crazy ass motherfaka
to be a sign that Android 2.3 is almost there, Facebook for Android and Twitter apps should have been released for Android 2.3, not just an update for Android 2.2, I guess
Considering the twitter app was developed inhouse at google, I'm going to say yup.
The only reason I can see them creating new Facebook and Twitter apps *FOR* 2.3, would be because they had new features that would only work on 2.3.
Since they've already released it for 2.2, that means no new features, so what would be the connection between the apps and 2.3?

Why do you need signs? 2.3 is almost here. Gingerbread statue is unrevealed, new API levels were shown so... it's definitely "almost" here.

Twitter was done internally at google in an attempt to show where the OS will head in terms of asthetics post-froyo.
It was done as a proof of concept.

It's a possibility the design cues will be similar.
We've seen the "thin line" and flatter buttons look on voice search already.
Gmail has those same dividers. The flat palette is also there (when you delete an email you get a green dropdown with white text).
The assets recently dug up inside of the latest Gmaps apk shows the squarer look.
Google has been minimizing resource dependency on all fronts. Removing gradients from images will have a great impact on image assets being pushed over networks (this has more to do with web apps than android apps, but I digress). They have a certain "look" that you can pick up from in all of their products, and it's making it's way into android.
What I meant by early look, is that the team putting the twitter app together has alreayd been working with gingerbread, and possibly honeycomb already.
Personally, I think all the nexus 2 talk has pushed gingerbread to a second thought in the nexus forums. As for gingerbread itself... it will get here when it gets here.
OMFG. I just realized the 2 and 3 buttons are next to each other on my laptop. That must mean 2.3 is coming soon!

It's all speculation. Google tends to stay pretty tight until they have a press conference or release party. Look at FroYo - it was a total surprise to wake up and find that they where dropping source into the tree.
The blog-o-sphere refers to Gingerbread as 3.0. I believe that Google has round-about-ly confirmed that the name is in fact "GingerBread", but we won't have a version number till they drop source in the tree again around November. Judging from the speculated improvements, it should be a major version number change.

My guess is 2.3 is correct, jumping a full revision number such as to 3.0 would generally indicate a partial or complete rewrite of the core code.

Google has said that they will be slowing down after GingerBread(regardless of the version number). My assumption is they did not expect such rapid growth of the platform and users need a fully functional OS to make it worth buying into - A phone any more is not a quick purchase, there is a lot of investment in hardware and software. Where as with feature phones they where cheap(in comparison) and easily replaceable.
From what I remember seeing, the next update is to have some big changes making it most likely 3.0. All speculation though.
Personally I'm happy android has been updating quick. Keeps the phones newer fresher feeling longer and fixes problems quicker. I came from winmo and never got fixes and the roms bored me. Plus I really hated 6.5.
I'm holding out until December to upgrade and debate on new phone or used evo. I've been out of contract for 9 months now.

Somebody probably changed the build.prop or something.
Seems like if Gingerbread is suppose to be official before the end of the year, something should have leaked by now. An early test build, some screenshots, maybe some video? All we have seen are a couple of shopped screenshots that show 3.0 as the build
Someone out there must know or have seen something Throw us a bone here!
It hasn't been leaked because you touch yourself.
Because people don't like breaking NDAs and losing their jobs?
Google will release it when they release it.
+1 to the poster above.
And judging by Froyo experience, I guess Nexus users will see "semi-official" test builds way before the official release, once these builds make it to beta stage.

