Didn't you hear? Just adding "_____ ENGINE" to any phone will guarantee the clueless consumers will buy in masses!!
Unfortunately, it comes with a single-core CPU.

And they took the sensor from the Cybershot. Won't be out until April though.

It was about time for a 1GHz
Anyway I still faithful to HTC

Sony will be a lot left behind with those specs to be able to compete this year with other phone manufactures because other manufactures will offer dual-cored procs.
1GHz Procs? 512MB?...hey...my Desire already has those specs (with older hardwares of course).
The word "BRAVIA-ENGINE" alone will not be able to withstand the dual-core waves.
My next smartphone will have:
Dual-cored proc
independent graphic proc
1GB RAM
at least 1.5GB internal memory
SD Card slot
HDMI output
USB connnection
Most important: latest available Android version
(No tablets for me)
Currently, I am drooling over the Motorola ATRIX...but wanna wait untill all manufactures has been distributing those dual-cores smarties.

You might have to wait a while on that. It will be a LONG time before AMD or NVIDIA release graphics card for mobile phones. Everything else seems fairly reasonable though.
The Xperia Arc does use the newer snapdragon chips so that is a plus in my book.

This...If there is anything I learned from owning an X10 is that updates are slow and Sony Ericsson locks down the phone tighter than a nun's...Well you know where I'm going with that.

...
If the arc had a dual core cpu the combination of the cpu and the screen would make the battary discharge in half an hour.
Always judge a product from the whole and the final output rather than an individual characteristic. So it has been fully optimize the software, then a single core processor can be much better than a dual core on a cell that has to lift a buggy operating system. See the benchmark http://www.gsmarena.com/showpic.php...on-xperia-arc/preview/sshots/gsmarena_025.jpg and you will understand.
So the overall performance is what counts. If the mobile is scrolling comfortable as we care what processor time? Just to say 'look I have dual core cpu on my mobile'?.The psp has a single core 333mz and it can ran better than any smart phone.the OS is the key!
And because we get around, do not say that anything is 1Ghz!Did we say things that we have the best (on paper) and lose the substance. As a tear drops because Arc has 8Mpx camera and not 12. If you tell them that it is better than the previous 8Mp and the 12mp they would not understand.Rather prefer to buy a desktop pc if i look for the 1gb ram the 2 core cpu...And all because we have put in one meaningless match, the first megapixel now with ghz processor and mb of Ram.
FRIENDLY

i forgot to say tha 2.4 ginger http://static.techspot.com/fileshost/newspics3/2010/android_24_leaked.jpg
and 3.0 honeycomp would be official http://blog.dialaphone.co.uk/2011/0...-honeycomb-doesnt-need-a-dual-core-processor/
the other phones i think that the would released with the froyo 2.2 not 2.3 ginger. so if you buy the dual core cpu phones you have to wait 2-3 months for the ginger if u preffer the arc you would update in 2-3 months to 2.4 or 3.0...your choice....

That's sounds all nice and good but you're forgetting an important factor. When was the last time Sony Ericsson put out a smart phone on time?
I think you're going to be waiting a lot longer than you think.

as u say it will take some time..thanks for that!
we must wait!also this is not the final edition of the phone...

What does that benchmark proves? That a 2nd generation CPU is better than a 1st generation? Have you even seen the benchmark for dual core (think +2200 and up)? Did you know dual cores have just as good of a power management as a single core? Did you know the matrix 4G has a 1930mah battery and can last 10hrs of talk time even on 3G while still having a 10mm waistline?
I'm not gonna lie, the design of the Arc is downright amazing (undoubtedly best one out of CES), but other than that, I'd be stupid of purchasing one when there are much better phones out there.

Like i sayed before if the mobile is scrolling comfortable as we care what processor time? Just to say 'look I have dual core cpu on my mobile'?.The psp has a single core 333mz and it can ran better than any smart phone. The design plus the camera plus the screen plus the gin 2.3 and the confirmiration of the 3.0 honeycomp made me take the decision to buy that.the MES is in february so we must wait to take the final decision. Although the Htc Thunderbolt is a very good choce(hightech phone)! The cpu MSM8960 1.2 dual and adreno 3000 would be awesome!but i don't like design. It's like all the htc devices....

