Can I download the AOSP calendar.apk and contact.apk and replace the mt4g HTC versions? I am only temp rooted with Visionary+.
No, with temp root it won't stick. If you were perma rooted then you're going to have issues with other apps working, Sense is very interwoven and dependent on the individual apps to make the whole experience.

This may be a stupid question....especially since I have rooted and changed ROMs on my other Android phones.
The only reason I typically root my phones is to get the newer versions or features of new OS releases when the phone in question appears to not be getting any new updates. I rooted and installed many different ROMs on my G1 and MyTouch Slide. I'm currently running CM6.1 on my Slide, and love it.
To me I don't want to root and run a custom ROM on my G2 simply because it's already fast, and has pretty much all the features I want. BUT, I would like to be able to have root access, delete stock apps, and have the extra control that root gives me. But I don't want to deal with the (small) bugs associated with custom ROMs. I have tried VISIONary, but even with terminal emulator and titanium backup, I can't delete the stock apps permanently.
Is there a full on STOCK rom, with NO bugs or issues that can be installed after root? I don't want to change the OS, I just want root access so I can permanently remove stock apps and have general root control.
Heres a LINK to a stock rooted OTA ROM. Description of the ROM: "This is the stock rom post OTA. added root (su and superuser.apk) as well as modified ramdisk (ro.secure=0) and busybox. Also zip aligned apps to optimize ram usage. there is odex (stock) and de-odex versions".

Question regarding that. I noticed you said it adds root (su and superuser.apk), Im already rooted so wouldnt that be on any ROM I install (including stock). Also I noticed in the link it links to Pershoots OC kernel, I thought you couldnt use that on a stock ROM.

Just cause your s-off doesn't mean the rom you are running will have su access, superuser and su are usually cooked into all custom roms but it doesn't mean it always has to have it, the description on this rom is its stock ota with superuser app and su built into it.
The link takes you to a stock rooted rom with a stock kernel thread and has the option to use an oc/uv kernel.

Depending on how you perm-rooted, your stock ROM that you first rooted on will probably have superuser.apk and full su access. If you're happy with how all your root-specific apps run then you're fine. You don't necessarily have to flash a custom ROM to get full functionality. I was in the same boat as you and ran stock rooted 2.2 on my Evo for a long time. All i wanted root for was wireless tether and titanium backup, didnt care about everything else.
Basically what I'm saying is that if you're perm-rooted and have superuser permissions and you uninstall your stock apps and you're happy, theres no need to flash a new ROM.
You need s-off to properly uninstall the bloatware applications if i recall correctly

Just got a Bravo a couple of days ago. I have already rooted, and deleted some of the obvious bloatware apks. But I don't want to go any further until I know that other not so obvious apks are ok to delete. And I am not interested in flash custom ROMS. Thanks!
As far as I know the only AT&T app you need is the AT&T music player if you wish to listen to the fm radio. Otherwise all the att app's + vlingo can be deleted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972459 This is a pretty comprehensive list developed for the Atrix (another Motorola/AT&T phone). I haven't had any issues freezing all of the mentioned apps. (You might want to try freezing them before you delete, just in case)
Hello,
It's been a while since I have played around with rooting and tinkering with my Evo 4G.
Right now I have it rooted and a few apps like ROM Manager, SuperUser and such installed. I'm currently running 2.2.
I would like to get updated with the newest rooted stock OS. I need this phone to work and would also like to maintain stability and improve battery life.
I found the details at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790427 as how to 'After rooting, how do I install a ROM?'
Which ROM is recommended to keep as close to as stock while still giving me root capabilities and apps?
Is there a version I should avoid do to age / hardware of phone?
I was thinking of this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319881
or from this list:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
#8, the OTA version.
Any suggestions or comments on either, others, my process?
Thanks.
Does it have to be a stock rom? If not, i suggest MikG or evolved recharged.
They're both pretty good roms

Here's a list of some ROMs you could try out. Look under Custom ROMs.
Just make sure you have a backup of your current ROM just in case.
thanks for the replys.
Just so i have this right..
I am going to choose OTA-#8 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
This looks like the newest stock rooted ROM, correct?
I have everything backed up and see the docs, but have one last quesiton:
How do I restore all my contacts, apps, configs, etc once I do this?
I rooted and did this when I got the phone and built on top of it, but from the description of the backups, it's backing up the entire config of the phone (like an image). I would imagine that I dont try to reinstall all my apps from that one, right?
Thanks.

According to that URL, OTA Update #11 is the newest OTA available. Before you switch back to stock though you should check out these ROMs by -TeamBlaze-.

Just remember, if you are running a custom rom, it's probably de-odexed, so the chances of running an odexed apk, may not be good.
And, if it's a stock rom, and you pull an earlier version apk, make sure you pull the matching odex file also.
Keep in mind, different versions of the stock apks may be a little different and not get along well with the others. Especially if they are dependent on each other.

I'm running 4.4.2 on a rooted Note 3.
I was wondering... if I downloaded stock android apps like... dialer/contacts, camera, gallery, clock... can I just freeze the stock Samsung ones via Titanium Backup and use the stock android ones as default? Would that work normally? Anything I should take into consideration?
Thanks =)

I don't think simple like that .
especially if you take it from other device. And even same device, if you take it from AOSP, you can't just simply uninstall old one, and replace new one. you will have FC.
Because samsung apps if a modded to work on TW framework, and the AOSP apps some need modification first to be able to work on TW framework.
I could be wrong
Cheers.
