I'm a total newbie when it comes to flashing ROMs and whatnot.
I got clockwork installed correctly and downloaded the superclean ROM to my SD card.
I rebooted into recovery and tried a data wipe/factory reset. It ran and ran and ran for over an hour and I couldn't find any info on the web about how long it should take so I pulled the battery thinking it was hung.
I now boot up and it goes into Android System Recovery. At the bottom it says "Manual Mode"
The SD card is still installed.
It gives me the following options but I can't select any of them.
Reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe data cache partition
What can I do?

Awesome... that booted me back into my previous rom.... wish I would have known that earlier.
How long should I wait for Clockwork to wipe my data?

Did you flash clockwork within rom manager? There should be an option for the fascinate. Do it twice just for grins. The reboot into cwm and try it again.

Yep I did that first.... I just attempted it a couple of times this morning and it seemed to work today.
It didn't get hung up saying "Wiping Data...." It went to another line and said Formatting Data and sat there for about 30 seconds and completed the wipe. I"m not sure what was different than what I did last night but it worked.

It gives me an error "Run 'wipe dalvik' via ADB.
Should I be able to run it from the recovery? I suspect my recovery ROM copied incorrectly. Is there any way I can reflash the ROM without doing a factory reset and re-rooting.
If not, then will doing a factory reset via Recovery work? And will the phone need to be reprogrammed to work on Sprint with my number, etc?
Thanks!

Go download the 1.5.2 recovery ROM, flash it the same way you did the original instructions are there. If you still have the issue, post back.
I have had simaler problems in the past and sometimes I was able to just reboot the system and use the fresh kitchen go to create nandroid backup in the kitchen it used adb to reboot into recovery and then everything worked fine after that.
on the other hand there have been a couple times where I just had to bite the bullet RUU and reroot then flash a backup.
hope this helps a little

HAHA Refresh every hour or so lol.
But I was reposting to say that you should try to wipe from the pre kitchen and see what happens there.
I re-pushed and flashed 1.5.2 recovery. I still get the "run wipe davilk from ADB" error when trying to wipe it from within the recovery rom.
What do you mean wipe it from pre-kitchen? Could someone please post some instructions.
Is there a command to run it via CMD?
I have never had it work.. even on multiple Heros. and MANY Recover re-loads

I get force closes on any update I do. I thought clearing the cache fixes this problem?
If not can someone point me to instructions on starting from scratch? I would like to factory reset it but I need to know if I'll have to re-activate the phone to work on Sprint, or if it just works?
They are talking about on the Fresh Pre Kitchen 0.2 . Also if you do a wipe you will not have to activate the phone it will just reinstall the OS. I actually clearfed rteh cache using the pre-kitchen and it works fine now

I see. I just factory reset my phone.
Now the question is; since I still I have my recovery ROM do I still need to root the phone again?

Oh, so I did a factory reset, re-rooted the phone, and installed Modaco's newest custom ROM.
I'm still getting force closes.
If I clear the cache will it fix the errors?
it depends if you just used the wipe data/factory reset in the recovery menue or if you actually used the RUU to reflash back to stock. if you used the RUU then yes you will have to reroot if you just used the recovery menue then no you will not have to.

I have some problems.
I can not wipe cache and after install ROM I've got 'Force Close' apps.
How can I resolve that issues? I install again ROM and still ocurs errors.
Pls give me instructions what I must do.
Thanks
Why was I referred to this as a fix? For one, the command isn't even posted. Is their a command to wipe the dalvik-cache? If yes, what is the command that I would run?
I notice two options:
-w
Wipe the data partition
-d
Flash the data partition
Well if you don't use a2sd, this is the fix
That's a known "issue", the wipe script gives an error because it tries to wipe the dalvik-cache from the ext partition after it erased the dalvik-cache from /data. Since you don't have an ext partition it will exit and throw the error.
Don't worry about it, your dalvik-cache IS WIPED, even when you see the error.
Thanks regaw_leinad,
I kept attempting it with the latest fresh-toast rom but it would continue rebooting. It's the only rom that wouldn't have a successful dalvik wipe. I gave up and went back to damageless's SprintUpdate2.zip.
Thanks,
Zac
Hello, I have recently been unable to flash ROM's succesfully.
I have Clockwork MOD 4.0.0.2 installed as it came with CF-Root, and I am on stock 2.3.5 KI3.
I have tried flashing several roms, and while it says install complete, whenever it restarts, it is on a boot loop, where it won't go past the Galaxy S II bit with the yellow triangle, I have to flash the stock rom again using odin to even use the phone, I have tried to flash other recovery versions, like 4.0.0.14 and 5.1.2.6 (I think it is) but they all come up with errors mounting or getting recovery.log or something, could you please help?
Did you try to do a full wipe?
Most issues can be resolved by this.
In the CWM menu chose the factory reset/full wipe. (Don't worry it won't touch your files on the internal SD card)
Do a cache wipe and in the advanced menu do a dalvik cache wipe.
Some recommend to do this procedure twice, but you should be settled with doing it once
Let me know if it helped?

