Hi
I have 8 GB micoSD card, and I am planning to upgrade buy new SD card with higher capacity ..
I have a lot of program that already installed on my current card ..
Do I need to reinstall all the program again in the new card? or just copy the files?
Regards,
You can just copy your files across, and all programs should work as normal.
Some apps however, eg Garmin may stop working as it uses the card's serial number.

Hey guys,
I bought a mini sdhc 4gb store card to replace my onde one.
Is possible migrate all the software and data I have on my 1gb storage to this new one without having to hardreset and reinstalll/ uninstall all the programs ?
When I change my SD card, my phone freeezes because of some interaction with the currently 1g SD card but when I boot using Safe mode I see that the 4 gb card is fully functional.
Do you know if is this possible?
Thanks in advance!
i've don it many times

Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.
Hi all, noticed that TT7 is only supplied on a memory card, I don't want to have to keep swapping memory cards so can I copy it onto my "main" memory card? Thanks for the info.

That's exactly what I did. Although I wasn't sure what to copy over so I copied the whole lot over.
Arr that's good stuff. Did'nt want to get involved in swapping chips around. Will order TT7 when I order my HD2. Got a TyTN2 at the moment and TT6. Ta again
Dont' forget that you need the following file in order to get TT7 working with HD2
www.tomtom.com/updates/ttn7.zip
Unzip it and copy the folder 2577 and the file Start.exe onto the memory card
Switch the PDA OFF and ON to start the installation or just re-insert the memory card or just open Start.EXE from the root of your storage card.
Sorry, but another basic question which I've searched for the answer but can't find an answer that makes sense to me.
I have an x8 running on Gingerdx v010. Runs great.
I have just been given a 8gb Micro SD Card, Class 10.
What's the best way to go about swapping the stock sd card with this new one - do i just copy and paste all off the old sd card onto my desktop, and then copy all that back to the new sd card?
Or do I need to partition the card in any special way?
I'm a beginner at this, so please don't get too technical!
I'd like to put some music on the new card, and I reckon i've got a few GB of albums etc to put on it. also, will probably try to put as much as possible on it to make sure there's plenty of available RAM in the internal memory.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
This is a really useful site - glad I found it.

bump... anyone?
Backup copy/move all the files in old sdcard to PC. Insert your new sdcard and boot, enter CWM>advanced option>partition sdcard>select 512mb>then zero swap. reboot. Then copy/move ur files to new sdcard You can also partition using windows You just need partition if you are installing many apps like me
Partitioning is not required, just copy data over from old card to new card.
Hello,
I know I already asked before, but now I need more informations.
I have a focus, fully unlocked. All my apps was installed with TOM XAP installer and Feedom marketplace wirelessly.
I have a 4gig sandisk inside, from the beginning. I would like to have a 8 gig.
I just made a full backup with CAB sender and a APPS backup with WP7AppBackupUI
When I insert my new 8gig card, the phone said to me that the storage card does'nt working.
Here's my question: If I restart the phone with volume - camera and power, I'm prompted to format. If I'm doing it is it only the media card or it's all the phone? I'm asking it because if I want to rollback, and put it back my old 4gig card, what happen? I'll be prompt to format or what?
What happen with the hack after storage card upgrade?
thanks

Good, you will be able to use this to revert back to the state in the backup.

If you restart the phone with a new card, you will hard reset your phone (everything, not just the card). Once installed, the memory card is like an extension of the phone's memory, they function as one, if you remove the card, it's like removing half of your HDD, for example
I'm asking it because if I want to rollback, and put it back my old 4gig card, what happen? I'll be prompt to format or what?
Yes, you will be prompted to format, each time you change a card. Again, you will need to hard reset. It's fine to lose the content on the card, since you have the backup
What happen with the hack after storage card upgrade?
Every time you change the microsd card, you will be prompted to format (aka hard reset). You will lose the sideloading ability. You will need to do the hack again.
thanks

I don't remember if I tried it or not, but if I remember correctly, he will not be able to restore the 4GB backup to the 8GB SD card will he? It will only restore to the same size?
Thanks EnderPsp!
I'm reconsidering my idea right now. It's a lot of work for only 4 more gigs...
But, wow! Awesome!

He won't be able to use the backup from the 4GB with the new 8 GBcard.
As I said, once the card is in and phone booted, the card becomes one with the phone memory, as a virtual extension. In the same time, an ID is calculated from the phone's IMEI + memory card serial number. Evidently, for every card's serial number is unique, and thus the ID changes with each card. The backup is also tied to this unique ID: it's encrypted using a key derived from this ID.
