[Q] Boot sequence/process - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Dear,
I currently use the excellent Nand Rom NexusHD2 Gingerbread from tytung.
In my phone, i want see the boot process like linux, when he boot and delete the animation.
Is it possible ? If yes, what is the procedure ?
Thanks you for your help !

Sorry mate, but you can't have this.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App

Okay,
Can i ask why ?
Android is based on linux, the boot process don't change ?
I don't know really how Android works, but if the boot screen is desactive, you can not see the kernel boot process ?
Like this screenshot
PS : Sorry for my very bad english (i'm french)

The bootlog doesn't just appear if there's nothing else being shown. Magldr would have to be coded to show it, and it isn't.
The only thing you could do is to approach the Dark Forces Team and ask them to recode magldr so that it shows the bootlog, but I really don't think you'll get it.

Okay john !
Thanks you very much

Need some help with an Andoird build for my dad.

Hi
First off all I want to say: I can probably find everything here in the forum but I'll spend hours and hours reading and most off the time I'll read useless info that I don't need so if you have the knowledge and it just takes 5 minutes to share it please help me out I'll be thankful.
I myself have a HTC legend and have read LOTS off posts before finally rooting and flashing custom roms. Now my dad has asked me if I could help him to get android on his HD2.
He needs to be able to sync his agenda with outlook (for work (Calendar and contacts) I read something about HTC sync should be working on newer kernels is it included in some builds then?), and have a stable build (its not a ROM if I'm correct?) one that he could use for daily use. Don't need anything too special (not even root but its not a problem if it does have root access)
So I've started reading around in the development section and from what I read I don't need to root or flash anything, just extract a zip to the SD and name it Android. Is that correct? (then why do you have special android roms?)
So is there someone who can link me to a good stable (no OC kernels and stuff please) Android Build and tell me if there are known bugs with HD2 builds that don't get mentioned in those threats because they are known as general knowledge.
Thanks in advance
If I could ever help you back with HTC legend problem or something I'll gladly do it for you.
grts
Jonas (sorry for the pour English it's not my main language)
I'm reading topics and If I find answers I'll update this but please if you have the knowledge to help me in a few minutes PLEASE do so.
Never mind found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782930
and solved most of my questions looks like its not as fully operating as I thought :s.
So It's not just as easy as unzipping and renaming that would have been too easy.
It isn't very complicated to run android on the HD2. I don't know what feature you suspect isn't working that scared you from attempting. Every feature I could want is working. You also don't need to sacrifice windows mobile if you try android. Give it a shot and post again if you have trouble.
Problem is that I need to root and flash other wm Rom if I want everything to work as it should. Or isn't that really necessary? I'll just try a build and see what it does. Thx for th reply

if you have to hspl your hd2 depends on your stock radio rom version. it should be a newer one like 2.10 or 2.12 to avoid most issues with android. flashing another winmo rom is only necessary if you have robot voice and/or faster playback of music (just to mention 2 problems)... you don't have anything to loose if you try android from stock hd2. if it's not working fine, you may think of flashing a new radio and/or rom!
So if I unzip the file I can dowload here put it into android folder in the root of my SD, I'm good to go? What about that kernel do I need to flash it??
if he uses it for work then i'd suggest laying off android for now
he could still use the WM? It's just like a program no? So by just removing the folder it would be back to normal?

You basically reboot the phone and it goes back to wmo. Its almost like running a live linux cd...
When you run HaRet Android takes over the phone. When you reboot it will come back to WinMo. Then you run HaRet again and you back in Android. And so on. WinMo 'lives' on the phone, Android on sd.
So the kernel they are talking about is a fake kernel? (not flashed to the actual ROM)
So if anything goes wrong at first boot with the android I can just pull out the battery without bricking the phone?

Its not a fake kernel...it is real but it resides on the sd card so your original wmo stuff will still be there in case you ever need to use wmo again.

