Hi everyone,
Been reading a lot on both boot loaders (CLK & MAGLDR),
Now I know what are the pros and cons of both.
My question is:
Why there must be two versions of the same ROM, one compatible with each boot loader?
AFAIK, both support the CWM-Recovery, and hence can install ROMs in .zip format.
So, why is it that developers release two versions of the same rom?
I'd really appreciate some lights in here.
Thank you all.

Hi,
I don't know if you have read the guide in my sig...number 2,
but I'm sure there is good information in there.
You can also post this question there and again I'm sure T-Macgnolia will help with any doubts you have.
AFAIK,but don't quote me,cLK is dependent on a single type of kernel(Tytung),which is not present in all ROMS.

Thank you malybru,
I've just read everything on this fantastic reference thread, you recommended.
I've really learned things I didn't know about MAGLDr menus and CWMR
I've also read the CLK section,
Still haven't found that specific answer I was looking for.
But thank you anyway, and tell you what, I am going to post my question there,
Thank you
EDIT:
Maybe it has something to do with the RMNET/PPP thingy, donno for sure!!!
CLK Makes ur device behave as if its a native android device...It has support for ROM Manager and its features...MAGLDR doesn't have such...Hwever i prefer MAGLDR as its has better data connection stability while CLK disconnects intermittently (RMNET/PPP issue).

Cedesmith ported Little Kernel few days before MAGLDR but released it a few days later and I am glad he didn't stay silence even though MAGLDR was out and cLK was a little buggy at that time. Let's say that he felt the need to release what he was working on!
cLK Roms can work with MAGLDR bootloader, but it is not happening for avoiding confusion.
It is simple, by changing the boot partition from yboot to rboot in MAGLDR a cLK ROM can work on MAGLDR (with PPP)
Now, why we have 2 different ROMs since they can both work in a single ROM.
Well some people prefer RMNET over PPP, there is a way for Android to identify on boot which version of bootloader the system has and choose PPP or RMNET.
In latest development T-Mobile wifi call is being developed, but for it to work libhtc_ril_wrapper needs to be removed (cLK needs it for data connections), on the other hand RMNET can work with out it as well.
One more is the yboot format of the boot partition which is currently used. If that is changed by only a few ROM devs it will make a mess and many people will be confused.
So in simple words 2 reasons why we don't have a single ROM for both bootloaders:
- boot partition format
- T-Mobile wifi call

Thank you zach,
Does it also have something to do with Tytung Kernel?
I mean, CLK is only compatible with ROMs which have this specific Kernel only?
Thank you again for the explanation

Hey Guy's,
Just got my HD2 and have been reading in the forum but just want to ask a couple of questions and get some feedback. I've read the newb thread and understand what I need to do as far as radio, HSPL and i've seen CWM recovery. My questions are...
1. Once I install a NAND ROM with HSPL and CWM recovery, is it possible to go back to ALL stock ROM, SPL and whatever recovery the HD2 came with? I think I read to just flash a Official ROM and it will do this?
2. Is CWM the way to go... Does it work like it should with backups and wipes and such?
3. Which ROMs have you guy's found to be the best daily drivers and most stable both Froyo and Gingerbread?
4. Do the NAND ROMs have root already or do I need to root somehow?
Thanks in advance for any help with these questions!
First of all welcome inthe HD2 "world".
To answer your questions:
1/ Yes
2/ I don't use it but it seems to work as it has to.
3/ Noone can answer such a question, it depends of what you want to do with your device. We all use it in a totally different way (except we all give calls).
Most of the devs do a very good job.
So read their thread, what is working, what is not.
Read the community comments (you will see the problems they encounter, the questions they have)
Most important, try some. After a while you will find the one which is suitable for you... and maybe become a flash addict as many of us
4/ all the one I tried where rooted, just read the description of the ROM
PS: carefull of the type of NAND as we no have DAF (without CWM), zip (CWM)... but it will just not flash, I don't think there's a big risk.
Thanks for the quick reply! (Thank You button hit)
That helps alot... And yes, i'll be a flash addict just as I am on all of my phones!
Yes, welcome to HD2. Best phone out with tons of options. I've tested many roms and have to say my current setup is outstanding. Refer to my signature, you will find your phone will run great. You will also be ready for a WinMo 7 flash in the event you care to try it out.
My first thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Champagne tonite
LOL...Not a problem!
Thanks goes to you also Devils1stBorn... I will try that ROM out first, it is one that I was looking at. Does it have the black notificatoin bar by chance?
OK... I'm on CleadDroid v1.11 now and it is AWESOME! Thanks again Truc007 and... Devils1stBorn for the ref to that ROM, but the only problem I seem to be having is 5 of my purchased apps and one free app won't install from the market. I keep getting Download Unsuccessful.
Any idea?
Are you on NAND or SD??
Sent from MIUI ROM XDA App
I'm on NAND... CleanDroid v1.11
Thanks for the help DH!
I switched to another ROM and all is fine now. I'll wait for an update to CleanDroid and try it again then because it is an awesome ROM. But MDJ's is nice too.
Alright, so I bought a used HD2 for $150 today and gave my fiancee my rooted Galaxy S running Bionix 2.2. Now I have this Windows 6.5 phone and no clue how to get it to run Android.
I have looked across the forums and all it does it make my head begin to smoke, lol. I am completely and utterly lost. I'd like to be able to boot into the multiple OS's, Android (preferably the HyperDroid ROM), Win7, and whatever the main third one is, and get that cool "Resistance is Futile" boot screen.
Right now though, I am reading about MAGLDR and stuff and it's saying I need radio and this and that and I have no clue what its talking about, nor any of the other stuff. I am quite surprised I was even able to root and ROM my Galaxy S, though I used a one click root and the ROM was a simple install.
Please help a daft idiot who is in dire need of some Android, lol.
EDIT:
Read this on the tmobile forum. I know nothing about radios, but I like the sound of the improved reception and battery life.
You will need to go to the XDA Developers website and find the ROM Development section. There are many to choose from. I use the Energy Sense with Cookie Classic and GTX ROM using the Froyo Sense 3.1 build. Also search for the thread on increasing the battery life. Changing the registry line code made a world of difference for me. Now I can easily have my HD2 in standby mode with auto sync and WiFi on for two days on one charge with light use. I am now using the Android 2.2 build as my daily OS. I am currently using radio 2.14.50.04 and previously had 2.12.50.02. Battery life on the newer radio for me is better when the phone is in use, about the same when not in use but the cell reception is much better than before.

