HTCSense.com & Picasa PlugIn - Update from HTC - Desire HD General

I emailed HTC regarding the Picasa Web Albums plugin not working correctly on my DHD. I get the error message advising my Google account is not linked to Picasa Web Albums, which it is!
Anyway, they replied to me with the below email and thought i should share this.
Dear scotia_rfc,
Hello scotia_rfc and thank you for getting in touch with us about Picasa and HTC Sense.com
Just to let you know that the problem is not with your device or your Google account or even the Picasa applications, but with HTC Sense.com
The problem with HTC Sense.com is that it is not yet a fully functioning website and the facilities on it are relatively unstable and constantly being turned off as and when the IT gurus need to play with the coding.
HTC have decided that they would allow the public access to the website so that they could see it and get used to the new functions and facilities provided by the website.
I do apologise if this has caused you any inconvenience and I have already escalated this issue up to our Marketing and Development team for investigation.
I hope that this has answered your questions, if you have any more problems or questions in the future please do not hesitate in getting in touch with us again.
All the best,
Carl.

Thanks for the info. That's quite interesting, but good of them to admit that it is really a beta and not the final product.
Shame they didn't say that earlier, but still good of them to admit it. I do like HTCSense.com, it's a very good idea. Hope it settles down eventually.

I got. The. Same error with flickr i just installed leedroid 1.4.1 and then i don't have any ota error?

Perfectly working with Android Revolution HD 2.0.5 ROM.

Got a solution -> see my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10697196&postcount=66

All very well being honest about the website issues but it shouldn't have been launched if it's not ready for primetime.
Jon

That's not a smart thing to say for HTC. The Desire HD and Desire Z / G2 were advertised heavily with the HTCSense.com website and all that had to offer, the main benefit to me being security and additional widgets from HTC at a later date, and now some CS guy says, "Sorry, yeah, it's beta so it's to be expected"? I don't buy that one bit.

If they are "allowing us to see what i looks like" then they shouldn't be advertising this as feature. I'm sure we could all demand a refund as we have been sold something that doesn't work.
What total crap, of course they haven't allowed us to see what it looks like. It just doesn't work!

I wouldn't go so far as to say they shouldn't have launched it, maybe a whopping great Beta sign on the front...
Just not a perpetual Beta like some of the old Google sites used to be, remember how Google docs was beta for what seemed like forever.

Omg you guys are like vultures, HTC has neva hid or denied the fact that sence.com and HTC Hub is in beta, WTF is all ur problems? Do people have a go at microsoft when they release an alpha, beta or rc version of windows. Just cuz everything dosent work? Talk about ungrateful

Last time I looked HTC weren't advertising HTCSense.com as a beta service - in fact the service is central to their marketing for this device. To claim otherwise is just retarded.
HTC have only fessed up under pressure from disappointed users. Seekdroid FTW btw.

Would you prefer it if HTC didnt do a public beta? They could do an inhouse beta, and when sence.com is ready next year, they could release it for the new devices, obviously the DHD wouldnt be one of thoes devices! Atleast by being the testers we are ensuring that we will get the full version of sence.com when it goes final....
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

But that's the point: HTCSense is being marketed as a live service - not a beta - and is clearly defective.

No but they at least have the curtesy to market it as beta. No where on htcs site does it say BETA. In fact its pretty much the pillar of there marketing for the DHD.
Oh and btw when paying nearly 500 for a handset and expecting the functions to work aint ungratefull chump go buy a car with no wheels then try not to complain.

I can't upload to picasa through the gallery =/

crazy ass motherfaka
to be a sign that Android 2.3 is almost there, Facebook for Android and Twitter apps should have been released for Android 2.3, not just an update for Android 2.2, I guess
Considering the twitter app was developed inhouse at google, I'm going to say yup.
The only reason I can see them creating new Facebook and Twitter apps *FOR* 2.3, would be because they had new features that would only work on 2.3.
Since they've already released it for 2.2, that means no new features, so what would be the connection between the apps and 2.3?

Why do you need signs? 2.3 is almost here. Gingerbread statue is unrevealed, new API levels were shown so... it's definitely "almost" here.

Twitter was done internally at google in an attempt to show where the OS will head in terms of asthetics post-froyo.
It was done as a proof of concept.

It's a possibility the design cues will be similar.
We've seen the "thin line" and flatter buttons look on voice search already.
Gmail has those same dividers. The flat palette is also there (when you delete an email you get a green dropdown with white text).
The assets recently dug up inside of the latest Gmaps apk shows the squarer look.
Google has been minimizing resource dependency on all fronts. Removing gradients from images will have a great impact on image assets being pushed over networks (this has more to do with web apps than android apps, but I digress). They have a certain "look" that you can pick up from in all of their products, and it's making it's way into android.
What I meant by early look, is that the team putting the twitter app together has alreayd been working with gingerbread, and possibly honeycomb already.
Personally, I think all the nexus 2 talk has pushed gingerbread to a second thought in the nexus forums. As for gingerbread itself... it will get here when it gets here.
OMFG. I just realized the 2 and 3 buttons are next to each other on my laptop. That must mean 2.3 is coming soon!

Facebook and Twitter are for teenagers and twenty-somethings. Like the famous last words of John Wilkes Booth, "useless useless" .
Someone one facebook, credible friend of mine, posted he just got the update to 2.3 on his phone.
I asked him what phone he has, he hasn't responded yet.

