Mail showing one too many - HD2 General

I've got an odd problem at the moment in that the mail tab is showing one more number than the number of messages. Even when I delete all the emails it still shows "1" on the tab.
Any ideas why that is?

I think I know why
my guess is that there is a mail from microsoft in the inbox. Check the oldest mail you have. It should be the welcome mail. Hope it solves the issue.

I don't think it's that as I've deleted everything in the inbox so it's totally empty and t still says one mail. Hmmmm.

I know this is a pain to do, but delete the email account and recreate it.
That should solve the problem

Fixed it! I didn't realise I had two inboxes, there was my normal one I use and there was another outlook one with an email in there saying welcome (like you suggested dashrink).
All working now

This is a common problem. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330676 for a fix.

Problems with Gmail POP3

Hey all,
I've been having some problems with POP3 and gmail on my TyTN/8525. That problem being: it doesn't work anymore. It worked great for about a week, then just stopped working for no apparent reason. I didn't change any of my gmail settings during this time.
After it stopped working, I randomly got 5 of the 100+ e-mails that I was suppsoed to get. Gmail is receiving them fine and I can see them when I login to gmail, they just don't get downloaded when my phone pops it. I can send e-mail through gmail's pop fine.
Anyone have a clue what my problem might be?
Thanks,
Todd

Which wireless provider?
Have you tried deleting the Gmail account on the TyTn and then re-adding it?
Can you POP3 access it from you'r home computer etc (to make sure it is not a Gmail issue)?
If these do not help post you're setup so we can take a look
I think the problem seems to stem from the fact that Gmail breaks down your messages in groups, like around 300 or so messages at a time. On top of that, Pocket IE doesn't download the full messages by default and, as such, leaves a copy of the messages on the server. I think when this happens, Gmail doesn't prepare the next "group" of messages to send to you. Also, Pocket IE, by default, is set to show only messages from the last 3 days, so even though it may have downloaded a bunch of messages, you'll only see the ones that are 3 days old or less. You'll want to uncheck that option.
Try setting up your account as you normally would in the desktop mail app of your choice, Outlook Express for example. Make sure it isn't set to leave a copy of the messages on the server. If Outlook Express didn't download the first group of messages, make sure to do a manual send and receive. That will hopefully tell Gmail to prepare your next group of messages. Alternate Send/Receives with your phone and Gmail until you get to your most recent messages. Also, try putting recent in front of your user name, IE, "recent:[email protected]" instead of just your user name/e-mail address.
i find with gmail that it stops working every few weeks and i have to go into gmail on my pc and re-check the Get all pop email from now, ( it seems there are too many emails to be sent down )
using the "recent:" prefix before your login in your outlook username should fix this.

Push gmail using exchange forcing last, first name

Just got my leo and loving it so far but got one annoying problem I have used contact changer to change all my contacts to first, last name but whenever an email arrives it resyncs the address book and changes most if not all of my contacts back to last, first which is rather annoying.
Do I have to sync up with outlook then change all my contacts on there to first, last and force a sync again.
Checked my gmail account and they are all first, last as before.
I had exactly the same problem but contact changer did the trick for me.
Paul
I wish I could say the same for mine! I wonder if I used an out of date one.. will try the one in the link you sent me to see if that works
if i use contact changer, it changes them to be correct, then as soon as it gets any contact from google - it resyncs them all back to be last name first name
its driving me MAD
incidentally and on a similar topic. its not pulling thru ANY e-mail for me on the google exchange sync, its just grabbed all the folders then given up. any ideas? (ive told it to get everything in the inbox - which is only 70 message regardless of size and regardless of dates) and its conected of my home wifi so its a pretty quick connection
Ok todays update, this is really starting to confuse me....
i exported all my contacts from google down into outlook.
with them all in outlook, i changed all the "file as" filed to be "first last"
then i stopped my phone syncing contcts with google, and told it tosynchronise withoutlook via usb.
it synced fine, all my contacts were as i wanted them.... then within seconds.. the phone had updated all the contacts to be "last name, first" then it promptly synced them all back to outlook!!!!!!
how on earth did it do that?!?!?!?
This issue is really irritating, by now I'm forcing myself to get used to the lastname, firtname format.
HTC Pls fix this!
one easy solution is to stop synchronizing your contacts with Google only synchronize mail....
it will work till some solution arrives .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has there been any fix for this issue as yet? I'm having the same problem since syncing my WM6.5 phone with Google (Contacts, Calendar and Mail)