Thanks man!
Now, if I use that method to get Android on my phone, will I later be able to have it dual boot with Win7, or triple boot with Win7 and Ubuntu?
It's not possible to 'thriple boot'.
Basically these are the steps you need:
Flash HSPL 2.08 on your HD2.
Flash the newest radio (2.15.50.14).
Flash MAGLDR.
Just look around for the links. They're all in the stickies anyway.
After that you csn flash WP7 to NAND and Android to the SD Card so you can dual-boot both. That's basically it.
Also, look on YouTube, there are handy guides on there.

I read on these very forums that its possible to triple boot, all the way up to quintuple boot. Someone made different splash screens for all the different boot OS's.
But thanks for the help though, I'll at least have Android soon enough.

If as u say "Triple or Quintuple boot" means running either WP7 or WinMo 6.5 exclusively as a base, then running multiple builds of android "SD style" ? Then yeah u could do dat....But u can't have both WP7 & WinMo 6.5 on d same device as they both need exclusive storage in d same memory location....hweva if d above has been made possible? then pls do reply adding d link of such a post as i'm curious as 2 how it was pulled off.

No sorry. It's not possible. What's possible is to do is to boot WM and Ubuntu, WM and Android, WM and MeeGo (not yet released), WP7 and Android and possibly Android/WP7 and Ubuntu. Not too sure if you can do the last one. It's possible to have four OS' on the HD2, but not at the same time so it's not really 'triple booting' or 'quadruple booting' as you can only have two running at the same time.
No point in trying to contradict me dude.
Oh and btw that bootscreen you just flash from HSPL. Somebody could make one with an Apple logo, that doesn't mean it can run iOS.
Got it, running bluetopia now, you guys are awesome.
EDIT: NVM, got everything I needed, thanks all.
Hey everyone.. If theres any thread that thoroughly explains how to install Android 2.3.4 please direct me and help me out! If not, please help me out on this thread of my own.
I'm seeking to flash Android 2.3.4 on my HTC HD2(T-Mobile USA). I'm a total noob with flashing but i see some videos and things like that on youtube. I dont know whats going on in those videos and how they do it. Right now im on Windows Mobile 6.5(sad).. I want to upgrade to Android 2.3.4 because it seems to unleash the phone's full potential right?
I'd really like to have the best Android 2.3.4 ROM and not some laggy full of bloatware Android ROM. I like performance i hate it when my phone is skippy, sluggish and laggy. I see the Cyanogenmod7(CM7) on the HTC HD2s.. Is there anything better than that(performance wise and software compatibility)?
Need some help and direction where to go and some information on whats going on and how to do this! Please and thanks a lot!
All the information you need is in the sticky topics or via the search button.
Also you should get this, It will make things easier for you.
btw since you are semi-new you wont have been presented with the new XDA video upon signup, please watch this and take note, please dont be offended, watch it all the way through as it has valuable information.

NAND vs SD? These are two different ways to install the Android ROM.
How is the stock WinMo 6.5 installed? Obviously not SD. NAND right? Or is it installed some totally different way?
All this seems really confusing to me >.< sorry for being a noob i cant help it, im trying to learn though i want to see my HD2 looking at me with an Android OS saying "Free at last! Free at last!"
PS: Whats MAGLDR and cLK???

