Sent my unbranded sgs (XEU with JPY on it) to o2 to repair a hardware fault with the earpiece, and they took it upon themsleves to completely wipe the phone and put their own branded software on it, changed the CSC to O2U and downgraded it to JM1, which they claimed is the latest software. Now Kies won't update either. Tossers.
Why did you send it to O2 if it was not an O2 phone .?

I got it through a reseller but it is on o2, so that is why I got them to repair (the earpiece sounded like the speaker cone was torn)

unfair
That's not really a fair comment to O2.
When I get phones in I use the software that's linked to the product code.
So if it was a O2 phone but had a XEU on I would still flash with O2 as on the signal test it would fail. Due to the way it works.

I think it's completely fair because when I bought my phone it was unbranded. I didn't change the product code or anything but when I have it to O2 to repair a hardware fault they decide to wipe the internal sd card change the product code and put their item branded software on. Idiots.

Why didn't you take it to a Samsung repair centre then?
O2 might only have access to o2 firmware and we are told by Samsung to put every phone onto the lastest version of software. Did you ask them not to software it?

Hi everyone,
I Want to roll back to the stock firmware... So a friend a mine is coming this evening, and he hasnt flashed his phone. So my question is, how can I flash his firmware on my phone?
TIA
hiraj
there is no need to... just download stock firmware from samsungfirmwareworld.com and flash with odin or try this...it worked for me..
1. connect ur fone with kies...
2. open regedit.
3.[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\X]
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000DDJF3/I9000ODDJF3/I9000DDJF3/I9000DDJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKAINU"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000DDJF3/I9000ODDJF3/I9000DDJF3/I9000DDJF3"
"DEVCONINFO"=""
X = Device Number
4. then when you go back to kies and update firmware.. u will c upgrade option turned on.. just press it and u r back on original...
I know i did that before but I want to roll back to the real stock Ifi sell my phone my customer won't be satisfied since it s kinda unofficial
Does any one know how I can save the rom?

Does anyone have a suggestion how I can get back to the original Dutch stock rom with the telegraaf app and fileindex app?

You may want to look into using ROM manager on your friends phone to make a backup and then do a restore on your phone using the same program. Mind you: I don't know the implications considering serial numbers, product numbers and IMEI of using this route. Maybe someone else can chime in on that and be of help.
Good luck (and who reads De Telegraaf anyway )

First of all thanks for your tip! I hope someone else can add some more info about the implications.
And I dont read the telegraaf XD but I want to roll back to my original rom, my gps sucks right now, and with the original dutch firmware it worked great :S
I still think there must be a way to get the original dutch firmware through KIES with the right changes in Regedit can someone confirm this???
Hi, bad day!
My wife dropped her phone from about 50 cm on a carpet. Now the powerbutton feels a bit strange. We can´t start the phone anymore. If i try many times and push the button again and again, it starts for some seconds and shut down again. There´s no sign before it shuts down.
I´ve installed docs rom. Will this be a problem by sending it back to Samsung??? Or any Ideas to fix it???
Try pulling out the battery for a few minutes. If still no good maybe try flashing an original rom using odin or even a custom rom throught cwm. You should be able to find your stock firmware on the samfirmware site if neeed. If still no go i'd suggest you find ways to truly brick it and blame it on a kies firmware upgrade. Just don't tell them you dropped it. Good luck.

Anybody sent them a phone to repair without original firm??
Hello, you can use JIG-USB for start to download and flash firmware via ODIN.
NO ?
Anybody sent them a phone to repair without original firm??
Probably depends upon who picks the phone up to look at it and also who the phone belongs to warranty wise .
Stock firmware is not network firmware its the bare firmware that Samsung supply to the vendors .Though i dont see anyone turning a claim down if it had Samsung Stock firmware .
My route would be you had problems with button after a Kies update .
In trying to fix it if asked only you tried a different rom as advised by some know it all in a repair shop/forum .
Look at it this way you broke it by dropping it not covered under warranty if they fix it free happy happy if not well its not covered by warranty anyway .
jje
I don´t have a jig-usb and I can´t imagine that it would work? Would need power, doesn´t it?
Yes its has to power on missing phone boot but going to download mode .
jje
Are you by blackpool uk?
icc another idea if you can is to try another battery in it. Maybe the drop somehow stuffed it up. I doubt it but worth a try. If thats not the prob best would be samsung. Somehow it just stopped.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for the advices. btw, it´s not the battery. I already tried mine in it.
I will send the phone to samsung and hope there will be no questions. If they ask, I will be prepared...
Good luck. Hope it goes well.

I'm hoping to receive my SGS2 from Vodafone UK tomorrow.
I know they will have added their own bloatware on it so want to flash an original firmware or custom ROM straight away.
How can I get an image of the Voda firmware so that I can flash it back should I need to return the phone?

