Rootin no0b

Hello All,
as you can see from the title im a no0b ad Rooting the CDMA, while i have rooted and updated the ROM, i had a few questions the first rom that i have Found was the Fresh 1.1 Rom, I have since found the modaco ROM,
is there any major difference,
Also I cant seem to Update the Themes VIA "update.Zip" as it freezes so im assuming the themes i find are for different ROM builds.
Anyone that can toss me into the right Direction would greatly be thanked

you need to be really carefull where you are getting the themes from if you mess up and flash something for a GSM hero onto your phone it will brick it. I dont know where you are getting them from but I would make sure you stay in this sub forum untill you really have a grip on whats going on.
and if you are getting them from this forum then they may not be made for the rom that you are using.
do a search for metamorph its the easiest way to theme your phone if your new.

they are both great ROMs but my personal tase goes to the Fresh ROMs I think more than anything it comes down to 2 things
1: I like the rosie in Fresh compared to the stock one in MoDaCo
2: I like the fact that Flipz has removed a lot of the bloatware thats in the stock ROm where the MoDaCo ROM leaves everything in there along with adding some programs in. the only things I pushed back to Fresh where peep, IM, Sprint TV, and location service.
on top of that I have now added MoDaCo's custom kernel 1.1 and things seem much faster but who knows could be the placibo effect. and I have moded a lot of the fresh APKs. Changing the Dialer Changing the icons to the 2.1 icons added one of Noj's lockscreens and so on and so forth so I have really personalized Fresh Rom and its kinda hard to move away from that.

need a clear answer on this one

hey guys ive had a look through a number of rom forums and other stuff like that and i cant seem to get the answer im looking for. so let me tell you my story so you guys can understand what im looking for:
ok so i first got into xda forums and all that because i bought my legend, and it was awesome and what not, and then i get to uni and oh wtf i cant connect to the internet. so then i did some research into proxy settings and one thing led to another and i found out about these roms and rooting and whatnot.
anyways after playing around with a lot of roms and mods and yeah i found indigo bean to be the best rom for me, it would be that cyanogenmod but thats outdated and the camera doesnt work, and it would be azure if not that but azure doesnt let me connect to my uni network at all and yeah. oh and the proxy only works for browsers so its not 100% working.
ANYWAYS ive come to realise after unrooting and rerooting and back and forth that i prefer the original rom ie htc sense and all that, everything stock. however if i go stock it means i have the proxy issue again. now i found out about this "transproxy" app which from my reading actually allows you to use not only the browsers but also apps such as google maps, andorid market etc. however this still requires root access i read as well.
so now my main question is:
what is the most updated, stock rom with like apps to sd and you know all those standard features people like to have with root access which will let me use this "transproxy" app??
if someone could give me a clear answer or maybe some info on transproxy or any other help with my problem that would be awesome
thanks
EDIT: i just realised that im not meant to ask questions in this area of the forum.. its still related to development though lol
um well if its in the wrong place i guess one of the admins can move my question then? cheers
maybe trying this?
http://android-proxy.blogspot.com/2010/09/proxy-settings-android-application.html
only thing you have to do is rooting, afterwards you can install stock rom
yep thats the app i was talking about. the "transproxy" thing
ok so ive put this rom on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735299
and ive also installed the transparent proxy app
so tomorrow ill check to see if proxy works and if it does then well that was pretty easy and i probably didnt even have to post this thread
im back to square one i think, well not quite
this rom im using is kinda dodgy
like its stock, but its not stock stock
like theres a number of things that are annoying me
so uhhh yeah i reckon i might have to find another close to stock but rooted rom

Thanks for the detailed, easy to follow statement there.
You could try "cooking" your own ROM. It's actually quite easy. If you find the HTC-WWE 2.03 ROM (shipped-roms.com) for the Legend, and look into dsixda's kitchen (here) you can just put the stock ROM in, just add the rooting thing ("2. Add root permissions") and then build and flash that; you'll have the latest (ish) stock ROM with root access. Nothing else changed.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh thats interesting.. ive cooked my own before but that was only with other peoples roms. i didnt know you could grab one of those stock roms you find on that site and turn it into a .rar thing. well obviously you can do that i realise now but yeah nah thats pretty cool. ill play around with it, thanks

[Q] Fascinate Froyo Custom ROM ??

All : I rooted my Phone ! And installed a Super Clean Mod..
I really dont see the point of Mods which just remove bloatwares. I was expecting Froyo when I modded.
Reasons
1. I wanted Skype
2. I wanted Flash
Is there any good way to establish the 2 apps which I need ? Is there a Froyo custom ROM for Fascinate at all ?
Thanks In advance

Sorry to disappoint you but I would have done my homework on the subject first.
That said, Skype is in the market.

If you spent 3 seconds searching, you could have answered this yourself, and you also should have read the sticky before posting too...
^^There's a search button for a reason. And you're supposed to read stickies before posting. At least this wasn't posted in the development section.

