[Q] Email tiles don't update and can't send text messages - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi folks,
I've configured my two email accounts successfuly but the tiles don't update according with the number of email received. Basically the tiles behave as if no emails are received
Other issue i'm encountering is the fact that text messages are not being delivered and on the phone i get no error. Although i don't receive any delivery reported.
Any one else experiencing any of these issues too? any solution?
Big thanks,
Ernesto

what kind of mail server you use (imap, active sync/exchange, hotmail)?
Your phone works well (do you loose settings after power off and on?)?
i dont face this issue with exchange active sync.

Same issue. I did configure Live, FB and Outlook accounts. My settings are also correctly saved.

1. I have set up my Hotmail account and dont face such issues. Number of newly arrived mails are shown correctly. But again, this might be cause i only have set up the hotmail account.
2. Concerning the text messaging problem, I havent faced the problem of undelivered text messages yet. But just for the record, the message delivered function is working for me. Might be an issue with your provider?
3. Although there is one update problem I am also facing:
When having 3 newly arrived emails, the Outlook tile shows the correct number of new Emails (in this case 3). But when I enter Outlook on my WP7 and leave right away withouth having looked at any of the new messages, the Outlook tile is back to zero, meaning showing no new messages, although i havent opend the newly arrived emails.
I am not sure if this is intended to work like this, or if this is due to that it is a ripped WP7 OS. Mayby somebody owning a real WP7 can shed light on this matter. I also is not a big deal for me, but nontheless, it would be nice to see the number of unread messages on the tile.

For me none of my tiles is updating. SMS, E-mails. Any solution yet?

Worked perfectly, thank you.

Problems with Gmail POP3

Hey all,
I've been having some problems with POP3 and gmail on my TyTN/8525. That problem being: it doesn't work anymore. It worked great for about a week, then just stopped working for no apparent reason. I didn't change any of my gmail settings during this time.
After it stopped working, I randomly got 5 of the 100+ e-mails that I was suppsoed to get. Gmail is receiving them fine and I can see them when I login to gmail, they just don't get downloaded when my phone pops it. I can send e-mail through gmail's pop fine.
Anyone have a clue what my problem might be?
Thanks,
Todd

Which wireless provider?
Have you tried deleting the Gmail account on the TyTn and then re-adding it?
Can you POP3 access it from you'r home computer etc (to make sure it is not a Gmail issue)?
If these do not help post you're setup so we can take a look
I think the problem seems to stem from the fact that Gmail breaks down your messages in groups, like around 300 or so messages at a time. On top of that, Pocket IE doesn't download the full messages by default and, as such, leaves a copy of the messages on the server. I think when this happens, Gmail doesn't prepare the next "group" of messages to send to you. Also, Pocket IE, by default, is set to show only messages from the last 3 days, so even though it may have downloaded a bunch of messages, you'll only see the ones that are 3 days old or less. You'll want to uncheck that option.
Try setting up your account as you normally would in the desktop mail app of your choice, Outlook Express for example. Make sure it isn't set to leave a copy of the messages on the server. If Outlook Express didn't download the first group of messages, make sure to do a manual send and receive. That will hopefully tell Gmail to prepare your next group of messages. Alternate Send/Receives with your phone and Gmail until you get to your most recent messages. Also, try putting recent in front of your user name, IE, "recent:[email protected]" instead of just your user name/e-mail address.
i find with gmail that it stops working every few weeks and i have to go into gmail on my pc and re-check the Get all pop email from now, ( it seems there are too many emails to be sent down )
using the "recent:" prefix before your login in your outlook username should fix this.

Gmail - "inbox" label disappearing

Hey there,
I just love the Hero. There are a couple of minor things that I hope will be fixed at some point.
One big gripe I have is that sometimes my "inbox" label disappears and emails that were supposedly in my inbox are only found with the "all mails" label. Once, my entire inbox was cleaned out this way, but more frequently random mails are moved to the "all mails" folder. Synchronization with desktop works flawlessly, so the same appears then on my desktop.
Anyone else has this, or is this my imagination? If so, I guess it's some kind of bug with the gmail synchronization mode...
Thanks.
not had this yet, and i've not heard of anyone else getting it.
you're not checking it on your PC or anywhere else by Pop 3 are you? cos gmail does some strange things when you access it by POP3, whereas IMAP seems to work fine...
nope, not checking on pop3 (i did some time ago). and this inbox label disappearing thing started some days after i got my hero...