Unread email counter (1.48.707.2 71294 WWE)

I tried searching this forum but could not find any reference to my problem.
I have configured my device to link with our corporate exchange server. I know that I have read all the messages, but I still get the green bubble with number 1 in it. I have tried using the "MarkAllMessagesRead.cab", but no luck. I know there is no unread message.
This persists even after a soft reset.
Anyone has a similar issue and/or a fix?
I have the same problem! Hope it can be fixed.
The problem started after I flashed the new 1.48 ROM.
You don't have any sub folders that gets emails moved into it by a rule automaticaly do you? Some AV solutions do this and have a seperate folder for SPAM etc.
Well, I have managed to solve the probelem, though the method would not have been my first choice.
I deleted the exchange account on my HD2 and recreated it. It is ok ........for now.
I am an avid flasher of ROMS (flashing my HD every alternate days) and never had this problem on any version of windows mobile.
Anyway, all's well.
Same problem
Hi.
I have the same problem.
I have try`d deleted my gmail account, my exchange accounts and my hotmail account.
Problem is that I can`t delete the hotmail account. It is not "highlighted" in the meny where I can delete accounts. Gmail is no problem to delete.
Anyway, I set up the gmail and exchange accounts with home computer and google calender again after I failed to delete the hotmail account, and suddently I have 2 unread email in the sense menu! WTF? It is very annoying because I belive it is causing the sound notification when email arrives to crash. It is no sound when new email arrives.
Hope somebody can help! All this started after I flashed the 1.48 ROM
Sorry for the crappy english!
i also have the same problem, i have a green ball with a one in it on the email envelope on the taskbar , ive tried deleting all my email accounts but it remains ! ? any ideas ?? please !!
ok, im officially an idiot !! it turns out there was some kind of read receipt in the default outlook folder, no idea how it got there and as i dont use outlook didnt check.................................im an IDIOT !
i have the same issue, i have removed all the email accounts, but the counter still shows 1...

gmail push problem

all of a sudden outlook, configured in pushmail with gmail, syncs all folders besides inbox. if i go il folder all mail the mails in gmail inbox are there, but if i go in inbox folder i see nothing
bump...
let me make it more clear...
new email are in inbox in gmail and appear in all mail in gmail with inbox label
when I sync pocket outlook, the new email on the phone show up in gmai/all mail folder but not in incoming folder
Google's Exchange Sync have been having problems since Friday afternoon. They are working on correcting the problem at there end but unfortunately there is no ETA on a fix.
That is so reassuring to know. There are at least other threads on this topic [one of them mine!] about strange problems and glad to know there are issues with Google over the period of oddity.
I have lost count how many times I deleted and rebuild a new account!

cool gonna test it and let u know
I have even lost, by mistake, all my emails because of this...
EDIT: nope not working yet null error
Actually I have seen almost consistently now that when I am not logged into a machine that is running Gmail Manager on Firefox I get the emails through normally.
When I am logged into Gmail Manager they don't come through until I actually go to the account and read then and then they seem to be silently updating on my phone account now.

Gmail Solution

Here it is. Go Into your Gmail settings on your desktop computer. click on settings in the upper right corner, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP, disable IMAP and enable POP for all email. I also selected delete Gmail when accessed with POP.
This solves the problem with email notification not disappearing immediately after you click on the email, it gets you all your email promptly and it does not show emails in your inbox, for ex. you have 3 unread emails, you go to check and there are not any? So it fixes that issue. It syncs perfectly with the desktop sever. I had constant problem with above issues. So yeah the culprit seems to be IMAP. I tested this on Froyo and 2.1 Vanilla. Works for both. I imagine it will work on Sense too.
I just noticed this problem last night.. the Gmail Unread Count widget tells me 6 new emails, the Gmail app says Inbox (6) at the top, but there are no unread messages! Going to Gmail on my desktop shows no mention of these 6 supposedly unread emails.
Just tried your trick, but the problem's still there. Running Froyo here.