Look over in the dev forum for the complete guide to de-branding and re-branding. You'll have to wait until a Vodafone ROM shows up online but that'll be a matter of days I'm sure.
As far as I know vodafone don't put any bloatware on their handsets.

No bloatware the original sgs was full of vodafone crap
Excepting similar tweaks as per o2, startup logo and settings limited to vodafone. Hopefully it's in the post today so should be able to see the results tonight.
As for being able to restore to Vodafone FW, nothing at the moment, but once an update is out it will be fine, or wait for someone to try and extract it.

I just updated my Play using SEUS/PC Companion to the recently released 4.0.2.A.0.42 update. I purchased my phone for the bargain price of £149 a few weeks back from an O2 store and was happy that its installation of Android wasn't branded and that the update prior to this (2.3.3) wasn't either.
However, I have just witnessed the O2 boot up screen and fun features like wap.o2.com being my home screen.
Is this normal?
I'm wanting to keep my phone unrooted and bootloader locked for the moment, but is there any way of getting an unbranded 4.0.2.A.0.42 ?
Thanks
I did it using the free thingy from wotanserver and im on the latest uk generic after waiting for my o2 phone to get the update. it is free btw and didnt take too long. I then checked and repaired via pc companion just to make sure I was running the very latest and it is
Thanks! Are you in the same situation with an unroot/locked bootloader as myself? I think with Wotan I would be able to change the CDA? I'm not sure what that entails exactly, but I may give it a go. More info surrounding it would be helpful.
Just use flashtool like i did and update it to the generic uk vershion of the latest firmware no o2 splash screen i knew o2 would do this

yeah i was previously locked and rooted and i did the wotan way thingy. I dont know about the CDA but you can have a look before you do anything
If you use the wotanserver client do you lose your root? & does it wipe all data & apps?
Bought mine unbranded from Sony Ericsson's website, and its continued to be unbranded since, Ermm just root with the Zergrush method, takes about a minute todo, and no one has had problems as fare as I know.

While it may not do it (I'm unsure myself) it's good practice to always backup before making any major changes. And as TheCraig says, it's easy enough to root again.

Thanks. It's a bit naff for me because while it's O2 locked, Tesco Mobile uses the O2 network and their SIMs seem to be able to bypass the SIM lock.
BTW doubleluckstur, as you're an O2 user - have you lost your warranty on the phone? I'm still looking around to see how best to approach unlocking the bootloader/rooting and warranty preservation. Am I right in thinking that the official SE method of unlocking bootloader won't work on our O2 Plays?

All you have to do is flash a generic rom before you update to 2.3.4 The rom that comes with the o2 plays will have some kind of o2 trigger that is leading to the branded update.
Flash this rom with flashtool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097591
then update using SEUS. Bet you wont have all the o2 ****

I dont think you can ever lose your warranty. As long as you have a stock, unrooted phone, the guy in the o2 shop will be clueless.
As to your other question, the official way does not work. You're right, so don't put your IMEI in the bootloader unlocker because it won't work.
Hi my i9505 is rooted and I deleted the Vodafone bloat ware from it, my question is this,.......how do I reinstall the bloat ware before I update to 4.4 or don't I need too (I read it's dangerous to update if you have removed bloat ware from your phone, or is this untrue, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kinds Regards
PS Before I forget how come some firmware from some sites say 4.4 Vodafone Australia, and some just say 4.4 Australia, does this means it will work with any i9505 or is it just they forgot to put in the carrier ??, my phone isn't locked but had some of the Vodafone bloat ware on it before I rooted and removed it.
@da20valve
Lol. No one forgot to put the carrier. Some firmwares are unbranded and some are branded.
The branded ones work with the carrier locked phones.
Unbranded ones work with the unlocked ones i.e. those who dont have a carrier locking
And it is safe to flash even if you have removed the bloat as when you flash a new firmware everything will return.
And yes. Backup the EFS folder (use the play store to download a efs backup software with highest rating) before you flash even the Official Firmwares.

So does that mean since mine is now unlocked even though it was from Vodafone originally I can use the unbranded ones ? (and if its the wrong one will it hurt the phone), also I just downloaded and Jwarriors EFS Backup Tool and saved it to my SD card, thanks for your help, I hit the thanks button.

hi mate
This is the latest for Optus
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37801/I9505XXUGNH6_I9505OPSGNH2_OPS.zip/
Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
I would do a backup first of your efs folder , any thing important and do a factory reset first.

Should I use the Optus one or the one that just says Australia ?, as mine phone was originally Vodafone would it really matter, if it doesn't why do they bother branding them. why don't they just build one for the 4 main carriers, or does the one that says Australia for all carriers.

IMHO you should flash a non branded one.
Why flash the optus one? Just because youre using optus (guessed) does not mean you have to flash that.
And firmwares are branded because they carry specific modem reqirements for the carriers

You need to do a factory reset and if that doesn't sort it try a different firmware.