This is SE we're talking about, so it's laughable that you're even talking about OS update. Remember what happen in the past? I'm sure people who have X1, X2 and X10 do...
Yes, you should care about processing time. The less time it takes to carry out an instruction/start/run a progam, the least amount of drainage on the battery (equating to less heat generated by the CPU). Scrolling would probably be 2x smoother on a dual core compare to the 2nd gen single core.
Here's an analogy, what's more tiring to your body? Flying in 1st class from the UK to Italy or driving from UK to Italy? Technology is no different. The less time you spend doing any task, the more time you have doing other stuff and the less exhaustive the phone is.

I think u are right!i have a x1 and i know how annoying is that the other phones have the 6.5 and me the 6.1 win mo.But the xda developers have done their trick so i am not afraid about the updates!!!!!!!

Xperia X10 is more future proof than galaxy s

From teardown of i9000, it has:
512MB SLC Nand, and (384MB LPDDR + 128 MB [2 piece 166Mhz Mobile DDR] ) OneNand, all packaged on a MPC with the PowerVr+Hummingbird core.
Then a 16GB piece MoviNand (samsung's version of MLC based eMMC), all manufactured by samsung.
If it's right, then all the galaxy s phones (i9000(m), vibrant, captivate.. etc) only have 512MB of true fast Nand rom, could be the cause of the lag issues.
Although I don't have a teardown of the Fascinate and Epic, I'd assume they are the same as the GSM versions, with the exception of a 1GB/2GB MLC nand replacing the 16GB MoviNand (ie. they have only 512MB SLC Nand too).
Samsung is very smart when it comes to lowering the BoM and ip costs in building this high spec android phone.
By comparison, SE Xperia X10 has a 2x512MB (1GB total) fast Micron SLC Nand rom, 3 piece 384MB of LPDDR (166Mhz, x16*2+x32) higher bandwidth than i9000's. Nand + Ram made by Micron (which makes superior ic's compared to samsung).
HD2, and Sprint Evo 4G all have the same MCP made by Hynix; Google Nexus One and Htc desire share a MCP made by samsung, even though they have different specified Ram amounts (512MB vs 576MB), could be caused by the different allocations of available OneNand?
It is very likely, that the minimum requirement for Android 3.o is not 512MB ram, but 512MB rom, (Android, like Maemo, is very good at memory management). I'd say that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is actually more "future proof" than the i9000, and the HTC phones released so far.
hopefully what you analyzed is true! I really don't want 2.1 to be the last software update on my X10.

No, the next version of android hasn't been officially announced, but I think you'll find that future android devices running high end branch of android from SE (and other manufactures) will at least 1GB of nand rom.

