At CES 2011 Samsung was giving away spare batteries to Samsung owners. (Thanks Samsung!)
The battery charged fine with my 3rd party wall charger (obtained with 2 spare no-name batteries via ebay), but when the new Samsung battery is in the phone and I connect my wall charger, the phone dies until the cable is removed.
Obviously, voltage is dropping below what the phone can handle while the new battery is installed and the charger is connected.
The original battery is a EB575152VA and has a black label.
The new battery is a EB575152YZ and has a blue label.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Robert
Grrr! They we're?! I wish I would've known.
Are you positive it's not your charger?
damn damn damn!! i want a spare too!
They're prolly trying to blow up your vibrant to force you to get a Nexus S

Your 3rd party wall charger may have fubared the battery. Just an idea. Alot of 3rd party wall chargers are set to behave/charge a specific way, which can nuke newer specialized batteries if they behave different than the ones released when the aftermarket charger was (even if the new battery is for the same device). The panasonic toughbook batteries are prime examples.
A few months ago I purchased a battery charging stand and additonal battery from Verizon (I own the Vibrant). This battery has the same blue label. It functions fine in the phone but if I connect to charge, it powers off. Additionally, when I put my Vibrant battery into the Verizon charging stand, it will not charge that battery. I have searched many forums and have not found a reasonable explanation or solution. How much different can these two batteries be?
After looking up the model of the battery and poking around.
http://sunpow.forumotion.com/t207-samsung-fascinate-battery-eb575152yz
Though Verizon's Fascinate belongs to Samsung's Galaxy S series, the Fascinate uses a different battery from other Galaxy S phones like AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G and T-Mobile Vibrant. From the appearance, the Fascinate battery looks exactly the same as that of other Galaxy S Phones. But the chip inside is totally different. The Fascinate battery can't work on other Galaxy S phones, vice versa.
Both rated at 1500mAh, the Fascinate battery's OEM part number is EB575152YZ/EB575152YZBSTD, while the OEM part number for other Galaxy S phones is EB575152VA/EB575152VABSTD. Here are details of Fascinate battery:
Battery Type:Li-ION
Battery Capacity: 1500mAh
Voltage:3.7V
Weight: 33 grams
Size: 51mm x 51mmx5mm
Original battery code: EB575152YZ, EB575152YZBSTD
Compatible with Fascinate, Mesmerize, Showcase, SCH-I500

More than likely it has something specific to do with when its mode changes for charging. The chip regulates the charge to the battery to optimize battery life and decrease efficiency loss. You can read more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
Yeah, I made this mistake; I bought the official Samsung external battery charger from Verizon because it was $10 cheaper than the one from Sprint.
Foolish mistake; the one from Verizon only works on the Fascinate and the Mesmerize. The one from Sprint works on the Epic 4G, the Vibrant and the Captivate, but for whatever reason, it's $50, while the Verizon one is $40.
Still, $50 for an external charger plus spare battery is better than T-Mobile US charging $45 for just the Vibrant battery!
I think you need a aftermarket charger in this case. I have got a set from china and work for different brand of battery. Luckily.

Even with an aftermarket charger, it doesn't fix the problem with the battery being intended for the Fascinate and Mesmerize and not the Vibrant. The phone will not be stable with this battery installed.
From my experience using the blue Samsung battery: the Vibant will freeze often, and the battery gauge will not be accurate (off by +/-20% or more), the battery will drain ridiculously fast and the phone will become very hot.

3000mAh battery for vibrant on ebay for $20... came with the extended back cover a bit different at first but I got used to it. Works great.
Sent from my smokin fast vibrant.

I think the Samsung agent gave me a Fascinate battery instead of the one for everything else (including the Vibrant). I may just sell the Fascinate batteries on eBay.
I presume Verizon wanted a different battery to sell different accessories. I'm surprised Samsung went for it. They should have added a tab or something so the battery doesn't fit. Obviously even Samsung has trouble keeping things straight.
This is at least the second year Samsung gave away the batteries. They don't do it in the booth, but at a counter in area between the Central and North Halls, close to the Nathans/Pizza place.
Thanks everyone.. mystery solved.