You s should start your own thread. There are many different unlock so specify which one you're after, sim unlock? This section is only for android so if you need help on something else, post it in the hd2 general section, not here. Unless it is android related, you won't find help here.
Ok so if I install this:

I can just remove the file on the SD when it doesn't work like we want it too and everything will be back to normal right?
You are correct.
If it doesnt work for you just erase the android folder. I would recommend flashing hard spl, and changing your radio to 2.12.50.02_2. Then load the hyperdroid 1.6 rom. You will have the best luck with that probably without having to change anything in winmo.

I'd recommend using a spare SD card. When you run Android it creates a ton of folders on it, so it's easier to have a dedicated one than to try and delete everything later (if he decides not to stick with Android).
Also, I read through the thread and couldn't see anywhere... did you tell us what radio is on the HD2? It needs to be (I believe) 2.08 or higher, and it's VERY recommended to have a 2.x.50 and not a 2.x.51 radio.
If you flash a 2.x.51 radio on a t-mobile US HD2 you will brick it. Try flashing radio 2.12.50.02_2

Yeah dno the radio version or the bootloader version.
Do i need root to see that?? Is it just booting while pressing volume down to get the bootloader and the info I need?
Also I read that the HyperDroidV1.6 is overclocked and undervolted and I drather not do that. Just want it as stable as can be. (I know my overclocked legend is stable but if he has a really crappy processor,..)
BTW: I know what overclocking does but what's good about undervolting?? better batterylife?
I think I'll just give this a try this weekend (when my dad (and his phone xD)are home)

Just reboot the phone. The radio version is shown at the bottom left of the first white HTC screen (R,G,D - R is the radio version).

I'm assuming undervolting is for better battery life, but have never bothered with it myself. Just have a read of the most popular Android builds to see which you think will work for you. I can recommend FroyoStone Sense v3.1, but I would because that's what I use!
It's so easy to try the different builds that it's no big deal if you play with one and don't like it, so don't be shy - give em all a go if that's what it takes!
Edit: Just noticed your edit from when I was posting. lol

[Q] Help! I can't boot back to Winmo to Android

Hi to any kind souls out there!
I had just convert my HD2 phone into the Android OS.
I am aware that this phone is able to operate in dual os and i would like to enjoy this, but i can't.
I can't go back to Winmo. Restarting the phone with/without the SD card still brings me to the Android OS(therefore unable to boot to winmo to install JMZ dual boot).
Any help available?
I'm using NexusHD2-Froyo V1.9G NAND.
Sorry to tell you this but you should have done a little more reading about what you were doing, before you did it.
A NAND installation of Android completely wipes WM6.5 from your phone. What you should have been doing was running an SD build of Android (there's 2 different forums for HD2 Android ROMs).
All you can do now is to flash WM6.5 onto your phone again, and then put an SD build of Android on your SD card, if you do want dual boot.
Hi!
it's ok.. i shld have done abit more research.. haha..
so if i want to do a dual boot i have to install the non NAND version say the nexushd2 V1.8? but another qn.. does the dual boot help in anyway? if it's not then i shall forget about it.

Heh - thanks is right next to the quote button! So thanks for that
Anyway, I'm glad you're not bothered and can laugh about it. To be honest, if you're not bothered about WM6.5 then I'd just leave it as it is.
If you do want to dual boot then like I said, you'll need to get it back to WM6.5 first, before you think about Android. You can get WM6.5 ROMs here...

Oh wells, i have been tortured quite badly by this dual OS thingy. glad that you answered it for me and saving my time and brain cells.. Thanks! ok, good samaritan, a last help for me?! any ideas to where i could search and read up more about the themes for my phone? it's kinda boring and dull now!! haha!
You'll need to get a new launcher if you want to start theming the phone. ADW Launcher is a popular choice (not my preferred launcher), and it can be themed. There's TONS of themes for it, both free and paid. The app is also free, but I believe there is a paid version with more features. All this is available on the Market.
Hope this helps mate
Thank you so much!! I shall explore it when i after i get my sleep.. it's almost 2am here. haha!! once again thanks for your help! good night!!