can anyone explain me this part .....
For example, an OMAP4440 based 864*480 (Sharp panel for SE, a first i think ) device that's in the works ...
This may be pulling the strings bit too far but are U max from esato?
If yes, is there any truth in the psp phone rumor? Also, what are the next devices, the X10 successors lined up for in terms of Processor and GPU?
Also the galaxy S has a better CPU and GFX card, so the better RAm in the X10 wont do to make it more future proof.
Yes, SE will release Gingerbread for X10 in 2013 - after the machines take over.
More than any device specs holding back updates for existing phones is that SE & others don't want to give you a free update. Why would they want to provide you with a update to prolong the life of your phone, when they could sell you or your provider a new one for actual money . Future proof is a myth built in obsolescence is the reality.
Am I correct in assuming you are associated with Sony Ericcson somehow (SE-MC as your nick)? I only ask because it clearly creates a conflict of interest for you to decide between both devices fairly.
NAND imho is considered to be flash, not RAM. Samsung officially said that they had 512MB RAM. In the case this unit didn't have 512MB LPDDR, it would mean they lied during the announcement: http://www.samsung.com/ph/news/newsR...ype=globalnews , as the OneNAND/MoviNand site differentiates between flash and RAM too. I have emailed them though to ask specifically.
We never really had issues with Micron or Samsung RAM at the Apple reseller I worked at. Micron might possibly be better, but you probably wont notice any differences unless you start over-clocking.
You forget that the i9000 has a MUCH faster GPU (90million triangles vs the X10 one), 802.11n, BT3 and REAL multitouch. Also, if you are writing an article, shouldn't you perform your own teardown so you can be 100% sure of what you are writing about? Anyway, in almost any synthetic benchmark at the moment (not that they matter), Galaxy S is ahead. The X10 however is probably ahead in photo quality.
Both phones are suited towards different audiences really, and both have their own benefits. I'd expect the Galaxy S to have a longer useful timespan though.. Sony Ericsson 9 months after announcement have announced plenty of new phones, but haven't even updated Android to 2.0. They clearly have the resources, but their priorities seem to be capturing more of the market, rather than helping their existing customers. If anything, SE's attitude suggests A3 wont be ported to the X10. The X10 likely never attracted the kind of people who will port Android 3 by themselves either (1.6 is too old for developers). Sony Ericsson also have a strong history of using software to upsell customers.
Anyway, it depends on what your requirements are. Neither Sony Ericsson nor Samsung are known for great long term software support, ROM's for Froyo have already been leaked by Samsung for the Galaxy S, whereas, there is very little evidence that SE are actively working on upgrading theirs (seriously, by now they should have at least gotten 2.0).
Despite my uses for a camera Flash, I ended up settling on the Galaxy S though. It's up to people to make their own choice, but I personally believe that the SE is the better long term choice.

Not very likely is it, with psp neXt gen coming . The 2 divisions operates quite independently. However, an android device (running a 'high end' branch of android ) is currently in internal testing, based on TI's OMAP4400 series, and paired with LPDDR2 I believe, since the performance put that of samsung's i9000 to shame. I don't know if this is the *supposed* psp phone, but it does have an unusually wide aspect ratio screen (864*480) which could suggest a gaming 'portal' is coming to select future se devices.

Nand is not 'considered' to be flash, it is flash. OneNand is just a mcp with 'flash' + ram. The problem is, on samsung mobile's own devices, i9000 in particular, are some custom mcp's that are not publicly available. There are some mcp's used here which have comparable public offerings (from samsung semi), the application processor for example; but even they are slightly different. Making analysis a bit painful, some purely based on experience.
I have a X10a but let's face it.
Galaxy S is the better smartphone now and will be in Q4 too.
While X10 will run 2.1, Galaxy S will run 2.2 which will give better performance.
Who cares about long distant future?
Next year, this time, probably only 20% of the current X10 'geek' owners will still have the X10.
The rest will move to better smartphones 1.2Ghz, 1.5Ghz, dual core, etc.
The usual, non geek, owner won't care anyway if he has 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0, etc as hong as he can make calls, listen a few mp3s and take some nice snapshots.
Even the galaxy s has a life span so don't think that it will get 3.0 since Samsung support stinks
Sent from my X10a
If Android 3.0 will be "standalone" (only rumour yet) you dont need SE to install it in the X10.
Yes, the i9000 have better specifications, better graphic card, but and the construction? next year, half will had problems... they are having problems now.
I have changed HTC to SE because of all the problems i had with HTC, GPS no working, vibrate not working, etc etc... i'm tired of these problems.

Bah... you should consider stopping repeating other people's **** when it makes no sense.
According to those numbers, that phone is like 2 times faster than a GameCube
Now if you look at GLBenchmark, it's not quite 90 millions per second, but more like 7 millions textured triangles per second while the snapdragon seems to cap at around 2 millions in all tests, and the older power VR in the droid does 2.5 millions.
The Galaxy S is thus quite faster in those benchmark.
Now that's a benchmark, in actual games/apps, you don't care about that, what you want is your framerate to stay higher than 30fps, and in this case what you get is more like 30.000 textured and lit tris per frame max on a snapdragon (X10), 37.000 tris on a PowerVR (moto droid) and around 65.000 on a Galaxy S.
So it's certainly faster like a bit more than 2 times faster than the older snapdragon, but those "90 millions triangles per second" are totally made up.