Mail showing one too many

I've got an odd problem at the moment in that the mail tab is showing one more number than the number of messages. Even when I delete all the emails it still shows "1" on the tab.
Any ideas why that is?
I think I know why
my guess is that there is a mail from microsoft in the inbox. Check the oldest mail you have. It should be the welcome mail. Hope it solves the issue.
I don't think it's that as I've deleted everything in the inbox so it's totally empty and t still says one mail. Hmmmm.
I know this is a pain to do, but delete the email account and recreate it.
That should solve the problem
Fixed it! I didn't realise I had two inboxes, there was my normal one I use and there was another outlook one with an email in there saying welcome (like you suggested dashrink).
All working now
This is a common problem. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330676 for a fix.

GMAIL Label Push/Notification BROKEN?

There's been some sporadic posts of this around the net, but nothing concrete.
I've got a AWS N1 on WIND Mobile (Canadian company) and GMAIL push works perfectly fine (basically instantaneous) if emails lands in my Inbox.
If however, email lands in a Gmail Label (that is set to auto-archive, ie. bypass the inbox and go directly into the label), the N1 will NOT notify me that I have new mail.
So basically:
Email ---> Inbox = Notification
Email ---> Label (w/ archiving) = NO Notification
Has anyone noticed this before? Is this just the way Gmail functions on the N1?

Well, that's how Gmail works... on your PC.
Ok, gmail labels are somewhat confusing, so I'll explain how they work with an example:
Open up gmail.com on your PC.
Send an email to yourself that will get autoarchived.
Will the email show up in your inbox?
No, because it's autoarchived.
So why would you get a notification on your phone if you don't get a new email in your inbox?
Get rid of the auto-archiving if you want the notifications to pop up.
Notifications on your phone mirror your INBOX.

Which leads to a problem i occassionally have; I have my Gmail box set up for multiple inboxes; everything from my MAIN Gmail address comes into the inbox, as well as everything from 3 other gmail address; the other three however, are autolabeled upon receipt respectively; every so often, I'll get an email on one of these 3 emails. My N1 will show that I have an unread email (across the top, it'll say "Inbox (1)"), but I can't see the actual new msg. I'll then log into my main gmail account on the PC, and sure enough I have a new email in my inbox, with both the "inbox" and alternate label applied. Once I mark it as read or delete it, my N1 then shows that I have (0) unread msgs. It's random, and doesn't apply to just any single email address I have funneled into my main Gmail Inbox. I'm at a bit of a loss. If anyone has any constructive ideas (besides "don't use multiple inboxes), I'd love to hear them.

Changes labels to all mail, then change back to inbox.
You'll see the unread one there.
Thank's for straightening that out Paul.
I figured as much, but just wanted to be sure I wasn't experiencing some weird glitch. It's a little bit of a pain to have all mail in the inbox as it really does clutter up the place.
Oh well...
This did get me thinking though. Since the GMAIL app is basically running all the time on the phone, would it not be possible to write code that would have the GMAIL app issue a notification when it receives an email that goes straight into a label and not the inbox? Especially if that label is set to sync.

Unfortunately, Google Apps (like Gmail) are closed-source. Not much anyone can do with em.
You might be able to use the secondary Mail app to add Gmail as POP or IMAP and it might give notifications for other labels, not sure.

Why does my mailbox (Gmail) keep emptying itself.

Did not find anything in a search. It seems like every couple of days or so my inbox purges itself of everything but new mail. The messages are still in my inbox on the pc, just not the phone. I am sure this is a setting I am missing, but where is it? Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
Have you checked how many day's mail you are downloading? The default is 3 days and messages older than this will be deleted from your phone.
make sure you are using imap gmail.
if you are using pop3 it will do that. And also check that you have imap service on from gmail website. and like ^^ said make sure you have it set for more days.
By default mine deletes off the phone once it's checked on the PC.
I've been having trouble with gMail for a while now anyway. I use its Exchange feature to deliver PUSH e-mail, as it arrives. The server seems to disappear regularly and, when it returns, messages are deleted from my phone in chunks. Sometimes, it seems as though one message in particular blocks the account from receiving more for a while, then, suddenly, a batch will arrive. I wonder if this strange behaviour also shows itself with straightforward POP and IMAP accounts.
