[Q] Wp7 Reboots all the time AFTER activating live services - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

So Ive spent all day going through a lot of threads and posts and stuff, about the HD2 rebooting a lot and the only possible reason i could find was the memory card wasnt supported. its the stock 16gb class 2 that comes with the usa hd2, but im pretty sure it works because before i activated the live services everything was perfect, after i activate them, it reboots every couple minutes, anyone find a fix for this or any tips? ive tried formating the memory card, reflashing the phone, updating the radio, everything.

I had the same problem the first time I ported WP7 to my phone using the same stock 16gb class 2 card. I suggest you restart the process.
-Reformat your sd card (I did a quick format)
-Reinstall WP7
-Follow the exact steps to enable market. When moving the file using Touch explorer, remember to copy the file and not cut it..on my first attempt I made a few mistakes and I ended up cutting the file into the windows folders. Suddenly my phone started to restart itself every other minute.
-All apps that I've tested on the market works including netflix, youtube, weathebug.
-Zune transfers and playlists works like a charm!
After following these steps, WP7 has been running solid for almost two days!
I hope this helps.

interesting...i will try it again..
all we know stable is the most important factor, even than the market

I have this same problem. I rather doubt that copying-vs.-cutting or cluster size has anything to do with it, particularly as WP7 will reformat your SD card itself on first boot. Your problem probably became more pronounced after using Live because the SD card was being used to store the additional data/settings.
My opinion is that we have "bad" (perhaps insufficiently speedy) SD cards (I am also using the stock 16GB TMob USA card); haven't had a chance to test my theory by swapping it out yet, though.

Android was running fine, Then SOD started happening..(FIX)

This has happened to me, however Format FAT32 is a fix, but I chose to just scandisk the card. Found a couple errors, and I deleted the temp files and fired up Haret. All is good again.
Long story short some errors on the card happen and a quick scandisk/chkdsk should fix them and Android should be happy again.
You can perform this on your computer or with any storage card tools in Windows Mobile prior to launching Haret.
Hope this helps some people...
Just an idea, can we add a chkdsk command in android boot loader?
I have same issue before.
SODs are caused by sd card errors?
i didnt realize that.. is it really only errors on sd cards that are the cause of SODs? or are there other underlying factors affecting SODs such as mayb speed class of SD cards?
im using the class 2 8gb which came with my hd2 and my phone gets SODs despite having the same setup as many people who are using the same android build as others who do not have SODs and have used android back-to-back for days without falling back to Winmo..
I'm no expert or anything but I use the 16 gig SD card that came with my HD2 and I've formatted it, I've tried every trick I know with the sd card ad I still get SODs, I'm going to keep looking for a fix here. I'll post back if I find one. Let me know if any of you do.
thankx,
Kn0t
the android boot loader should already check all the mounts before mounting them.
i would say try a different winmo rom..
im using the miri cht one with 2.12 radio.
I think every time we boot android the card is automatically checked for errors! I have seen it in the test that scrolls while android is booting!

The problem is actually in the format of the SDCard (fat32) and the way files are organize when we transfer/save/backup files onto it. A scandisk plus a defragment will make a difference. I always do it when I transfer music files, take pics, make backups o just installed a new build. even the fsck finds non-contiguous files every time you boot android (pay close attention be4 the sound is loaded)
and you are right, the sdcard is checked for errors but not fixed. what the bootloader get "automatically fixed" is not the sdcard, but some files which might not be configured/located where they should. I recommend a scandisk and a defragment everytime you load a new build/change many files. u will notice the difference.
So which chdsk/defrag program do you recommend ?

Every Windows pc comes with its scandisk and defrag utility.
according to some peeps at computer forums
you should NOT defrag a thumb drive or sd card, because its a different tpe of memory than hard drive and may cause some sideffects.
cna someone confirm that?
I formatted my SD card. Upgraded my radio. I took everything off of MT SD card that was windows mobile. I just left music movies and android and I've been running android 19 + hours with zero problems nor sods.

it doesn't make any sense, this two thing isn't related at all. hard drive type and defrag. data just fragments, no matter hdd type, format. so you need to defrag it.

Thank you for this tip. I had installed Modern Combat: Sandstorm and put a good amount of music on my phone, and after that I was getting SOD's fairly frequently.. I'm attempting this trick now to see if it has any positive effect.
I don't know if this will help anyone but it works great for me. In addition to repairing errors when I formatted my 16 gig class 2 that came with the phone I set cluster size to 64 and its always ran fast since with no sod. I don't see that much of a storage loss. Barely using 5 out of 16 gigs on the card with almost 3 gigs of music loaded.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I also don't know if this will help anyone but I used to get the SOD to happen ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I would get lucky for a couple hours but then they would happen sometimes every TWO minutes. I have 3 different SD cards. One stock 16gb, one class 4 8gb. and a spare 16gb. I tried everything I found here from switching to a faster card. reformatting. Using a higher cluster size. Nothing worked. Then I tried switching radio's from 2.08 to 2.12. PROBLEM 100% fixed. I havent had a SOD in over two weeks. Ive read that the radio is NOT a fix for this problem but for some reason it fixed it for me.