Desire HD2 specs leaked

If this is true it's a bit of a kick in the balls to you HD owners...
http://pocketnow.com/android/galaxy-s-2-desire-hd2-desire-2-wildfire-2-full-specs-leaked
8GB internal memory
960x540 resolution
1.2GHz dual core 8260 Snapdragon processor
Mobile technology is always moving forward at an incredible rate. That's why you should always opt for 12 month contacts or buy SIM free keep for a year, sell & upgrade.
These specs look pretty good for the DHD2.
I agree, but if you've just upgraded in the last few weeks this is going to hurt...
Certainly, if you've just ordered or bought the DHD then knowing there will be a better one out will hurt.
I'd be interested to know when it potentially would be released.

why would it hurt? htc release a new model every few months, if you have been buying HTC's as long as me you should be used to it, i bought my HTC nike and then the diamond came out, i bought the diamond and they release the HD, blah blah blah, if you buy the Desire HD2 no doubt within a few months a higher spec model will be released
Honestly, the specs aren't that much different!
1080p video recording? meh - and certainly if the 720p recording on the DHD is anything to go by, won't be anything special.
1.2GHz dual core? It's ok I suppose - but DHD does me proud at the moment and as long as I get no lag (and I don't really) then I'm fine with that.
Only real nice thing is the screen - but as we all know - screen specs are highly subject to change in the world of HTC!

3.3" screen? Must be a typo.
Still using the Adreno 205... Should have waited for the 220. DHD is supposed to be a flagship line.
Pretty poor, IMHO.
Wow, a lot of people here with a lot of money it would seem!!
If I'd just got the DHD I'd be pissed that this has been announced - fair enough a year after release but less than 6 months?
Well, those are not oficiall ofc and i don`t think sgs will use snapdragoon chips ;o but that qhd screen looks nice
Ahhhhhhhh I hate rumors...& here's why:
"As suspected, the Galaxy S 2 is said to run on a dual-core Qualcomm 8260 1.2GHz processor (not an Orion or Hummingbird, apparently)". Why would Samsung use Qualcomm? Look at the table here to better understand:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_sales_leaders_by_year
The RAM is said to be 512...down from 768 Mb. Does that make sense?
Anyway, lets wait & see. MWC is a few days away.
RAWWWWR THE SCREEN IS NOT HD! HD is 1280 x 720 (720p) or 1920 x 1080 (1080p).
960 x 540 is 16:9 widescreen. but not HD. I wish, when specifically talking about screen resolutions, that companies wouldn't just drop "HD" on everything to drum up hype.
As with all technology, what you buy today, will be out of date by the time you have got it home and turned it on. This will always be the case. if you were waiting for the latest bit of kit, you would never buy anything.
I got the Desire, and have upgraded to the DHD. I dont see myself changing phones again for at least 12 months. Unless something really cool comes out
something wrong with this leak
galaxy S2 will never have a snapdrogon, samsung makes their own SOC
as for the dual snapdragon on the htc handsets, well it doesnt make sense either to have the old desire HD adreno 205
dual core snapdragons, gen 3, are coming with adreno 220, its in one chipset
equaly no way desire 2 is coming with the same old CPU/GPU
this is crazy
To be honest if that's the new desire, I'm not impressed. I think this is positive for us dhd users because with the release of this phone they should also release the gingerbread sense to dhd. If they don't it will till be applied by the great minds here at xda.

samsung dont make there own, just like every arm cortex cpu, its made for them by texas instruments, and it's quite conceivable that they would try qualcomm cpu's. as far as computing goes as a whole, its rare for a manufacturer to stick with one h/w company, all the big laptop and pc companies use both intel and AMD cpu's. so its only natural that smartphone manufacturers are sooner or later going to try the same thing

There is no way you can have MSM8260 and Adreno 205. Ask Qualcomm or just visit their site and read about the 3rd gen chips (something the "professional" mobile reviewers obviously find very difficult - they seem to write more articles than they read ). I personaly don't trust anything that comes from these sites, because their "news" are just rummors and their reviews are always biased on the brand that gives them pre-launch phones (ever wondered why GSMArena never gets HTC units before the launch and always find their phones inferior to Samsung?)

