount myself. HP has given up support in first 6 months of release, so new ROMs are the only hope for the machine.
Anyways, i'm looking for people to help out. I/we would love to employ your skills; it will likely be the fellow iPAQ users here that can assist. I can update you or hook you up with the smarter 210/2xx users so you can get the full scoop. Please PM me on xda, and one of the "home bases" for the device is Brighthand.com's iPAQ 210 forum. Look forward to ANY BIT OF HELP you people can offer. This really requires lots of knowhow since (apparently) deliberate attempts have been made in the design to prevent flashing easily. Thanks for considering the task! And if you want to help, make sure you have a paypal account.
Dave
P.S. There are a few people (like me) who are willing to sacrifice their devices if needed. Peace.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387232&page=8
Sorry to disappoint, but that xda member is actually a Brighthand member who has been steadily trying to figure out the not-so-successful flashing portion of the project. Plus he doesn't have a kitchen except the throw-together one. It is made up of a 6828 kitchen but needs some retrofitting for VGA. So nope, unfortunately, not much progress.
If you can help, let me know, and i'll brief you on the deal. Peace!
Bump. Like 100 ppl have checked this thread, but no help. Give me anything, dudes. We really need some devs here.
Bump!!!! Guys i don't want to be bugging anyone, but there are BOTH htc AND hp devs on here. We need some propagation on this mission. Thx again.
So, mods, this project has been figured out. The ipaq 210 now has 6.1 and 6.5 which can be flashed, and this can be found on the 210 forum at Brighthand.com. Great work being done over there, and some amateur chefs with a lot of patience. possibly one guy from xda helping too i think.
So do what you wish to this thread. Thank you.
and just a note...
all too often do i get the impression that the big-wig xda chefs are sitting on some enormous throne, and we "petty" users must bow down to your acquired divinity. It's annoying. very annoying. after 250 hits on this thread, only one guy took the time to give me the link to an already dead-end thread, and that's it. but i'm sure you guys are busy installing lasers on your Magic's and your Vogue's, or developing uber-important apps like a nudy-background. wow. amazing. bunch o geniuses.
I would have at least appreciated this chain of events:
Randomxdaperson: PM to friend who remotely knows anything about ipaq, asks if able to help random person.
...(total of 3 mins, fifty key strokes, two krispy kremes).
FriendOfxdaperson: responds to PM, says either yes can help or no but maybe this guy/gal can help instead... (total 1 min, twenty key strokes, can of mom's pepsi in fridge).
Randomxdaperson: sends PM to new lead, so copy and paste old message to new lead... (30 sec, four buttons, two mouse clicks, two bowls of dad's Fruit Loops).
Guywhocanpossiblyhelp: replies to PM saying can't help, and no ideas, says sorry and good luck... (40 sec, forty strokes, wiping face in little brother's sock from ravioli).
Randomxdaperson: comes to this thread, says "sorry i tried but no luck. good luck. i care about more than just myself".
Obviously very difficult to perform. but alas, nothing precipitates. thanks guys. and seriously, i'm sure i'll hear more comments about how HP sucks and how i'm a newb or something, which is more effort than the total that had been previously put forth on this topic.
I'm kind of ashamed of this site. people are becoming increasingly correct when they joke about the illegitimacy, rudeness, and selfishness of this site. too bad, because this site is supposed to be a good community. Flar and the mods work hard, and the lower-level guys are always willing to TRY and give help, but most of the bigger guys are trying to help each other ONLY. the progress of the ENTIRE site depends on global help.
My bitterness is from a lack of response in MANY people's topics, not just my own. I've only made one thread. but i read lots. and the devs hardly care about anything outside of binary. so why don't you 01101010 01110101 01101101 01110000 00100000 01101111 01100110 01100110 00100000 01100001 00100000 01100010 01110010 01101001 01100100 01100111 01100101. grrrrrr. whatever, i suppose. maybe people need to change their attitudes. or maybe i've been seriously mistaken and this site is filled with wonderful devs who care. just my experience.
Frustrated,
Dave
Stop Crying and Help
I am assuming you own a 210. LOL. I doubt the virtual Tantrum you just through is going to attract many chefs to help you. (You, which also includes the rest of us who have been waiting for an upgrade to our device) I would recommend that you login over at Brighthand and test one of there ROMS, they are working on.
Another thing everyone can do is DONATE. One of the guys working on this project doesnt even own a 210. (I dont know if that is by choice or not) One thing I do know, donating to a developer is about the only way of showing sincere appreciation and respect for their time, talent and hard work they put into these projects, so people like myself(not so gifted and talented!) are able to use their brilliant creations. But I am sure you have already donated. Here are sone screenshots of 6.5.

