I am having serious issues with my nook. not sure if it means that it is too far gone please help.....new to this
My nook was rooted. I attempted to set back to stock.
1. loaded cwr 3.0.2.8
2. Installed nook.color 1_4_1
3. rebooted
4. Nook went to N screen and stuck
5. tried factory reset recieved errors
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/loginterrrupt
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
5. did factory reset
retried load same errors
tried 8x load intrrupt and factory reset
went back to cwr same errors present
tried to instal 1.4.1 again with errors
nook boots to N screen and hangs there. Could someone please help????
You need to use a newer version of CWR http://mrm3.net/blog/2011/03/11/nook-color-updated-clockwork-recovery-bootable-sd/. Put the 1.4.1 stock zip on the root of the SD card (not in any folder). Wipe data/factory reset from the menu, clear the cache partition and dalvik cache (under advanced) and then flash zip from card and choose the 1.4.1 zip file.
still getting log errors
I am pretty sure that was the file i downloaded earlier. but i will try again. after wiping data and clearing cache partition i still get the log errors .data/sysVem error when formatted and nothing happened when i tried clearing dalvik cache. also get no app2sd partition found. i continued with the process. removed card...same issues sits at grey N screen..

this happens whether i use nook.zip or cyanogenmod...
with cyanogenmod screen goes black...
must be something missing in main memory
You should pick one thread and post your questions there. It is hard to keep track of what is going on for the same problem in two threads. Check your MD5 sums and make sure you have good file downloads.
It sounds like you might have messed up your internal partitions at some point. If your files are good you might need to deal with recreating the partitions before they will flash correctly.
Will do.
How do I fix the partitions?
i too have the same problem with my nook color did you find a way out yet

When ever I go into cwr and press advanced then wipe dalvik cache, a error comes up saying e:not mounted
File exists.
Its something cloae to that. Then i click on yes to wipe and it works. But im just wondering why it says that. I tested on my brothers phone and his didnt say it.

Thats been a problem on some froyo roms, but shouldn't affect anything in my experience. Other devices have the same issue. I have seen it suggested that formatting your internal storage may fix the issue, but it didn't for me. All in all, I have not had a problem with wiping even when that error pops up.

I'm assuming the message you recieve is
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(file exists)
That partition (please note the bolded part) is for apps you have on your external sdcard. So if you do not have any apps on your external sdcard then you will get this message. The partition for your internal sd looks the same but ends in 0p2.
So in short: It's normal, don't worry about it, wipe your dalvik-cache like normal.
Been semi bricked for hours... I messed up the emmc partitions using adb gparted dev/block/mmcbkl0 and now nook won't boot.. not even off SD card
the only thing i can get to boot off sd card image is rootpack which boots me into recovery.. i tried everything but no matter what I do in recovery i always get errors regarding the mounting of my cache and data, which obviously is because i deleted the partitions...
when i try to edit the partition table from adb parted denies me permission
please help... i'm very new to the nook and everything I just said I learned in the past 4 hours that i have been reading through forums trying to fix it..
thank you
In this very forum..

Besides, what makes you think you deleted the partitions? Did you?
on adb parted i went through every single one of the partitions and deleted them... only left one intact.. so i'm pretty sure i deleted them..
I have already tried flashing this and it flashed just fine however when I go back into the recovery menu I get the same error
E:\ something something can't mount data/recoverylog.log
E:\ something something can't mount cache/recoverylog.log
and four others just like it..
if anyone is willingto help the errors i get in clockwork recovery are
E: Can't Mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't Mount /cache/recovery/log

And why in gods name did you do that?
Anyway, get the repartition/fix tool that's in these forums.. I think in Development, might be in General. It just works.
don't know if anyone can help but I am getting my butt kicked. I have tried all the steps mentioned throughout this post and several others to no joy. I was trying to update to CM7 a few days ago and my nook stopped working. It was something I saw on youtube. Probably shouldn't have trusted it, don't know. Now whenever I am CWM I get
e:can't mount/cache, recovery/log
e:can't open/cache/recovery/log
e:can't mount/cache/recovery/last_log
e:can't open/cache/recovery/last_log.
also when I try to format system and date i get error formatting data! and error formatting/system! I am using CWD 3.0.2.8 and I can't use ADB either. My computer will not recognize the nook in device manager.

M8, I don't know which version of your NC, but I do suggest NOT to use that version of CwM Recovery.
Get the 3.2.0.1 first and then we can start from there.
Thanks I have 3.2.0.1 downloaded.

Yeah, that's not going to do anything...
What will work is putting eyeballer on an sdcard and reinstalling your rom.

eyeballer is the CWR 3.2.0.1 right? I tried that but no joy.
I just restored my NC after having boot loops, and failing to mount the SD after the latest CM9 nightly install. The only thing that got it to mount the SD I had the restore on was to put eyeballer's 1gb CWM 3.2.01 image on a Sandisk 4gb card along with a CM7.2 zip, and booting from that. Once that booted, I swapped cards and restored the NC from the card. IIRC, I had to do a few steps more than once, and did a full reset before booting from the image card. A real PITA, but I got my Nook back.

That is strange because I was having the same issues with my own tablet and I decided to format the SD card. When I did nothing was gone from the card... It just would not format in the device. I decided to try formatting it from my PC, and it would fail at the same time during formatting everytime. After replacing the card all of my problems were gone.