The Samsung/Qualcomm issue does point to this article being nothing more than a rumor, but still, if only a few of the specs can be realised I actually cannot wait for the Desire HD2!!! I had been interested in maybe moving to a Samsung device if these 4.3inch Super Amoled's hit the market, but the superior resolution would have me all over the HTC.

That would be very nice. A little sad I couldn't upgrade to the GS II but I think I can shell out for a new phone next year and a quad core Galaxy S would fit the bill.

While I do agree that it is somewhat pointless at this point in time, it's a common misconception that newer CPUs = more power usage. By that logic, a Core i7 will consume more power than the Core 2 Quad, which it does not.
CPU manufacturers control power consumption in a number of ways. The most common is a die shrink, manufacturing the CPU at a smaller level. The Exynos is a 45nm chip, and the next generation is supposed to be 28nm. Thus, we can expect power consumption to stay the same, or even decrease.
The other way is through the use of core gating. The OS simply shuts off the cores that are not in use, and wakes them up when they are needed.
Hopefully this helps to clear up some of the misunderstandings regarding CPUs and power consumption.
quad core has already been stated to be more battery friendly and the tegra3 chips is very clever only using more cores when needed and even having a stealth 5th core for mega low idle speeds
obvously the exynos is not a tegra3 but i am sure samsung will do some clever stuff too
quad core will be awesome , i am happy with my dual core sgs2 so wont upgrade for a while ive also bought extras etc so its not worth upgrading for me , however that doesnt stop quad core from being gooooooooooood
have you seen the gfx power it will bring , the extra camera capabillities it allows the manufactuers to use , the speed that the browser will work , how smooth the ui transisitions and scrolling will be even when multi tasking , it also brings support for up to 2gb of ram which alone is great stuff everyone knows the only thing better then ram is more ram
i think if we want our mobile to be proper mobile computers connected to bluetooth keyboards and usb hardrives then linked up to hdmi or dlna while doing back ground tasks , followed by some high end intensive 3d gaming with a bluetooth pad over hdmi while still doing background tasks , encoding high quality media on the fly and editing it without having to wait an age for it to finalise then qua core is a great thing as is the way that tech is moving so fast
the only problem i can see is fragmentation as things move so quick
its got to make it hard for devs etc which in the long turn could damage the platform a bit , however i am sure it will come to the point it will smooth out and tech wont accelerate so fast , maybe? lol
nvidia have a road map and it shows that they will be releasing a new cpu/gpu combo each year for at least the next 3-4 years before they think we will be at mobile maximum potenial , so get ready for this tradition to carry on for a while yet
Sadly I think this fragmentation might become a very big problem in the future, and is one area where Apple is unfortunately right.
Look at PC Gaming. A lot of people buy PCs not knowing exactly what the PC they bought at capable of. When it fails to run Battlefield 3 at an acceptable framerate they are not going to be happy.
For us techies, it's easy to know that you need at least a GTX 560Ti or something, but for Joe Sixpack out there they obviously don't know these things.
I think perhaps Google should enforce some sort of system requirement rating system. Give it a number scale to make it simple. So maybe the SGS2 scores 9/10, and Contract Killer requires a phone with at least 7 to run smoothly. So Joe Sixpack who bought a Galaxy 3 GT-i5800 that scores a 3 doesn't get all pissed off.
Hope I'm making sense here.
Nah fragmentation will be fine. Pc is still the choice for gamers over Apple mac, not including consoles. Transfer that to mobile phones, and as long as the android mobiles become popular enough, games will be great for them. Everyone will just know they have to have a good mobile just like their pc.
I read somewhere it would feature the AMD's new 8 core bulldozer CPU with nVidias GTX 590 in SLI.