So, Frustrated Dave, you think "maybe people need to change their attitudes. or maybe i've been seriously mistaken and this site is filled with wonderful devs who care. just my experience."-Frustrated,Dave?????????
Are you kidding me? Did you reread your post? It is MY experiece that this sight IS filed with with wonderful devs who care, and maybe YOU need to change YOUR attitude.
I really hope you are right. And because of people like globalbus and elektrownik over on BH forums, we've got some great new ROMs for the 210. globalbus doesn't even own a 210 and he still gave us a ton of awesome ROMs, and elektrownik basically had to learn cooking and modding from scratch. I was constantly gleaning xda in an effort to collect helpers and teachers for them (i know i don't have the skills to help them so i tried to find ones who did) but only one person (ariey) from xda ended up helping.
So that's what i mean. I'm upset because i feel bad for the time and effort that BH members spent learning from ground zero, and that time length could've been drastically reduced if more people here expressed the slightest interest in assisting them. I don't feel wronged for my own sake; i'm not that petty, even thought someone might want to suggest otherwise. So as i say, i hope you're right.
Dave

why do the devs do what they do?

first i must say that i am very grateful for the developers who do all the hard work that they do. i thank you all! also i really really hope what i am asking is not taken the wrong way by anybody.
my question is why do you guys do it? why do you guys do all this work and just give it away for free? do you guys really make enough from donations to make it worth it or what? are all developers just nice, giving people?
what are your day jobs? i'm guessing you guys aren't making enough money from donations alone to pay your bills.
again, thank you all for your hard work and sleepless nights!
'cause it's fun.

That's got to be one of the coolest answers I've ever seen ... And I would just like to thank you and all the developers that make owning an Android phone so enjoyable.
I have donated to many developers and worked closely with them in the past, and they did it as a hobby, but donations certainly never hurt.
I too am eternally grateful for the countless hours these developers sink into these projects.
95% of my enjoyment from smartphone ownership is because of all the cool stuff that i get to do with it thanks to them.. even though half the time i have no idea what im doing. thank you!
cause making key log and other spam on ur phone is fun ^^ jkjk

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this... I wanted to put it under the android development section, but didn't want to clutter anything. So, I am pretty much a noob when it comes to all of these modifications to phones. I have pretty much been reading these forums non-stop for the past few days, and the amount of information on here is incredible. Last night I flashed the Axura 2.2.6 ROM to my phone with no problems! I was amazed at how easy it was! All of the applications people developed are so useful like ROM manager and Titanium backup. You could never get these kinds of tools and info from the manufacturer. I am truly in awe of the smarts and talent the people on this website have. So thank you so much, for taking the time to create and put tutorials together, so people like me, who don't understand all of the programming language and resources needed to make something like a custom ROM come together, be able to reap all of the benefits my phone has to offer.
-Tara
P.S. I wanted to click the "Thanks" button on a lot of the threads, but it wasn't there?!
Glad to have you around and glad that the Forums helped you out. This is a tight group (most of the time) even if a lot of issues around Samsung currently going on.
Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to what comes out in the future for these phones... as far as controversey around Samsung... I was part of the group that was dealing with Motorola and the Motorola Cliq. I was able to get out of that mess and switched to the Vibrant, and I feel like I'm encountering it all over again. I know the manufacturers have no obligation to give us updates, but then don't promise it! And if it comes, it's kind of like a really nice surprise! When companies make promises like an upgrade by a certain date, and don't follow through, of course people are going to be pissed! But, with the help of developers, we can enjoy all the benefits the phones have to offer. And probably, the modifications made by developers are better than the manufacturers would do anyway!
Welcome
Tara, glad to have you here, as you already know these forums are a wealth of information regarding your phone. I also got to the vibrant from a bad experience with a phone. (the Samsung Behold II) Follow along, don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them, as someone will most always be there to help. You may even find like I did that you don't need to worry so much about the updates promised by TMO and Samsung. Most of the 2.2 ROMS we have available to us now are already beyond what the updates would give us anyway. So I would encourage you to read, read, read through the threads and to support the developers wether it be Team Whiskey, Master, Eugene, or whoever.
But most of all, welcome
Welcome, because of the people here you will so much more enjoyment from the phone. You are right the stock item is really substandard compared to the custom awesome work of the people in the android family and specifically this forum.
Keep reading, especially the stickys/bible and other notable instructions.
Enjoy and welcome
I have been lurking around<(creepy?lol) and reading the crap out of stickies here for about a month now, and I too would like to extend a token of grattitude to all of the extremely intelligent and helpful members here. Thanks for taking the time to explain procedures clearly and concisely. The custom roms and information you have provide truly make this device awesome.
-Brad
P.S. Sorry for jacking your thread Tara, but I didnt want to add another thanks to the general.
Thanks for all the friendly messages everyone! And that's ok Brad! All day I have been watching folders open on my phone, and just the way the flip out, out of nowhere, is so cool!!! I am just amazed at the work the developers have put into making these phones run so well. And, on top of that, sharing the wealth with all of us, and including step by step written tutorials and videos. They have my complete gratitude and I truly look forward to see what they think of next!

