Hi - I have tried to search for this so if it is available I'm sorry.
I recently bought TomTom Navigator 7 on a MSD card. Its a 4GB card. I have an 8GB MSD card onboard and want to keep this as I have folders, emails and music on this card. I have tried to do a simple copy from the TomTom card to my 8GB card so that I can run everything off one card instead of having to change over cards when I want Sat Nav. When I start the TomTom App (from the 8GB card) it states NO Maps. I know they are there as I can see them. The app comes with Western Europe Maps at 1GB. Can you help me run the app off the 8GB card. Many thanks. Paul
Just put the map folder in the root of the card or in My Documents folder.
You prolly need to reactivate the maps due to the change of SD card.
Just copy everything from the 4GB to the 8GB and run the install program.
Thank you folks - er but - what I did was to simply copy the entire contents of the Tom Tom card to my 8GB card. When I insert it back into my HD2 it does not Autorun as the 4GB TomTom card does. Also, sorry to be a plank, but how do I copy the maps to the root of the SD card.
When you look at the card with the my documents, program files etc in it, then that's where the "2GB Western Europe" or whatever folder the map is in should be, with the name of the folder showing.
Don't copy the contents of the folder out, you want the folder name to show.

Thats what I thought
Don't you need to generate a new code based on the "Hardware ID" from where the maps are sitting?

TomTom uses the device ID to identify a genuine installation, so it's nothing to do with the SD card. I know this from previously "reading" about TomTom

sorry if this has already been asked. I couldn't find anything through the search facility.
I have an unlocked m600 (Prophet) and have bought tomtom6 with UK maps. It all works fine, except I have a 2gb SD card which i want to install tomtom onto so i do not have to carry more than one card. Is this possible? Can anybody help me with a step by step guide for idiots on how to do it?
ok, I've managed to find posts that say copy all to a temp folder onto a pc and then copy onto new storage card and it should work, but i only see a no maps installed error message. It's the same PDA so there shouldn't be any problems with the activation code. ( i think)
thanks for any help/light you guys/girls can shed on it.
the map file has to be in the 1 level dir. Example this will not work "Storage card\TomTom\Map" . This will work "Storage card\TomTomMap"
From my experiance, if it is original TomTom SD card then you may have a problem copying it because they do something to it to prevent it from being copied. I have tried this with TomTom for GO 510. As yet I have not foud the solution to copying the TomTom card. You have nothing to lose if you copy your TomTom card to PC and than back to the other card and than try it.
I'm trying to install TomTom6 on my Vario II but the TomTom Home software does not see any free space on the device or storage - and so won't let me install the software to it. I have 600mb or so free on the card and 30+mb on the device.
Any ideas?
Any helpful suggestions as tow which files need to be moved to where on the device to by-pass their installation process?
TIA
Soft boot it, I have had trouble with a 1GB sandisk flash not properly seeing the file system.
dont forget to backup your important data prior to reset.

Hi!
I use tomtom 6 and for as I know you need 2gb of free space for tomtom 6..so..maybe thats why its says, you dont have enough free space..
but I use the map western-europe
Are you installing from cd or from an sd card version. I can't comment on the cd but to install from sd card use a card reader to copy all the files onto the top layer of a micro sd using file explorer on the pc and then use the file explorer on the tytn to find the tomtom exe and start it. this triggers the full install routine on the ppc. maybe you can do the same from cd. I have a 1gb micro sd and have no issues with capacity. the tomtom files use up about 300mb . any help?
Hi
I have 8 GB micoSD card, and I am planning to upgrade buy new SD card with higher capacity ..
I have a lot of program that already installed on my current card ..
Do I need to reinstall all the program again in the new card? or just copy the files?
Regards,
You can just copy your files across, and all programs should work as normal.
Some apps however, eg Garmin may stop working as it uses the card's serial number.
Hi all, noticed that TT7 is only supplied on a memory card, I don't want to have to keep swapping memory cards so can I copy it onto my "main" memory card? Thanks for the info.

That's exactly what I did. Although I wasn't sure what to copy over so I copied the whole lot over.
Arr that's good stuff. Did'nt want to get involved in swapping chips around. Will order TT7 when I order my HD2. Got a TyTN2 at the moment and TT6. Ta again
Dont' forget that you need the following file in order to get TT7 working with HD2
www.tomtom.com/updates/ttn7.zip
Unzip it and copy the folder 2577 and the file Start.exe onto the memory card
Switch the PDA OFF and ON to start the installation or just re-insert the memory card or just open Start.EXE from the root of your storage card.
I installed tomtom onto my phone from a sd card that came with phone ,it installed perfectly but when i took out the card and put my own sd card back in although i could still get to the tomtom installation there were no maps ,my question is can i transfer the maps to the sd card i use.
you have to copy the maps on your SD card to be able to use them. Do maps work when you use that other SD card? in that case it is a matter of copying the files from that other sd card to your own