HI,
I think you should be aiming for a NAND system(faster and more stable...no WM involved )
Be prepared for A LOT of reading...
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
then check my sig...guide number 2 (I would go for MAGLDR to begin with)
use this tool to install task 29,HSPL, magldr and CWM partition.
Check here for ROMS:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
Remember:
The more you read, the more you will understand, the fewer mistakes you will make.
Lol its okay about the reading, if i get useful information and knowledge that i actually am interested in i'd keep reading =]
The sad thing is.. I'm reading about cLK and MAGLDR...
MAGLDR on the HTC HD2 will use RMNET, which gives a more stable data connection, but with packet loss(slower speed). While cLK gives faster connection(i dont think theres packet loss obviously), but the connection is not as stable and could freeze up Android. Plus, both MAGLDR and cLK are just different types of ROMs but both can be for Android, and in order to change from a MAGLDR to a cLK ROM you need to re-flash the whole device to the desired ROM.. Correct? (read carefully if its mixing you up, sorry)
Thats what my brain has taken in and gotten out of reading various threads and posts throughout the forum. That is accurate and true correct?

Hi,
OK.MAGLDR and cLK are different bootloaders.clk is more android friendly because it is native andoid, but there might be packet loss (this might be avoidable with the use of "wrappers",but I have only read this...I use magldr)
I suggested magldr cos its easier..end of.
Ksubedi has been very busy in the past couple of days simplifying the whole bootloader
situation.Check here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
He has also simplified the process of installing and switching between magldr and clk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111081
To sum up the choice is yours.
Magldr has got a game of Tetris you can play.
With cLK, you can charge the phone when its off.
So i might as well not flash any ROMs yet from Android since they are still defected in some ways. Thats lame =\
What about Windows Phone 7? Are there any defuncts on that ROM too?

Quitting already?
I thought you wanted your phone to come alive.HD2 was made for android.
Just choose a bootloader, go to the list I showed you ,pick a 2.3.4 like Hyperdroid and flash it. At least try it.Wm7 isn't perfect either.

I am looking for a ROM that is reliable, battery efficient and looks good.
I did find these two Roms on xda I liked:

Can anyone tell me what they recommend? And also, is quicker from Nand or SD card?
Many thanks
I can recommend this rom. I use it myself for months. It is fast and stable and has a good battery life. You should go for the nand version using magldr. But do not forget that you will not be able to charge your phone when it is off.

The best advice I can give you is to just go ahead and install an Android ROM to get the wheel rolling. Once your first ROM is flashed it is very easy to switch/update ROMs in no time at all, and you will inevitably be doing this.
The one you linked to is a perfect one to use to switch to Android. MIUI ROMs do look very good and are themeable so there's many options available if you don't like the stock look.
Personally, I use JW MIUI and have had very good battery life.
NAND is much better with regards to performance and battery life.
Good luck and make sure to read and follow the guides closely.

If I have already flashed, how would I change to this ROM?
Stupid Question....
Sorry guys, maybe stupid question.
I read a lot, there must be a install.exe or DAF.exe in the download, is'nt it?
I flashed my HD2 some month ago with "gpc_hd2_gingerbread_v18", there was a DAF exe in!
In the current downloads is no on? For example in "HD2_NDT_GINGER_CM7_BASED_V15.0_MAGLDR.zip"

new roms dont use daf method. instead you make a proper nand partition(as said in OP's of roms) , then you put rom.zip to sd card, then you flash it using ad recovery in mgldr menu.

If your previous Android flash was using the DAF.exe method the process this time round will be a little different.
Regardless, if you currently have WinMo on you are going to have to flash MAGLDR (Boot loader) and then CWM (Clockwork Mod Recovery). From CWM you are able to flash new Android ROMs as well as backup, restore and many other usefull things.
You should be able to find guides here on XDA on how to do all of the above to your HD2.

The Clk version is for use with a different bootloader called CLK.
The MAGLDR version is for use with Magldr/CWM combination discussed earlier.
I have always used MAGLDR/CWM so I can't comment on the use of CLK.

Why are you installing a MAGLDR ROM onto a cLK setup? You need a cLK ROM, or at least one like TBD Sensation or RCMix that have a yes/no option during the CWM install process to select either cLK or MAGLDR installation. CLK needs a whole lot of extra files for data to work as it uses a completely different protocol to MAGLDR (PPP on cLK as opposed to RMNET on MAGLDR) - without those files, scripts and build.prop entries you will never get it to work.
re
it is a Runnymade rom, which I have as MGLDR. I can choose RC3D mix and to reinstallation also MGLDR or CLK. In this kernel are all negotiating scripts.
Many Thanks

Hey, it's undeniable that the judgement of where to put this thread was incorrect and had to be moved, but that's been sorted out now so drop it.
And I ask about the APN settings because there are tonnes of people who don't do the simple things first, and why use a complicated full wipe/install until you've ruled out all of the simple things? Sure you have checked it but if you look through the forums you will be absolutely amazed at how stupid people can be. I also ask about this because in Typhoon CM7 I get automatic APN settings but in Sense 3.0 and 3.5 ROMs which I've tried I always get incorrect settings. So there, have I expanded on my reply sufficiently for you?