For you developers

Yes, another thank you thread. This is the one topic that justifies more than one thread. I recently pm'd a developer a lengthy compliment and received an interesting response.
As I read through the development forum I see too many posts asking for eta or complaints of bugs and *****ing about this and that. There is simply not enough thanking these guys for what they do FOR FREE!!!! we take for granted how much time and effort they put into their work and simply want want want and expect them to deliver like it's their dang job or something.
Instead of continuing to ramble, developers thank you for your time, free products, free labor, free mods, and I wish I had the power to banish those who ***** at you or put demands on you.
Guys, respect what our developers do and next time you think about asking about an eta or think about complaining, just say thanks.

Could not agree more. Thanks guys! (that includes gals in my book).
As a developer myself, although not in this arena, I know how much work it is, even though we would probably do it anyway just because we're wired that way!
I know the developer I spoke with was very appreciative of the message and stated that he wished there was more appreciation around. I just can't believe the audacity some people have to fuss at a developer or complain to them over trivial things. Obviously they should offer support but that is not what I am referring to.
And your reply reminded me that I did leave out the ladies! Thank you too lady devs! You're all the more sexy

There are always some aholes around. XDA is pretty big so by the simple probability there are bound to be few jerks around. You can ignore those people most of the times.
What I dont like that sometimes other members make too big a deal out of simple complaint in the developer section. Lot of people just flame someone because he asked something that has been asked 20 pages ago in thread or complained about something. Those are equally bad.
And then there are few developers themselves who are sometimes very rude to people who are just trying to help by pointing out some things or passing some suggestions to the developers. I wont take names but one developer simply told me that I dont need to give him any advice and I should stop using his work if I dont like the way he does it when I simply suggested something regarding the way he was managing files, that too via PM.
Its all part of the community though.
I agree respect definitely goes both ways. I also never have and never will agree with anyone flaming someone for asking a noob question even if it's been asked a million times. We were all noobs once and Lord knows search is a pain sometimes. And what does flaming a new kid accomplish anyway? Nothing.
Yes I've seen developers have bad attitudes also so you are right it does go both ways. I just hope that this place can begin to become more family and community like and less flame friendly although it's hard as it grows and the members get younger with no manners or respect.
I came from and still occasionally visit the evo 3d forum and it is way worse than this one as far as childish flaming and trolling.

Couldn´t agree more, thanks for the thread!
XDA Developers is so much fun! It so much became a hobby of mine, to read through the threads, to try out this and that, to flash roms on new devices (tablets, smartphones).
It was such a great experience to see my old XDA compact (HTC magician) getting reborn again every quartal after cotulla published a new rom for it.
Nearly 383984 devices later (feels like that^^) I´m on my second Note now. And it´s still so much fun to be here and to enjoy the work others are doing for free!
To all developers out there: Thank you so much for giving me that kind of entertainment AND professional support in the same time! Thank you for being allowed to be a part of this incredible community (and with community i refer to the hundreds of devs here, not the millions of users like me ). Thanks for your efforts and time!
If I was a millionaire I would definitely be donating to all of you whether I used your products or not.
And as a side note I wish there was more sharing and helping among some people. Some are too proud, I've seen some in other forums set others up and other dirty stuff which is ridiculous. Pride comes before the fall

Without the developers hard work, we all be stuck on using un-rootable slow often horrible looking stock UI from the manufactures with inconsistent update. I’d be better off using an iphone or a Nexus if that is the case.
Been able to run root apps and flash different ROM is what keeps me buying Android devices instead of an iphone.
Also it is great fun leaning how to root devices and flash ROMs.
So BIG thanks to all the developers on this forum for their valuable time and hard work.