So, my Defy had been stuck on the CM logo a few days ago I decided on doing a wipe data and cache but it seems somewhere along the way something went wrong and now for some reason the internal storage disappeared, it just shows, in the storage tab, to be of 0.00b of size and 51.75mb of space used.
I don't know if it means anything but I'm also getting this errors on the recovery mode:
E: Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E: Can't mount CACHE:recovery/caller
E: Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
Any help will be gladly appreciated, thanks.

Hi! I had encountered this (or a 99% similar) problem when I installed CM10 (which never worked ever...) and then it got bootloop, so after that I tried to revert back to CM9, and I got the Encryption Unsuccessful message, and when I tried to revert further more back, on CM7.x it just goes bootloop, no message. This problem WAS NOT caused by ext3/ext4 partition in my case, so it seemed that the ROM/CWM just lost it's permission to access the internal storage.
I solved the problem using the good old JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf which always did the trick. (You'll gotta go back to Éclair, than some tricky way to Froyo, what is known as the latest stock rom for Defy)
GL to revive your device!
I know there is a lot of information out here about the nook color not being able to boot but none of it seems to fix this issue. I was trying to upgrade my nook from cyanogenmod 7.2 to cyanogenmod 10.2. I used Rom Manager on the device and downloaded the new ROM. Everything was fine until I told it to install. The nook went to reboot and I was presented with a black screen. I couldn't get it to do anything and I thought it was dead forever. I then installed a bootable ROM on my SD card and was able to get it to boot from the SD card. I have attempted to install several different versions onto the EMMC but none will boot. When I reboot the nook it just goes to a black screen and sits there, even with the SD card in it. This is the only sequence that allows me to get my nook color to boot from an sd card:
1) Hold the "n" and power buttons for 30 seconds (I think this forces it to power down)
2) Push and hold power button for a few seconds.
If I do this with a bootable SD card installed the nook boots the SD card. If I do this without the SD card installed I just get a black screen. I have tried many things from many threads here. I have tried fixing partitions, installing new ROMS and other things but nothing seems to work. I know the nook is not bricked because I can boot it from the SD card. I think the boot partition may be the issue. When I am booted from the SD card I can mount all partitions except "/boot". Should I be able to mount this partition?
I just need to know how to get my nook back to a state where it will boot without the SD card inserted. I know how to create a bootable SD card and install zips.
Very frustrated at this point, guidance that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks.
You said you tried fixing partitions. How did you do that and what were the results? Were you using my partition repair zips from my partition repair thread linked in my signature?
And ROM Manager assumes you have a correct version of CWM installed on internal memory. It is best not to use that tool. It is way outdated. It is best to install ROMs manually with CWM.

Yes I have done 2 out of the 3 zips you have on your post. 1) NookColor-emmc-repair-partitions-1-4-5-6-7-8.zip and 2)NookColor-emmc-format-partitions-5-6-7-8.zip. I did not do the partition 2 zip as it looked like it may cause more problems. However, I'm not sure it could get much worse.
Today I ran the RecoveryFix.zip from this post --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958748
No Help. Same issue, I reboot and nothing but a black screen. I have to do the 2 steps I described in my original post to get the SD card to boot. Is there a way I can see what is on the nook partitions? These tools allow me to copy zip files but there is nothing that allows me to look around on the nooks internal partitions. What does the nook need to boot without the SD card. It seems there must be something partially working because I can get the SD card to boot...
Thanks I advance for your help.
Need to fix internal hard drive...
Ok, so now I'm pretty sure it's just my internal memory that is screwed up. I installed CM 7.2 on an SD card and now my nook color is running from the SD card. But if I take the SD card out and try to reboot all I get is a black screen(Not even a flash or anything when hitting the power button). So right not the only thing my nook can do is boot from the SD card.
How can I fix the internal memory??

Try flashing the repair partition 2 zip. It has protections built in to prevent further damage.
Then go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature and return to stock via item A15. Be sure to flash the format zip listed there too. Then you should be able to start over.

Ok, I think I may have totally screwed this nook up. I found some other repartition//format zips that I ran trying to fix the problem. Now I can't even run from the SD card. It tries to boot but I get an error and it fails. I tried to run your repairpartition2.zip file but it did not work. This is the output:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E:failed to open last_instal: no such file or directory

Opening update package...

Repair /rom partition (P2)
Checking for /factory - if ot found will return error message and repair will be aborted.

E:Error in /sdcard/NookColor-emmc-repair-partition-2.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I've also noticed that it cannot mount any of the partitions from the booted SD card any more. I'm seeing
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log and other errors
I think one of the other .zips I ran screwed things up even more. Am I now screwed up past the point of no return? I have very good unix knowledge but very little android knowledge. Is there anything I can do with the adb utility to help here.
Thanks for all your suggestions so far. It seems like I need to redo this thing from scratch and need some guidance on how to do it.
More Info: Now when booted from SD card I cannot mount "/boot", "/system", "/data", "/emmc" or "/cache" partitions. I wish I could get a shell and look around on the rom...

That error message says your factory partition is gone and it contained info there that is vital and un-retreivable. You might be able to rebuild your partitions but some ROMs will never run without that backup info from /factory (partition 3). You just got too aggressive with your partition repairs.
