Thats been a problem on some froyo roms, but shouldn't affect anything in my experience. Other devices have the same issue. I have seen it suggested that formatting your internal storage may fix the issue, but it didn't for me. All in all, I have not had a problem with wiping even when that error pops up.

I'm assuming the message you recieve is
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(file exists)
That partition (please note the bolded part) is for apps you have on your external sdcard. So if you do not have any apps on your external sdcard then you will get this message. The partition for your internal sd looks the same but ends in 0p2.
So in short: It's normal, don't worry about it, wipe your dalvik-cache like normal.

Hi, i am currently using Kyrillos Rom V 7.0 Non OC.
Yesterday,my phone battery drained to the end (not a problem until here).
When i arrived home i turned it on after charging for a while, but them, all my apps were gone. I can still see them at the Aplications Manager, but i cant "move to phone" (the box is hidden).
I got my SD card formated using a swap and a Ext4 partition so i can use Apps2SD+ and it was working fine for like 1 Month.
Also, my Market can't install any app anymore, since it shows "File Package is not Valid" message.
What i've tried :
1 - Setting / Storage / unmount - > mount Sd Card
2 - Recovery Mode -> Mount and Storage -> Mount Ext , Mount Sdcard , rebooted.
Nothing Worked,
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks.

Will this Wipe all my apps on Sd ?
I dont want to wipe my Sd card data by any means : (
Since i cant backup it using Titaniun Backup because i can't install it from market,i dont want to wipe my SD.
What exactly this "Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache" does ?
EDIT : Ok, Seems it doesn't destroy any piece of user data.
Wipping it now,and will be back to tell what happened
Didn't worked.
Any other help ?
This same thing happened to one of my very good friends Jinxskore. He then had to wipe data, cache and dalvik. All three. Then it was normal again. Your data will be lost I am afraid.

Fack.
Well,i am still looking for a non hardcore solution, hope i find it .
Thanks anyway.
Anyone else ?
I'm starting to lose my faith : (
Try to use Titanium Backup, install it from your pc!
I have the same thing every time I boot up. After my media scanner is finished it just doesn't show my apps. Only sometimes when I wait very long it shows them. So I try to keep my phone on as long as I can. But I can't install apps from the market either. I touch for example 'free' press accept and it just doesn't start downloading anything! But a reboot fixes the install problem most of the time for a while...
Btw what kinda sd card are you using? I have a 16gb class 2.
So I blame my problems to that.
I have an idea
Hey about Contacts and SMS backup use relavant apps. Contacts can be backed up on Sd card and copied to pc, I dont think sms backup needed you can let them go if they are important PM me to tell you a method. I hope you have root explorer. If no download it from a PC file sharing website and simply install it. Go to /-->data-->app Copy all apks of your installed apps to sd.
Now you wont lose your apps. Backup SD. I would recommend to use *2676*3855# and Hard Reset/ Factory Format your phone. Format SD after complete backup and re partition do all again, set up phone enjoy it again.
Hello,
I cannot wipe data trough CWM, and cannot install new ROM (it boots forever).
Looks like I have got internal memory problems...
I can boot CWM only.
Any idea how to format internal memory thru CWM?.. Or any other advice?..

Well if you went into the "mounts and storage" menu as advised, you'd see only two options for system, data, and cache, which would be "mount" or "format".
Which would you choose?
Somehow all that CWM formats didn't work for me...
Even after I placed the empty file"eraseData" (according to Thor) to CWM folder....
Actually, hardware reset saved my tablet
It didn't format the whole thing too, but it cleaned /data/ at least.
Any way, thank you very much for your help.
Does there exist some tool like "checkdisk" for Android?
I believe I still have to check somehow my internal memory card...,

I did an extensive search for an android disk utility, but couldn't find one, sorry
Oops, just found one, but it's only a defrag utility:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.disk.defrag.rubiks&hl=en
long shot.. but.. you haven't encrypted your tablet have you?
If you've encrypted your tablet in order to access corporate exchange servers then you will find that none of these will work until you've done a factory reset (through the annoying as hell switch flicking method )

When the guide says full wipe it means deleteing system, data, cache and davlik cache right?
Do i need to format my emmc too? What happens if i format it? TIA~
What guide? What are you trying to do?
just trying to confirm whether full wipe means formatting system data cache and dalvik cache

Generally that's what it means. But if you wipe the first three you have wiped dalvik.
One of the reasons we asked what you were trying to do, you asked about wiping emmc too. It makes a difference what you are trying to wipe whether you try to do anything to emmc.
Edit: By emmc, did you mean the emmc media partition or emmc as the whole device? I can think of only one reason to wipe the emmc media partition, and that is if you are transferring the device to someone else and you want none of your stuff on there. I think a "factory reset" wipes everything except /system.

i meant formatting my /emmc
That is because i saw some traces of my photos thumbnails there even though i've moved the photos to my computer.

