Hi All,
Another question from the Sony Ericson X1 newbie
When you're in your home, do you leave your WAP/GPRS/3G on all the time? or would you connect to your wifi? Is there a way for it to determine which is the best to go to?
The reason I ask is because im sat in my room, trying to download a panel, but it keeps losing the 3G connection. With the wifi, it wouldn't do this.
Plus I set my emails to check every 10 minutes, so obviously it won't be able to do this if it can't get a connection properly.
Thanks,
I believe you just answered your own question.
BUT
Yes, but, the 3G connection stays alive when the phone is sleeping and mail can check.
I have found while experimenting over the past 2 days that leaving wifi connected (even with the allow sleep mode wifi change in the registry via Advance Config) STILL doesn't let it auto receive my mail.
I have been using the Xperia on and off all day without turning the wifi off once, and hadnt received any mail, only to pick up my iphone to find that the exact same mail account synced had already received 8 emails. (Also using wifi)
This so far is the only thing hugely disappointing me with the Xperia and I may end up buying a data plan to fix it.
Okay, thank you.
And is there any way to disconnect the 3G once the Auto Send/Receive has completed? I just don't want it to drain my battery in the middle of the night and then my alarm won't wake me up in the morning haha.

As far as i know, it should disconnect itself or atleast go into a low power "sleep mode" when the phone is asleep. I wouldn't worry about it draining the battery. But don't quote me on that because I don't have a data plan.
My GPRS stays on 24/7, at night I don't have any send or receive and I put the phone in sleep mode (tapping the power key).
Never seen the battery drop more than 10% (and remember the phone only gives 10% intevals, so in reality it could be just 1 or 2%)
Wifi Sleep when locked not working
Hello, I have a problem, my wifi sleep policy is turned on to "when screen turns off" but when my phone is locked, the wifi is still on! I just pressed the lock button after 5-10 mins but the wifi is still on.
How long does it take for you for the wifi to turn off?
Any suggestions?

Not a suggestion as such but I'm reading that using the wifi sleep policy is detrimental to the battery life. Can't confirm as I'm still experimenting.
Yeah battery life is destroyed if you use WiFi sleep policy. Set it to never for best battery life. It's counter intuitive.
But to answer your question, I think it takes closer to half hour for sleep policy to kick in. You would notice WiFi off if you woke up in the morning etc or after long periods like hours of inactivity.

I'm having the opposite issue. As soon as my screen goes off I lose WiFi connectivity and get disconnected on adbWireless which is a huge pain for me when I'm developing... Maybe I'll enable sleep policy and see if that fixes my issue! Lol! I'm on stock 2.3.1

There's an option in Settings>Application Settings>Development to not turn the screen off when charging, that should solve your adbWireless problem so long as your phone is charging.

this is exactly how it works on the Galaxy S
there is an option in settings to keep WiFi on when the screen is Off in the SGS
but not sure if the NS has the same option (still waiting for my phone to arrive)

That's only if I'm doing adb over USB. I hate wires
I went to my wifi setting to make my wifi sleep once my screen shuts off but the setting doesn't stay. Is there a fix to this by any chance? Want my wifi to always sleep when my screen shuts off......

What do you mean it doesn't stay, it changes the setting to something else? When you have wifi set to sleep on screen off, it doesn't sleep immediately once the screen goes off, it takes awhile. I use "sleep when screen off" and I get great battery life.
Wait so is it good that my wifi turns off when my phone sleeps or not?

it depends on what you want
if you want to maintain connectivity then it's no good
if you want to save power, then it is good

Once I turn my screen off than turn it back on after a while my setting goes back to never even after I change the setting to shut wifi off once I shut off screen. Weird bit it does. I read in another forum that it saves battery but my setting keep changing back.

I've the same issue. I've try various app from the market for fix that, but all is the same. It's a hardware problem? The router will can cause this problem?
Thanks
Here is a question about Wifi sleep that seems pretty obvious to me, but in case I am wrong I will ask here.
You enable Wifi, which shuts off 3G (but keeps 1X active). Now Wifi goes to sleep (when the phone is in your pocket), and while Wifi is sleeping, someone sends you a GMail. I assume that you will NOT get any push notifications while Wifi is snoozing away???
You should have WiFi set to not sleep.

To expand on Beezer80's comment, you will have better battery life if you set your wifi sleep policy to never sleep. Your power is drained faster with repeated search and connect actions by your phone, so you'd be better off keeping the pipeline open all the time.
Please permanently I have WIFI issue in deeps sleep. Wifi dont work - dont work any gtalk, gmail notification, or too late.. At the moment I turn on display - comes all notification - in the same second when display turn on, all nottification beeps!
When is display on, or is connected charger (-deep sleep is off), all about wifi is perfect and push servis is ok. But when goes to deep sleep, all is back. I trayd many roms, but still the same. Please, know someone any solution? Thank you very much!
Off course wifi deep slep setting is "allways" and router is ok..
So the problem is on SOME OCCASION,
the phone doesnt automatically sleep given i set the sleep time to 30 sec, which causes major drainage in my battery life. I use go SMS, and i turned on the msg pop up, it would turn on my screen but wouldnt turn off after the 30 sec. Or let say after i read a email but left it on the table as i assume it will turn off automatically after a given amount of time, it would remain on. So im not sure what's causing it any solution?