Fixing the Market download error when flashing CM9 ROM's

I've noticed throughout threads that a lot of people have problems downloading some apps from the market when they flash CM9 ROM's over other or even the same CM9 ROM. I decided to just make a new topic on it hoping it will help some of you guys out. For some reason two files sometimes get corrupted in this process. If you have this problem the fix is very easy. All that's needed is to flash gapps in recovery again. This replaces the:
com.google.android.maps.xml and
com.google.android.maps.jar files.
These two files get messed up somehow and are essential for proper download of many market apps. I hope this can help some with this issue. Hit thanks if you want to or if you don't want to that cool too. I'm just glad to help where I can.

Sorry about that, I figured it would be since it had to do with flashing ROM's, especially ones that are still somewhat in development for the Incredible. This is crucial for getting some Market downloads to work properly on some ROM's.
Again sorry though and thank you for moving it to the proper place.

My escape route when in trouble!
Was reading thru some threads when I came across some newcomers crying out for help stuck in bootloops while flashing custom roms.
Since I was free.Thought maybe write my own experiences down and what I did to get out of trouble.
Hope this not so short essay help someone new to XDA.
Let me begin with ClockWorkMod recovery.
I for one, have installed two types of Recovery to be on the safe side.
Anyways having the two does not in anyway hinder either.
Therefore it is only and added advantage.
If that wasn't enough there are kernels which come with preinstalled CWM of their own.
At the moment I've got 3.
I switch roms very often. Many a times in the beggining I often made mistakes and always had to redo the whole procedure all over again.
That means from scratch.Flashing custom roms, rooting and then delve in CWM -
X-Parts by pvyPARTS
which I had to keep downloading again and again from market.
Real pain in the ass!
Now where did I stop in the procedure, yes, after CWM installation, fastboot flash the kernel and now use the CWM to flash the roms and the other zips.
Then came across another recovery tool.
RecoverX by LEDelete.
Awesome tool.Does the same more or less as X-Parts except you need to run this on your PC and bind it to your device.
Color is bright neon blue.Very nice visually.
So now what are my choices.Do I retain one and let go of the other.
Made some enquiries about having 2 recoveries.Feedback,no problems. Sweeeeet. I'll take both!
Then came the kernels with their own recoveries i. e -
mechmetal for FusioN kernels
Did the dancing act at the beginning and very stable versions now.
Thank you.
I'll have that too.The more the better since it was not corrupting my device in any ways.
Presently, very few mistakes in flashing roms. So less frequent flashing stock roms. Mind you,it does require me,at times,to do complete clean installs once in awhile.
For that I have learnt a few tricks.
Flashing stock roms-the usual flashtool.
Since I have the bootloader unlocked, rooting takes less than 2 seconds. Simply a marvellous tool. Thanks to:
AutoRoot by bazoocase
Can't escape downloading from Google play store though OR is there a way?
There is!
Am learning that now but I'm actually trying to get only my most needed apps such as Titanium backup,Astro File Manager, and one or two more apps with its contents and data.
Jesus H Christ, this is only the beggining. There's a whole lot more to learn. But I'm liking it!
So newcomers, this might help you in your stay here at XDA.If via this lengthly passage I am able to help A newcomer I am satisfied.
Note:This are pointers for newcomers who have problems during flashing custom roms and start CRYing when stuck in bootloops.
PS: All the above are true facts.
I learnt by making mistakes here and there.
I did a lot of reading, searching, sending out PM's not getting replies and reading, searching and putting forward questions all over sometimes in wrong threads too.
For that I had been abused and bombarded collectively. But hey, that made me be extra careful.
These would happen to you but don't give up.Practice makes perfect.Don't shy off from making decisions.
You are already here.People can teach your everything but at the end of the day you are the one who is going to press that execute button.
It will for work for some cos they did exactly what was needed to be done.It might not work for some cos they didn't.

LreadyIt is good to see a senior member-op putting up a thread like this without being a know it all, smartass twat! I'm sure all the noobies will appreciate it! I personally worked it all out with a full month of reading. I have a bad temper and did not feel like getting abused and tyrated for asking perfectly legitimate questions! I say the same to all who are having probs and are new, keep reading, asking questions and don't give up! Six months ago I couldn't even navigate these forums properly, now I test Roms and kernels for devs! My biggest tip is find a kernel with CWM preinstalled and prerooted custom Roms! Remember one thing too, Titanium Backup is your best friend and is worth paying for the pro version! I don't like anything that isn't free but TB is worth the money!
To the OP here I think it would be good to insert a nit more detail on how to do these things and use these apps in your thread for those not in the know, maybe even some links! It's alot of work but I think noobies will be grateful! If you want some help to complete a noob friendly thread for flashing/rooting etc. PM me and I will help you write it up! We will prob get berated by others because of similar threads, but I have found them not noob friendly or incorrect! The only reason I still a junior member is because I have not bothered to make posts as have not had anything useful to say till recently!

Similar to the existing stickys, which are highly under utilized by new members, and as shown on a few occasions, by senior members too. Read Read Read, practice practice practice, is the only way anyone is going to learn, and I know because it's what I had to do for similar reasons to you when I knew absolutely nothing when I first joined, and if you're serious about learning how to tweak and mod Android then you need to be prepared to spend an hour or two sat at your computer, as you're not going to learn everything over night, in a week or even a month, and 3 years later you may still be learning, as I continue to.
