Is it just me or does the camera on HTC Sense seem better than the stock Android one?
And also which one produces better quality images?
Are u running a sense rom or just comparing a sense phone to a stock?

I'm comparing Virtuous to CM 6.1.1 both stock cameras on each rom.
Image quality they should be about equal. I think I prefer the Sense camera though for the sounds alone. I HATE the focus and shutter sound on the stock cam. Wish I could find an APK for the DZ 1.72 cam that works on CM6.1.1

The gallery in sense probably just displays them in full resolution.

Ah, good to point out. Sometimes the picture previews in some programs aren't full resolution to cut down on processing times, delays, etc.
Is anyone able to confirm this? I also think they may look a little bit better in Sense but I must admit that when I viewed them using another image viewer afterwards they looked about the same. Didn't pay enough attention to make a qualified report though.
Best way to test would be to just put both the sense pic and the stock pic on your computer.

Currently, I'm running froyostone and the camera app only displays quality as "3mpx" when in reality the HD2 has a 5mpx one.
Which android build allows full camera quality? Is this the type of thing a new zimage would fix or is it more of a build issue?
It's kind of driving me crazy.... I've built a mostly functional daily use build where everything but the full camera (and WiFi hotspot, which I know is being worked on) is working.
Also, what's the story with 720p video recording? Is the HD2s camera capable of that resolution?
If anyone would like to see the steps I took to make my daily use build, a tutorial is on my website but as a new user, I am unable to post links.

There are already builds with the full 5MP camera working (mattc nexusleo, for example).
Obviously the Leo's camera is able to take 720p videos, and in theory even 1080p, in fact 1920*1080 is something like 2MP... The problem is in codecs and CPU usage, but soon we'll have 720p as the N1 and the Desire have.. And probably we'll never see 1080p because it's too big to calculate proprely for the CPU, and it would take too much space on the SD, too...
mattc NexusLeo v1 has the camera working perfectly at 5mpx.
I don't want to use no sense ROM anymore. The interface is very crude.
Is there any solution for HTC sense ROM with 5MP camera?

Each to their own, but I think the Android 2.2 interface with LauncherPro is superb.... I am fed up with the HTC Sense look, its like WinMo (and I am not going back there again! !!! )
If you are willing to pay for an app then vignette will not only give you full resolution but will give you a much more robust camera app with a ton of features and much better jpeg compression

Camera360 Ultimate is pretty cool allowing you to trigger with the screen and not just the optical button as well as having cool photo options.

Im not sure what camera cm uses but I love that one. It may it may or may not be stock, I can't remember the stock camera app anymore, but if its stock I couldn't imagine needing to upgrade. Its got a ton if options like filters, exposure, contrast and sharpness as well as the ability to choose the quality and mp of your shots. You can also overlay effects before taking pictures. And you can take pics with the touch screen...so yea, whatever camera app that comes with cm6/7 is a great one.

Hey guys,
Here's the Camera.apk extracted from CM6/7. The one from CM6 will FC and the one from CM7 won't install on Sense ROM (FR).
I have ILWT cm7 , and i think is the best rom , anyway i do not know but the camera on cm7 rom's sucks a lot. I mean: when i tryed (a lot of time) sense roms , and sometimes MIUI the camera is better , for quality , focus and all.
I would like to have a sense camera on CM7 , i think is impossibile , or someanother solution?
Thanks
Currently on ILWT, and I use the camera a pretty good amount. Haven't noticed their to be much difference (if at all) in picture quality between the CM7 camera on ILWT and Sense cameras (which I used for a long time). I find the MIUI camera near useless (at least the one you have the option to choose in Aroma on ILWT while flashing), due to the lack of selectable ISO.
Have you tried adjusting ISO and white balance? These often will give less blurry photos if you manually adjust them. Both Sense and CM7 cameras take too much time calculating the proper white balance and ISO, resulting in long shutter delay and resulting blur from camera movement.
You can try the MIUI camera app, it is offered as an option in the ILWT.txt configuration file.
I'm running ILWT and much prefer MIUI camera to CM7 camera app. That said I think Sense camera and in particular the one included in the Doubleshot ROM gave me the best results. That is actually the only thing I'm missing from Sense, the very nice camera app.

I totally agree with this.
Actually, the HTC Amaze Cam from the MT4G gave me the best results i have EVER had from my phone. That's the only thing that makes me want to go back to Sense.