Need HELP! Need step by step instructions to get Android on my phone!

Alright, so I bought a used HD2 for $150 today and gave my fiancee my rooted Galaxy S running Bionix 2.2. Now I have this Windows 6.5 phone and no clue how to get it to run Android.
I have looked across the forums and all it does it make my head begin to smoke, lol. I am completely and utterly lost. I'd like to be able to boot into the multiple OS's, Android (preferably the HyperDroid ROM), Win7, and whatever the main third one is, and get that cool "Resistance is Futile" boot screen.
Right now though, I am reading about MAGLDR and stuff and it's saying I need radio and this and that and I have no clue what its talking about, nor any of the other stuff. I am quite surprised I was even able to root and ROM my Galaxy S, though I used a one click root and the ROM was a simple install.
Please help a daft idiot who is in dire need of some Android, lol.
EDIT:
Read this on the tmobile forum. I know nothing about radios, but I like the sound of the improved reception and battery life.
You will need to go to the XDA Developers website and find the ROM Development section. There are many to choose from. I use the Energy Sense with Cookie Classic and GTX ROM using the Froyo Sense 3.1 build. Also search for the thread on increasing the battery life. Changing the registry line code made a world of difference for me. Now I can easily have my HD2 in standby mode with auto sync and WiFi on for two days on one charge with light use. I am now using the Android 2.2 build as my daily OS. I am currently using radio 2.14.50.04 and previously had 2.12.50.02. Battery life on the newer radio for me is better when the phone is in use, about the same when not in use but the cell reception is much better than before.

Thanks man!
Now, if I use that method to get Android on my phone, will I later be able to have it dual boot with Win7, or triple boot with Win7 and Ubuntu?
It's not possible to 'thriple boot'.
Basically these are the steps you need:
Flash HSPL 2.08 on your HD2.
Flash the newest radio (2.15.50.14).
Flash MAGLDR.
Just look around for the links. They're all in the stickies anyway.
After that you csn flash WP7 to NAND and Android to the SD Card so you can dual-boot both. That's basically it.
Also, look on YouTube, there are handy guides on there.

I read on these very forums that its possible to triple boot, all the way up to quintuple boot. Someone made different splash screens for all the different boot OS's.
But thanks for the help though, I'll at least have Android soon enough.

If as u say "Triple or Quintuple boot" means running either WP7 or WinMo 6.5 exclusively as a base, then running multiple builds of android "SD style" ? Then yeah u could do dat....But u can't have both WP7 & WinMo 6.5 on d same device as they both need exclusive storage in d same memory location....hweva if d above has been made possible? then pls do reply adding d link of such a post as i'm curious as 2 how it was pulled off.

No sorry. It's not possible. What's possible is to do is to boot WM and Ubuntu, WM and Android, WM and MeeGo (not yet released), WP7 and Android and possibly Android/WP7 and Ubuntu. Not too sure if you can do the last one. It's possible to have four OS' on the HD2, but not at the same time so it's not really 'triple booting' or 'quadruple booting' as you can only have two running at the same time.
No point in trying to contradict me dude.
Oh and btw that bootscreen you just flash from HSPL. Somebody could make one with an Apple logo, that doesn't mean it can run iOS.
Got it, running bluetopia now, you guys are awesome.
EDIT: NVM, got everything I needed, thanks all.

[Q] Why different ROM versions? (CLK/MAGLDR)

Hi everyone,
Been reading a lot on both boot loaders (CLK & MAGLDR),
Now I know what are the pros and cons of both.
My question is:
Why there must be two versions of the same ROM, one compatible with each boot loader?
AFAIK, both support the CWM-Recovery, and hence can install ROMs in .zip format.
So, why is it that developers release two versions of the same rom?
I'd really appreciate some lights in here.
Thank you all.