i dont really understand people complaining about fragmentation. Android isnt a phone, it isnt a manufacturer, its an operating system. Do people complain the laptop market is fragmented because some computers are on xp, vista or 7? Some are on faster processors than others? Did people ever complain that symbian updated on some phones but not others?
I just dont get it, Id rather new phones/tech come out than only one release every 18 months.
Who cares? My upgrade isn't due until 2013... When I will get the top of the line handset again. I'm sure that model will be usurped within 4-6 months too.
Maybe we should all keep our phones in their original packaging like toy collectors, so they can't contribute to the disastrous fragmentation issue.
The actual effect of this media-inspired phenomena on consumers is negligible.
LOL sorry - had to point out the galaxy s III still has an 8mp camera. =p
Almost sounded like the Samsung Nexus with the 5mp camera... ahaha.
Just kidding. The phone should be solid. =)
Samsung g3 will be have 1.8 ghz processor not 1.5 ghz and will be dual core

Android phones vs iPhone is basically like PC vs console since PC has a billion different hardware and software configs where as a console as 1 (There are a few iPhones but you generally only support the latest 2-3 versions).

Your next phone (after DHD)

So I’ve had my DHD for a about a year or more now
I still love it even with its limited battery I also have just recently started trying out root access and used my first rom
But I still find myself wanting a new phone & hardware; does anybody else find the recent phones from HTC all much the same with nothing that stands out?
I like HTC Sense its one the of main reasons I got my DHD but I’m considering jumping ship and going for a Galixy Nexus.
I hope HTC come up with something good when they release the first HTC Android 4 phone.
I thought it might be interesting to hear what other members and owners of a DHD are hoping for in your next phone from HTC.
Personally I’m over the CPU/GPU marketing race I find my DHD has more than enough power for the way I use it its IMO very similar to the Megapixel marketing of digital cameras.
I’d personally like to see a shift or segment of the market move into phones that last all day, perhaps with some new battery technologies
What are your thoughts / ideas and & wishes for your next HTC phone after the DHD
Something with a tegra 3 chip. Plus it should sort out the battery life as well. Some of the leaked shots of htcs quad core phones look great so I'll probably stick with them because I've not been let down by my dhd plus the build quality is miles ahead of Samsung and lg. Only Motorola have such durable builds out of the other OEMs but I've always found their software let them down, maybe that'll change with the Google takeover. Anyway this is all talk for another day as my dhd feels as though I'll get at least another 8/9 months out of it without problems
in the next couple weeks im switching to an SII then that should hold me to July when i'll buy whatever the best phone out is or maybe the galaxy nexus
tbh tegra 3 is not a real quad core but a dual core with 4 threads meaning it's faster than tegra 2 but in theory by 25%. You can say that 4 threaded dual core can be equal to a 3 core CPU.
So i believe i'll get something with real quad core processor until then i'll wait for 1-2 years...DHD would work just fine in the meantime.

Yep, exactly my position! Not sure anything is floating my boat at the moment though, would like better battery life but nothing else is screaming out at me. Wont be going with the Samsungs whilst they have the flimsy feel to them, I just like the heft of my DHD in my hand too much

Maybe I've picked it up wrong but that's not what I've read about the tegra 3. From all the PR details the tegra 3 is a genuine quad core with a fifth slave core running at 600 MHz which is the main utility driver with the other four cores kicking in on demand. From all the write ups I've seen this equates to a genuine saving of power on day to day tasks but a real world benefit of double the power of the equivelant dual core. I'll see if I can find some links later as I'm on my phone at the mo and I can't be arsed copy pasting
Man this seems strange....I got my Desire here with 1ghz processor.
My very first PC was the fastest out at the time, with a 120mhz processor and 8mb of RAM & a 1gb hard drive....lol.
But now yuh got dual core 1.5ghz phones and quad cores coming along!!
Wonder what will be about in 50 years time?
Prob HTC Sonic Boom, 55 core super charger x 4 turbo 1,000,000mhz processor
CRAZY how technology seems to whizz along!!!!!