You're right - forgot about the Amaze camera app which produced very fine results. Still not enough to make me want to go back to a horribly slow experience.
When one of the Sense 4A ROMs get a working camera I might be intrigued. I flashed one just to try it out and it seemed remarkably smooth compared to any of the Sense 3.0/3.5 ROMs.
Until then, ILWT and MIUI cam it is

Needless to say, it will not make your phone do anything that is not supported by the hardware.
Photos will remain 5MP maximum and the sensor in our phones doesn't support burst mode and other features that is not normally supported.
Also, using the Amaze camera app you are stuck on a Sense 3.0/3.5 ROM that is painfully slow compared to AOSP ROMs.
So far I've landed on ILWT CM7 with MIUI camera app as default.

the xperia rom is fast and uses sense 3.5, I also have the amaze camera running on it, you can change the media_profiles.xml file to have no compression but you will have large photos (3mb) I do notice some difference.
I also removed the plastic cover around my camera and made a glass one, that made a huge difference but it was a pain to do.

I'm running CoreDroid on Inspire 4g and this Sense 3.5 is running like an aosp. Pacha's sense 3.5 stripped down senseless, I get the same quality. Love cm7 but, sense camera is the best hands down. I've been through so many cameras on cm7 and nothing compares to the sense camera. I've yet to try thee Amaze app. Gonna give that a go now.
Can somebody explain to me why?I cant understand.I switch from stock firmware to AOKP and my photo captures is so different and the zoom quality is not blury as lg's stock camera app +the flash is way quicker!
You cant understand why one app is better than another ? The AOSP (AOKP) camera app is just faster and LG's camera app is slow...
This mod makes the LG camera app live up to its specs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974

Hi,
Not anymore now, take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974. It's really faster, nothing compared to stock...
EDIT: too late
Yes I know that.. you don't have to convince me. I was just trying to make the original op understand the difference...
even with this mod i still think that stock android camera is better,ok has not that much custumize but i dont care.i just want a quality photos...Is there any way to get android 4.4 camera in 4.3?
Had purchased this phone with lot of expectations about OIS camera but unfortunately the camera itself is capable bug LG provided with not a great camera app.
Now I know that there are mods available which to some extent improve the quality of photos but still its not upto the mark.
Now I want to know whether you are using any good camera app which you consider gives better result than the stock camera?
Looking forward to your suggestions.

I personally think the camera itself is great piece of hardware, the software is on the other hand, however, as many reported (and I agreed) the IQ (image quality) when taking in the good light source is super. In another hand, when taking under low light condition, it's crap.
There is a modded version of it, if yours is rooted, give it a try.
I tend not to install 3rd party app.
I've tried the camera on stock lg rom and 4.4.2 on PA, both pictures look terrible compared to the Nexus 5's camera with HDR mode.
I am using Focal camera (from the ex-CyanogenMod app ). Great UI and features. Still beta, but no lags for me)

personally i think the camera is pretty decent on the g2 id imagine the lumia ones are better obviously but fail to see another phone thats better than the g2's
lmao. random noobs who haven't even used the other device talking about comparison? what do you know? nothing.. keep theorycrafting.
the nexus 5 has an optimized camera app that has better image stabilization and HDR+ mode that actually works by taking 5 pictures and combining it into a much crisper picture compared to normal mode. the HDR mode in the G2 looks practically the same in terms of sharpness and quality.

I'm the opposite heh, I returned my Nexus 5 and picked up a G2 and think the pictures from the G2 look considerably better, in anything but great lightning. Outside with great lighting I think both create very good photos. Additionally, while the software part on the G2 isn't great it's still well ahead of the camera software on the Nexus, which is about as bare bones basic as you can get.

I think it actually only uses 3 pictures though. But not sure. I saw in a review that it uses 3 with 4.4.2 to make it faster a little. But it still turns out great. I personally can't see the difference in pictures unless placed side by side but that's just me I think since I don't really pay too close detail.
One thing I want to say is video on the nexus 5 is terrible unless full day light and even then not very good. It darkens it so much (which I think is software) but it's practically unusable with out lots of light because of that. Hopefully Google fixes that

Is the image stabilization a hardware feature? Like, in the VS980 version of the G2, does image stabilization work when using AOSP-based KitKat roms and the default AOSP camera?
The Lenovo Supercamera or whatever it's called will blow you away mate.

That one is in my Dropbox, it's the same APK from the thread in Apps & Games section.
I think they renamed it to Lenovo SNAPit too, not sure.
Change it to 13MP in the settings menu too, because it's set lower as default.
Here are some shots I just took (huge images)

I'm disappointed too with g2 camera (d802), it is extremely slow and in low light it is impossible to take pictures. Then I installed aosp roms and things got worse. Here some pics, taken in very low light with aosp camera (android 4.4.2) but even with stock rom camera I can not obtain decent results.
