Hello there everybody. I'm new to this site and am also new to "rooting." I just rooted my droid x and by accident I deleted swype instead of skype. I can't imagine my phone without sywpe! How do I get it back? I tried going to 4shared.com and downloading it from there. But after I did it said that swype wasnt right for my screen size. I'm currently running 2.3 so if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
How could you possibly be running 2.3? Motorola hasn't came out with the kernel yet.
My suggestion would be either sbf or download the fission rom manager from their site and get the droid x swype add-on. Then bootstrap recovery and install it from there. It may be a good idea to mount system before installing too
Bookmark this site. It has all of the .APK files for the DX.
NATF Edit: Sorry guys, had to remove the link since it has the Swype apk on it.
fasthair
Edit: Sorry mods... I thought since it is a version of Swype that goes on the DX that it would be ok to link to it. It was my understanding reading the Swype press release that they were fine with people distributing Swype with themes and ROMs as long as the .APK was the proper licensed version for the device the ROM was made for. Is this not the case?
I'm not saying any of this to argue. I'm just trying to explain what I thought I knew. Again I apologize.
He probably just accident hit "3" instead of "2"

just thought id let ya know i lost root installing this as a rom for the droid...it keeps trying to reformat my sd card, it says i have a error on my sd card , i cant run rom manager because it says there is no su app found in /system/xbin but i do see theres a su app in system bin i thinnk? im going to try this once it gets a little further along i like it!! oh yeah one more thing facebook widget is broken once you sign in. its there and ok before you sign in but the second you sign in and go back to the home screen it says problem loading widget.
Theme is awesome! New links would be appreciated. And this does work on CM 6 RC1, correct?
Thx
You mind sharing the icon set?
Wifi doesn't work worth a damn, and I lost root access. Also, the links for the Metamorph versions are dead. This is very promising and I'd like to see it working better.
Hell, if even the WiFi worked, I'd keep using it..but it doesn't seem to.. unless flashing a different kernel will work? I should try that..
EDIT: Flashed a different kernel..didn't work. Still no WiFi, and no root access.
Great work, still buggy though, but it's gettin there.
Anyone can provide mirror to the link

Seriously if you're not going to post an update on any progress, it'd be awesome if you'd at least fix your dead links.

I am thinking this isn't a ROM, but a theme that goes over a ROM. Although some do not all themes contain ROMS. I D/L'd I did see a specific link for a Droid Ported version. However, I am not sure that the Milestone is included in that.

I noticed the dead link as well check out CM forums, got mine there and it works like a charm however there is still some more development going into this as the one I d/l'd for CM6 RC2 is a beta version. However this theme looks SHARP!! Another good place to look is on ROM manager Premium. This is probably the best I've D/L'd for sure. It has to be 'sup'ah dope,' to add to the already natural dope'ness Cyan6 RC2.
Can you specific the url for cm forum?

Does anyone know if there is a way to force-update the Market?
Never mind. It just updated. It looks pretty cool. It'll take some getting used to, though.
What about me?
Does anyone know if.
1. My cooked HD2 running SuperRAM Foyo will get the update.
2. or is there somewhere to find the updates apk file (if thats right terminology) to download.
Second post so be gentle.

Link to thread with updated APKs. Dunno if itll run on HD2 with android, but worth a shot. Backup first if you flash instead of installiing APK.
Hello Everyone!!
I recieved my DX last Friday and am quickly becoming acustomed to it. I do, however, have a few questions and was hoping that you could point me to the right threads or answers I seek.
First off, Rooting and deodex. If I understand things correctly, I need to do this before I can make any changes/mods. I did read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940986
It sounds pretty straight-foward and I'm not shy when it comes to doing this.
Second, start-up/running apps/battery life. I hear some people wishing for better battery life and others saying it's ok. I also read somewhere about disabling apps with a start-up mgr to improve battery life. Like a dummy I didn't bookmark the thread and can't find the info again. I'm curious about how to do this. Which apps can I safely disable without causing problems or making a brick. I really would like to get rid of CityID, amazon MP3, Blockbuster, and maybe a few others. There are many apps listed in the "running" section under manage apps, are all of these necessary?
And, Third, App Killers/Pgm Mgr's. Are they required/helpful? If so, any suggestions for a good one? I read about them in the post mentioned in Q2 and am curious. I'm not positive, but the thread I didn't bookmark may be elsewhere.
Thanks in Advance for any and all help and suggestions.
Mike
Heres a list some quick googling turned up on safe to remove apps in Gingerbread, nothing official, just what someone removed successfully
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/137295-gingerbread-apps-safe-freeze-rename.html
Here is a list I found for Froyo
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...vable-non-removable-root-pre-gingerbread.html
There are a few ways to freeze/remove apps, but the method I use is using Root Explorer, rename the .apk file of the app you wish to remove, for instance, in the folder system/app/ you can find "CityID.apk", I would rename it to "bak.CityID.bak", where the first "bak" is to change the alphabetical order to group frozen apps, and the second "bak" is to remove the .apk file extension.
Everyone has their own opinions on Task Killers, but heres two articles that make sense to me
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
Ok, this brings me to another, maybe dumb, question. When you say Gingerbread and Froyo, are they names for stock ROM's? If so, how do I know which one I have. I'm still learning about the DX and Android OS. I come from a Win6.x smartphone. The learning curve there was much shorter before I decided to flash a custom ROM to it (ookba's work is excellent, btw). Thanks for the first two posts, I'll read up and enlighten myself.
Android versions
They are android versions. Go to settings>about phoneand look for android version.
3.0.x is honeycomb
2.3.x is gingerbread
2.2.x is froyo
2.1.x is eclair
2.0.x is donut (i think)
Notice a pattern? I also came from windows mobile 6 so thats as far back as I know for versio.n names

Fern, if you haven't modified your phone then you have FroYo.

Thanks for the info! I'm 2.2.1 aka Froyo. Now this gets me started. Anyone recommend a rooting and/or deodex pgm?
I had posted in the a100 forum and was referred here.
My wife just got the 32 gig a200 and I was wondering about different apps like Beats Audio, Swype etc..
Right now it is all stock but wondering what the steps would be to root and add a new ROM to it..
Thank you for your time..

hbwelch's tool will root, flash recovery and kernel, and much more.
Thanks for your response..
I will look into it. she actually updated it today. so I dont know if I need to wiat for a new root. or if the update was minimal .. and I should go ahead an do it..
The latest update was June 22/23-abouts, and the tool still works on that update, so you should be fine. The tool is practically noob-proof (not calling you a noob, though), and very simple to follow.
I installed Swype beta using the Swype installer. Works perfectly. No hacking required, just need to sign up with swype for thier beta testing.

Thanks.. did they send you an APK or is it something I would need to sign up exclusively?
Sign up. You log in on the installer to download it. WiFi is recommended.