MY SOLUTION FOR SOD...
Hey all... I am new to this forum. I own a Galaxy Note GT N7000. I am using stock JB rom. I have been having SOD's since 3 months. Even wen i was on ICS. I have tried many custom roms, changed kernels, got my phone bricked n got a motherboard replacement under warranty. Guess what... SOD persisted. I was goin mad. I tried usin phone without external SD, overclocked my device to 500 Mhz.
And hell... SOD persisted. Have been through almost all forums regarding SODs.
What helped was... changing WIFI settings.
Go to... Settings... WiFi... Go to options menu.... click ADVANCED...
CHANGE... "KEEP WI-FI ON DURING SLEEP" option to "NEVER"
Bingo....
No SOD... since last 4 days.
Hope it helps. I know some ppl are havin SOD even without using WIFI.
But for those who r using WiFi, its worth giving a try.

[Q] Does deploying apps take ages or just me?

Using teh SDK kit or Toms deployer seems to take too long, even on small apps.
It does work but just seems to take ages, is anybody else having this issue or is it just me?

Already both ports on lappy, same issue. Other devices work full speed no issues.
I'm having that issue now I have an SD card installed. Been installing a small app from the marketplace for 10 minutes now...
Phone has also become laggy so going to try another SD card.
Same problem here. Must be related to an incompatible SD card
I think it depending app size. It take about 1 or 2 minutes before finish to install everything.
Guys, im referring to deploying apps/games not installing via market but could be same end issue I suppose.
MY card seems fine in every other respect though so dont think its down to card.
It's NOT card related or at least not with the card's hardware. When I first flashed WP7 last week I had the same problem. Then I was forced to flash back to WM6.5 for a few hrs. I used the opportunity to format my SD card. After I flashed WP7 again Market installs were way faster than before. Same goes for XAP deployment, although huge staff like Guitar Hero 5 still takes 15 min or so

Random reboots with SD card problem

Hi.
I decided to try out WP7 on my HD2 for the first time.
I run Task29, installed new radio, MAGLDR 1.13 and rom blackSideSeven v1.7.7392.
Everything went preety smooth. I recieved activation code from US support (through chat). Working market place, 3G, wi-fi, apps etc.
After few hours phone reboots itself, goes through MAGLDR and then WP7 says:
"Storage card not working. Your storage card has changed, is damaged, or is non-compliant. (...)".
All I could do then was turning the phone off. Reboots did nothing, so I made a hard reset. It worked, but I lost all my settings etc. Moreover available space went down to 40 MB (from over 1,5 GB).
I decided to format card with SDFormatter(it says my card is not compatible with Full(erase) and does quick format). Again, task29, radio, magldr, wp7. Works again. Few hours later same story. Storage card not working.
I'm using SanDisk 2GB SD card.
Does anyone has an idea what could be the problem here?
Thanks in advance.
Rebooting in WP7 usually means an incompatible sd card, However I was able to find your sd card in the "WP7 Compatible sdcards" .
Try another sd card, preferrably an 8 or 16 gig.

Thanks for response.
About 13 hours ago I changed SD card from this 2GB SanDisk to 2GB Kingston, used SDFormatter (not compatible with full erase either) and made hard reset. It was loading everything slower for the first time, but after some time it was as fast as SanDisk.
I've been using Zune, wi-fi, 3G, browser, marketplace, xbox-live panel, put some music. So far so good, no reboots and it still shows a lot of space available (which seems a bit strange though, because I almost filled everything with music through Zune).
I hope it will stay like that. I really like WP7, it's UI, speed and simplicity.
So yeah, if anyone will have a similiar problem, try to change SD card and see if that works for you.

actually you might have had more luck because you copied music to it, ive found that if i do not have enough music on my card it will restart, im guessing that the music covers up a dodgy patch of storage, which is fine for playback of music but perhaps doesnt perform as quick for OS functions
After few days I can say everything works really good. On 2GB Kingston I didn't have any reboots. It works a bit slow sometimes though(especially when changing apps and in marketplace). It is good for daily use.

[Q] Rebooting Issue, Help needed!

