Hi,
I am currently using cyanogen mod 6.1.1. I am very happy with the rom. However, the one thing I would like to alter is the camera app. Is there an app out there which is able to take 720p videos and high quality images as well?
Thank you
You could try "lgcamera". I've tested it briefly on a sense rom and it looks promising.

Sadly enough not higher than 3.2 megapixel
Just wondering, for froyo does the native camera app not support 720p video recording? If so, is this issue address in gingerbread?

That's curious. On my phone I can set 2592x1952 and my arithmetic makes it 5 megapixels ;-).

So I was just wondering if there are any fixes to the camera on Android to make then 5MP. I know that the XTarantulla build has a 5MP Camera but I can't say the same for darkstones or dan's. Or at least I didn't get it. Also, I was wondering if there was a fix to make it 8MP like how we could go into the registry and edit it so that it was superfine and stuff. Just wondering. Didn't see anything about it here on the forums so I thought i'd bring it up.

First off, they are working on it.
if you can successfully find and pull the camera drivers from the XT build and put it in another congrats.
as for the 8MP, that's just silly. the camera only is a 5MP, it can't be set to take pictures better than the hardware is capable of
cyanogen rom by shubi has 5mp camera. it has proper flash exposure (no full white pictures) and camcorder with flashlight.

Maybe not up to true 8MP, but improvements can be done in software.
My old HTC Wizard's camera sensor is 1.3MP, with a scaled res. option for a pseudo 2MP mode.
Yes, it is not true 2MP, but an extra option over the standard 1.3MP.
This was done 4 years ago, why not now with our HD2?

Is there any hope that we might ever get 720p video capture?
Theoretically both the 5MP sensor and Snapdragon chipset are adequate, so is there any hope for HD capture?

on robsbay.co.uk is stated that 720p video recording is already working, so that is great news

Woo, that's great!
I've been without an HD2 since mine broke a few months ago, been thinking of buying another HD2 to dual-boot WM and Android... if we can do HD capture I'm definitely buying one!

This is nonsense ...you can make it 20mp if you want in photoshop but you will lose quality. Ex there are 5mp cameras that are taking better pictures than a 8mpx cameras, the result is important!

The 8mp superfine hack in wm rom development has already improved picture quality, as side by side comparisons have shown, it's not true 8mp but the difference was noticable. The camera is capable of slightly more than its spec.

As I said, not true resolution, but an option available on a device 4 years old.
Something like that can be done for the HD2 also as an option, being aware
of some quality loss.

I thought all that did was reduce the compression, and the HD2 had huge issues with the camera in WinMo underperforming to start with, any of the improvements used in WinMo brought it to a standard your getting in Android already.

Here is the thread with the tweeks to camera and video, dont know if it was just reducing compression, but there were inprovements when I tested.

This is an easier cyanogen rom:

Any Apps with a button capture that we can use to take advantage of the 720p camera option?

From looking at photo's I've taken previously in WinMo (With those teaks) and Android, Android comes out the overall winner, those tweaks for WinMo simply give you what HTC should have given us out of the box in the first place.
Android does not seem to suffer at all in the camera department, at least not for me anyway.
Phil
Is it just me or does the camera on HTC Sense seem better than the stock Android one?
And also which one produces better quality images?
Are u running a sense rom or just comparing a sense phone to a stock?

I'm comparing Virtuous to CM 6.1.1 both stock cameras on each rom.
Image quality they should be about equal. I think I prefer the Sense camera though for the sounds alone. I HATE the focus and shutter sound on the stock cam. Wish I could find an APK for the DZ 1.72 cam that works on CM6.1.1

Ah, good to point out. Sometimes the picture previews in some programs aren't full resolution to cut down on processing times, delays, etc.
Is anyone able to confirm this? I also think they may look a little bit better in Sense but I must admit that when I viewed them using another image viewer afterwards they looked about the same. Didn't pay enough attention to make a qualified report though.
Best way to test would be to just put both the sense pic and the stock pic on your computer.

Get "alogcat" or other logging app and set it to run then reproduce your problem. It's also possible through adb.

Worked great on my stock D80110c rooted (4.2.2)
big apk but everything works ! even the SEEit! Gallery . While it has a lot of bells and whistles functions.
I use this also its been around for a while and works Great
Camera is Android 4.3 Camera App
What works and I've tested:
- take pictures on all res
- photo-sphere works
- panorama works (I've got though some garbled photos at the end)
- front camera works
- video recording works (both 720 and 1080)
- all settings work
If this helped
Click Thanks :good:

well yes and no yes only 8mp no 16:9 in 8mp
2mp 16:9
I know , I know . it is the issue is with the aspect ratio (the ratio between width and height. At full resolution, the aspect ratio of the camera is 4:3. the screen aspect ratio is 16:9. So to display a 4:3 image on the 16:9 screen you need to either leave bands at the top and bottom, or crop some of the picture off the sides. And of course WE want the highest MP . But we have a LG-G2 .
Now now on my LG-G2 with this Lenovo Super Camera is working. And I can set to resolution 4160x3120 13MP and I will test to see if it really is to resolution .. I really dont know
Tested : yes I was able to take pictures at the highest 4160x3120 and 4160x 2340W. every thing works except burst shots .. to fast for camera to focus or to save picture .
A better camera is actually serving my purposes pretty well and it has a lot of handy features. Thanks for the recommendation.

Go to the Google camera ports web page and try these 3:
Xcam 6.2 beta (which version depends on your Android version) - has all features basically
Urnyx 7.2 v1.4 - same as above however it is Google cam 7 (unfortunately cannot use xmls to configure settings)
Parrot 7 V12 - unlike the 2 above, does not allow for switching to ultrawide or telephoto, however is a great cam with xmls, lots of config options in settings and is also Google cam 7
the video is not at all stable compared to stock camera

What mod are you using? Gcam has lots of mods and tweaks, I'm using Gcam 7.2 by Parrot mod and don't face any issues.
Neither version of Gcam has video stabilization like stock cam...period!
I agree at some point but to compare stock Mi9t camera 1080p/30fps/h265 vs Gcam 7.2 1080p/30fps/h265 the quality is much better on Gcam when you're walking or hiking fast the video stabilization is not that much progressive or smoother on stock camera I'd say max 5% or 10% more accurate and it's hardly noticeable but the quality drops during the video I can clearly see the image distortion and noise.
In addition Gcam is much more configurable and better quality because it is being developed constantly and Xiaomi stock camera software is not something to judge or the company is aimed for but rather quality and production of smartphones and various equipment.