Here is the thread that will get you to the battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910519
Glad I'd found this thread !!!
I purchased an extra battery and charger on eBay recently. Imagine MY surprise when my phone started balking when I put the new battery in. I purchased EB575152VA , but needed EB575152YZ.
Anyone here with a EB575152YZ spare battery system want to trade out for an even swap ? Mine has been taken out of the box, the battery put in the phone, then taken out with a quickness when my phone chastised me. If so, please contact me or I'm going to eBay it. I'm so SO thankful I found this forum.
There's really not a lot of helpful info out there. You guys just saved me several hundred dollars in a blown up phone and a voided warranty.
Cheers !!!

I bought this, it took about 2 weeks to get to me,(but for 12.99 for 2 batteries and a wall charger) as it was coming from hongkong, but got it yesterday, and its great, 2 extra batteries, and a wall charger so now i dont even need to charge my phone, i let the battery die so i can train them right, and just pop in a fully charged one when needed. the charger even has a usb hookup like the original wall charger that came with it, so really you could charge an extra battery, plus the one in the phone through the usb cable. The batteries are the same as the stock one that came with the phone. I wish i would have done this with my G1, instead of spending 90 bucks on 1 extra battery that didnt even have an external charger.

That would work, but I use the phone most of the day. It is not idle.
I take my phone off the charger at 5am @ 100%
Text most of the day at work with a 30 minute phone call at lunch...
Some moderate browsing and gaming...
I get home around 530pm, and "usually" have around 40%...

They are Samsung batteries, they look exactly like the one that came with my phone( down to the details written on the battery, only different thing is the date which was from 6/10 where the one with my phone was 7/10 and the s/n number), so I would say yes it is the same quality.

I got the same type of deal on ebay, 2 batteries & the charger (did the same thing with my MT3G as well), it's always nice having extra batteries, and I can use the charger when I'm traveling (it will also charge up my PSP). Now just need to get a mini to micro USB adapter and I have one less cable to carry around for charging - although I recently got an external drive for data storage, so I guess I will need a second cable if I want to tether my phone and use the external drive.
The batteries are not as good as stock and one seems to hold a charge better than the other (have to mark them so I remember which is which - these are generic one without the Samsung label), but as I train them via charge, use until dead, swap, charge, this should at least max them out a bit. The ones I had for my MT3G actually outperformed the original battery that came with so was hoping for the same. But considering how cheap these are, I could even pick up a couple more.

Those batteries from Hong Kong are not an original Samsung battery, they are just compatibles.
The lasting power of a li-on battery depends not just on the mAh, also the circuit inside the battery counts much of it.
The circuit takes care of the special sleep modes and energy saving features of a battery.
Samsung has its own energy saving codes that can not be put into a common compatible batteries.
This is why an original one is much more expensive than a compatible ones.
Extended battery for the vibrant, lasts twice as long and great door
Check this out: Moretalktime's feedback is 100% and the door is soft rubberized--better than stock IMO. It cradles well in your hand in a very comfortable position and lasts over twice as long.

Re: Batteries not lasting all day
I'd like to throw in an observation on this thread. My battery life is quite good on my Vibrant. Lasts all day easily but there are a couple of things to take notice of. First, I do not use any task killers or such, but I do check if there are any running programs with the built in task manager and stop them once I'm through with them. I've found that Voice Search and Web Access continue to run even after I've closed or backed out of them. Thus the need for use of task manager. But here's what I really found out. I've always charged my phone using the wall adapter with USB cable plugged into it. Never had a problem with battery life. Then for some reason, I decided to start using the USB cable attached to my computer. It would charge as normal and each morning it showed 100% charged. But after about 1 week of using the USB cable from the PC to charge the phone, I started having the horrible battery issues that I've read about. Extremely fast discharge. Leave at 8am and have like 50% use at noon. Crazy. So I started using the wall charger again and the phone has returned to its original state, easily lasting all day. Just a heads up for some of you guys having battery problems. No idea why this has happened but I've confirmed it. Maybe the Power Management thing on the USB ports on the PC?
I just saw this thread after a search on Google. I already posted elsewhere, but this looks like it might be the battery some of you are looking for.