Sense 2.0 on Evo 4G

Hey everyone, I was a little bored and I got curious as to when the new Sense UI would wind up coming over to the EVO. So, I did the best thing I knew how to do, I googled it.
And I found this, A guy named ONIXBLACK over on android central sent HTC (and Sprint, but he's waiting to hear back from them still) an email asking them about this question.
Here's the link if you choose to follow that thread for updates: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-rep-has-say-about-sense-2-0-gingerbread.html
This is what they told him:
"Dear (MY NAME),
Good question, (MY NAME). I would be more than happy to provide you with as much insight as I can.
All I can really say for sure is that the Evo is going to get an update of some sort to, at the very least, address a few issues with the last update (streaming media, battery life, and a few other problems that have arisen). I have a feeling that this may end up taking a while, since we're thoroughly investigating the battery drain issue, and we want to make sure that it's 100% resolved, prior to releasing another update for the phone. You can, however, follow us on facebook and twitter. Once that Evo update is ready, we'll definately make an annoucement through both of these websites, as well as HTC.com.
Will this update contain the the latest Sense UI update? It's tough to say, a lot of carriers prefer not to share a full list of enhancements with our technical support reps, as they prefer to go for the surprize approach. I would imagine that with the Evo being Sprint's first 4G phone that in order to remain competative with Verizon's Thunderbolt and AT&T's Inspire, I can only really _guess_ that the Evo will eventually see the latest Sense UI (not only that, but speaking from personal experience, the Evo is the phone that we recieve the most request for the latest Sense UI). Bottom line, though; this is something left up to Sprint. We've forwarded many suggestions and many requests for this enhancement, so Sprint knows that interest for this exists.
Can't make any promises, but from what I've seen, I remain optimistic.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us, (MY NAME).

EDIT: I also asked about Gingerbread but she dodged my question
So far I have yet to get a response from Sprint"
I'd like to think that's pretty promising to me, but one can only hope.
Sweet. I really hope that the EVO gets the new sense 2.0 update. makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside when you read that email/question
As far as I can tell, he just received that email and posted it today too. So heres to hoping!

What a joke. Try harder next time onixblack.
HTC at least hires people that can spell 5th grade level words properly.
Or you could flash a rom based off of Sense 2.0 and have instant satisfaction.

Yeah... I didn't have to read the whole thing to realize it was fake.
I was in a Sprint store. asked one of the techs if the Evo was getting GB, he said "what is that". lol
Me personally I would rather have Sense 2.0 then Gingerbread. I have tried cm7 and really don't see all the hype. Gingerbread is just a skinned froyo to me. I must be missing something. I will wait for Ice cream.
I know there are some enhancements done but nothing I would cry over. Bring on Sense 2.0

Desire HD apparently getting theirs OTA now. Surely ours should not be far behind.....Surely?
What it means when ours is released is hopefully rmk40 will release an official virtuous 2.0 rom. It might also move us closer to the point where they release the kernel source and we can start seeing overclocking kernels for Gingerbread sense roms. (and trackpad wake etc)
According to Engadget:
"That just leaves the Desire Z and original Desire, both of which should be joining the party by the end of June. "
So more or less two months later. No matter, maybe they will make even more fixes and changes for us. (Maybe a version of Sense 3.0 for our "weaker" phones - but I doubt that)

Given the track record with everyone involved regarding prompt releases (Google, T-Mobile), it'll be at least November before it's actually available. How many months were us old Dream users waiting on Cupcake? Donut? Eclair (which turned out to be vaporware for the Dream)?

Funny answer of HTC :D

I told HTC that Desire S and DHD has similar specs -as everybody knows- and nearly released at the same time in my country (Desire S released 3 months later). I bought a DHD. Desire S was cheaper. I know HTC announced that there will be no official Sense 3.0 update for DHD but I said If there will be no update for DHD, I'll sell it and buy a SGS2 and never turn back to HTC again.

IF HTC DON'T HAVE EXACT INFORMATION, WHO HAS
Oh my god... I laughed so hard there was goat milk pouring out of my ears... Yeah, seriously, if they don't have the answer, just WHO DOES?! The fact that they, who should have the answer, actually don't have the answer, is indeed hilarious!
Except if they do have the information, but don't want to tell us?! No, no, I'm just talking nonsense, it can't be it... But if it was like that, I reckon it would be even more hilarious, my head would probably explode from all the hilarious-ness! Do inform us if you find out anything like that, please, because this was just pure comedy, right here, it really was awesome, quite hilarious...
As far as I know, sense 3.0 for HTC saga was a leaked. IMO, its pointless asking their support for answers. Since its not official out yet. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

I decided to ask for Sense 3.5 and ICS update. The possible answer is "I should ask mike1986" :-D

Even though I do get the joke, I have to ask you 'What did you expect?' Obviously solmeone who works in a call center doesn't know **** about unofficial projects and even if they do they can't tell you due to company's policy. Obviously they can't tell you sth like 'It's in beta phase now and we are testing it so keep your fingers crossed and hope we release it this month'

If this is real a policy for the company they ALL should stfu about the unofficial projects. HTC twitter account announced that "“due to Sense’s hardware requirements, only our newest devices (Flyer, EVO 3D, Sensation) will be able to support it.”. But now it seems that Sense 3.0 is coming for DHD and Desire S. So if they "unfortunately don't have exact information about sense#3.0 for DHD" they should shut up and should not mislead the users of other devices.

Like I said, Yahoo really loves the HTC ONE

Yahoo doing HTC a huge favor by freely advertising their product. Still a little bitter that I won't be able to get a 64gb Dev Edition and have it work properly on TMOBILE network ;/
But anyways thought I share this

You do realize this is just a copy of a BGR review right?
Fox and MSNBC both do the same thing.