Won't happen, we'll hit the singularity before then. They reckon it'll be in the next twenty years
I've ordered Samsung GSII, should be delivered by the end of next week.
Still not sure whether I'm going to like it or not. I'm used to sense ROMS.
Let's see
Nokia Lumia 800 or the Galaxy Nexus

You'll love it, its a beautiful phone.
I love sense, I've tried all the roms but always end up back with sense. The only one that's broken that cycle is the beta ics rom going round but none of the others come close in my mind. Even cm7 with go launcher(the best way to go to my mind) is incomparible to HTC sense. Sense is beautiful, no other weather widget is even within touching distance if sense 3 or 3.5 and many other sense features are the same. The only problem for some is the bulk that sense takes, but sense comes fully loaded. You don't need a launcher, don't need a weather app, don't need a anything, its all just there. Problem is android users feel the need to be different more often than not, hence the flashing addiction( trust me I'm one of em) but for the uninitiated or those who just want it to work out of the box sense is the way to go.
But back to the topic, the sgs2 is awesome. My brother. In law has one and I must say its a staggering achievement. Powerful, smooth and a great clean crisp display, plus its in line for one of the first ics OEM updates make it the phone to have to my mind, even in front of the galaxy nexus mainly due to the camera.
You really will not be disappointed

Problem with this us HTC aren't planning on release of its new range until march/April do anything before then is pure speculation but that was one of the phones I was alluding to, the other being the htc edge
Yesterday I ordered my Motorola RAZR
I hesitated between Motorola and Google Nexus Prime, but Prime is no Mass Storage ... and only 5MP camera and No Gorilla Glass
Prime is on ISC but Motorola on Gingerbread but he will have an ICS update in January

haha now i can't find the link where i read it. I think you're right because i just read about tegra 3 and it does say that it has got 4 cortex A9 cores and a fifth core running at 600mhz...
i think i got my pc mixed up with tegra 3; recently got a mobility i5 (dual core with 4 threads) lol
Cheers!
Ideally something with a native fedora, realistically probably something i can dual boot
possibly stick to htc ...unless they take a turn for the worse
if android jellybean comes in august or so, by november (when my contract ends) i'll have a htc jellybean phone
I'll be keeping my DHD for another year, by that time AFAIK there should be quad core phones from all brands, I've heard the Samsung Galaxy SIII will be awesome, but a part of me never wants to leave HTC.
Does anyone have other suggestions for late 2012 (let's just assume the world won't end).
well.., for me i can't live without HTC sense, and i love HTC company very much iam using there phones from along time HTC always different and with HTC sense you are unique.
iam thinking to buy HTC EVO 3D, i like this phone but also i love my phone too

will Samsung galaxy S IV have 8 core phones next year?

so the pattern is doubling the number of cores every generations then the next generation should have 8core processor?
I highly doubt it...
Probably a hex core.
Swyped from my OG Droid running CM7
I just noticed this in Tapatalk new posts, and just HAD to answer.
What's the point?
Name one situation where you would even need that.
Samsung needs to work on improving other practical features.
They've always upgraded what makes people fall for their phones, but never anything actually useful.
Years ago, their phone cameras went up in megapixels, but sucked no matter how much megapixels they had. Because megapixels aren't as important as is other more technical camera features. But megapixels are easiest to advertise so they went with those.
Personally I think a single core was enough. Now, phone companies need to work on RAM. They could stuff a lot more RAM in before they need to upgrade the processor.