I'm in the US, maybe that makes a difference. Also on stock froyo. It works perfect now. Make sure you have changed your settings correctly. I checked settings again and posted information is correct.

So what exactly is the gmail problem that requires this solution? Your description is quite convoluted and confusing. Email notification not disappearing when you expect it to, or messages not showing in your inbox? Either way seems to me like nxt says. Probably just a case of your mail being hidden in your SPAM label.
Notification tells me there is new gmail. I tap the notification and read the mail. Return to home screen and notification has gone. Bog standard and it works perfectly fine for me.

I'm in the U.S. too, on T-Mo.
I tried the old 'lets reboot and see what happens', and now it's all working perfectly. Thanks for the tip!
Does no-one else use gmail push via the normal email app?
androidforums.com/motorola-droid/36326-how-get-push-gmail-email-app.html
I guess there's a lack of features when compared?

Cool. Good you figured it out. I'm glad helped out someone. I couldn't figure out why everytime I checked my inbox there wouldn't be any messages. I went to desktop and saw the messages in my inbox that I had already read. Also once you click on notification you have to hit back arrow to get the notification to disappear. Solved that as well.

This happens to all versions of android. Its just not syncing with gmail correctly, so you phone shows no new emails, but says thier is 5 unread. If you log on to gmail you will see emails you marked as read unread. All you got to do to fix is to mark them as read from within gmail web client.

Set it to POP and it fixes that issue. I don't get that anymore. Everything is working perfectly now.

What do you mean by "Phone....says there is 5 unread". I assume you mean the Gmail client on your phone lists them in BOLD? If so, how can you say in the next breath "If you log on to gmail you will see emails you marked as read unread" ? You have just said they are unread on the Phone side, so why would you expect to see them as marked read in gmail web client.
I can toggle messages on the phone between read and unread and within a few seconds the changes are reflected in the gmail web client. So all good here.
Perhaps it can happen to all version but it does not happen to everyone. If it was a widespread issue, I think we would be hearing a lot more fuss about it. My Gmail works fine and does not do what you describe. I have IMAP enabled.

Honestly, the stock GMail app works like a charm for me; I haven't had to do any changing on my accounts. Heck, I was able to sync my University of Phoenix e-mail account as we use GMail as well.
Easy fix
All you have to do is select on labels, go to all mail, it will show a message you have previously read as unread. Then just mark it read again and problem is solved.

This has happened to me on a few occasions too. What he means is that when you get a Gmail notification THEN you check it with your phone and lets say you delete it with your phone. However, the next time you get sent an email and get a notification, when you check your gmail it will list your unread emails as (2) instead of (1). When you go into your gmail application to check, it also says unread (2), BUT you will only see one email.
Now if you go and check your Gmail using your computer, you will see both the emails, the one you read then deleted and the one you just received.
I know this is not a widespread problem because this has happened intermittently to me and has not happened for a while.
But good job on finding a fix for those that do suffer this small but annoying sync problem.

This is the bit where you guys have me confused. The only way I can tell unread messages in the gmail on my phone is by the bolding and the corresponding number in brackets in the header. So I cannot see how you can get the conflicting info within the gmail app itself on the phone?
Inbox (2)

Clearly I am missing something obvious. I can conceive how the Gmail notification bar indicator count could differ. But I cant see where you see the difference within the android gmail app itself. Is it that you get a different number of bold messages to the number in brackets?
In any case - main thing is you got the problem sorted I guess.
I used to get the gmail error but since upgrading to 2.2 beta it works so smoothly now.
Why are you redirecting your gmail account to the email application through exchange anyways?
The gmail application supports push.

Basically the number in the brackets show you have 2 unread emails but your phone gmail client isn't showing any unread messages. They are all gray and read. Then if you log on to the web client you will see 2 unread messages.
Its just a simple sync issue.
Better solution to the sync issue (where for example the phone says Inbox(2) but shows no unread messages):
Manage applications, filter all, Gmail Storage. Clear data. Then re-open Gmail and let it resync. This always fixes it for me.
I only ever get this problem after a) flashing a new ROM or backup, or b) turning on a phone I haven't used in a while.