Hello Ya'all,
First and foremost, I would like to thank the forum and its members for the great supply of information and technology.
Device: HD2 is currently running YukiXDA's Windows Phone 7 ROM
Storage Device: Sandisk 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC
Issue: I flashed my phone with Windows 7 after formatting the SD card with SD-Card formater for optimal results. The installation went perfect, the SD card was recognized, etc. and everything was working perfectly. I added pictures and music to it, no problems; however, when I put an additional album onto the HD2, the phone started freezing and rebooting quite frequently, with the occasional Storage card error; thus, I assumed (and read) that adding a little more music would patch up the problem. I tried it and to my surprise, the rebooting decreased, but the problem still persists. I know some of ya'all are probably wondering: "Go buy a new SD card," However, this is one of the cards that is known for being compatible quite frequently; thus, I can't be too sure whether I'm just wasting money or not. Any help would be appreciated.
This might sound hilarious; however, after updating to blackseven mango, my phone has not rebooted for the past 6 hours (It is infamous for rebooting every hour or so). I am going to test this out one more night and see what the problem is. I'm sure it is not related to the roms; however, it would restart with every NoDo Rom, but for some reason, it hasn't with this one.
sd card
Its most likely your SD card I personally have never had any problems with restarting and I have the Samsung SD card that came with my us hd2

the adding of music is the key, ive found that my card has portions that are fine, in fact its super quick and stable, but if i go and install something it will start resetting, if its the same issue as mine then keep dumping 50MB of junk on it until it becomes stable, i honestly do not know why this works unless WP7 is so sensitive to IOPS that even the slightest hicup will make it reset

Hi
I have had problems with alot of reboots, up till 5 per hour and some times when booting it just get stuck on a white og green screen so that i have to pull the battery. But that was untill i found this yesterday, i filled my phone up(from over 10 gb free to only 2gb free) and now it is running sooooo smooth not a reboot yet
So people with random reboots might noth have to by a new sd card. ???
Wish i found this before i ordered a 16 GB class 10 hehehe
Just a quick report back on this, after filling my sd card up with music i only had ONE reboot last night in stead of rebooting many times per day else it has been running all smoth.
So i must say this is a great result by just adding music to the phone
HTC HD2 with cm7 hyperdroid
Hi my phone randomly reboots a lot ive rooted it and flashed cm7 hyper droid- v10.4 "estatic eagle" android version 2.3.3 build #GRI40 a long time ago but now recently it just started randomly rebooting. i believe it started when i tried to update the rom from rom manager to a newer cm7 hyperdroid but for some odd reason my phone also doesnt reboot into recovery mode to put a new rom on it. please help. its getting irratating. thank you

32GB SD card issue - validated card as 32gb

I purchased a 32GB micro SD card for my HD2 after my 16GB card died last week. A sad day indeed, but an ideal time to upgrade
I've read a lot of threads on the forum about some people having issues with 32GB cards, and fake cards. This has prompted me to run H2testw, and also try formatting using SDformatterv3.
HD2testw - Verified as OK.
SDformatterv3 - Completes OK.
Now, when I add the newly formatted card to my phone, it mounts, and works fine. No problems at all. I then start to fill up the card with music. I firstly copied about 5GB to the card, and again I had no problems. The card works fine in the phone. I then copied another 10GB to the card. However now I have a problem. With the SD card in the phone, the phone hangs. When the phone is in standby, I press the power button and I get a black screen. If I remove the SD card then it starts to work correctly again.
So, my first thought was, duff card. So, running the programs above verified that the card is OK.
So, I am now wondering if the phone actually supports 32GB correctly (IE, when more than 16GB of data is on the card). I also thought that perhaps the ROM I am using is the problem.
I am running [CWR] BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V25 (24.May) ROM. I see that V35 is the most up to date rom, so perhaps I will need to reflash my phone. I will be testing this later today.
Has anybody else found themselves in a similar scenario, and did you find a solution?
Cheers,
I figured it out. Turns out to be a combination of things.
1) MIUI player locking up when trying to scan newly added music
2) Locking up because of some corrupt files
Tracking down the bad files resovled the problem

good to see you solved it, cuz i have a 32 gb class 6 and no problem.
some to notice its that to some ppl a 32 gb class 10 works with some bugs, a class 4 or 6 seems to works better.
PS: if you are a flashaholic like me, you should have partition your sd card with CWM partition option, so you could use some of the beneffits of sd/ext that some ROMs use
So 32 Gb works well with Htc Hd2. But, it depends which company and speed.

That's the thing: I bought brand new 32 GB SanDisk and am using MIUI JB. Constantly upgrading with their daily build to new versions to no avail.
Problem: I filled card with my files to listen. Initially it works alright, after some time however I find some folders are gone, some files are gone, things just dissapear from the card.
Now I wonder is it a card, is it a MIUI JB or is it HD2 that got broken after my intensive use. Some electronics burnt down or something.
Does anybody had this issues : combination of HD2 with MIUI JB on 32GB card (NAND or SD - both). Keeps losing files in very consistent manner.
I also checked the card with different software and formatted it many times and re partitioned.
As an experiment I am trying now old 8GB card to make sure if its card or not.