It won't hurt to erase everything in your media partition. Whatever the nook needs, it will rebuild. No need to format, just delete things with your file manager.

I am having serious issues with my nook. not sure if it means that it is too far gone please help.....new to this
My nook was rooted. I attempted to set back to stock.
1. loaded cwr 3.0.2.8
2. Installed nook.color 1_4_1
3. rebooted
4. Nook went to N screen and stuck
5. tried factory reset recieved errors
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/loginterrrupt
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
5. did factory reset
retried load same errors
tried 8x load intrrupt and factory reset
went back to cwr same errors present
tried to instal 1.4.1 again with errors
nook boots to N screen and hangs there. Could someone please help????
You need to use a newer version of CWR http://mrm3.net/blog/2011/03/11/nook-color-updated-clockwork-recovery-bootable-sd/. Put the 1.4.1 stock zip on the root of the SD card (not in any folder). Wipe data/factory reset from the menu, clear the cache partition and dalvik cache (under advanced) and then flash zip from card and choose the 1.4.1 zip file.
still getting log errors
I am pretty sure that was the file i downloaded earlier. but i will try again. after wiping data and clearing cache partition i still get the log errors .data/sysVem error when formatted and nothing happened when i tried clearing dalvik cache. also get no app2sd partition found. i continued with the process. removed card...same issues sits at grey N screen..

must be something missing in main memory
You should pick one thread and post your questions there. It is hard to keep track of what is going on for the same problem in two threads. Check your MD5 sums and make sure you have good file downloads.
It sounds like you might have messed up your internal partitions at some point. If your files are good you might need to deal with recreating the partitions before they will flash correctly.
Will do.
How do I fix the partitions?

If you think you are having partition problems, see my new partition repair thread here.
Noob question here. I've seen several ROMs that say factory rest, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, which I've done many times on my GS3 and ROM'd over and over. I see on some of the N7 ROMs that say the same, but they add format data and format system before installing. Before I switch ROMs I just want some clarification. Would formatting data and system not wipe the ROM I've downloaded as well as all other data on the device? Am I incorrect in my assumption that formatting will completely wipe everything clean?
Thanks for any help from those that know.
Factory reset is just fine. It wipes data while leaving data/media intact. Formatting data, IIRC, will also wipe data/media, which will erase your virtual sd card. As for system, that is generally taken care of by the install script, although I personally opt to wipe it prior to flashing just to err on the side of caution.

You generally do NOT want to "wipe data", as that destroys the pseudo- SD card, which is where you've got all your device backups. Got those backups elsewhere?
"wipe dalvik" or "wipe cache" are superfluous because:
(a) the dalvik-cache area is in the portion of the /data partition that gets wiped by the "Factory Reset" selection. *1
(b) the /cache partition also gets wiped with the "Factory Reset" *1, *2
A lot of the "wipe this, wipe that" instructions persists in ROM installation instructions for cargo cult reasons, and also because devs for prior generations of Android releases may have provided customizations such as symlinking to move the dalvik cache onto ext partitions of external SD cards and so forth. (In that case if you wiped /data first before dalvik-cache, the symlink would disappear, and if the freshly-installed ROM also used the same trick... you would be restarting a new ROM with an old dalvik-cache from a different ROM).
If you want to know what a particular ROM or other flashable .zip file is going to do, unzip the contents of folder
./META-INF/com/android/metadata/
from that ROM/flashable .zip and have a look at the updat*-script file from that folder. It's a plain text file - open it in wordpad or notepad.
Even if you are a non-programmer, you will be able to immediately see what wipes are being performed.
In general, the installer script for full ROM installs will wipe the /system partition explicitly, whereas add-on or update packages will not.
Since there is no guarantee that a inexperienced ROM developer won't do something like wiping (all of) /data, it's not unreasonable for you to look at installer scripts before you use them. You will find that some devs are sloppier than others with things like missing assert() conditions and so forth.
*1 For TWRP anyway; I haven't used CWM for the N7 yet, so I won't vouch for that one.
*2 Note that if a Stock recovery is in use, iirc the "Factory Reset" procedure wipes all of /data - including your pseudo-SD card. So it's definition of "Factory Reset" is different from that of TWRP. Beware; Make backups!

i don't know but correct me if im wrong, coz last time on my sgs captivate days, i used to flash all kinds of rom, then there is this rom that i tried to flash that requires to format system, so i tried that rom and format system in cwm.. then when it bootup my imei messed up! i do not know if thats the reason but after that incident, i never format system anymore, just playing with wipe cache/dalvik factory reset and format sdcard in cwm works fine..
