Ok I have Samsung i9000m with JL2 on Bell Mobility.
I have bricked one phone from using Eugenes flash. The flash worked but it would not connect to the cell network. I have had it replaced. Now I'm being very cautious on flashing.
I keep reading that you have to back up the /efs directory. However I need root access to this folder, I have 3e recovery so the update.zip files need to be signed.
So how do I flash safely without wiping the /efs folder
OR how do I safely downgrade from 3e to 2e recovery to root the device.
I have a Xperia X10 and have had no issues with flashing, I have it fully moded out with no issues.
It seems that Samsung has decided to make the IMEI information easy to delete!
Some clear direction to get root on my phone would be greatly helpfull!

Do you have the 3br? If you do then the first thing id do is flash diferent kernel either cf root by chainfire or hardcores speedmod both will give you root plus 2e.
I am also on JL2 and I used the Speedmod kernel and it worked fine.
I used speedmod-kernel-k12h-256hz

Hey guys,
I don't know if I missing the BIG picture somewhere but I just can't seem to find a way to get CWM installed on a fresh JL2 install?
Iv'e googled, xda, android forums, I'm just not finding anything!
As of now:
Rooted phone with Super One Click
SU latest
Titanium Backup
ROM manager
I tried an Odin CMW.tar via PDA field and bricked my phone. Took me about 2 hours to get it back. I had Phone-!-PC icon, then I had /dev/sd/slt01 (... something along those lines), then I had infinte boot loops. What a mess!
I have also tried it from ROM manager, and tried older CMW offered in ROM Manager.
There has to be some simple thing I'm missing.
That is all I have done with the phone. Ill leave like this until someone can point me in the right direction. Just so we are clear phone is well now.
Thanks.
All I did to get Clockwork working in my JL2 was flash CF Root using odin and then flash clockwork via rom manager. All the instruction are in the cf root thread in the development section.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 is the url for CF-Root and I used the CF Root JPK v1.1 file. It'll root your phone too so if your not already rooted then you don't have to worry about super one click or anything.
Ok, I flashed CF JPK v1.1 and installed CWM via ROM Manager but it does not boot into CWM, it goes straight to <e2>. but if i select update.zip it will boot CWM but if I reboot, it goes straight back to <e2>.
After you flash cwm with rom manager you have to go in recovery
And select update.zip and it might take a few times but it should end up in cwd. Works everytime on mine, after it does it the first time I'm usually good.

The reason why you can't apply update.zip is because JL2 comes with recovery 3e i stead of 2e like eclair version and 3e verify for the signature of update.zip, so no unofficial customization this way. The easiest way is to flash a custom kernel. Speedmod by Hardcore will enable CWM recover by default and give you the option to root if not done prior to flashing the kernel. It's pretty easy to do with odin and takes only 5 sec as these kernel are 5-6 mb. Moreover it's really safe.

That would work too, cf-root is with odin too and only takes a few seconds but as usual the instructions are on the first page of the thread.

I would also recommend this method. Super easy and it works.
+1 that's how I got CWM from a stock JL2 (speedmod 13a).
And if you get errors, reflash JL2 with update bootloader checked. It worked for me... ymmv.

Hi all
I have my Bell S2 rooted (flashed the custom kernel with Odin)
and then unlocked with Herolz app
Now I downloaded ROM Manager and flashed the latest CWM
but when I 'boot into recovery' , i am booted into the stock android 3e recovery
I can't understand what is going on... can someone provide some insite
THank you!
While Im at it, anyway to remove the yellow warning sign
I think i need a stock kernel to flash , is there one available for bell s2
ive flashed the ZS OZS KG2 root CF kernel as of now only
hi,
I found this thread really helpful
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193695
I don't think there is a dedicated Clockwork Mod for the bell version yet. But this is the next best thing.
Ive flashed a few roms with this and it works fine.
I used the jig method to reset the yellow triangle. hopefully you have one on hand
You don't need rom manager, the kernel that you flashed already has cwm recovery.
then why cant I reboot into CWM?
was the rom manager flash what ruined it u think
shud i reflash the kernel, any one in particular for blel S2
No idea, flash the cf-root kernel for your firmware(kg2 i take it)
Like peach said, just flash cf-root, any kg2. I just got my phone today and its already rooted. You wont need rom manager. cf-root installs an app called cwm which will boot you into recovery.
You can't use cwm with chainfire's rooted kernel. Boot into recovery with the one included in the rooted kernel.

Hi all
I had root my samsung galaxy y by update a update.zip file in the recovery as followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36352803 instruction. After this, i flash the temporary CWM and then flash KURO KERNEL.
After all done, i start to flash the JELLY BLAST rom by follow the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679563 instruction.
Then i reboot system. However it stuck at samsung logo. It can boot into recovery but can't boot into room and only stuck at samsung logo.
I had rescue it by using odin to flash stock rom.
In conclusion, someone tell me what is wrong? Why i can't get into the rom?Is there any steps i need to pay more attention?

CWM on this device not install at all, it's portable. You first flash it on stock recovery to get access to custom recovery so when you get it you can flash superuser or SuperSU etc.