Hello all,
I just moved and lost my extra Sammy battery external charger....UGH. I've LOVED never having to charge my phone itself.
Just curious if anyone has tried any of the aftermarket options on ebay or elsewhere and can vouch for them. I know they may not perform quite as well as the OEM pair, but if they are comparable, it would be pretty good bang for the buck.
Thanks for any input!
From what I've seen the Yoobao 2800mAh is a good battery. It looks like the 3500mAh's aren't really 3500 and just have a different sticker. From everything I've read it looks like the Yoobao is what to go with. I'm actually going to order one today.
As far as a charger, I have the oem charger, and I have the Sprint charger (traveler charger plus) that charges it's battery pack from the wall, and then you can unplug it from the wall and carry it with you. I can generally get about half of a full charge (while using it) without it being plugged into the wall.
[edit] I think this should be in Q and A?
I'd go with Amazon.
I've tried the very cheap knockoffs (batteries and chargers). They do not perform as well as as the Samsung-branded OEM combo, which is available on Amazon in Samsung retail packaging for about $25 plus shipping.
I got a review in the Accessory section on one. Been working awesome for me for months now.

Just a couple of questions about the 3500 mAh battery and the charge dock:
1. Can the 3500 mAh battery charge in that external charger (ie outside of the phone in the charger bay).
2. If you use the dock with the phone upright, does it block speaker sound coming out of it from the back, since plan on using it next to my bed and my phone is also my alarm clock.
Thanks!

Confirmed by multiple sources to fit in Samsung Galaxy S I variants such as the Vibrant, Fascinate, etc. Since it's a Samsung made (read: Not Chinese hackery) battery, the 1800mah is all but guaranteed.
Have since received the batteries in the mail. They fit perfectly in both my Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Fascinate. Initial battery life tests seem to confirm the 1800mah listed on the side.
I see no point in that as you can now get a 2000mah battery from Samsung. It makes your phone a bit fatter and comes with a different cover but it adds some decent juice.

Wow, where to start. First, that 200mah requires a fatter phone. The whole selling point of the 1800mah battery is that it doesn't require a new battery cover, and thus does not require a new case. For the many of us with Otterbox cases and the like, this is very good news. I highly doubt I'd give up my Otterbox for a mere 200 mah. If I were going for an extended battery that required a new battery cover, I wouldn't aim so low as 2000mah, but would opt for the Momax 2700mah battery with the kickstand battery cover, or the crazier 3600mah upgrades on the market.
Secondly, this battery is SGS1 compatibility. The Vibrant, Mezmerize, Fascinate, Epic, Galaxy S 4g, i9000, etc all have 1500 mah batteries. To get a legitimate 1800mah battery that doesn't require an extended battery door is a real boon.
Does anyone know if Samsung do any extended/ higher mah battery for the nexus s?
Received the batteries in the mail today. They fit perfectly into both my Vibrant and Fascinate, and initial testing corroborates the mah rating of 1800.
Can now confirm that the battery is not only legitimate, but holds up to the 1800 mah claims. Quite the steal for $20!
Would this work on a Samsung Focus?
If the Focus is a Galaxy S variant, then yes. Otherwise, no.
How much more does the battery last?
So far, for me, it's lasted about as long as it's rated, meaning about 20% longer than stock.
yo the sprint galaxy s2 epich 4g touch ... ugh so long to say that... umm , it comes with a the 1800 already

From his post, it says "HTC Incredible - JB Inc RC3 ". I'd guess that means Albinoman's.
What's the point of the "great battery life" if you basically don't use your phone at all to achieve it? Battery life should be determined by a week of normal use. If that's how you use it, then congrats, but for the rest of us, that's why they made watches.

Just wanted to say that I run with 3500 mah batteries. Recently purchased a ravpower universal adapter for 9.99 on new egg. It charges my batteries fuller than a charger I bought on ebay for 20$ which was an evo charger with an adapter. The old charger would stop charging when battery was at about 75-95%. So I would get about 20-24 hours of battery life with medium to moderate usage.
With same batteries charged with new charger, i get the full 100% and up to 25-30 hours of life. So a good purchase if you want to extend the life of your Dinc. Its a cool charger too because since it's adjustable, and it will fit nearly any flat battery in the future plus it charges faster at 600 mah.
Btw, the thing I think causes the biggest drain on battery is the 3g radio. When turned off, and you could easily get 4-5 days of standby.

Edit: Holy crap, forget mine, I want the one in the preceding post - cheaper AND it'll charge the spare battery at the same time!? I am missing out!

Does this charge a spare battery? Why is it so much more expensive than the one I bought for less features? It IS slicker looking but you can't charge a spare battery.
Nope, it'll take my phone with its case on, but it does not charge a spare battery. It was a gift, so I'm not complaining, but yours looks much better to me.