Hi,
I don't know if you have read the guide in my sig...number 2,
but I'm sure there is good information in there.
You can also post this question there and again I'm sure T-Macgnolia will help with any doubts you have.
AFAIK,but don't quote me,cLK is dependent on a single type of kernel(Tytung),which is not present in all ROMS.

I've really learned things I didn't know about MAGLDr menus and CWMR
I've also read the CLK section,
Still haven't found that specific answer I was looking for.
But thank you anyway, and tell you what, I am going to post my question there,
Thank you
EDIT:
Maybe it has something to do with the RMNET/PPP thingy, donno for sure!!!
CLK Makes ur device behave as if its a native android device...It has support for ROM Manager and its features...MAGLDR doesn't have such...Hwever i prefer MAGLDR as its has better data connection stability while CLK disconnects intermittently (RMNET/PPP issue).

Cedesmith ported Little Kernel few days before MAGLDR but released it a few days later and I am glad he didn't stay silence even though MAGLDR was out and cLK was a little buggy at that time. Let's say that he felt the need to release what he was working on!
cLK Roms can work with MAGLDR bootloader, but it is not happening for avoiding confusion.
It is simple, by changing the boot partition from yboot to rboot in MAGLDR a cLK ROM can work on MAGLDR (with PPP)
Now, why we have 2 different ROMs since they can both work in a single ROM.
Well some people prefer RMNET over PPP, there is a way for Android to identify on boot which version of bootloader the system has and choose PPP or RMNET.
In latest development T-Mobile wifi call is being developed, but for it to work libhtc_ril_wrapper needs to be removed (cLK needs it for data connections), on the other hand RMNET can work with out it as well.
One more is the yboot format of the boot partition which is currently used. If that is changed by only a few ROM devs it will make a mess and many people will be confused.
So in simple words 2 reasons why we don't have a single ROM for both bootloaders:
- boot partition format
- T-Mobile wifi call

Does it also have something to do with Tytung Kernel?
I mean, CLK is only compatible with ROMs which have this specific Kernel only?

[Q] Nand Android

How can we boot ubuntu when we are using NAND ANDROID ROM?
sorry.....no idea...
I guess you have MAGLDR installed for NAND android booting.
So, the bad news is, currently you can boot Ubuntu from SD. But it's glitchy and many things don't work (touchscreen, wifi to begin with - it's non-functional).
The good news? I heard new Ubuntu 0.4 release for HD2 will support MAGLDR booting. Then it should work just ok.

Haha, we are both right there was little misunderstanding.
Touchscreen works if you boot it with HaRET. If you boot it with MAGLDR, it doesn't.
NOW I have an idea. But I didn't test it and I don't know the result. Maybe I will try it as soon as I do backup of my current phone, as it requires flashing new android rom.
MAGLDR is one of the available NAND Android bootloaders. Second is cLK. And cLK supports fastboot.
Basically, it should be possible to boot ubuntu from sd just like it was done on Desire HD. Look at "instructions" section of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045910
I have no idea about the results. Any volunteers to test it?
That's interresting, I would prefer a MAGLDR version but that's an idea!
Too bad that I can't test it now
I tried the cLK/fastboot solution.
It works the same as MAGLDR. Touchscreen doesn't work. When I try to load bcm4329 (wifi module) it spits our errors and doesn't bring up any network interface. Also some errors about power management on login screen.
I was hopeful but to no avail :-( still no way to boot functional GNU/Linux when having linux in NAND.
fpu
Thank you for your return fpu
Too bad that it doesn't work like that...
So we have to wait for the 0.4 version, or slackware version... Hope that will be working one day!
Just want to add that I tried another "possible" solution - kexec.
I compiled tytung r10 kernel with kexec support and tried to load ubuntu 0.3 kernel and initrd.
Black screen is the result. So no luck here either.