Yeah I did all that, didn't help, the progress bar gets half way and says complete :S I have downloaded the ROMs several times aswell incase they were corrupt, still didn't help.
Take out the battery, wait a bit, put it back in. Do all the wipe and formatting procedures (perhaps twice) and format the internal sd card as well and wipe the battery stats (just to be sure)

Can some tell me if there is a newer JT ROM or am i doing someting wrong? I wiped cache and dalvik before flash.
PLEASE HELP:crying:

You have the V8 unlocked bootloader installed, correct? If not, you'll need to have it installed first.
If so, and a recent CWM installed,
sequence should be;
a. Wipe data/factory reset
b. Wipe Cache
c. Wipe Dalvik
d. Format /system
e. Install JT

Great!! Thanks a lot!
Only step I had missed was format /system. I thought factory reset did just that, apparently I was wrong!
Thanks again. Loving my JB on A-501.
Just one issue, Google now voice search doesn't work.
And I noticed there is a phone app. So can I make a call??
After a battery empty, I restarted my Defy+. But now it got stuck on "Starting apps." at the end of the boot.
I have to wipe data to make my phone ending the boot.
If I restore data which I previously backup in recovery mode, I'm still stucked with "Starting apps."
How can I debug the settings or data that avoid that? I really want to restore my data.

Are you using the new Teamwin recvoery to flash?
Ive had the same issue ( and many more besides that) for me, to fix the problem i did this:
Go back to recovery (Teamwin) and wipe everything
re-boot, go back to recovery (team win) and flash an older rom with clock work mod recovery, and let it boot.
re- start the phone and then go back to recovery ( clockwork mod) and flash the newer CM10 rom from clcokwork mod (First wipe everything /data/dalvik/cache/factory re-set)

Thanx,
Yes Teamwin delivered with cm-10-20130527.
What I done without success:
*Flash older ROM and restore more older data with CWM
*Push with adb unzipped
I should have flashed 10 to 20 times changing some steps each time. Each time I done wipe cache, dalvik and sometimes a data format and a wipe system.
I abandoned the idea to restore my data. Have to reenter all settings manually (find and enter account settings for CSip or some solooong preshared key for Vpncilla and so on).
Then what is positive: I format my data partition to ext4. I learnt a lot from very fragmented information for all those steps. I have a fresh new install.

Hi, I have a big problem.
I flashed this ROM on the phone: I9505XXUDMH8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX_FREE-ODEX-FULL
And all was fine.
A few days later, the phone started lag a lot and google services (like the play store) crashed.
So, I put the teamwin recovery, I tried to do a "wipe data", but data, system, efs, cache results impossible to mount.
At this point I flashed again: "I9505XXUDMH8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX_FREE-ODEX-FULL.", the phone has booted, but the process "system" and google services crashed.
I flashed the clockwork recovery, I mounted and formatted "data", "cache", "system" wipe data factory, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache and then I flashed with odin the file "I9505XXUDMH8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX_FREE-ODEX -FULL. ", but the phone didn't pass the write "samsung".
At the end, I downloaded the file I9505XXUDMHB_I9505ITVDMI2_ITV and I flashed with the "pit", but the phone still not pass the bootanimation. Please, help.
Thanks.