Well that's what I'm saying. When Google showed Froyo at Google IO, it didn't OTA until almost 2 months after that. I was assuming that we would see a Gingerbread OTA before the end of the year. If timetables are similar that won't happen.

a google campus recruiter was at my university today. he was playing with a nexus one so i told him that i have one also. he said his was different so I asked him why and peeked at his screen and he suddenly pulls down the notification bar and says "oh it has at&t". this seemed like a silly reason so i asked what build he was running and he told me he couldn't say. I asked if it was gingerbread and he said yes. i asked him if he could tell me about new features and he said no.
i got some google chapstick and a google pen though.
I have been hoping leaks would start soon considering Gingerbread is supposed to be unveiled in mid October. I expect to see devices in the latter part of Nov.
Just like when 1.0 was unveiled and 2.0 was unveiled. They were followed by a device about a month after.

no. the sdk is released ahead always. what good is an OS update if most of the apps won't even run on it? it is giving the app devs a head start. the source is usually released a couple weeks after the official build is released as in OTA

I think it may be possible that it will be released next week.
All rumours have stated that Gingerbread will be ready/released in October. Paul O'Brien of MoDaCo posted on his Twitter, a week or so back, that there were gonna be big weeks ahead for Android and Windows Phone 7. Windows Phone 7 has officially launched so that is done, so just the big Android stuff is left which could be Gingerbread.
Also I think Gingerbread will actually be Android 2.3 and that Honeycomb will be Android 3.0. Andy Rubin mentioned 2.3 and 3.0 in a recent interview so as Gingerbread is coming out next, it must be 2.3!
All just speculation though! We'll find out next week!
EDIT: Just seen this article which states that video calling may be in Gingerbread and that several sources have said Gingerbread is going to “change the way we use our phones.”

Because Samsung never have to made products that needs long term commitmenets. They make TV, Monitors, and Flash Disks, and dumb phones which were all sales are final kind of product; as long as there are no large manufacturer defect, it's pretty much end of support - minus some lemons.
They did have the omnia series, but they develop the OS in house, but was also slow as hell to push out updates. That's the only counter argument I foresee.
Overall, Samsung is just very bad at software, kind of like Sony before PS3.

yea i just found it weird the SS said 2.6.35.7
and my kernel is 2.6.35.11 using netarchy, its pretty obvious its using stock 2.3.2 kernel
It says 'test keys' & 'user debug' in the build string, it's pre-release software. No reason to doubt it just because it's kernel isn't bang up to date.
Technically 2.6.35.7 is up to date with the official nexus s kernel, my builds have a newer base because i updated it manually, among many other changes.
It's not so hard to believe that the screens could be from a test build.
this might be a early pre build.
but wont be looking like 2.4

No it's not. Not even close, what a crap analogy.
You do realise Gingerbread isn't the name of the OS, it's Android.
Android Gingerbread will look like Android Gingerbread whether it's 2.3.x or 2.4.x
Windows Vista will look like Windows Vista whether it's SP1 or SP2
Also what the other guy said, you've shown 2 pictures of skinned Android. Good effort.
That is Froyo.
That is Froyo next to HTC Sense.
That is Sony's skin
Oh gosh... none of them look like stock Android!
Xperia arc using 2.4 is a error. This just proves how easy it is to edit android version.

Firstly, Skogberg pours cold water on reports that some of the Arc devices shown at CES were running "Android 2.4," saying that it was the result of a "misconfiguration," and "nothing to get too excited about." (As we all know it takes about 30 seconds to change the Android version number on a rooted phone, we're inclined to believe him.)

To be fair, that statement means nothing. Companies will deny anything that leaks out.

No the picture itself wasn't, but the content could be classed as such.
I'm pretty cynical, it comes from being a football fan in the UK, any club news, true or false, tends to be denied off the bat.

What content? The content of the picture? The picture proves that in the build prop of some phone it says 2.4. Actually, it doesn't even prove that because anyone with any ability in photoshop could edit a picture to make it look like a phone was running something. What it proves is that there are phones. Yay. Until there is evidence that can be checked and substantiated this thread is irrelevant and should be closed.
EDIT: Even if the phones are running 2.4 it shows its a development build and there is a great chance the phone is tester. We had a similar issue on the Epic; for some reason someone got a developer's version of the Epic (earlier hardware version; .4 instead of .5 like everyone else) and as a result got a test build of froyo called DK28. As far as I know its still what most ROMs are based on but they still don't officially have froyo yet.

It's a OTA so it'll be rolled out in stages. Not everybody follows Android websites, it's supposed to reach everybody in four days. For people who follow Android websites, they can manually push the update.