Doubt it. these apps doesnt even require 8 cores. if any of these phone users require 8 core just to play games, either get a console or a decent pc.
8 core to play Angry birds or Shadowgun...pffftt...
will 8 core make me type faster?
Just Faster Speeds
tbh, I think faster speeds are really the only shift we'll be seeing at least next year for sure, but probably the year after that as well. Although with Windows 8 on ARM on the horizon, perhaps devs may find a way to do some serious mobile computing.
i don't think that 8 core will be useful for a device of 5" or 6"
They will stay at quad core but use the faster A15 architecture.
It's possible they might add some low powered A7 cores in a big.little configuration to improve battery life.
It will also have a next gen Mali gpu. Either Mali 604 or t658.
I'm also expecting it to have 2gb of ram.

I'm not entirely convinced multi-cored phones of any variety are even really getting fully utilized yet :/
I honestly believe cores are more of a marketing gimmick at the moment. I could be wrong, I'm no expert and I don't have the ability to see how well android handles the fine details.. But, there are a lot of factors most people don't even think about when buying phones.. Manufacturers know you're not going to ask "Well what about this 1.5ghz single core processor preforming 4 instructions per clock compared to this dual core phone performing 1.5 instructions per clock?"
Maybe when I go to upgrade my captivate I'll worry about cores more but, at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if dual cores were preforming better than quad cores since they have been out longer and had more time to get optimized in the code.
Dual core phones are already fast enough but seems like phones will start competing with pc in the next few years.
Imo RAM n battery life need to be increased greatly then manufactures should start thinking about future multiple core cpu.
Imagine a hex core cpu n the juice it needs
Yes, RAM!
ya, I definitely think RAM has a place because that's one of the best things about smartphones is the ability to multi-task! So if manufacturers can further cater to that, then I think more cores may follow, especially if we get more TRUE multi-tasking where you have live apps running. Because then, you can delegate individual cores to individual apps that are running. ATM I'm not entirely sure why I would need multiple live apps running simultaneously on a phone, however I think for business workers/students it could be helpful to be watching a live stream or doing a conference call while taking notes in an office suite app.

LOL coming from somebody using even lesser hardware than mine. Pull out the wallet and get sum 6 core goodness you cheapo. You even fail at trolling, come on you can do better than this.
On a more serious note, even Win7 has issues handling more than 6 cores efficiently, so why would anyone even bother having 8 effing cores on a phone. A full desktop experience would be useless anyway on something like a phone, only no life nerds should get all excited about something like that. I wonder why people can't just enjoy the current technology, looking so far just means that one hasn't really got **** to do all day IMHO.

I use even lesser lesser lesser, and lesser hardware
Instead of wasting money (which I don't have) on a newer phone, I work on optimizing Android to run at its best on my phone. Look at the Sony PSP. The XMB is amazing for a 333mhz processor. (And its actually clocked at 222mhz at the XMB). Now, were not talking about the browser here, that sucks. Sony spent time on the OS itself. They won't get thanked for it by the people who look at the features list on the box, but they engineered a wonderful OS for such a weak device.

Battery and ram def need to be upped. I also think phone manuf should provide a extended battery option with every high powered phone. I would also like to see a slow down on e amount of phones coming out. Perfect your flagship mid and lower powered phones then move on

Most apps and software don't even use two cores, let alone four, forbid more than that.

Hehe, I know what you mean...a year ago I had a Desire, and it was amazing to see how greatly the software could work after some tweaking, compared to stock. Sure it was kinda challenging, but it really felt like it was worth it: that phone was a living thing to me, I could hear it breathing. I swear I almost cried when I sold it, and I actually immediately regretted doing it, but it was too late. It was like leaving a dog on the side of the road or something like that, but at that time I was all excited about the fresh dual core thing, so I couldn't think rationally. There are days when I still feel very guilty about what I did. I'll never do that again. Guys seriously, if you have an old Android device with you don't sell it, you will regret it. Maybe not now, and not even in a few months, but you definitely will, trust me, especially if you've been living with it for a while (I had that phone for over a year).
Selling the GS2 didn't actually make me feel that way, probably because I've only kept it for a few months and didn't really tweak it that much...
8 cores is long way to go.
no way 8 core phone in next 3 years!
